The podcast of The Greenhouse Church in Athens, TN. This podcast exists to provide an in-depth, practical conversation based on the teachings from our Sunday morning gatherings. Additionally, we hope to encourage and challenge people in their walk with Christ through the testimonies of other believers.

Faith Frazier and Erick Innis join the show to talk about Athens, Greece. Faith spent last summer serving with a ministry that provides Summer Camps for refugees located in Greece and Erick is leading a team of high school students from Athens, TN to partner with this same ministry for a week this summer.

Often we think that our activity for God, or “Calling", is the most important aspect of being a Christian (ministry output). But what if there are other important elements in our life that precede and nurture that calling? In Acts 13 we find two highly necessary inputs of the Christian life that give rise to that call.

"Deacon" is a term that is familiar to most people from a church background, but there's often some confusion as to the specific role of Deacons in the church. Listen as Todd Humbert explains the role of Deacons in the church based on the Book of Acts.

Historically the Lord's Supper/Communion has been a divisive issue in the church, when in fact part of the meaning behind Communion is intended to be the opposite, unity. It is a visual reminder of our continual need for Jesus, that his broken body and poured-out blood are not just what makes us right with God (justification) but also what we depend on for closeness with God (intimacy). Listen in as Todd teaches the various biblical and theological aspects of the Lord's Supper and its implications for church life.

Church discipline is a practice for which we have no tolerance, a severe allergy. Leadership books like Radical Candor or Critical Conversations that accountable conversations are actually medicinale (healing), yet somehow in the Church we believe accountability is unloving or condemning. What if God designed the church so that accountability is one of God's major practices for you to truly live out your purpose to its fullness in our generation? What if you changed your perspective to see accountability as an act of love, not judgment? Also, what does this mean for you to "speak the truth in love" (Eph. 4:15) to another who needs loving accountability?

Few things are more harmful than getting our eyes off Jesus. Oftentimes, highly religiously-influenced communities have substituted the good news of Jesus for trying to be a good citizen instead, or trying to be a good person. Instead what God desires is that we trust in the goodness of Jesus on our behalf and he transforms us, otherwise the gospel becomes social pressure and behavior modification. It's not our goodness, but our sin that caused Jesus to die on our behalf, and consequently made heaven available to those who will trust in Christ for salvation! In Acts 4, we discover the highly religious environment of Jerusalem, and the stumbling blocks they had to receiving salvation.
