Bronchiectasis is characterized by neutrophilic inflammation and frequent exacerbations often associated with infections. Lipid mediators play critical roles in the inflammatory response, and the balance between anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory mediators could drive to chronic inflammation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the metabolites of docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid in sputum of adults with bronchiectasis defining their associations with clinical data, bacterial load and neutrophil elastase.

Lots of empirical and anecdotal evidence utilizing organ meat for optimum health. The kidney produces erythropoietin which is an important hormone stimulating bone marrow to produce red blood cells. Does it make sense to include kidney organ meat to promote optimum blood health? Erythopoietin is absorbed orally and is abundant in kidney organ meat. The amount of scientific evidence available about kidney organ meat is scarce whereas recombinant Erythropoietin sources from pharmaceutical companies are abundant. Making sense of scant science on Kidney organ meat and optimum blood health is the primary goal of today's podcast. I also discuss an unfortunate development of FDA regulation on organ meat and defining a natural product as a 'biologic' drug and thereby falling under the regulation of a political body rife with lobbyists and global pharmaceutical companies having a vested interest in shareholders and not consumers.

A timeless article, one to consider as the many ways to treat cold and flu symptoms. Three phases of COVID; viral infection, inflammation 'storm', and post covid (think long covid). Jala Neti will help decrease viral loads and improve the likelihood of a true negative COVID swab. Steroids remain the underpinning conventional treatment for the inflammation stage. Recovery may last months. Application of spices during all three phases of viral infections are helpful, as do foods such as fermented foods and broccoli. Conventional treatment with paracetamol alongside Ginger, Turmeric, Green Tea provide a solid foundation of symptom treatment. Berberine and Zinc were not effective. Broccoli with Black Pepper, Ginger and other spices including Wasabi prolong healing qualities of the studied ingredients when used together. Herbs and Spices are sustainable and generally available for people more so than conventional treatments. Toxic doses of spices are not a risk whereas conventional drug use can reach toxic levels with a handful of pills.

Transitioning to botanical medicine for cognition and pain diseases? Try Rosemary, Turmeric, Black Pepper, Quercetin, Reservatrol.
I've enjoyed learning about how the power of nature is not just about the power of science. In other words, today's episode discusses how optimum neuron health has many pathways. Modern scientific laboratory drugs usually focus on one specific biochemical pathway. Affecting one pathway may lead to other disease however. Adaptogenic Rosemary, Black Pepper, Quercetin, Reservatrol and many others provide optimum health in a supportive method. Think of it as a 'tending to the neuron garden' rather than a nail and hammer approach. I also discuss how combining different botanical medicines provide a customized path to optimum health.
Three medical science articles are discussed today, all focus upon the neuron. The neuron is a basic building block of the nervous system. Pain, cognition, preconception, vision, smell are all functions of neurons.

Cognitive impairment can be difficult to identify especially if mild. Usually it take intimate understanding of the person before mild impairment is recognized. Rosemary supports cognition among many other body functions. Ageing is not a burden rather a blessing to others. Alzheimer's disease is dementia starting before 50 years of age. FDA approved drugs for Alzheimer's have many side effects and are costly. Rosemary supports healthy cognition and has been documented to have many supportive pathways. Rosemary has been shown to improve cognition in animals with cognitive impairment and returns cognition to a normal baseline state.

Today I am prescribing mindfulness. What is mindfulness? It is a mental state or attitude in which one focuses one's awareness on the present moment while also being conscious of, and attentive to, this awareness. Also: the cultivation and practice of this, esp. as a therapeutic technique. Frequently attributive, as mindfulness meditation, etc. Frequently and originally with reference to Yoga philosophy and Buddhism, but from the late 20th cent. increasingly taught and practiced outside these contexts as a formal discipline, often involving meditation with a focus on, or acknowledgement of, one's emotions, thoughts, and bodily sensations.
What is a toxic dose of botanical medicines? Intake of a single meal containing herbs and spices improves cholesterol, hyperglycemia, oxidative stress, and improves endothelial function. I discuss the first controlled feeding study to examine the effect of incorporating mixed herbs and spices into a US-style dietary pattern and how it improves blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Molasses contains iron and its absorption enhancers, such as sulfur, fructose, and copper, which make it a potential dietary supplement for Iron Deficiency Anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is a serious public health problem that debilitates ∼1.6 billion people globally every year, the majority being pregnant women and children from developing countries. In India, for example, in spite of several operational programs at the national level using iron–folic acid and other allopathic interventions, Iron deficiency anemia is still prevalent. Traditional medicines, such as Ayurveda, prescribe herbal formulations containing sugarcane derivatives for the management of pandu, a condition similar to Iron deficiency anemia. The rhizome of the plant Zingiber officinale, which has a distinctive aroma and hot spicy taste, and is used in cooking and as a medicinal agent. Primary hypothyroidism is a common disease. Some patients have persistent symptoms despite normal serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels. Ginger is reported to be beneficial in relieving similar symptoms. Primary hypothyroidism is a clinical syndrome in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones. Zingiber officinale is a perennial plant from the Zingiberaceae family. Its rhizome (underground stem), commonly known as ginger, is widely used as a popular spice in different cultures around the world. According to preliminary results of today's study, it was demonstrated that the daily consumption of 1000 mg of ginger powder in patients with primary hypothyroidism on adequate hormone replacement (biochemically euthyroid) led to a significant reduction in hypothyroid symptoms. The most responsive symptoms to ginger supplementation were weight gain, cold intolerance, constipation, dry skin, decreased appetite, memory loss, concentration disturbance, and feeling giddy or dizzy. Furthermore, anthropometric outcomes including weight, BMI, and waist circumference as well as laboratory parameters such as FBS, TG, and total cholesterol also improved with ginger supplementation. It can be concluded that ginger supplementation in hypothyroid patients can help control persistent symptoms, decrease weight, and regulate the FBS and lipid profile. However, further human studies with larger sample sizes, longer durations, different ginger doses, and a follow-up period after discontinuation of the supplement are recommended.
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a plant prevalent in South Asia, and is now cultivated in tropical areas around the world. The rhizome is used as a spice in regional cuisines, and as a coloring agent in food and cosmetics for its yellow-orange color. Protein wasting cachexia occurs from metabolically active cancer and is reduced from Turmeric as are mitochondria metabolism. Patients suffering from Major Depressive Disorder is found in six of six clinical trials to improve with Turmeric and is most effective in middle aged adults and utilized for long periods of time. Mood enhancement is noted in the elderly. Anxiety is reduced in five of seven trials. Many pathways are involved such as Gut Biome, Microbial health, Neural Plasticity, Blood Brain Barrier, Immune System and Hormones. Liver Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase is controlled with Turmeric during paracetamol overdose.
