Perspectuus: Recent Episodes

Sadie Sanchez

It has been said "you don't really know a person until you've walked a mile in their shoes". While this is not a mile in their shoes, this is life through their eyes. Perspectuus is a nonprofit whose mission is to societal divisiveness by empowering individuals to learn from each other's perspectives and share their own perspective. The Perspectuus Podcast is an anonymous collection of perspectives from everyday people. Please keep your minds and hearts open as you look through a different perspective than your own and gain some understanding as to why people believe the way they do.

"If the masses are a large group of people, it's a lot easier to control them if they're in smaller groups, smaller factions. It's even easier to manipulate and control these smaller factions if they are constantly at war with each other.

I think as long as there is going to be a class that feels that they need to rule over another group of people that we will always have these types of issues."

This week, Sadie does a solo episode sharing her thoughts on the evolution of perspective. She explores the idea of "experience tracking" and poses questions about whether or not that level of transparency regarding the factors that build our perspectives would beneficial or if it comes with too much responsibility.

"I was just thinking of the experiences of being bullied and being alone and being called a 'bitch' and a 'fag' and all of those things growing up in middle school and early high school. Those experiences sear themselves into your mind. I was thinking about these ways that we define what a man is supposed to act like and how they keep getting repeated in different ways.

We keep repeating some of these things where men are kind of shut off from expressing themselves.

I think that men do so many things to cover up their shame. For instance, a lot of violence I think is really a reaction to being ashamed."

"Through my eyes the world is a beautiful place. I have a heart of love for the opportunity to be in this world at this time. I was perfectly born for the time I was born in, to be the pioneer I have been in my life and in my career and I will continue to be so until I breathe my last breath."

"I always consider myself a beautiful disaster because I'm full of scars, I'm full of tumors, I'm full of missing body pieces and yet, I still smile.

I developed a splinter in my toe and it got really infected and then I went to Canada and they realized that I didn't have an artery that grew down my leg so I had to have the amputation and it was just life changing. I was 11 years old and I went into that operation as one person but I came out as a different person.  I had to grow up and learn how to handle something that most adults probably wouldn't be able to comprehend. "For me, I always had a free spirit. I never infringed on someone's beliefs. I always tried to let them have the freedom to choose and the freedom to learn. And I gave myself the freedom to in turn, learn from them. I've always wanted the freedom to believe in what I chose to believe even from a religious perspective because I am not the same person as my family. I don't believe in the same things that they do. My freedom of political choice and the way I want to live my life should not be infringed upon by anyone, politician or civilian alike."

"I am a young girl striving to be happy in everything she does. You know, you want to be happy with the decisions that you make and everything you do. I am someone who looks for the positive in everything, even when it's not.

I was not born here, I was born in Guadalajara, Mexico with my family. My parents actually had their honeymoon here in Vegas so when they came out here, they fell in love with it, and they brought us down here. "

"I was raised in a very small town.  So, obviously a lot of my perspectives come from living in a rural community. Growing up in a farming community, agriculture is big. A lot of the people around me are also kind of connected to the land, whether it's farming, whether it's mining, or forestry. Growing up in a small community, to be completely honest, like looking back, it was very closed minded and almost ignorant in a lot of ways. But luckily, my parents were very good at letting their children explore, and I think it allowed me to be a very well-rounded individual."

"I think I started taking life real seriously at like age 21. Like some other people out there in life by 21, they are already world champions and stuff. But there was no one really there to say, 'go and get it'. You just kind of exist I guess, go at your own pace and whatever comes in front of you, you handle it"

"I don't look like your average clown when you think about clowning. I'm long and lean and I like to think that I come off as graceful and elegant...but I have this other side to me that's very maniacal and demented. I love playing with the duality of that."

"I had to take a step back and realize that I can't help anybody else until I can help myself. I can't talk about a policy until I can create policies for myself to follow. I can't dream up realities until I create the reality that I want for myself first. So, as I look into politics and the current state of it, I can only focus on myself. I can't give all of this attention to things I don't necessarily have control over."

"When I look in the mirror at myself, I see someone who is still growing and going through changes, someone that is still learning. I have a lot to learn. I still feel like in a way I am kind of immature but without that guidance, what do you expect? When I look in the mirror, I look at someone who has come a long way for sure but has a very long way to go."

"Just let go a little bit. We hang on to mission control so tight and sometimes we need to just let go and be in that moment. You're never going to have all the answers. You're never going to fix it all. You're never going to feel totally at peace about everything and then yet, sometimes you are. So just go with it. Free float."

"I am not special. I used to tell my students when I was a professor that we're not special, but you are unique. Being special to me always had a connotation of comparison and uniqueness is something that is one of a kind. I believe that every human is unique in their own way without comparison or justification. I am just another unique human being still defining what it means to be fully human."
