The Sports Ambassadors chat to basketballer, Kieron Achara. Kieron is a former Stirling High School Pupil who has recieved an MBE for his services to community sport. Kieron retired from Glasgow Rocks in 2019, after a successful career that took him to the US, throughout Europe and playing for both Scotland and Team GB including at the London Olympics in 2012 and Commonwealth Games. 

We find out all about his career, equity in sport, managing sport and studying, the power of hard work, resilience and a positive attitude.

MHS PE meet Ailsa Wylie. Ailsa began her hockey career representing her school, club and country from U16 level all the way through to the Senior Women's team and has now achieved 145 caps for Scotland. She has also achieved a top 6 finish in the European Championships in 2013 and competed at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Ailsa is a hugely talented athlete with a successful career in hockey and also in her current role as a manager at Sport Scotland.

We discuss the mental, emotional, social and physical factors that impact her performance and find out the dedication, mindset and commitment required to be an elite athlete. Thank you so much to Ailsa for talking to us today.

MHS PE meet Lauren Tait.

Lauren has been part of the U19 and U21 National teams, achieved National Player of the Year in 2017 and represented Scotland at the recent 2019 Netball World Cup in Liverpool. Lauren also plays for Strathclyde Sirens where she plays Goalkeeper and Goal Defence. As well as all of that, Lauren is studying for her Masters degree at Stirling university in sports science and has recently started a new job at  Newmains United as their new sports scientist.

We discuss the mental, emotional, social and physical factors that impact her performance and find out how she learns from set backs and turns them into positive experiences.

MHS PE meet Meryl Cooper, Ultra Trail Runner who competes for Great Britain. Meryl competes in races all over the world, running up to 180km over hilly trails on tough terrain. 

Meryl has taken a sabbatical from her job as a PE teacher to allow her to train as much as possible and allowing Meryl to compete at events such as the Ultra Trail World Championships last summer. 

We discuss the mental, emotional, social and physical factors that impact on her performance and how she has been dealing with lockdown.

MHS PE, meet Leanne Ross, Glasgow City captain, ex Scotland player and Active Schools Coordinator.  Leanne has played at Glasgow City for 13 years as well as playing for Scotland for 11 years. She has 133 caps and 9 goals for Scotland.
