EYF was designed to help us all be the best we can be, and put the focus on US, during the difficult times of the first wave of the pandemic.

Episode 51: From Dreams to Reality, Pt.2 Life lessons from a Guinness Record holder (ft. Michelle Kakade)
In part 2 of our chat, we dig deep to see what keeps Michelle motivated when she's injured, on a very long run; what her passions are, and what she did during the lockdown.
Have you ever had a goal but not sure where to start or wonder if you’d ever accomplish it? Or have you ever had fear of failing stop you from pursuing your goal.
Well, we’re going to take you for a ride so that you can take action even when you’re not sure if you can do it.
That’s what Michelle Kakade did as she shares how she transformed her identity from being tied to others (by being a daughter, wife, and then mother) to being the Guiness world record holder for the fastest time to run the Indian Golden Quadrilateral, 5968.4 km ( 2709 miles). If you do the math, that’s 142 marathons within 194 days. The funniest part is that she doesn’t consider herself a runner. Crazy right?
Did she want to quit at points? You betcha… but she didn’t. She is an everyday Wonder Woman who chose not to stop while being fueled with determination. In spite of suffering along the way, Michelle is a person who doesn’t give up easily and has the capacity to know her limitations especially when it came to listening to her body (and specifically her menstruation but more about that in the episode).

Episode 48: Change Your body, Change Your Life (ft. Paul Walker)
Is there room to love ourselves right now and still want to change our bodies? Dr. Tanya and I say yes. Here’s a fact, I’m 5 foot nothing and don’t exactly have a model like figure, like my counterpart Tanya. I feel pretty good about myself. I know what to wear to accentuate my features. That said, I can stand to tighten up around the middle and am currently working on it. Instead of believing that "I want to change my body because I’m not good enough as I am" or "I will love myself better when I look a particular way?"
Paul Walker was bullied when he was young, partially due to his struggles with weight. Now he runs a successful fitness facility for over 30 years that caters to women, to help them get rid of the negative self talk and truly transform themselves into powerful, unstoppable forces!
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
Paul’s timeless strength training principles:
The heavier the resistance, the stronger the muscle
For maximum results keep the muscle under tension until failure
If you don't use it, you lose it
As you get stronger, you must take on more challenging forms of resistance
Time, patience and consistent resistance = progress.
Why Paul’s goal is to push you beyond your goals
Paul’s Bio:
Paul Walker is the owner and founder of Integrity Fitness, a nine time award-winning world-class training facility for women. He has graced the fitness industry for over three decades and is a well-known and respected fitness professional in all of Ontario. He has been featured on CP24, City TV, Rogers TV and, various other shows and podcasts. Every year, Paul leads his team to inspire, and motivate over two thousand women achieve fabulous results.
“My goal is to teach all my clients something that will help them go beyond their fitness & health goals. I truly believe to my deepest core, that the 5% of the time we needed to invest into our health, dramatically influences the other 95%.”

EP 45 - Should I Take Meds Ever?
What happens if you have tried everything naturally from under the sun and your headache, back pain, urinary discomfort, depressive symptoms or anxiety or whatever that ails you persist? Do you stick it out, keep doing what you are doing and hope that your symptoms will magically go away? Or, do you make an appointment with your doctor and then head straight to the closest pharmacy and get medicated? And if you choose the latter, do you feel guilty or bad about yourself for surrendering to pharmaceutical drugs?
Let's talk and begin by saying that we don't need to be a martyr. We are human and we can bump up against unexpected challenges which sometimes require more help.
Even though Dr. Tanya and I are all about being as natural as possible, we recognize our humanity. Most of the time, we are able to stay healthy with our proactive lifestyle. That said, we are perfectly imperfect and run into challenges just like any other person. We know that drugs can lead to unwanted side effects. We also know that taking them correctly and understanding the right time, place and way to administer them can reduce the risks. If you are the person that can be au naturel for your whole life, sincere congrats to you. For the rest of us, there is a right time, place and situation for medications to ease certain issues. Sometimes, leaning into acute situations with pharmaceutical drugs may be the best option.
Did she try everything naturally to mitigate her pain and inflammatory reaction? Absolutely. Did she feel bad or wrong reaching out for meds? Absolutely not. Will she be taking these meds forever? No. She is on the mend because she used the meds. Thank goodness. She is also getting back to her normal healthy activities such as going for a bike ride with her four year old in the forest.

WHAT IS A HEALTHY MENSTRUAL CYCLE?
Should we include the menstrual cycles as a vital sign? We say, Kale yeah!
The four main vital signs doctors routinely monitor include body temperature, heart rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure. They indicate the state of a patient’s essential body functions. Your menstrual cycle gives you unparalleled understanding of the incredible connection between your menstrual cycle and your overall health.
Tracking periods can be super helpful for birth control or conception. But it’s way beyond that. Keeping track of your period can tell a story about much more than your reproductive health.
Who better to speak with than our dear friend Lisa Hendrickson-Jack, author and brilliant Fertility Awareness Educator and Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioner who teaches women to chart their menstrual cycles for natural birth control, conception, and monitoring overall health.
It’s time to talk about our periods openly without shame - without hesitation because it’s our birth right.

Episode 42: How to improve your libido and sex life
We need to normalize how we think about sex. It's completely natural, yet we have so many communication issues and expectations around it.
Desire changes, and we need to have healthy conversations around it, especially self pleasure.
Intimacy doesn’t mean sex, sex doesn’t mean penetration. There are many ways to be intimate when the desire for sex is not strong, including self pleasure, where perhaps your partner helps or watches.

EP 39: Resting Heart Rate: Your Health & Fitness Indicator
Did you know - A normal resting heart rate for adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute. Generally, a lower heart rate at rest implies more efficient heart function and better cardiovascular fitness. For example, a well-trained athlete might have a normal resting heart rate closer to 40 beats per minute. But in Chinese medicine we also see that it may not be good to have too low of a heart rate either.
In the west, we look at the rate and rhythm of the pulse as it reflects health. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we go a step further and look beyond the quantitative analysis, and feel the quality of the pulse of patients and can palpate 22+ different pulses, ie. Slow, intermittent, fast, slippery, wiry, soft, ropy, thin, rolling choppy, sinking, etc., all a reflection of the state of the body!

EP 36: How Sleep & Intimacy Go Hand in Hand
If you've been caught up in a cycle of sleepless nights, there's a drug-free way to get back on track: Make love more often. In our Sleep your Way to success (episode 13) and Beauty Sleep (episode 10) episode we gave a ton of tips on how to improve both your sleep quality and quantity.
Today we are discussing how intimacy can not only improve your sleep but is also an excellent way to connect better to yourself and your partner (if you have one) both physically and psychologically.
Making love is an excellent way to transition yourself and turn your dial from the sympathetic nervous system (AKA GO MODE) to the parasympathetic nervous system (AS IN REST & DIGEST MODE) to get a deeper effective sleep.
No partner? No problem. Sex, or more specifically, orgasm, with or without a partner, produces hormones that play a role in helping you relax and fall asleep.

Anger is part of the human condition and one that deserves a lot of attention because we don’t like it, we repel away from it and it can be caustic and painful for ourselves and for others if we lash out in anger.
We love to intersect research with the wisdom of medicine that prevailed modern medicine by 1000’s of years. Medical and psychological Research shows that holding onto anger and resentment increases risk for anxiety, depression, insomnia, high blood pressure, ulcers, migraines, backaches, heart attack and even cancer!

Pt. 2 of Fill Up Your Cup
After polling our patients on topics for our podcast many of you wanted to know what we are doing to stay positive/motivated/inspired through COVID times. Indirectly they were asking, what are we doing to fill up our cups! We answer this question at the end of each of our podcasts but we decided to give you MORE by doing a 2 part series on what this really means, and give you tons of cool/creative ideas to help you also feel more joy/motivated/inspired through COVID times.
What does it mean to “Fill up your cup”?
To fill up your cup means that you need to stop and recharge your batteries, so you can be present and mindful and feel more JOY. It means that you replenish your mental, emotional, and physical energy. You wouldn’t expect your mobile devices to run on a depleted battery, it needs to be recharged, often!

How To Speak To Your 7 y.o. Self
What would life look like if you spoke to yourself in the manner that you would to your seven year old self? Would your self-imposed expectations change? Maybe you wouldn’t be bound to the same expectations. Now we realize we can’t go back in time but our 7 year old self is within and we can do a lot of this self talk now and boost out self esteem.
If you could speak to your seven year old self is there anything you would say to coach them to help them see life differently or make different decisions? You perhaps would teach growth mindset and to speak kindly, and share all those thoughts of wisdom and how to dampen perception of stress.

Episode 24: Solutions To Fear
Fear can be both a motivation and a debilitation. It can move someone into action, such as stepping on a scale and realizing they need to take action, or it can cause someone to curl up into a ball and avoid bad news. This also manifests as any number of tensions and illnesses in our bodies, impacting interpersonal relationships, career, high anxiety, weakness of bones, impotence and more!
Tanya and Mary talk extensively about energy meridians in the body, and how energy can become ‘stuck’ in the chest and throat, appearing as illness.

Episode 23: Conquering New Habits
Each year, as we get closer to year’s end, millions of people hunger for change - weight loss, eat better, be happier, work on mental health, less stress, improve relationships, etc. New Year’s Resolutions are habit, but the things we choose to work on rarely become habits. Stats show that 80% of people GIVE UP on their resolutions by the 2nd week of February! Why? Because they haven’t become HABITS yet. A habit is defined as ‘a behaviour that is done automatically, with little thought like brushing your teeth…”. Behaviours become HABITS due to a few things - repetition and time, plus desire. How many of us put our seatbelts on without being reminded? I’m sure the first few times after seatbelts became law we forgot, but we persevered. We had and have an external rule forcing us. What is the ‘rule’ for our behaviours is our own health and warning signs? High blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, anxiety, stress, etc. Shouldn’t we heed those?
Some studies have shown that habits can take 3 weeks of consistent repetition to truly become a habit. James Clear in his book “Atomic Habits” he suggests that new habits don’t become truly ingrained until between 2-8 months! So, don’t give up on those new behaviours you are working on, soon you’ll be on autopilot on the way to meaningful change!
Join Tanya and Mary on this not-to-be-missed episode of HOW to turn behaviours into HABITS, so that you aren’t one of the 80% that bail on their self improvement goals.

“Everyday Hero Pt 2”
If you want to be inspired in how to reinvent your life, meet Len Stanmore. He is the only person on the planet who has climbed the death zones of 7 highest summits in 7 continents, skied the North and South Pole, crossed four deserts, and ran ultramarathons (100 - 250 km) in crazy treacherous conditions. As you will soon find out, he was not a natural born athlete. In fact, Len considers himself an everyday human who partied hard, ate takeout, drank beer and smoked cigars for decades. At the age of 48, he woke up and decided to try something new, something that would scare him.
No matter what your fitness level (whether you are a beginner or an extreme athlete) or where you are at in life, Len will move you as he shares many life lessons through his stories through his successes, failures and near death experiences.
Deepak Chopra says, “It’s never too late to begin creating the bodies we want instead of the ones we mistakenly assume we are stuck with.”

Have you ever wondered why some people can keep a healthy work/life balance and positive outlook during challenging times? Why does it seem like some people are just equipped to have hard times bounce off them? Through divorce, job changes, covid times, it’s not always easy, but where there is a will there is a way. On this episode of Embrace YOU First, Dr. Tanya Wylde and Mary Wong chat with Evan DeMarco about finding balance through challenging times, and provide YOU with incredible coping strategies to navigate your way through any challenging time.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
They also chat about both the short term and long term effects this pandemic may have on our mental health, so it’s vital that we focus on positive mental health now and in the future, and the 5 pillars of health that will have a positive impact on our lives. There is NEVER a better time than now, but how exactly do we take care of ourselves though chaos? How do we support others in our lives that we care for? What is mental fortitude, and how do we work towards it? They also discuss how as parents we can help our children navigate the strangest time in their lives they’ll likely ever face, this pandemic! Sometimes we are not able to replace these experiences as parents, but we can equip them with coping strategies so that they can thrive, and help them deal with fear and the unknown.

In our past episode we covered WHY it’s important, today we are talking about WHEN to nourish you and what does this look like.
We were always taught the first meal of the day is the most important.
Myth or fact? We will unveil the truth about and discuss:
- How the food industry has impacted our choices
- How sugar impacts fat and metabolism
- Where did this concept come from
- When the best time is to eat our first meal
- Concept of fasting- what it is; the science; the health benefits when done correctly
- Fasting and weight loss.
Depending on your body type and time of life, you may forego intermittent fasting. Always seek the medical advice of your health provider. More on this in When to Nourish You (Part 2).
Nourishment is one of the Pillars of good health. Before we get into specifics about what to nourish you with, it’s fundamental to know why it is important to nourish you.
In this episode, we want to help you identify your Why. Have you ever said to yourself, I should eat better and eat less (or more) but you don’t do it and if you do, it doesn’t last? The truth is, unless you know your “why”, it’s difficult to take action or make lasting changes to your life even though you know it would have you feeling healthier.
Today’s episode:
- Share our personal stories, our ‘why’s’ to take nutrition and nourishment seriously having family members with Type 2 diabetes, a motivating force for us to avoid chronic illness
- Pillar of good health
- Food As Medicine vs. poison)
- Healthy Weight and metabolism//energy/quality of life/metabolic issues
- BMI calculator
- Type 2 diabetes prevention
- Chronic illness prevention
