Gardening for Squares is a show all about Square Foot Gardening - the easy and efficient gardening system developed by Mel Bartholomew in his book "All New Square Foot Gardening".
The show is hosted by Tim Wardell, a suburban backyard gardener living in the Dallas, Texas area. A Certified Square Foot Gardening Teacher and Certified Permaculture Designer, Tim grew up gardening and has always enjoyed the outdoors, plants, nature, and growing things. Through Gardening for Squares Tim helps others discover the joys of gardening the square foot way!
My guest is Phil A. West, General Manager of Palmetto Vermiculite Co.,Inc., which sells vermiculite to major greenhouses on the East Coast. Phil is a gardener himself as well as a manager of residential landscapes for real estate properties. We'll be talking about all things vermiculite as it constitutes 1/3 of the Mel's Mix used by Square Foot Gardeners.
Our guest is Brigit, a wonderful, knowledgeable woman who's been gardening for 50 years! During that time she's practically done it all. Beginning with traditional row gardening to French intensive double-dig gardening and then to the original version of Square Foot Gardening introduced by Mel Bartholomew in 1980. In recent years she's begun using the methods outlined in the newest Square Foot Garden book, "All New Square Foot Gardening." She shares with Gardening for Squares what she's learned from a half century of gardening.
My guest will be Steve Thompson, a veteran square foot gardener who grows 90% of his vegetables in table top square foot gardens. We'll talk about the pros and cons, offer construction tips, and share lessons learned from years of gardening at waist height.
