Eric purchased his first apartment building at just 18 years of age while still at university. After graduation, in his position as an actuary, he was dismayed to see hundreds of company pension plans being rolled over into 401(k)s shifting the retirement risk to employees. A few years later, he lost a fortune during the Dotcom crash of 2001 and he started looking for ways to earn passive income and stop trading time for money. He started various businesses, including a gourmet sauce company, but eventually came back to his first love real estate investing and formed MartelTurnkey.

Marcus Rodgers joins our Cody in this episode to shed light on taking it back to the fundamentals, especially if you’re new to the realm of real estate. He always was curious on how to get ahead in life financially without the expense of others. One day he stumbled upon a book called “Rich Dad Poor Dad” and it changed his life forever and he never looked back.
Marcus’ curiosity led him to get himself involved in real estate as a real estate investor and started the process of building wealth. Upon his journey, he realized that what our youth and the masses are missing is financial education. He wanted to teach the youth and masses what he has learned to bring awareness to help people realize that they have a choice and they are options to jump start your life by learning and educating them about the financial game. Sharing this information is fulfilling to him to see people grow mentally and see a new side of them that they didn’t know was there all along. Educating the world is an important purpose and this will lead to financial freedom for themselves and their family.

Welcome to Real Estate (Un)Success Stories. Drew White was once a pediatric oncology nurse but today he serves as a Modern Wealth Coach and in this episode, he talks to Cody about how a little overconfidence and going with the lowest bidder, cost him time, and money.
When Drew graduated from nursing school with $150,000+ of student loan debt, he realized he would be paying 50% of his earnings (for a very long time) to pay off his loans. That was the first time he understood the true impact of the debt he had created. This experience gave Drew a hunger to understand money better. He was unwilling to accept this debt as his lot in life.
In his late 20s, he created wealth-building side businesses for his family to take control of their future. Over the past 7 years, he has been active as a day-trader, entrepreneur, and real estate investor.
His knowledge and experience in these sectors led Drew to realize there is a better way to maximize money than most people are aware of. As a Modern Wealth Consultant, he is passionate about showing real estate investors and other entrepreneurs how to take control of their money.

Welcome to Real Estate (Un)Success Stories. Join your host Cody Lewis and our guest, Nicole Pendergrass. She shares her one-of-a-kind experience in her first solo deal, which seemed superb at first glance until she discovered heaps of issues. From this misstep, she shares how to move forward and take calculated actions with financial adeptness.
Nicole Pendergrass started her real estate journey with no money, no credit and no connections. She bootstrapped a couple of unsuccessful ventures while building her credit and savings to finally purchase a 3 family house-hack. A few years after, she refi'd her equity and diversified that capital into several wealth building buckets, two of those being joining coaching and mastermind groups. She then closed on her first commercial apartment building as a JV after maximizing connections in her new networks. Welcome to Real Estate (Un)Success Stories. Join your host Cody Lewis as he talks with Denis Shapiro, Managing Partner at SIH Capital Group, LLC. Denis began investing in real estate in 2012 when the market was just beginning to recover from the GFC (Global Financial Crisis). He built a cash flowing portfolio including many alternative assets, such as Note and ATM funds, mobile home parks, life insurance policies, tech start-ups, Industrial property, short term rentals, and more. He co-founded an investment club for accredited investors in 2019. Following the success of his investor club he launched SIH Capital Group. SIHCG provides accredited investors with a simplified strategy to invest for passive income.
Denis has observed key changes in the alternative asset market in the decade of recovery from the GFC. The JOBS Act of 2012 opened many alternative assets up to everyday investors, but clear expertise and guidance is still hard to find nearly a decade later.
This observation compelled Denis to write The Alternative Investment Almanac: Expert Insights on Building Personal Wealth in Non-Traditional Ways in 2021. Welcome to Real Estate (Un)Success Stories. Join your host Cody Lewis as he talks with Jeremy Goodrich about insurance in the context of the real estate industry. He tells us why all investors should insure their properties and gives away tips to determine if the policy they got will really cover what they expect to be covered.
Jeremy owns Shine Insurance Agency with his wife, McKenzie. He’s a teacher at heart and he simplifies insurance by giving step by step guidance along the way. Before Shine, he was an elementary school teacher, helping countless kids fall in love with art, math, science, and writing. Former students remember learning to play hockey in gym class, opening epic businesses in a virtual world called The Businesses Project, and learning to use a sewing machine.
After 13 years of teaching, he decided it was time to change the way people feel about insurance. Jeremy carried the heart of an educator over and he's been making insurance simple for first time home buyers and real estate investors even since.
Most days, Jeremy can be found helping real estate investors by shooting them ball parks, reviewing their policies, and making insurance work for their bottom line. Welcome to Real Estate (Un)Success Stories. Join your host Cody Lewis as he discusses with Tim Bratz about what can truly teach us in the real estate business, what it takes to get in the game, and the factors to ponder on in growing your portfolio.
Tim began his career in the competitive New York City real estate market working as a broker leasing ground floor retail units. Here, he saw the true potential of real estate to transform lives. Although Tim was limited in means, he spent his time reading, attending workshops, and networking with accomplished entrepreneurs learning that being resourceful was the ultimate path to becoming successful.
With this knowledge, Tim embarked on building his real estate company in Charleston, South Carolina, where he had relocated in search of a better quality of life. Arriving in 2008, after the real estate bubble burst, Tim quickly adapted and using a credit card, increased his limit and then wrote himself a balance transfer check to acquire the cheapest property he could find. Armed with his personal investment and plenty of sweat equity, Tim transformed a rundown duplex and turned a profit on his first deal. He then took those proceeds and reinvested them, while seeking private capital to expand his growing company. Today, Tim still uses this formula for success, which all starts with being resourceful and having the right mindset.
