This week's guest on The Talent Waste Show is Tony Medhurst is the Principal & Chief Executive of Hertford Regional College, a general Further Education College with campuses in Broxbourne and Ware. He has been in post since August 2015, having previously held the same position at Harrow College for over 7 years. He chairs the Association of Colleges’ National Curriculum Reform Policy Group and is a member of the British Council’s Education Advisory Group. Tony joined the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership Board in April 2021 and, in addition, sits on Hertfordshire’s Skills and Employment Programme Board.

Since taking up the role at HRC, he has implemented a curriculum delivery model, the “Destination Curriculum”, which is strategically focussed on delivering more than just a qualification in order to prepare young people and adults for the needs of the modern workforce. This has resulted in significantly improved outcomes for learners and has addressed skills needs in the local economy. He has also introduced new higher education programmes and apprenticeships to address skills gaps in the communities the College serves.

He has chaired and spoken at many national conferences over the last decade. He has also been involved in multiple successful international partnerships in countries such as China, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, the US and Vietnam and he has spoken at conferences in several of the countries mentioned. He was a recipient of the London Development Agency’s Education Partnership Award for his work in China. Married with three children, Tony is an award-winning youth football coach in London and Essex.
