If your credit score makes you want to say a four-letter word, take a deep breath and relax. Madeline, co-founder of ScoreED has built her company specifically to help you!

Program Notes In my recent conversation with financial expert Madeline Vetrano she discussed the challenges faced by women climbing the career ladder in that industry. Madeline also revealed that financial infidelity, often referred to as financial adultery, has become the #1 prevailing issue in escalating divorce rates. She revealed that many of her female clients are caught in the crossfire of being named on all debts but not on the assets represented by those loans. Madeline speaks of the increasing number of female clients she works with who find themselves in critical credit card debt due to trying to make a career in multi-level marketing (MLM), network marketing, or associate marketing. Research reveals that around 5% of all women in these industries actually make money, the rest often fall out of the industry or into crimpling debt. NINA SIMONS is Co-founder and Chief Relationship Officer at Bioneers and leads its Everywoman’s Leadership program. Throughout her career spanning the nonprofit, social entrepreneurship, corporate, and philanthropic sectors, Nina has worked with nearly a thousand diverse women leaders across disciplines, race, class, age and orientation to create conditions for mutual learning, trust and leadership development. She co-edited Moonrise: The Power of Women Leading from the Heart, and authored Nature, Culture, and the Sacred: A Woman Listens for Leadership—released as a second edition in 2022 with an accompanying discussion guide and embodied practices. The first edition won Nautilus awards in the categories of Women in the 21st Century and Social Change & Social Justice. Both books are being used to inspire and ignite learning in individuals, circles and classrooms.

I recently had the gift of sitting with author, speaker and social justice advocate, Nina Simons. Starting with how one of the patriarchy’s primary tactics for maintaining dominant control is to prevent women from discovering their full potential as leaders provided a rich and potent conversation. The patriarchy, justifiably, fears that when women come together in relationships built on trust, they have the power to develop each other’s leadership skills profoundly and rapidly. As Nina and I discussed, women are moving past the time of letting the patriarchy’s fear become their limitation. As Nina shared from her years of study, a primary contributor to the hyper- masculinization in which we have been living starting with The Burning Times. 300 years of persecution of women has left deep-seated epigenetic trauma that still effects all people of our current generations. As the listener will hear, Nina is unwavering in her hearts knowing that as women break free from the labels that have been bequeathed to them, we will all become the powerful

leaders who will transform our world. And Nina is committed to opening new pathways for us to make this our collective reality.

Program Notes  Regardless of your opinion on abortion, my recent conversation with Patrice D’Amato will provide information that is both essential and enlightening to all women. From her experiences of having emergency room staff regularly calling to ask for assistance and tutelage on how to treat a patient in their hospital, due to the lack of training while in medical school, to the awareness that abortion is no safer in blue states than red states, her depth and breadth of experience sheds new light on the experience. This conversation was so fascinating and educational that it spanned 2 episodes. I welcome you to listen in and to offer your comments, from any perspective. Engaging in civil discourse on any topic is the path to mutual understanding and sussing out previously unrecognized points of educational benefit.

Bio Patrice D’Amato has spent 38 years as a practicing nurse in both clinical and academic settings with a focus on adult medical surgical, critical care, gerontology, and women’s health. After practicing as a women’s health nurse practitioner in abortion care more than 20 years ago, she left clinical practice to teach nursing at the university level. An award-winning educator, Patrice has served as a university course director for a top- ranked school of nursing. She also serves as a project director for an international health organization dedicated to providing education opportunities in developing countries. Patrice’s passion for nursing started early in childhood as she saw the deep pride and satisfaction her mom and grandmother derived from the early era of professional nursing. She feels fortunate to have been able to delve into a variety of specialties to witness and support people through birth, death, and everything in between. Patrice’s love of both science and spirituality, and how they intersect in the natural world, has guided her to teach and mentor students for many years. She also immensely enjoys a good laugh from her fondness of the world’s quirks and reminders not to take herself or anyone else too seriously.

Born in New York, Patrice now lives in Maryland. In her free time, she volunteers as a hospice singer and teaches conversational English in Spanish-speaking countries such as Spain and Peru. She is an avid Zumba enthusiast, hiker, and lover of historical fiction.

Having the opportunity to speak with Dr. Victoria Ann Hasson about the world of politics
from South Africa to the UK to Australia was a fascinating peek behind the veil of what
is similar worldwide and where the dramatic differences present themselves. Dr Hasson
spoke to her heart and soul commitment to helping women politicians to feel seen in
their experiences of navigating politics; seen in their experiences of trying to be a
soulful, connecting, and whole-hearted leader. Her hope is to enable women to feel
encouraged and supported and to know that their experiences genuinely matter - not
simply to people like Dr Hasson, but to society as a whole. Her approach to helping
women find their voice is rooted in articulating the truth of what it takes to deliver
democracy, to begin reshaping political society, innovating democracy, improving the
quality of democratic processes, and reimagining political leadership styles. I found her
approach of inquiry and investment one that will easily translate into the business world
and serve to help women to move from their greater power. I invite you to tune into this
powerful conversation about holding power to account in a way that allows everyone to
win.
What are the 3 things you want to speak about?
Why it matters that we care about politicians, what made me care about politicians in
the first place, and what I would like to say to any struggling politician.

Bio
I have been so fortunate to work in politics, in parliaments, and with politicians around
the globe for 14 years. I have entered some incredible democratic spaces at pivotal
moments in history, and I have observed the human impact of the political experience
amongst individuals charged with navigating it for all our sake. I started out being
interested in how democratic practices within the national parliament of South Africa
would be re-shaped at the end of apartheid, which was the focus of my PhD. The
majority of those entering the new parliament in 1994 had no experience of democracy
from the inside, and I was fascinated to realise that a person's experience of
democracy, which in this instance was one of exclusion, shapes their actions
irrespective of their current reality and experiences. Since then I have worked
internationally with politicians around the globe and I have come to realisation that all
politicians know their feelings do not matter, and should not matter, to the content of
their policy decisions. Yet, they still have them, and those feelings still play a role in
shaping the form democracy takes, and this form shapes political leadership culture.
Consequently, we may contemplate creating AI politicians to override this, but until this
happens I intend to spend the rest of my life helping us all to understand the reality of
how it feels to deliver democracy, with the ultimate aim of improving the quality of
democratic processes and innovating democratic institutions.

Being a woman of European decent, I always look forward to and value the opportunity to speak with women who are leaders in DE&I for the chance to discover more of my own unconscious bias that was trained from birth. The privilege of having Dr. Sacha Joseph-Mathews as a guest was a powerful experience in this direction. Her wisdom about how common it is to overlook the oppressions of those around us served to heighted my own awareness of oppressive nuances I might have previously overlooked. Combining this with her clear reminder to be mindful of the oppressions that are not external, but rather radiate from within is a call to each of us to listen internally with as much attention as we pay to the outer environment. I am still contemplating her invitation to learn what being our authentic self is, and to notice how some relationships are not healthy for maintaining authenticity. I invite you to tune in to discover how the powerful illuminations of this powerful and generous woman can enhance your own life and perceptions.

A fierce warrior for women’s rights, bodily autonomy, and naming women in the U.S. Constitution, the conversation with Karen Hinton is stimulating and informative. Best known for her role as press secretary to both former Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Karen has always been determined to “speak up not shut up” on issues that impact women. From discussing the Dobbs case that saw the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade, to her experiences with the issue of abortion, both directly personal and within her community, Karen shared her commitment to be instrumental in change and how we can all become change agents in our own communities and the country at large.

Biography

Mississippi native Karen Hinton is a nationally-recognized media professional in
Washington and New York. Best known for her role as press secretary to both former
Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de
Blasio, Hinton played what Politico dubbed the “Helen of Troy role” in the clash between
Cuomo, now the former Governor of New York, and Mayor de Blasio. The New York
Times called the clash “one of America’s ugliest political feuds.”
Hinton cut her teeth as the press secretary for the first Black Congressman from
Mississippi since Reconstruction in 1986. The Democratic National Committee hired her
in 1989, serving a similar role for Ron Brown, who was the first Black Chairman of the
DNC and a key political strategist to elect Bill Clinton as President. In
1995, Hinton joined the Clinton Administration as press secretary for Cuomo at the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development. During that time, President Clinton
began to face charges of womanizing (and worse). Hinton later relocated to New York
and became Mayor de Blasio’s press secretary. She found herself at the center of the
crossfire between longtime frenemies Cuomo and de Blasio, often becoming the subject
of news coverage herself.

Known for never ducking from a fight, Hinton was at the peak of her career when a
catastrophic brain injury from a freak accident confronted her with the battle of her life.
Emerging from a coma, and learning to walk and talk again, Hinton was determined to
“speak up not shut up” on issues involving women, men, and power in politics.

Part II of a powerful conversation. Each time I speak with Wendy Murphy I come away feeling educated, inspired, and informed about the continuing struggle for us, as women, to achieve full human status in the U.S. Constitution. Sharing in conversation with a litigator for the rights of women and children, who is also a scholar in the history of the abuses and small victories of women always clarifies what is still yet to be done. In this conversation, our listeners will learn some of what we can each do on a consistent basis to uplift ourselves, and all of womankind. While only vaguely familiar with Alice Paul prior to meeting Wendy, I have come to love and honor this woman who actually wrote the original Equal Rights Amendment. I continue to find that learning a woman’s history offers clear signals and directional indicators of how we can progress to become an empowered body. I trust that each of you will receive incredible nuggets of wisdom from this conversation.

BIO

Where she also co-directs the Women’s and Children’s Advocacy Project under the Center for Law and Social Responsibility. She writes and lectures widely on the constitutional and civil rights of women and children, and criminal justice policy and is a contributing editor for The Sexual Assault Report,

Wendy’s impact litigation in the area of campus sexual assault, beginning in the early 1990s, includes groundbreaking victories against Harvard College in 2002, and Harvard Law School and Princeton University in 2010, which cases led the way to widespread awareness and reforms, including the well-known April 2011 Dear Colleague Letter.

“I was always sensitive to injustice…but in terms of how I landed doing civil rights and constitutional rights, especially as it pertains to women, I came into it organically.”

An alternative in case that requires too much space.

“I was always sensitive to injustice…but in terms of how I landed doing civil rights and constitutional rights…I came into it organically.” Wendy Murphy

Having the opportunity to welcome Wendy Murphy as a guest provided one of the most fascinating and educational conversations on the plight of women that I’ve ever experienced. From outlining how the law is written to support violence against women to the extent to which there is no one monitoring our judges when they rule in discriminatory ways against women was eye-opening, in the least. Listening to Wendy explain how it is our US Constitution that stands as the underlying cause that allows judges in every courtroom, not just criminal cases, to treat women in a discriminatory way, further ignited my inner passion to fight for women’s rights, in my own smaller way. I invite you to join us for this Part 1 of a two-part conversation on what women need to know in order to stand up for themselves on how the minimization of our entire gender is not just alive and well, but legally sanctioned.

Having the opportunity to hear about Mitzi’s amazing and courageous trek to Ukraine inspired and fascinated me on multiple levels. I got quite a chuckle out of the fact that although approved by the US government to travel as a war correspondent at age 70, NATO deemed her too old. Never one to be stopped, at 81 Mitzi accepted an invitation from General Nebytov of Kyiv Regional Police. Like everyone else, I’ve seen the reports, written and filmed, of the trials of Ukraine’s people, and yet hearing the perspective of a female, American war correspondent filled in so many blanks and has left me with a profoundly increased respect for the courage and tenacity of both Mitzi and the people of Ukraine.

Mitzi Perdue BIO

Mitzi is an anti-human trafficking advocate, a former rice farmer, and the past president of the 40,000-member American Agri-Women. Recently she’s written Relentless, a biography of Mark Victor Hansen, the Chicken Soup for the Soul guy. Royalties for Relentless will go to helping combat human trafficking. Having the opportunity to sit in conversation with Annemarie Shrouder was an incredible honor. Even better is the opportunity to share her wisdom, peace, insights and grace with those of you who tune into Women We Should Know.

I openly acknowledge that my privilege had kept me from considering the difference in how bias is expressed based on the depth of one’s melanin—until I read the title of Annemarie’s book. The very words Brown in a Black and White World shook me out of that ignorance to this being a unique challenge, unto itself.

As Annemarie shared her personal story of finding her way through the shades of others privilege and bias, into a space of such empowerment that she is now recognized as a world leader in the space of ED & I, was filled with immense gratitude for her, her path and what she shares with the world.

I invited you to tune into this powerful episode that will educate, illuminate and expand who you are as a human in this world of diversly different, and wonderfully similar human beings.

Annemarie Shrouder BIO

Annemarie Shrouder has spent more than 20 years in the field of Diversity and Inclusion as a facilitator, consultant, and international speaker, and is the bestselling author of Being Brown in a Black and White World: Conversations for Leaders on Race, Racism and Belonging.

A Diversity & Inclusion expert with a Masters in Bias Awareness, Annemarie inspires awareness and connection. Whether she is presenting to an audience, leading a workshop, consulting with a client, or writing, she creates opportunities for people to see more – more of each other, themselves, and the world around them. In so doing, she facilitates an opening to create spaces where people feel a sense belonging and connection, where they can learn together, and be all of who they are.

These are the spaces where real change can happen – for people, organizations and communities.

Other identities that she brings to her role as a “can opener” include: mother to a 10-year-old daughter, biracial child of immigrants to Canada, queer-identified, nature-lover, believer in the power of connection and the both/and vs the either or, and a multiple gold medal swimmer.

Annemarie works with diversity broadly and is passionate about healing the racial divide.

Lesley recently had the opportunity to share conversation with Ellen Patnaude where she shared the processes she employs to help clients see things in way they never thought about before, whatever the topic. The new insight they gain allows them to discover renewed interest in addressing whatever the “it” is that's getting in their way. Ellen revealed that in addition to helping people to see things in a new way, she challenges them to break down what they want to do differently into "the next conversation" application. Ellen generously shared some of her approaches to helping clients effect these positive changes, which improves their communication and therefore, their lives. One vital point she speaks to extensively is the importance of shifting the societal conversation from, “asking hard or uncomfortable questions” to “asking better questions”. One of the most fascinating things Ellen shares is her recognition of our human addiction to assumption and the ways it limits us. Sharing some of her insights,

Ellen’s new book will be releasing October 1, 2022.

“I Thought You Knew; Confessions of a Chronic Assumer and How You Can Stop Guessing Your Way Through Important Interactions.”

One vital point she speaks to extensively is the importance of shifting the societal conversation from, “asking hard or uncomfortable questions” to “asking better questions”. One of the most fascinating things Ellen shares is her recognition of our human addiction to assumption and the ways it limits us. Sharing some of her insights, Ellen’s new book will be releasing October 1, 2022.

Lesley recently found herself in a conversation that provided her a whole new level of awareness of workplace abuse that untold women, and some men, are experiencing daily. In this episode Aliza Shatzman courageously shares her story of abuse at the hands of a DC Superior Court Judge for whom she was clerking, right out of law school. Aliza shares the devastating results of this experience for which she had no recourse due to judicial immunity from accountability. Courageously, she ultimately picked herself up and is now the President and Co-Founder of The Legal Accountability Project. Her passion and mission is to change the rules of the game that sees women disproportionately facing harassment and retaliation during clerkships. Undeserved punishments that they either suffer in silence or find driving them from the legal profession. Aliza’s organization is providing a voice for the mistreated clerks--particularly, but not exclusively, women--who reach out every day to thank her for speaking out. They openly confess that they could never find the courage to speak publicly, all the while encouraging Aliza to keep going. Tune in for a powerfully illuminative view of women’s challenges and battles from within the center of our legal/judicial system.

In this provocative and timely episode Lesley welcomes Karen Hinton, author of Penis Politics. From early life in Mississippi to Washington DC, NYC and back to Mississippi, plus a side jaunt to New Orleans Karen speaks directly and transparently to the issues she raises in her Best Selling book. She speaks to the listeners of how her abiding commitment to dismantling racism placed her in the position to be a spokesperson regarding its devastating effects.

Karen addresses how the dynamic of how men’s internal struggle becomes an outward abuse of women, and how this is exacerbated in the case of men who hold power in any manifestation. With great respect for what #metoo accomplished, Karen saw there was no attention being given to the middle class and low-income women. The more she studied, the more clearly she realized the degree to which the issue of sexual abuse is pervasive, through every sector of society and even into our schools. Within the pages of her book and during this conversation on Women We Should Know, Karen offers action points that we as women can take to put a stop to these abuses. She reminds women that we are more than 50% of the population, and within that rest great power.

Mississippi native Karen Hinton is a nationally-recognized media professional in Washington and New York. Best known for her role as press secretary to both former Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Hinton played what Politico dubbed the “Helen of Troy role” in the clash between Cuomo, now the former Governor of New York, and Mayor de Blasio. The New York Times called the clash “one of America’s ugliest political feuds.”

Hinton cut her teeth as the press secretary for the first Black Congressman from Mississippi since Reconstruction in 1986. The Democratic National Committee hired her in 1989, serving a similar role for Ron Brown, who was the first Black Chairman of the DNC and a key political strategist to elect Bill Clinton as President. In 1995, Hinton joined the Clinton Administration as press secretary for Cuomo at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. During that time, President Clinton began to face charges of womanizing (and worse). Hinton later relocated to New York and became Mayor de Blasio’s press secretary. She found herself at the center of the crossfire between longtime frenemies Cuomo and de Blasio, often becoming the subject of news coverage herself.

Known from never ducking from a fight, Hinton was at the peak of her career when a catastrophic brain injury from a freak accident confronted her with the battle of her life. Emerging from a coma, learning to walk and talk again, Hinton was determined to “speak up not shut up” on issues involving women, men and power in politics

Join Lesley and her guest Jennifer Aks-Newman for a poignantly unique and empowering look at the lives of womxn. After 16 years of empowering inner-city kids through artistic expression in the NYC school system, COVID struck. Unable to be in the rooms with her kids in the way she had been for so long, Jen shares how she was filled with a longing to get back to her empowerment work, but had to find a new way. Jen tells the story of how her love of womxn and her own talents as a photographer, dancer, producer, film editor, director and coach came together to create herStories. Over the past 18 months Jen has created over 100, 3-5 min films of profound impact. Jen reveals to the listener how she works with womxn to learn their story, then leads them through the creation of a body of raw film. From there Jen applies her poignant and provocative approach to editing and synthesizes the footage into a short film that tells the subject’s entire story. By helping womxn share their stories in such a vulnerable, creative, inspiring and celebratory way, they are able to walk the path of deep healing from innocence to devastation and ultimately the emancipation of Radical Self-Acceptance. Through her art, her vision, her love of womxn and her commitment to humanity, Jen is walking womxn through the abyss to a level of freedom they have never imagined. Through she and Lesley’s conversation Jen shares how each of the womxn, upon viewing their personal story in its completed form, are rendered into a state of awe. Their ability to love, appreciate and revere themselves is fully restored. Jen’s completely individual and inspired approach to this artistic expression is producing transformation for the womxn, the viewer, and for the people connected to the ones watching. An impact that begins with a single womxn, spreads to have impact on a global level.

Due to our not being completely past the pandemic, Jen has started with virtual Gallery Viewings for small audiences. Ultimately, her vision is to create a way and means of her work becoming a traveling show, hopefully presented as uniquely as the work itself.

Jennifer Aks-Neuman, Story Producer and Embodiment Coach founded herStories in response to the pandemic as a way to help Womxn tell their stories of resilience.

Jen has combined her 30+ years of movement, photography, editing, speaking and directing to curate the herStories collection. These videos are meant to educate, inspire, empower and open our hearts and minds to what is possible. Jen’s mission is to shift the mindset of humanity, 1 story at a time.

The list of what women were allowed to do in the professional world sixty years ago is limited to secretarial duties. Fortunately, there were those emboldened and audacious few who ignored all the limitations of the time to carve new inroads for their own fulfillment, and leave doors open behind them to give access to the women who would follow.

Jane Bradley was raised on a sprawling, working ranch in New Mexico and empowered by her cowboy father to go places no woman of her time had ever gone. You can’t command those prices for your paintings, you’re a woman. But she did. You can’t open a gallery on the world-famous Canyon Road in Santa Fe, you’re a woman. But she did. Tired of having to drive all the way to Dallas for art supplies she opened an art supply store, that in its first year became the anchor store in what was then, Santa Fe’s newest outdoor mall. From being one of the earliest Executive Directors of Genesis Business Incubator, University of Arkansas, to moving to Russia to manage a Russian football team, to remaining in Russia during perestroika and working with technology transfer, to returning to New Mexico to found a series of successful businesses, Jane has always made her own rules and done it her own way. Along the path she has spent many years sharing the wisdom gained as a serial entrepreneur by mentoring those who would come up behind her. Join Lesley and Jane for a fascinating conversation into everything from the power and necessity of mentoring to daring to create new pathways.

Jane Bradley is a third generation New Mexican. The love of art and a natural talent made a BFA a natural choice. After success as a studio artist and gallery owner in Santa Fe, Jane became intrigued by the process of business. This interest led to additional education followed by other varying and successful business endeavors. The ability to teach and share has been ongoing and a constant in Jane's life.

Curiosity is the one word that most clearly defines Jane's life. This curiosity has led to many personal and professional successes. From moving to a small hamlet in Arkansas with prince charming - to becoming the Executive Director of the Genesis Business Incubator at the University of Arkansas - to moving on to Russia during perestroika and working with technology transfer - to returning to the much loved and missed New Mexico, each new challenge was attacked with enthusiasm and determination .

Jane was honored and humbled to be named one of the Most Influential Women in New Mexico in 2016 and to have been awarded the governor’s award for Outstanding woman - 2009

Certified Mediator for the Municipal court system working with Juvenile offenders and Parent/teen conflict resolution.

We’ve all heard the term Mindfulness as it has become front and center over the past few years. There are meditation groups, silence groups, yoga groups and untold others, all created to support the achievement of mindfulness. Then there are books, online trainings, social media gurus and more. Simultaneously it has become common to hear admonishments to stay out of the mind and be in the moment. It’s enough to drive one’s mind into an endless spin about what is and isn’t this thing called ‘mindfulness.’ I’ve come to the personal conclusion that it is whatever brings peace and balance. The means of getting there is far less relevant than the ‘emotional state’ of where we are in our own skin.

Anne Sermons Gillis is the leading expert in ease, which is key to mindfulness. She teaches people how to have accomplishment without struggle. Anne helps people see, feel and understand how vulnerability, which so many fear, is in fact one of our greatest superpowers. Leading people into Radical Authenticity and Radical Vulnerability through deliveries that are energized and fun, she gives people an entrance point to their deeper selves that is gentle and accessible. Understanding that healing the pain does not have to be painful Anne has offered a pathway to internal emancipation to people worldwide. Tune in as Anne offers Lesley and the listeners the clarity that there are levels to mindfulness, defines what they are and explains how to easily rest into them.

Anne Sermons Gillis, MS, is an inter-spiritual minister, a life coach, and an author. She is often referred to as the Minister of Mirth. She confounded Connection Church in 1984 (Connection Center for Spiritual Growth) in Memphis, TN, and served as the senior spiritual guide until 1998. Her wisdom, humor, and exuberant presentation style make learning fun. Armed with years of experience in human dynamics, Gillis consistently delivers more than promised. She teaches people how to have accomplishment without struggle by presenting refreshing material that is immediately accessible. “Life is not meant to be a series of to-do lists punctuated by eating and sleeping.” says Gillis. She is the author of 5 books and founder of the EZosophy philosophy. Anne is on the board of Directors of the Theosophical Order of Service and a national speaker for the National Theosophical Society. She is a member of Unity Church of Charleston and the Indio Sangha and practices engaged Buddhism. She lives in Summerville, S. C. with her husband, Jim, and their dog, Lucy.

Micro and Small Business Expert Jackie Nagel joins Lesley in this episode to discuss her passion for micro and small business, where it was born, and essential understandings for success. As Jackie speaks of the excitement she experiences when her clients succeed, and realize ‘they can’ do this, it is clear she is the coach we all wish we had in many areas of life.

Jackie shares her story of watching her father, a small business owner, struggle from day to week to month, and how this directed her toward the coaching specialty of micro and small business. She generously offers actionable insights about how she helps micro and small business owners position themselves for success. Jackie is committed to the principle that business growth is dependent on continual upgrading of skills. She coaches the; “what got us here won't get us there”, premise. Jackie expands on the importance of carving out the time to think & rethink business model and strategies, how to integrate this into your day/week and the cost of not finding time. Listeners who tune in will receive numerous proven success actions and how to apply them.

Jackie Nagel began coaching when there were less than 5000 coaches internationally. Can you imagine? They had to tie themselves in all sorts of knots to explain what they could do for their potential audience. And, of all the directions she could have gone with her practice, Jackie choose to work with the small business entrepreneur. After 23 years, with the advancement of technology and the rate of change accelerating, the complexity of a micro/small business is growing exponentially.

To coin the African proverb, it takes a village, so Jackie created Eureka! to bring together a cohort of micro and small business owners to grow and develop their business together - to learn from each other; to share ideas and find solutions not found online, minimize their struggles, worries, and stress, and achieve their dreams

There are those stories we all hear that reveal a level of resilience that many of us cannot imagine. Mary L. Jury has lived a life that is one of those very stories. Including, the extraordinary events that allowed she and her ‘now’ husband to come to know each other, fall in love, and become the inspiration for one author’s romance novel.

Join Lesley as she follows Mary through her amazing retelling of events that would have crushed a lesser woman to become an inspiration to many. Mary shares some of the key mindsets that lifted her from a wheelchair, having been t-boned on her bicycle. The same mindsets that helped her to remain standing after losing her mother, 32yo son and 8yo niece over a short 10-month period. In 2019 Mary received her certification from Brené Brown to facilitate her Dare to Lead curriculum and is now gearing up to use this in supporting others to heal their own grief.

Mary L. Jury describes her life as a fairly eclectic, non-linear journey. She was a college athlete, single mom, entrepreneur and is now on the journey to coaching, (perhaps around grief) and facilitating Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead curriculum. In 2010, Mary was t-boned by a car while riding her bike. Thrown 40ft she landed on her head. Sustaining substantial injuries, Mary was in a wheelchair for 8 weeks. At that time, her current husband & she had only had 2 dates. Nevertheless, when he heard of the accident he went right to the hospital and visited regularly. The two got to know each other through Mary’s recovery. A romance novelist once used their story as inspiration for a book. They were married in January of 2012. On March 17, 2019, Mary’s mom passed away. 3 weeks later, her 32yo son, Ryan, died (4/12/19- her mother’s birthday) and on January 1, 2020, Mary’s 8yo niece died of cancer. She sold her Contract Furniture Business in January 2022 and looks forward to the next chapter.

There are those moments that impact the entire nation and sometimes the world that we will never forget. Maybe we even remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news. The Oklahoma City Bombing, 911, and the Boston Marathon are just a few. As the days inch by we hear of those lost, those who survived and those injured. More days pass and life resumes its normal pace, except for those who were among the injured and who must find a way to heal, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

On April 15, 2013, Jennifer Kauffman was standing 15’ from where the second bomb went off during the Boston Marathon. Years of working to heal later, in a fit of completely out of control road rage, Jennifer found herself chasing down another person who had cut her off in traffic. Gratefully, not only was no one harmed, but it woke her up to herself in a whole new way and the truest healing was able to begin.

A big part of Jennifer’s healing journey was directing and producing the film There’s Got to be More to Life, theresgottobemoretolife.com A film she hope’s will help others to move through the transformational process of shifting from surviving to thriving. Just Lesley as she speaks with Jennifer of the amazing, painful, and ultimately liberating journey that brought her to a level of wholeness beyond what she knew prior to the bombing.

Jennifer is the Director and Producer of the transformational movie, theresgottobemoretolife.com, based on a true story of Jen’s journey of rising up from terrorism and childhood traumas where she went from barely surviving to thriving. She’s an Executive Producer of 2 Emmy and Telly award winning films, A New Leash on Life: The K9’s for Warriors Story and Freedom Isn’t Free: The Folds of Honor Story. She’s an inspirational speaker, best-selling author, award-winning results coach and founder of The Rise & Thrive Movement.

Through Transformational Movies, Jen is on a mission to inspire, encourage and empower people to rise despite seemingly impossible situations, transforming their trauma, enabling them to rise and thrive to live their best life.

It’s no secret that only in the past 10-15 years have women started breaking through the patriarchal standards that kept any of us with aspirations that exceeded “Girl Friday” out of the room. It is with respectful gratitude to those mighty women who came on the scene early and refused to be hidden in a corner that we are now reaching into the highest echelons of business and politics.

Barbara Kline is just such a fierce and audacious woman. The first woman in a majority of the great rooms of the tech industry having stood tall and looked right in the face of questions like, “but what if you get pregnant” or the rebuffs of, “you’ll be taking the job away from a man who has a wife and kids to support.” Questions and statements that are purely unimaginable to the millennial and Gen-Z women of today’s business world.

Tune in for this conversation between Barbara and Lesley of those early days and the ones that followed when during the .com crash, Barbara naturally transitioning into entrepreneurship, founding numerous companies. And ultimately starting another entirely new career in her 60’s.

Barbara Kline is Certified Business Broker and a Senior Advisor with Absolute Investment Realty, a commercial real estate firm in Albuquerque, NM. She was a serial entrepreneur for many years prior to getting her first certification as a business broker. She has founded numerous companies including Breakthru Communications, a public relations firm specializing in promoting technology and technology companies, a day spa, an events center, and a publishing company. She has worked internationally, spending three years in Brussels with Intel and one year as VP of Global Marketing for a Dutch software company. Barbara was an early member of the Corrales Mainstreet Board and, during her six-year tenure, was instrumental in developing a firm footing for the government/community partnership. In 2008 she received a state Mainstreet award for Excellence in Fundraising. She also served on the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce board for three years where one of her roles was liaison to the Corrales business community. One of her proudest accomplishments was organizing and leading a trade mission to Israel that was a jointly sponsored by ACI and the NM-Israel Business Exchange, where she was a board member. Barbara is a passionate supporter of business owners. She uses her experience to help business owners with property sales, purchases and leases, as well as helping owners reap the rewards of their investment in their businesses at the time of sale. When she is not working, she loves to travel and through her international work, she has acquired a “working knowledge” of French and Spanish and can make her way through a newspaper or a basic conversation. Her German is limited to asking for a hotel room and reading menus. She also designs custom jewelry and experiments with cooking onion-free meals for her picky spouse. She is a lapsed Master Gardener and plants a vegetable garden every year, which sometimes produces vegetables.

Lesley was recently joined by Joan Michelson who shared fascinating insights as to why she is known for telling everyone to leaders she coaches individually to Fortune 100 companies for whom she consults, “Hire the outliers.” Joan walks the listener through understanding why despite close to 72% of CEO’s state innovation to be one of their top 3 priorities, close to 70% also claim to have a hard time driving innovation. The simple understanding Joan offers is that too often they hire for mediocrity, based on fit and past experience in doing things the way they have always been done. She shares her secret to bringing companies new levels of success as being the encouragement to hire the outlier, who they fear won’t fit in, or will rub certain leaders the wrong way.

The listener is sure to be inspired with Joan’s story of developing her own podcast that features outlier women who are coming from different backgrounds and bringing a different take to problem solving. With a skilled focus on the space of ESG—environment, social and governance issues, Joan outlines why it holds powerful potential for women looking for a job with purpose or looking to do business in an industry that aligns with their values.

Join Lesley and Joan for vital insights that every woman will benefit from understanding in order to make themselves stand out and become a sought-after member of the team they want to join.

IN CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH:

Lesley recently experienced the honor of sharing a conversation with Dr. Martha Burk who has lived and worked on the forefront of the struggle for women’s rights for the majority of her life. Dr. Burk guides the listeners on an edifying walk through the details, nuances and progressions of the legislative struggles that have been taken on behalf of women through the decades. Glancing back to 1871 when the 14th amendment was passed that claimed to give all person’s equal protection, she reminds the listener that ‘persons’ was exclusive to men. The conversation proceeds to 1920, 52 years later, when women finally got the vote. Dr. Burk drops in on the 1960’s when the Equal Rights Amendment was forming and the early 1970’s and the struggle for ratification. Finally, on to 2020, 149 years after men were given equal protection under the U. S. Constitution, the Equal Rights Amendment received the number of state ratifications necessary to give women equal protection under the U.S. Listeners will learn why this did not produce resolution to that protracted struggle. Through this journey Dr. Burk highlights the struggles that are yet ongoing and a deep understanding of those, once thought resolved, are back in the frame, and are a threat to all women, be they feminist or not.

Mitzi Perdue is the daughter of the co-founder and president of the Sheraton Hotel Chain, and she is also the widow of another business titan, Frank Perdue, the chicken guy who's products are now sold in more than 50 countries. In her early years she became one of only nine women who were rice farmers, and the only one who did it on her own versus inheriting a farm from a deceased husband. During those years she also became president of the oldest Farm Women’s Organization. In her 30’s Mitzi had an experience that inspired her to follow her lifelong dream of becoming a writer, publishing and being on radio. This led to her having her own television show that was syndicated to 72 stations. She is also a longstanding member of Business and Professional Women.

IN CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH:

Lesley was honored to welcome Mitzi Purdue as her guest. The listener is sure to be inspired and charmed by Mitzi’s stories of building a career centered on overcoming fear of failure. Starting her adult life as a young woman too shy to enter a room, Mitzi spent her first three decades not doing the things she longed for out of fear of rejection. Her delightful retelling of the experience that awakened her to the realization that acting from fear of failure is the ultimate guarantee of meeting that failure will speak to many women who have held themselves back for long enough. Redefining failure as the act of not trying and choosing to see every rejection as an invitation to say, “next”, set Mitzi on a path that led to writing, being regularly published and having her own television show. Mitzi revealed to Lesley that through all her phases of life, during which she was often the only woman in the room, she lived with a consciousness of wanting to open a way for the women who would come after her.

Fierce advocate, warrior career mom, bold change maker and former federal prosecutor, Amy Conway-Hatcher recently joined Lesley for a compelling conversation on women, the professional disparities they face, and daring to live what we really believe in.

Amy speaks of how women are often the frog in the pot, remaining in limiting situations out of necessity. As Amy shared with Lesley, she experienced this as a multitude of papercuts that ultimately became one too many. Asking herself the question, will I continue to let the systems change me, lead me further away from myself, or will I step out and be the change the system needs, was a profound pivot moment.

Lesley and Amy discuss the complexities of women counseling their friends, sisters, daughters to walk away from situations that make them small, while personally remaining in those very systems.

Highly insightful is Amy speaking of conversations with women her senior pointing out the conversations around women in the workplace are the same as 20-30 years ago. Amy speaks clearly about the fact that the second women in law can’t advocate for themselves within the system, they are limited in their ability to advocate for women, as a whole. This conversation between two women committed to contributing to real change will inspire and challenge the listener to take a closer look at their own situation.

Amy Conway-Hatcher is a fierce advocate, warrior career mom, bold change maker and former federal prosecutor. After decades of managing 24/7 crises, climbing to the upper echelons of Big Law, and sacrificing family for career She walked away from her high-paying equity partner job to reclaim her life.

Publisher, author, coach, consultant and podcaster host, Juliet Clark joins Lesley for a deep dive into the nuances of navigating from the traditional publishing world to marketing and advertising and ultimately, developing a boutique publishing company. Juliet’s first book, which was written as a cathartic exercise during a torturous divorce, allowed her to both process the experience by murdering her husband on paper and introduced her to the, then standing, horrendous self-publishing business models of the moment. Two books and a great deal of focused research later, she was ready to launch a boutique publishing company that supports authors on many essential levels. Juliet speaks to the importance of creating a strong brand in advance of book release, so the book becomes a powerful credibility and nurture tool. She also addresses the growing focus on developing power partnerships vs just a social media presence and elaborates on the difference between the clicks gained through JV relationships and professional acceleration gained through authentic, power-sharing relationships.

Juliet Clark is a six- time author, speaker and podcaster who has spent the last twenty years helping authors, coaches, speakers, and small businesses all over the world build expert audiences.

She founded and heads Super Brand Publishing, a boutique publishing company that focuses on helping authors to build a strong brand in advance of their book release. Elizabeth Bachman recently joined Lesley to discuss her journey from actress to director, to directing over 50 operas, featuring such luminaries as Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, to forming a non-profit opera organization that supported young up and coming opera singers, to becoming THE go-to coach for professional women in leadership, to becoming a much sought-after speaker in her own right. As such, she is highly revered throughout Silicon Valley, as well as nationally and international. Elizabeth shares how this journey revealed that the skills to sell a product or company are not that different from selling a song. Learning how to be the person out front in order to build her non-profit organization taught her how to speak with authority so that both women and men would listen, skills she now passes onto high level women in tech and law. Elizabeth helps women understand how they are sabotaging themselves. One of the key points Elizabeth garnered though her many pivots was being able to ask for help without falling into the trap women fall into, of feeling like a failure because they can’t ‘do it all’ by themselves. Among the many interesting points Elizabeth discusses is understanding she’s developed by owning an international company about the difference in assumptions about how things work, based on different country cultures. Please join us for this fascinating conversation.

Elizabeth Bachman is the founder of Strategic Speaking for Results and THE go-to person for advanced level training in Speaking, Presentation Skills, Sales and Leadership.

Hailing from Portland, OR., he grew up as an actress then switched to directing in college and found artistic home as an opera director.

Elizabeth brings a global experience to her clients, including being fluent in 5 languages.

She discovered the Art of speaking to get results when she founded an Austrian-American opera company and had to raise $100,000 through speaking. (Mostly in $100 increments)

However, after 30 years of teaching as well as directing such luminaries as Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo in more than 50 operas around the world, Elizabeth realized she was losing the ability to be transported by the glory of music. It was time to do something else.

All of her interests came together when in 2011 she started training presenters.

Elizabeth works with high-level women in tech and law who aren’t being heard when they speak at meetings. And thus they see promotions pass them by. Elizabeth helps them develop strategies for raising their profiles within the company, while setting themselves up as thought leaders through interviews and publications.

Elizabeth is a sought-after speaker and strategist in Silicon Valley, nationally and internationally.

She also hosts the internationally respected podcast: Speakers Who Get Results.

Elizabeth divides her time between the West Coast of the US and the Austrian Alps. She is happily married, love walking in nature and curling up on the couch with a cat science fiction/fantasy novel.

Heather Markel recently joined Lesley for an exciting conversation about her bold decision to shift from successful New York executive to being a single woman living an audaciously free worldwide experience. Sharing pivotal moments in this personal journey, Heather reveals the moment of learning to navigate from her heart instead of her head, the angst of where to land first, and her discovery of a surprising number of people already living either an expat or nomadic life. Heather also shares insights from her inner journey of learning to accept help and care, after a lifetime of supreme independence. Fascinating is how she is maximizing the blessing of our current virtual world, especially since COVID, to create her new full life. Through her business coaching, development of The Expat Coach Association and The Expat Coach Directory, and now coaching people interested in making a similar shift, Heather is building a network of friends that spans the Earth. This is a conversation that is sure to inspire and entertain.

Heather Markel, CPC, quit her 25+ year career in corporate (France Telecom, British Telecom and AT&T) in 2017 to pursue her passion; traveling the world and meeting wonderful people. She intended to take a career break, and turned her passion into a way of life. Since January 2018, she's been to 6 continents and 27 countries, including the blessing of getting marooned in New Zealand for 2 years during the pandemic. Heather now teaches frustrated professionals over 40 who want to leave their job to travel full time, tackle the mindset, money and planning logistics to make it happen. She may have inadvertently started The Great Resignation.

Heather speaks 6 languages. Her passion for culture and travel started when she spent a summer, as a teenager, living with a French host family in Normandie, France. She went, an only child of divorced parents from New York City, and found herself with 8 siblings on a farm in the middle of nowhere. She learned to love beer, appreciate Calvados, and love cows.

Heather created The Expat Coach Association and The Expat Coach Directory in 2010 to help this unique industry get more attention. She then transitioned to business coaching, creating BullBuster Business Coaching, where she helps 6-figure clients in a business slump to identify why their business has slowed, and then create a plan for them to achieve the success she wants. In 2018, she launched Heather Begins. It started as a travel blog, and has become a resource to inspire others to travel full time, with, or without, a full time job. In 2021, she launched a Facebook group, Full Time Travelers And Nomads, which now has almost 3,000 members.

Angela Legh joined with Lesley to share her fascinating life story is the inspiration for the children’s book series, The Bella Santini Chronicles. Through an unimaginable cycle of life repeating itself, Angela nearly drowned at six, followed by her family home burning to the ground. Years later, her adult family home burnt to ashes in the Tubbs Wildfire, and she nearly drowned while on holiday in Portugal. She shares her journey of life forcing her to stop and examine everything she had ever thought and believed of herself to discover the authentic Angela. Channeling what she was learning for herself into a series of children’s books she presents beautiful tales that give children permission to know their feelings and use them as sources of courage, resilience and inspiration. Join Lesley and Angela for an inspiring conversation filled with nuggets for rising from your own moments of fire and water.

Angela Legh grew up in San Francisco, CA. She had an alcoholic father and an angelic mother, who both had a profound impact on her life.

Her father taught her that the behaviors of others made her a powerless victim; her mother taught her to be loving to everyone; including those who hurt you.

Angela’s family home was destroyed by fire when she was six years old. She grew up to marry an emotionally abusive man; she stayed for 32 years because she had not yet developed the internal strength to leave.

Fire and water intruded on her life again with the 2017 Tubbs Wildfire in Northern California which reduced her home to ash. For the second time she almost drowned in the Atlantic off the coast of Portugal.

The return of these earlier losses forced Angela to examine everything about herself and her life.

Angela is now an author and self-development mentor. Her children's book series, The Bella Santini Chronicles, has received high praise and is known for helping children learn how to manage their emotions.

Her online course, entitled Live! Love! Laugh! gives adults in-depth insights into how to step out of victimhood and access your inner joy.

Have you ever dared to leap into the complete unknown to chase a dream?

This was the path of Jenna Ciralli, from the quiet prairies of Montana to NYC and back again. Lesley sat down with Jenna to discuss her life as an actress, writer. nominee for an Irene Ryan Award for her performance as Liz Morden in Timberlake Wertenberger's "Our Country's Good,” and founder of two NYC theater companies. Jenna credits this time with building her spine, teaching her how to produce her own work and build an artistic community.

In 2017 Jenna was a Webby Award Honoree for her YouTube film, "Casting Call | The Project" - a call to action for female-created content, which gained 2.4M views in its first 7 days. Jenna courageously intertwines her personal and acting lives to explore the power within the tension of our intrinsic opposites. This both fuels and informs her passion for giving women space and voice through film.

She shares her inspiring journey of learning to unapologetically balance the risks of jumping when both directions carry risk and each will have a cost. Something she met face-to-face when leaping from Montana to NYC.

Again, years later when she returned to Montana, and its blossoming film industry, fascinated with the great west. Jenna is a two-time Big Sky Grant recipient for two short films. "Willow Creek Road,” for which she was creator/lead actress and toured the film festival circuit. And the upcoming, “Homestead," which revisits the Western landscape through an interior feminine gaze.

Breaking traditions throughout her career Jenna and her writing partner are currently developing a TV Series entitled "Searchers," centered in speaking truth to women, about women. www.jennaciralli.com
