Foot health is tied to our overall health in many ways. The foot’s complex structure, with 26 bones and 33 joints, works to properly carry you an average of 115,000 miles in your lifetime! Given this complexity, it will come as no surprise that 75% of Americans will experience foot problems such as plantar fasciitis, hammer toes, hyperhidrosis/odor, bunions, and toenail disorders (the most common foot problem). While caring for the foot issues of the general population, most nurses will take at least 9,000 steps per shift. This session reviews how nurses can protect their feet and circulation as well as those of their patients.

Nurses always have been…and will continue to be…at the forefront of healthcare. Pandemics, increased healthcare needs, and lack of resources have resulted in serious consequences for the nursing workforce, including staff shortages, compensation inequities, unrelieved moral suffering, burnout, and collective grief. The public, and by extension healthcare leaders and organizations, may assume that nurses will continue to serve — regardless of the circumstances — believing that their commitment to patients will take precedence over their own welfare and that they will continue to fill the gaps in stressed or dysfunctional systems. Now is the time for nurses to stand tall and proud for what they contribute to the nation’s health. Join us to learn how to share the value of your professional expertise and build a better future for nursing. Learn More…

In this webinar, you’ll learn:

  • how all nurses have the opportunity to reshape the perception and image of nursing. We’ll follow the journey to where we are as a profession and what we can do about it.
  • empowering language to help educate patients and the general public so they better understand nursing competence, knowledge, clinical judgement, and innovation.
  • actions all nurses can take to help re-imagine nursing’s relationship with the public as a social covenant rather than a social contract.

Hospital systems and clinical leaders are challenged with creating environments and systems to help lift some of the burden placed on healthcare professionals. In this course, we’ll discuss system wide solutions to address these challenges, and in particular, how technology can play a pivotal role in lightening the load, and the positive impacts these changes have on nurse wellbeing, and patient care.

Course Objectives:

  • The three different types of cognitive load
  • The factors that contribute to cognitive overload
  • How a heavy cognitive load impacts nurses and patients
  • Solutions to address cognitive overload

The critical need for experienced nurses in the field of informatics—particularly in the growing age of AI and IT influence on medicine and patient care.

The complex field of Nursing Informatics is defined as taking “the clinical and the technical languages of health and translating them into one.” Nursing Informaticists hold the power to:

  • Utilize and expand nurses' influence and impact from floor-specific to a wider community of care
  • Leverage technology and clinical expertise in order to maintain the focus on patient safety
  • Apply data to stem the nation’s opioid crisis
  • Expand outreach to underserved patient populations in the community

The panel will relate under-reported, real-world cases to highlight how attainment of an advanced degree in Nursing Informatics uniquely equips the mid-career nurse to join an area of the nursing profession that is revolutionizing the redesign of healthcare in the United States.

Learn the history and details behind the critical surge in the need for Advanced Practice RNs (APRNs) and particularly Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs). We will explore all of the “why’s:"

  • The existing and projected needs gap
  • How APRNs and FNPs became documented as the most needed of the advanced nursing degrees
  • The fiscal potential and increased clinical and professional autonomy enjoyed by FNPs

This will be followed by an item-by-item examination of research exploring the challenges to nurses’ pursuit of these advanced degrees, their commonality within the nursing community, plus the potential of the degree’s attainment and reward in recognition, remuneration, and clinical respect.

Finally, our panel will examine the added societal value of filling gaps in primary care practitioner roles within underserved areas.

This webinar is the first in a two-part series that will address the growing need for advanced practice nurses in today's healthcare environment and how nurses will play a critical role in the future as interprofessional practice continues to unfold.

With the nurse shortage at crisis levels even before the pandemic hit, what are the flaws or shortcomings of conventional approaches to staffing that keep nurse leaders chronically in “firefighter mode”? While a great majority of healthcare organizations cite nurse retention as a key strategic imperative, only a little over a third of them have actually implemented a formal retention strategy. Why isn’t nurse retention more reflected in actual operational practices or planning?

Join Bryan Dickerson, Senior Director of Healthcare Workforce Solutions at Hospital IQ, Shawna Gunn, Manager of Operations at MercyOne, Des Moines, and Danielle Bowie, DNP, RN, NE-BC, Vice President of Nursing Workforce Development at Bon Secours Mercy Health, Cincinnati, OH, as we discuss:

  • What the healthcare industry can learn from other industries
  • What are the opportunities and benefits of predictive analytics that can be leveraged to alleviate the nurse leaders’ constant staffing chase
  • See how leveraging technology can streamline both communications and preplanning, enabling nurse leaders to make proactive adjustments faster and more efficiently

The nursing community was shocked and saddened with the conviction of former RN RaDonda Vaught for criminally negligent homicide and abuse of an impaired adult because she mistakenly administered vecuronium rather than Versed to a 75-year-old woman awaiting an imaging procedure. The patient died.

Nurses are at the sharp end of errors, the point where the error reaches the patient, and are therefore vulnerable to blame. How can the healthcare systems better protect caregivers at the sharp end and the patients in their care from harm?

The panel discusses key issues related to the Vaught case, including the impact on the reporting of near misses and adverse events, nursing retention, and public perception about medical error. The immediate, short- and long-term impact of serious adverse effects on everyone involved will be outlined.
