The dailies are in and we’re watching Matilda! Our 51st episode and 3rd of the Robin Swicord run, we may not be telekinetic geniuses but we're doing our drunken best. Written by Robin and Nicholas Kazan, directed by Danny Devito, and starring Mara Wilson, Rhea Perlman, and Mr. Devito himself, this is a cult classic and a childhood favorite for Kate. Which naturally means Blake has a lot to say. So, pour yourself a Moby Drink and hit play — Brewvies is back!
Moby Drink
Ingredients:
1 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Blue Curaçao
3 oz Lemon-lime unsweetened club soda (like La Croix)
1 Swedish gummy fish per drink
Instructions:
Combine the vodka and the Curaçao over ice in the glass of your choice and top with the soda. Top with a Swedish fish speared with a skewer, Moby Dick Style.

The dailies are in and we’re watching The Curious Case of Benjamin Button! Our 50th episode and second of the Robin Swicord run. We certainly aren't aging backwards (Blake has whole exercises just for his knee pain) so we've decided our advanced age is just even more reason for us to give our unsolicited opinions over a drink. Sazerac
Ingredients:
- Absinthe
- 1 sugar cube
- 2 ½ oz Cognac or rye whiskey
- 3 dashes of Peychaud’s bitters
- Lemon twist
Instructions:
Rinse an old-fashioned glass with absinthe, discard, then fill the glass with crushed ice. Muddle the sugar cube with a few drops of water in another old-fashioned glass, and add a few large ice cubes. Add in the cognac or rye, and bitters, and stir gently to combine. Discard the ice in the first glass, then strain the cocktail into this prepared glass. Add a twist of lemon.

Ingredients
- 1.5 oz gin
- 1/2 oz créme de violette
- 1/2 oz lemon juice
- ice
- sparkling wine
- edible blossoms [for garnish]
Instructions
- In a shaker filled with ice, combine the gin, créme de violette, and lemon juice.
- Shake well.
- Strain into a couple, and top with sparkling wine.
- Garnish with edible blossoms, and for heaven's sake, take the carriage.

1 Part Lime Juice
4 Dashes Orange Bitters
1 Part Runny Honey
1½ Parts Triple Sec
Ginger Ale
Blueberry
Lime
Directions:
Fill a shaker with ice cubes. Add lime juice, orange bitters, runny honey and triple sec. Shake and strain into a wine glass filled with ice cubes. Top up with ginger ale. Garnish with blueberry and lime.

Ingredients:
- 1 Oz. Blue Curacao
- 3/4 Oz. Crystal Head Vodka
- 3/4 Oz. Bacardi Superior White Rum
- 1-1/2 Oz. Fresh Pineapple Juice
- 1/2 Oz. Small Hands Orgeat Syrup
- 3 Dashes Scrappy's Lime Bitters
- Ice Cubes
Directions:
- Chill the glass in the freezer.
- Fill your cocktail shaker with ice then add the other ingredients.
- Shake until chilled then strain into an ice filled, chilled glass.
- Add the alien gummy to the rim then add drops of the B'Lure down the inside of the glass or over the back of a spoon and let to settle at the bottom, then serve.

Magnolia Sunrise
Ingredients
- 4 ½ cups orange juice
- 1 ½ cups vodka
- ⅔ cup frozen cranberry juice concentrate, thawed
- Ice cubes
Instructions:
Stir together orange juice and vodka in an ice-filled pitcher. Strain ice, as you pour mixture into each of 6 tall glasses.
To layer the drinks, slowly pour cranberry concentrate down the inside of each glass, while slightly tipping glass.

Ingredients:
- 40 ml of Hennessy Very Special cognac
- 100 ml of ginger ale
- Lime slice
- Slice of ginger
- Minimum 12 oz glass
Pour the cognac into a minimum 12 oz glass (try to find a glass that is art deco in style). Add ice cubes up to the rim. Pour the ginger ale in. Garnish with a lime slice or slices of fresh ginger.

Our 32nd episode and 2nd of the Ingrid Bergman run, this movie coined the term "Gaslighting" — which, for those of you running across it for the first time, means to "manipulate (someone) using psychological methods into questioning their own sanity or powers of reasoning". So, naturally, this is really lighthearted, fun film...okay not really, but the performances are great!
Bergman plays a woman who returns from Italy ten years after her aunt was murdered in their London home, to resume residence with her new husband. His obsessive interest in the home rises from a secret that may require driving his wife insane. Co-starring Charles Boyer and directed by George Cukor this one is a doozy. The dailies are in and we’re watching Spellbound! Our 31st episode, this marks the end of the Gregory Peck run and the beginning of the Ingrid Bergman run! Two icons of the screen meet in this Hitchcock film. Bergman plays a psychiatrist who protects the identity of an amnesia patient (Peck) accused of murder while attempting to recover his memory. This is definitely a unique ride so, pour yourself a Spellbound and hit play — Brewvies is back!

- 2 oz Vodka

- 1.5 oz Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

- 1/8th teaspoon purple luster dust
- Fill the cocktail shaker halfway with ice and add your vodka, triple sec, lemon juice, grenadine, blue curacao, and purple luster dust.
- Shake until the shaker is frosty.

The dailies are in and we’re watching To Kill A Mockingbird! Our 30th episode and 3rd of the Gregory Peck run, this adaptation of the American classic novel of the same name is a household name — for good reason. This is one of Peck's more well known roles. He plays Atticus Finch a widowed lawyer in Depression-era Alabama, defends a Black man against an undeserved rape charge, and tries to educate his young children against prejudice.
So, pour yourself a Tequila Mockingbird (I know, I know, be more predictable) and hit play — Brewvies is back!
Ingredients
- 2 ounces of tequila
- 3/4 ounces of lime juice
- 3/4 ounces of agave syrup
- 1 slice of jalapeno
- 3 1-inch watermelon cubes
Instructions

Start by muddling the watermelon cubes and jalapeno slice together in the bottom of a chilled shaker. Don't mash too hard. You only need to extract the juices.

Next, add the tequila, lime juice, and agave syrup.

Then add the ice. Shake the shaker vigorously for about 30 seconds. When the outside is covered in beads of cool condensation, the drink is ready.

Use a fine strainer to block any bits of watermelon and jalapeno. Generally, Tequila Mockingbirds are served either on the rocks or in a chilled highball glass.

Our 29th episode and second of the Gregory Peck run, this film (available on Freevee) is a wild diversion from last week's light hearted Roman Holiday. The Boys From Brazil follows a Nazi hunter (Lawrence Olivier) in Paraguay who discovers a sinister and bizarre plot to rekindle the Third Reich. A bizarre plot lead by Peck's Dr. Josef Mengele and aided by James Mason's Eduard Siebert. It's a doozy of a film filled with murder, intrigue, and clones...yeah...clones.

- 1 oz bourbon or brandy
- 2 dashes of bitters (we love angostura bitters)

- Mix gin, bourbon, lime juice cordial and bitters into a cocktail shaker
- Add ice and shake

The dailies are in and we’re watching Roman Holiday! Our 28th episode, 4th of the Audrey Hepburn run, and 1st of the Gregory Peck run, this is one of the most charming and bittersweet rom-coms of all time. Written by Dalton Trumbo and directed by William Wyler this film follows a bored and sheltered princess (Hepburn) who escapes her guardians and falls in love with an American newsman (Peck) in Rome. It's a classic and a favorite of Kate's, so pour yourself a Sant'Angelo Sunset and hit play — Brewvies is back!
Sant’Angelo Sunset
½ cup blackberries
3 oz Cinzano sweet red vermouth
1 tablespoons sugar
6 oz Prosecco
Stir together blackberries, vermouth, and sugar. Let stand 1 hour until juices are released and sugar dissolves.
Spoon 2 tbsp. blackberry juice and 2-3 blackberries into a champagne flute or coupe. Top with Prosecco.

The dailies are in and we’re watching Wait Until Dark! Our 27th episode and 3rd of the Audrey Hepburn run. Co-starring Alan Arkin as Hepburn's stalker, this film follows a recently blinded woman (Hepburn) who is terrorized by a trio of thugs while they search for a heroin-stuffed doll they believe is in her apartment. Yikes...this one definitely calls for a stiff drink to get you through. So, pour yourself a Manhattan After Dark and hit play — Brewvies is back!
Manhattan After Dark
Ingredients:
- Rye whiskey Woodford Reserve 1.5oz
- Amaro 0.5oz
- Lillet rouge 0.5oz
- Abbott's bitters 0.03oz
- Red maraschino cherry 0.15oz
- Ice cubes 10oz
Directions:
- Pour 0.5 oz of amaro, 0.5 oz of Lillet Rouge and 1.5 oz of rye whiskey into a mixing glass
- Add 1 dash of Abbott's bitters
- Fill the glass with ice cubes and stir gently
- Strain into a chilled champagne saucer
- Garnish with a Maraschino cherry on a cocktail skewer

The dailies are in and we’re watching Charade! Our 26th episode and 2nd of the Audrey Hepburn run, this is one of Kate's all time favorite movies. Co-starring the charming Cary Grant and directed by Stanley Donen (who also directed Guess Who's Coming to Dinner which we covered here - https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/ZZjbtobUJyb), it's often called "the greatest Hitchcock movie Hitchcock never made", although Kate and Blake aren't so sure. Cosmopolitan Charade
Ingredients:
1/2 cup cranberry juice cocktail
1/2 cup no-sugar-added white grape juice
2 tbsp lime juice
Ice
Vodka
Directions:
Step 1: Combine the juices in a cocktail shaker, add some ice, and shake until combined and well chilled.
Step 2: Strain into a martini glass, add a splash of orange seltzer, stir, and serve garnished with the orange slice.

Ingredients:
1 ounce vodka
1 ounce Blue Curacao liqueur
4 - 5 ounces lemonade

We continue our Blake Edwards run with a look at the movie everyone knows because Kurt Hummel performed Le Jazz Hot on Glee and changed lives. Anyways...it's Victor/Victoria! An incredibly fun film, it stars Julie Andrews and Robert Preston. Andrews is a struggling female soprano who finds work playing a male female impersonator, but it quickly proves to complicate her personal life. Since the film takes place in Paris it was only natural for Blake and Kate to get trashed on French 75s. Go on, join them! You know you want to.
Drink: French 75Ingredients:
1½ ounces gin, such as Hendrick's
¾ ounce fresh lemon juice
¾ ounce simple syrup
2 ounces Champagne
Long spiral lemon twist (for serving)
Preparation
Step 1: Combine gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds.
Step 2: Strain cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer or a slotted spoon into a large flute. Top with Champagne; garnish with lemon twist.

Inspector Jacques Clouseau is on the case! Kate and Blake have drunk a case...so that's kind of similar, right? Brewvies is back, continuing it's Blake Edwards run with The Pink Panther (1963). Directed by Blake Edwards and starring Peter Sellers (Clouseau), David Niven, Robert Wagner, and Capucine this screwball mystery/comedy started a franchise that's been adored ever since. But, does the original hold up against the iconic films that came after it? Find out what Kate and Blake think after they've had a few Pink Panthers.
Pink Panther:
Ingredients* 1 cup crushed ice * 1 fluid ounce amaretto liqueur * 1 fluid ounce vodka * 8 fluid ounces pineapple juice * 1 teaspoon grenadine syrup * 1 slice fresh pineapple * 1 maraschino cherry
Directions1. In a blender combine ice, amaretto, vodka, pineapple juice and grenadine. Blend well and pour into a tall chilled glass. garnish with an umbrella, pineapple slice and cherry.

The dailies are in and we're watching The Great Race! The 1965 screwball comedy directed by our next subject, Blake Edwards wasn't a box office hit, but it is somewhat of a cult classic among the camp communities. Starring Jack Lemmon, Natalie Wood, and Tony Curtis this is a riot of a film from start to finish – which is saying something since it clocks in at an impressive 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Which naturally Kate has something to say about. And after drinking a few Pace Cars, she's letting it fly! Pour yourself one and hit play — Brewvies is back!
The Pace Car
INGREDIENTS:
- 1½ oz. Hard Truth Indiana Rye Whiskey
- 1 oz. Orange liqueur
- ¾ oz. Fresh lemon juice
- Orange twist, to garnish
- Sugar
CRAFT:
- Rim coupe glass with sugar, and set aside.
- Add rye, orange liqueur, and lemon juice to ice -filled bar shaker.
- Cover, and shake until well chilled, then double strain into prepared coupe glass.
- Twist orange peel overd rink, then drop into garnish, and serve

Co-starring Jack Lemon and the inimitable Marilyn Monroe, this screwball comedy from Billy Wilder is an iconic piece of film history that Kate and Blake both deeply love. So, pour yourself a Manhattan and hit play — Brewvies is back!
Manhattan’s:
What you need
- Whiskey (rye, bourbon or blended)
- Sweet red vermouth
- A few drops of angostura bitters
- Cocktail glass (or just use a wine glass if you don’t have one)
- Maraschino cherry for garnish
Pour 1 1/3 oz / 4 cl whiskey, 2/3 oz / 2 cl sweet red vermouth and 4 to 5 drops of angostura bitters into a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir vigorously with a spoon. Strain into your previously chilled cocktail glass, garnish and enjoy.

Our 20th episode and 2nd of the Tony Curtis run, this EPIC (in length) film is one of Curtis’ more iconic roles despite how little he’s actually in the film. But, even with the sparse material he gives a HELL of a performance alongside Kirk Douglas in this Stanley Kubrick piece. The dailies are in and we’re watching The Defiant Ones! Our 19th episode and last of the Sidney Poitier run. We cross over to a Tony Curtis run with this groundbreaking film that nabbed both stars' academy award nominations. Directed by future-friend of Poitier’s, Stanley Kramer (who also directed Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner), this film marked a new journey for Poitier and Curtis on the screen as they sought to reimagine what a story could do. Manhunt
2 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey
4 dashes lemon juice
1 tsp granulated sugar
1 splash sparkling water
1 maraschino cherry
Dissolve the sugar in lemon juice and water at the bottom of a Boston shaker. Add the whiskey, and fill halfway with ice. Stir to combine and chill, then pour into a tumbler. Garnish with a cherry.

The dailies are in and we’re watching Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner! Our 17th episode and 2nd in the Sidney Poitier run! The story of a San Francisco couple whose attitudes are challenged when their daughter introduces them to her African-American fiancé.
Co-starring Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, and Katherine Houghton, this isa beautiful film and an episode for the books. So, pour yourself a Sherry Cobbler and hit play — Brewvies is back!
Sherry Cobbler
3 ½ oz Sherry
½ oz simple syrup
2 orange slices
2 lemon slices
Cranberries for garnish
Combine simple syrup and one slice each of orange and lemon in the bottom of a shaker. Muddle oranges, then add sherry and ice. Shake well, until chilled. Strain into a Collins glass filled with crushed ice, then garnish with a fresh orange slice, lemon slice and fresh cranberries.

With this we start our Sidney Poitier Run, a legend of the screen and director of this film! Also starring Richard Pryor, we get to see Wilder and Pryor switch roles in this one, with Pryor being the straight man to Wilder’s crazy. Chocolate Martini Ingredients* 4 oz Baileys Irish Cream * 4 oz Chocolate Liqueur * 8 oz Vodka * 3 tbsp chocolate syrup or ganache
Instructions* Drizzle chocolate syrup inside the martini glasses then add chocolate syrup to a shallow plate and coat the rims of the glasses. * Combine Baileys, chocolate liqueur, and vodka in a cocktail shaker filled with about a cup of Ice. Shake until thoroughly chilled. * Strain drink into prepared glasses. You may garnish with shaved chocolate to enjoy as is.

Our 12th episode and 3rd in our Mel Brook’s run, this love letter to Alfred Hitchcock is the wild story of a psychiatrist with intense acrophobia (fear of heights) who goes to work for a mental institution run by doctors who appear to be crazier than their patients. And the have secrets that they are willing to commit murder to keep.
Written, Directed, and Starring the legend himself, Brooks and his usual suspects (Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman, and Cloris Leacham) are in their typical, hysterical form. So, pour yourself a Cable Car and hit play — Brewvies is back!

Did you hear that? It's a new episode of Brewvies! We're tackling The Conversation in our third entry into the Gene Hackman run. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and co-starring one of Blake's favorite actors of all time, John Cazale, this is easily one of Hackman's most critically lauded films. Directed by William Friedkin and co-starring Roy Scheider, this film contains one of the most iconic chase sequences of all time and marks a change in trajectory for Hackman's career. It's November but the spirits are still lurking! As spooky season ends, we're talking about the perfect blend between horror and the holidays - Black Christmas (1974). Starring Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder, this film follows a group of sorority girls who are stalked by a stranger during their Christmas break. If you're not ready to let go of Halloween but itching to drink some egg nog, pour yourself a mug and check behind all your doors — there's someone watching and it's not Santa Claus.
GET OUT! Wait...no don't! Stay and listen! It's our second episode in the Margot Kidder run and we're talking about The Amityville Horror (1979). Heralded as one of the scariest movies ever, does it hold up? Starring Margot Kidder and James Brolin, this is one you definitely don't want to miss. Crack open something cold and grab a friend — you don't want to go in alone.
Our FINAL movie in the Brian De Palma run and FIRST of the Margot Kidder run, we're watching Sisters (1972). Starring Margot Kidder (times two) and Jennifer Salt, this is a twisty murder mystery that leaves you guessing at every turn. We're drinking Long Island Iced teas in honor of the film's location. Our third movie in the Brian De Palma run — his answer to the 1966 Antonioni film Blow Up — it's Blow Out! Starring John Travolta, Nancy Allen, and John Lithgow, Blow Out is about a movie sound recordist who accidentally records the evidence that proves that a car accident was actually murder and consequently finds himself in danger. One of Blake's favorites and a first watch for Kate, it's time to crack open a cold one and...ROLL SOUND!
Our second movie in our Brian De Palma run — the horror classic, Carrie! Starring Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, Nancy Allen, and Amy Irving, this is a favorite of Kate's and a first full watch for Blake. Drinking Bloody Marys and Allagash White beer, we're talking everything from the incredible costumes, the camp of it all and why Blake isn't a "camp-y" man. Crack open a cold one and fix your tiara - it's time to announce the homecoming queen!
