Who remembers the BJ and Bill Show all those years on WOLZ. The boys had so much success on FM radio for so long and everyone has a Podcast, why not them too. Many have told them how much they miss the show. We’ll now they are back. Only this time it’s BJ and Bill The Podcast. This is the podcast about nothing. Just two guys talking about the good ol’ days, life and what’s it’s like getting older.
If you're a fan of just about any football team from the great state of Florida, you had a bad weekend this past week... and BJ and Bill spend some time comiserating on that topic on this weeks' show. Florida State, University of Florida, University of Miami... all lost. Tampa Bay Bucs, Jacksonville Jags, both lost (Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football).
Other stuff this week... suggestions for Bill on ways he can feed his "wanderlust." BJ thinking about testing the waters of products like THC-laced "gummies." Yes, he checked with his medical team, and they've given him the go-ahead. Can't wait to hear how that works out!

Football, NASCAR and time travel... all in a week's work for the BJ and Bill podcast.
Yes, there's the usual talk of football and other sports, but - and here's where the time-travel comes in - the boys are recording this podcast before an important Monday Night Football game featuring their Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so by the time you hear this podcast, the game will be long over.
More importantly, for some, is another bit of time travel. Election Day in the United States happens in that slice of time between when the show is recorded, and when it's released. So we hope your person (and your important issues) were all winners!

Oooh... Spooky coincidence! This week's show - which comes out the week of Halloween - is number one hundred THIRTEEN. OK, maybe not so spooky, but fun. This week:
Speaking of scary, BJ goes into great detail about one of his medical proceedures. Where needles go, drugs and drug testing, all that. Fun? Maybe not. Scary? A little.
This week's show also comes close to Election Day in the US. In Florida, where the boys both live, there's an interesting ballot issue up for a vote on the legal ways marijuana can be grown, processed and sold to the public. Not surprisingly, that leads to quite the "weedy" discussion.

Between storms, sports and more, it's been a busy past week for the boys, and this episode of the podcast speeds right thru with lots to talk aboiut and comment on.
First football: BJ says he's keeping his promise, and buying the expensive but oh-so-cool Baker Mayfield / Tampa Bay Bucaneers jersey. We're waiting photographic evidence to make sure he's telling the truth. Stay tuned for that.

As yet another hurricane approaches Florida (the second one is an many weeks!), BJ and Bill talk about storm prep and lots more. Both BJ and Bill still have plenty of friends and family in the areas that have been hard-hit by this year's crazy weather... All up and down the Southwest Florida coast. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all in need.
Also this week, the latest chapter in BJ's medical dramas, and the latest chapter in Bill's love life (or lack thereof). BJ is up for a proceedure that has him drinking large quantities of white chalky liquid - you probably know what we're talking about. Not fun.
As for Bill, BJ had put out an idea for a "Hallmark Movie" kind of scene when Bill visited a former lady-friend...and what might happen during the reunion. Bill is happy to report that nothing happened... Just like he planned.

Bad week for fans of the Tampa Bay Bucs...and the boys are feelin' it on the show this week. BJ's little self-wager to buy a new Bucs jersey is out the window, and Bill is not too happy about the Cleveland Browns showing, either. Ah well, another week in sports.
Also this week, BJ asks Bill a "techie" question about website and app passwords. Quite the discussion over how to create and (most importantly) remember passwords! Not the easiest thing for a couple of old guys with less-than-perfect memories.

The NFL season is off and running (college football, too), so the boys spend a bit of time talking football, and their favorite teams. Of course BJ has to put in a good word for NASCAR Racing, even though he's not a fan of their "playoff" system. How does that even work with racing, anyway?
There's some talk of the "portal" system, where players in college football can move around to different teams, just like being traded in the NFL, except this is up to the player, and not the team. Makes BJ and Bill wish for a their own personal "portals" to move around the world... Star Trek "transporter," anyone?

The new NFL season is off and running (and kicking, and passing) and the boys have plenty to talk about. Podcat fav team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers started with a good win, and that's got BJ making a little wager with himself. If the Bucs - with quarterback Baker Mayfield at the helm - can win two more in a row, he'll buy himself an expense, official NFL jerseys, with Mayfield's name on the back. Will it happen? What a show! Yes, we always say that, but this episode really does have something important, funny, and powerful to say... but you'll have to wait for the second half of the program for it! (And that, folks, is what they call a "tease" in show business...)
First half: Two old men complaining about the weather. Yes, it sounds like a TV commercial (people turning into their parents). There's a lot of that talk, for sure. Weather, high-tech cars, traffic, going to the beach, all of it.
Second half: BJ talks about his philosophy of life, and it's both funny as helll and powerful as Sunday sermon (delivered by your favorite pastor, of course). BJ has faced a few health "challneges" in life, and today, he and Bill talk about how to (as the cliche says) "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." It's a great stuff, and we're not just saying that because we're the guys on the show.

Lots going on this week! The Olympics ended, the NFL football season began! As for the Olympics, did you watch very much? The boys talk aboiut the impressive wins for the USA Men's and Woman's basketball teams.
As for the NFL, yes, we know it's just "preseason" ... but c'mon, it's still football and that's a very big deal, indeed. Looking forward to the upcoming season, as always.

Lots of weather-related talk on the show this week. As this show was being recorded, a hurricane was blowing along the northwest Florida coast, near the area called the Big Bend. That made for stormy conditions for both the boys - but especially for Bill, in Gainesville, closer to the stormy action.
Of course there's always - hopefully - a story of interest and / or fun in everything, and this experience is not exception. Tune in to hear the boys "horror stories" of the "Attack of the Tree Frogs" during the stormy night. Don't know what that means? Like we said, better tune in and find out.

On the show this week, lots of "car talk." Yes, that's an old NPR program from years gone by, but it totally fits for this show. BJ had the experience of test-driving his first fully electric car, and it was quite an exciting and eye-opening day.
Now of course he's hooked on this new car, even though it's a bit - shall we say - over-budget. And to make things even more interesting...there's a full-on Disney "Platinum" Edition of this car, so you know it's going to cost some big money. Will he get it? Stay tuned.

This week - a little catching up on sports, including big congrats to the Florida Panthers for pulling off an exciting Game 7 win in the Stanley Cup Finals. Also, big smiles all around for the Florida Everblades pulling off back-to-back-to-back Championship wins in their Kelly Cup Finals. Nice!
BJ is thinking - nothing serious at this point - about plugging in to the electric vehicle (EV) trend. That leads to quite the discussion on having an electric car as a family's "everyday driver." Would you want an electric car? Do you already own one? How's that going for you? For Bill, who just got back from a week in the mountains of northern Georgia, it's not really an option. But (as they say) different strokes for different folks.
There's also a nice rememberance of Jimmy Nelson, a comedian, ventriloquist and 1960's TV star who was a big friend to the old BJ and Bill radio show. Nice memories of a great man, his equally wonderful wife of many years, and their impact on SW Florida.

This week, Bill is "on location" at a secret mountain hideaway (sounds like a song!) in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. Not so secret, now that we've told you, right?
Anyway, to get there, Bill had to drive up I-75 through Georgia, which meant a stop at the Buc-ee's in Warner Robbins (of course!). There are pictures to prove it this time, and Bill tells the story of a brisket sandwich for lunch and a bag of "Beaver Nuggets" for snacks. To say yummy! to both is an understatement. You'll have to listen for all the tasty details.
Speaking of food (which the boys do a lot, don't they?) BJ talks about plans to visit SW Florida this week. Specifically, his son and grandkids. BJ was hoping to visit an iconic restaurant, located on Sanibel Island, but it seems that particular business has not yet re-opened after Hurricane Ian badly tore up the place.

This week, some memories fror OG Fort Myers... Back when a certain beachfront resort was the "in" place to go for weekend getaways and parties. How it survived the big hurricane last year (it did!) and how it's been rebuilt, restored and re-opened for business.
That led BJ on a rabbit-hole run through some of his favorite stories of being on the road, back when he was doing standup comedy. Some of the nice - and not-so-nice hotels and motels he stayed in while on the road. Including one really scary story!
Other quick bites: Congrats to the Florida Everblades hockey team (East Coast League) for their amazing three-peat of winning their ECL Championship! And a tip 'o the hat to Dick Van Dyke for winning a Daytime Emmy award at the young age of 98! Amazing!

This week - an unexpected and fun phone call visit from "The Boss." For those that don't know, that's BJ's son Gentry, who runs the podcast network that this - and many other - fine podcasts appear on the interwebs. A few good father and son stories, and some other catching up in the podcast world.
Also, the very important discussion of exactly how to best time our visit to your local Wal-Mart. Yes, it's important! For BJ, it's all about avoiding the tourist traffic with a store that's very close to Disney World. For Bill, it's all about avoiding the college-student traffic, with his store very near the University of Florida campus.
As always, the boys catch up on sports, and some interesting stories that "almost" happened in auto racing (one of BJ's favorites). That, plus the usual fun and games of the show.

Now he's aiming to live to be 75...but we know he's gonna be around for a lot longer than that! So of course the talk of living to "advanced" age led to more conversation about getting old, doctor visits, and upchucking in the car. BJ stuns Bill with some football news: The Jacksonville Jaguars moving to Orlando? Well, turns out, no. But if the Jags do some major renovations (as planned) on the stadium in Jax, they're gonna need somewhere else to play during contruction. Turns out they're considering Camping World Stadium in Orlando... OR... the Florida Gators Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainvesville. NOW Bill was excited!

This week, the boys talk about BJ's latest doc appointment - so what else is new, right? But it does lead to a good discussion of how we either support ourselves - or hurt our health - with the food we eat (or dont' eat, of course).
BJ continues to work on keeping his health in good condition, and Bill continues to work on losing a few pounds (OK, more than a few!), and there are good stories all around.
The other big question of the week: How far would you go to see Taylor Swift in concert? Shes currently playing in Paris (as of this podcast date), and news is that lots of Americans are flying to France to see the show there. Seems it's actually cheaper to get tickets in Europe! Swifties, get your passports ready.

What a fun show! Yes, we say that a lot, but this one turned into something special. We hope and trust you'll agree.
A bit of sports catch-up first, as always. BJ's Warriors have been out of the NBA Playoffs for some time (he's bummed), and Bill's Cavaliers beat the Orlando Magic in seven exciting first-round games (he's thrilled). Some NBA, some Kentucky Derby as well...
Which led to a lot of BJ and Bill history (separately, in their very early radio-career days). Talking about back-woods and small-town KY radio for both of them.
Then, the sad news: BJ was unable to get to talk to Peter Noone when the former Herman's Hermits star appeared live at Epcot Center / Disney World last week. As you know, the boys have been pretty much stalking Noone (not, we hope, in a creepy way) to try to get him on the podcast. Still, no luck. But, it's some funny stuff from BJ's afternoon at the show.
Keep an ear out for a new podcast called "Gut Punched," It's not about fighting at all. It's about how friends and family members deal with the newfound knowledge of a loved one being diagnosed with dementia and / or Alzhiemers'. BJ in the Radio Hall of Fame? Well, honestly, no... but the boys spend some time this week talking about the "what might have beens" in their careers, so that makes for some jokes. Other funnyy stuff... how a dad (BJ) gets a little fatherly revenge on his kids with the stories of their names. For BJ, it's one musical instrument, one car. Don't know what that means? Better tune in to find out.
Also, BJ's ongoing quest to "try" to talk to music star Peter Noone. If you've been following the show (of course you have, right?!), you know Noone was a guest on the BJ and Bill Show many, many years ago. The boys have tried to contact him a few times to (hopefully) have him on the podcast, but they've been running into brick walls... Noone's agent, etc. Now BJ is seeing Noone perform live at Epcot Center / Disney World. What's going to happen? Stay tuned.

Remember back in the day… That TV commercial for a brand of cassette tape (remember those!?)… “Is it live or is it Memorex?” (Pretty sure that was the brand.) This week, BJ has a brand-new voice recording, high-tech toy in his home studio, and we get to play the “Is it live?” game all over again. Sounds weird, but you’ll just have to tune in to find out more.
Also this week, the boys wonder out loud if they’ll ever hear from their all-time favorite in-studio radio guest, Peter Noone. On past shows they’ve talked about reaching out to the former front man of the band Herman’s Hermits.. But there’s been no luck in contacting him.
Well, turns out Noone is going to be performing at Disney World (Epcot Center) in Orlando soon, and BJ is thinking hard about crashing the party, to see if he can get some face time with Noone. Hopefully, our boy doesn’t get himself thrown out of the park, scooter and all. Stay tuned!

For no particular reason, BJ and Bill thought 24 was a good number of episodes for a "season" of podcasts. Is there even such as thing as seasons in podcasts? We don't know, but that's not stopping us from starting Season Two right here, right now at Episode 25. Does it matter? Not really... but hey, it's our podcast, and we'll do what we want.
