A 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Hockey Case went unpaid for on Heritage Auctions! This case is likely to have 20+ Wanye Gretzky rookie cards, but the winner never completed the transaction. Also, the National announced that they will be adding 75 tables to their 2025 show in Rosemont, IL, and that the tables will be given to new dealers currently on their waiting list!
PSA is on pace to grade between 15 and 16 million cards this year. Last year PSA graded 13 million cards so what does this mean for the hobby going forward? Can all of these PSA slabs sustain value in the future? Also John and I discuss the impact breakers have on the hobby. Are breakers starting to corner the wax market? Is it worth ripping wax product or should you just join a break?
The NHL season is officially on its way, and Upper Deck is releasing a ton of new sets! Sets such as O-Pee-Chee Platinum and Series 1, and future sets like SP Authentic and Skybox Metal can be great buys with major upside. Of course Connor Bedard is still a top pull with gold 1/1's to hit, but there are other rookies like Lane Hutson who's hitting some major amounts on eBay!
Topps Mercury cards have already been hitting the eBay market! We are seeing cards sell for thousands of dollars, but is this FOMO? Will these cards remain this valuable over the next few years? Some big hobby news was announced the other day. Connor Bedard signed an exclusive deal with Fanatics to be the sole distributor of his signed memorabilia! Also Topps is set to release a box dedicated to Shohei Ohtani's 50/50 season! This box will contain chrome parallels, SP's, chrome autos, relic autos, and of course 1/1 cards.
We at Jeli love collecting baseball cards, but we understand that other hobbyists might not enjoy baseball collecting as much. We wanted to dedicate an episode that is both enjoyable and knowledgeable when collecting baseball cards. We give you our strategies when researching prospects, which refractors we focus on, and when we believe the best time to sell the card.
Topps is releasing a new set called Topps Mercury which will be dedicated to only Victor Wembanyama. It will be a high end set for top collectors in the hobby. Also the debate continues on whether or not the 84-85 Star Michael Jordan card is his true rookie card. It has always been the 86 Fleer card, but now the Star Jordan card has surpassed his 86 Fleer in highest sold price!

As we enter the summer months of baseball, we start to see which prospects are possibly ranked too low. Prospects like Lazaro Montes, Starlyn Caba, and Jacob Wilson are having terrific starts to the season. However, their rankings and card markets don’t reflect their current play. Can we see these markets increase as they rise through the rankings?
Can you buy rare modern Pokémon cards today, with low pop counts (population reports from grading companies), and profit from them in the future? John thinks you can, but is it too risky of an investment? Do you have the patience to wait 20 years for these cards to accrue value over time?
When you search for sports cards to invest in, do you typically buy into higher markets or lower markets? Lower markets might seem like the less risky investment, but how much value can be made? We have seen modern players like Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Luka Doncic sell for over $1,000,000, but Mike Trout was the only modern baseball player to ever surpass that amount. Factors like hype, player success, team success, and even FOMO can all play a major role in whether or not a players prices will go up or down. However, is there one factor that outweighs the rest? This episode is all about the new MLB Top 100 Prospect List! This list is a great research tool when looking for players to collect and invest in. John and I go over some of the current markets for both players on the list and players who didn’t make the cut. Don’t be blinded only by the top prospects though! We were lucky to have comic book collector Komikz98 join us for this episode, and she’d his knowledge of all things comics! Comics are fun to read, but can also make you money in the future. You might not make that instant profit like you can with sports cards, but collecting the right issues can benefit you greatly in the long run. Patience is key here!

We used our own examples when we formed Jeli Cards that we thought would be important key topics. The hobby can be overwhelming at times especially because there’s money to be made in just about every sport. However, finding your niche is the most important task you need to accomplish first! What is it that you want to collect? If you try to invest in every sport out there, you may find yourself overwhelmed by the vast amount of cards that just aren’t valuable. We highly suggest you pick a sport and focus solely on that until you gain enough of a profit to venture out. Mistakes will happen which we have plenty to discuss, but always remember it’s the thrill of collecting that kept this hobby alive!
Sports card breaks and TCG breaks have taken the card hobby to a level it’s never been before! Collecting and investing into cards has changed because you no longer have to invest into wax in hopes of pulling a specific player or team. Card breaks give hobbyists the opportunity to invest their money a little bit more wisely without breaking the bank for some of these expensive hobby boxes. Breaks are both entertaining and a great way to meet new hobbyists! There’s no right or wrong answer in which is the better investment: wax or breaks? It all depends on the route you want to take!

John and I are both avid collectors, and a show about collecting definitely didn’t help our desire to buy more cards! This episode John and I discussed the show and what this series might do for the collectibles hobby in the future. Goldin Auctions is arguably the best consignment based company in the hobby industry, and this series highlights why! From game used jerseys to rare sports cards, Goldin invites us into their world. Goldin Auctions has given hobbyists the chance at life changing money, which ultimately will help keep this hobby alive!
John and I have differing opinions on this topic which made for a great discussion! We both see the benefits from either choice you make as long as you’re profiting from the product or card. However, it truly is the million dollar question you have to ask yourself. Quick flips can be a great way to make consistent profit while you continue to grow your business and/or personal collection. Career holds, however, have the potential to give you the biggest return you will ever see on that card! If you have the patience and trust in the player you’re investing in, holding a players card until they become a star can be very beneficial. Either way there’s really no right or wrong answer to this question, you just have to decide what’s more important to you!
Social media can be a great distraction from the real world, and it has played a major role in the Card Hobby! The hobby may not be where it’s at today if it wasn’t for businesses and influencers promoting cards and their markets through informative and creative content. Social Media stars like Card Collector 2 and Leonhart have inspired other hobbyists to chase their dreams within this hobby. They are allowing hobbyists like ourselves to be able to build our Jeli Cards name, and hopefully one day we can do the same for new collectors! This episode John and I discuss the various selling platforms you could use to list and sell your card collection and/or card investments. We at Jeli Cards primarily use eBay to sell our cards, but we have also used platforms like WhatNot, Instagram, Goldin Auctions, and we have even sold cards at card shows both as a vendor and customer. Each platform has its own advantages, but you need to find the one that best fits you and your hobby goals!

What a whirlwind of an off-season so far in the NFL! The Chicago Bears have been already making big moves especially trading their #1 draft pick and acquiring DJ Moore from the Panthers. Aaron Rodgers resurfaced from the “Darkness” and has now publicly stated he wants to play for the New York Jets. The Baltimore Ravens gave Lamar Jackson the non-exclusive tag so maybe we will see him on a brand new team this coming season! It would have been difficult for John and I to discuss every move so far, but we made sure to give our opinions on the biggest headlines in the NFL. We also debate which quarterback in this years offseason could potentially be the best “investment” for the 2023 season!
If you enjoy baseball as much as we do, and want to collect more baseball cards, prospecting is a great way to do that! The MLB has a top 100 list of prospects, and that list is a great way for you as a collector to do your research on the future stars of baseball. However, don’t fall victim to only focusing on the top players. If you take the time to throughly look through that list, you can find those “diamond in the rough” players! John and I go over our top prospects for this coming season, and break down their stats so far in the minors. We also inform you of their current card markets and show you the major difference between a player in the top 10 vs a player in the 70s and higher.
If you are a collector of Topps products, they had their 2023 industry conference so John and I discuss some of the major takeaways from that. Topps will not be releasing certain sets this year such as Opening Day and Topps Gold Label, but they are bringing back Big League Baseball! Tom Brady will also have his first ever Topps card printed this year and that may include autos as well! John and I also give you our do’s and dont’s of the hobby. We wanted to highlight some key points that our group has done which has helped continue to grow Jeli Cards.

Happy Super Bowl week! This episode John and I discuss the upcoming matchup between the Chiefs and the Eagles. We give our predictions for the game and who we think will take home the win!
