Hello friends,
Welcome to the Yoga and Yum podcast! This week, I unveil the final tool in my toolbox - and it's a BIGGIE. Ready! Let's go.
When's the last time you gave your brain a break? No, we can't stop the brain from thinking - that's what it does after all. However we CAN train it to be more mindful and get less carried away with our ever spinning thoughts. This episode explores the meaning of the second yoga sutra, "Yoga is the cessation of the mind's fluctuations" and how we can apply it to life in today's time. Getting stronger in this area of my life has truly helped me to get more control over my general anxiety.
Welcome beautiful beings!
This is the 5th tool in my anti-anxiety toolbox and the one that I had the hardest time wrapping my head around.
Hello! This is part 4 of my Anti-Anxiety Toolbox. This is where I share strategies and tools that I use on a regular basis to help me regulate my anxiety. I am not a medical professional. I am a certified health and wellness coach and registered yoga guide AND a person who lives with anxiety. Here I share things that work for me. My hope is that you will find a strategy that resonates with you.
If you are struggling, please seek the help of a licensed professional. There are so many wonderful therapists out there who are ready to assist.

Welcome to episode 11! In this episode I am taking a break in the regularly scheduled show to invite you to visit or revisit some of the practices that I have shared with you on this podcast. Regular practice makes for powerful transformation!
When is the last time that you have listened to your body? Our bodies are sending us messages all of the time. However our lives can be so busy that we often miss them unless something is hurting or very uncomfortable.
In this episode I offer a practice in radical self care. It's called a body awareness meditation, also referred to as a body scan. Doing body scans on a regular basis allows us the opportunity to "hear" what our bodies want us to know, even before discomfort sets in. We can listen and then respond.
So find a comfy place to sit, stand or lie down and let's begin!

**So, I have a question for all of you… what’s your information diet like and how’s it treating you? I know you may be thinking, “What on earth is an information diet?”
An information diet consists of the information that you consume on a regular basis. Things like the news, social media, emails, texts, video games, podcasts, television shows, movies or books. What we consume in the form of information can either benefit us health wise or NOT. Our nervous systems and mental health can be directly affected by our information diet - both positively and negatively. And HOW it affects us is purely individual.
In this episode, I share my experience and share some interesting insights on this topic.
If you would like more support or ideas on breathing exercises and other yoga practices that stimulate the rest, digest and chill within in you, consider joining my**

This is part 2 of the mindful eating series. In this episode we get "sciency". We talk about the science of the breath and how it affects us before, during and after a meal and the science of tastebuds.
In today’s episode, we will explore the practice of mindful eating. Years ago I used to conduct workshops called, How to Eat Half A Cookie. This episode will be a condensed version of the process that I covered in that workshop.
Mindful eating helps us to become "one" with our food, experience immense flavor and can even soothe our nervous systems. This is part one of a two-part series on mindful eating. This week is the "practice" portion. Next week we will explore the science behind the success.
Breathing exercises (also called pranayama in yoga) can help soothe us and even strengthen the “rest and digest” side of our nervous systems. It is believed that the more we practice mindful breathing, the more adept we become at recovering from a stress event. This means that it can be much easier for us to move from fight, flee or freeze into rest and digest. It’s like taking the rest and digest side of our nervous systems to the gym - strengthening our “calm” muscles.
This episode, let's take a few mindful breaths together and notice how we feel afterwards.
