28 Days, 6 Hours, 42 Minutes, 12 Seconds. That is when this pod will end. Nah not really. But it's enough time for you to enjoy our chat through one of the Myspace era's favourite films. Time travel, alternative dimensions, bunny ghosts, people from Independence Day, an incredible 80's soundtrack, the list goes on for this mysterious and captivating movie. Sneakin' in at the buzzer for this one. A delayed episode due to a bit of the winter sneezy blues but couldn't miss talking about some of the best movies to come out in 2024. This week's round up includes the Citizen Kane of bisexual tennis love mindgame movies with Luca Guadagnino's Challengers, the latest from Alex Garland with the intense and gritty Civil War, and Richard Linklater's dark comedy Hit Man. Might also talk about Bananaman for some reason.

The pod watched Furiosa over the last weekend and hopped on mic immediately afterwards to share their initial thoughts. The pod is back for the second movie round up for May 2024. OK so here's the deal, I've seen Spiderman 3 (Tobey G) maybe 3 - 15 times. I used to watch Blade pretty religiously and for some that's about as Marvel as it gets. But the guys wanted to talk Marvel Cinematic Universe and for that they needed some help. While the movies can be divisive there's no doubting the impact the MCU has had on the movie landscape the last ten plus years and the success of how some of our favourite comic book characters and stories have been realised on film. Joining the pod to discuss Marvel Movies is our special guest and good friend Angus so don't miss this one. And yes Tobey McGuire will always be my Spiderman fight me.

You know those certain kinds of sci fi movies where space isn't quite so clean and pristine? Where the characters just have regular kinda jobs and aren't all space doctors or something? Well this week the guys continue on Adam Sandler a little bit because he has a new Netflix movie that fits one of their most enjoyed sub genres of sci fi movies. The pod takes a look at the new movie Spaceman and runs down a list of other similar films that include regular old jobs in space and a dire need for hand sanitizer.
With the recent release of Adam Sandler's latest Netflix movie Spaceman the guys eat some pieces of sh*t for breakfast and take a look at his career and movies as a whole to break down their favourites and examine their complicated relationship with the holy sandman.
The 80's episodes return as the guys catch up to discuss fantasy movies. They talk about what they think makes a good fantasy movie, the low budget Conan rip offs, Jim Henson and much more. Was Tom Cruise's performance in Legend inspiration for a controversial Tropic Thunder character? Probably.
Well, we did it. We watched every movie of 2023. Not really but we did catch up to discuss our favourites of the year. There's a good bit of diversity of titles on this one, Tristan probably would've just been happy if there were 10 more Seth Rogen related movies about turtles but you can't win them all. What will be the guys number 1? Fast X or Saltburn???
While the pod catches up on some of the highly acclaimed movies of 2023 before the upcoming best of there's a little bit of room to squeeze in a round up. It can't all be sad swedish dramas can it? The movies discussed on this episode are Flora And Son (2023), Saltburn (2023), Priscilla (2023), Jawbreaker (1999), Terror in A Texas Town (1958) and Dream Scenario (2023).
This week on the pod the guys delve into two high school clique classics. First up is Clueless (1995), where they talk about Cher and her satisfying character arc, background plastic surgery and the incredible fashion of the movie. Then it's straight through the stop sign and onto Mean Girls (2004) where Tristan may have a few things to put in the burn book. There's much to discuss with both movies so jump on in before revisiting these favourites.
This week the pod makes its official return from the holiday break to pick two worthwhile documentaries. First up is All This Mayhem from 2014 - the insane true story of the Pappas brothers who started on a vert ramp in Prahran in the late 1980's and would eventually become amongst the top ranked skateboarders in the world. Then they move on to 1997's Hands on Hard Body to see who can keep their hand on a pickup truck the longest in a small country town in Texas. Both films come highly recommended and the guys are going to spoil a little bit on each of them so definitely try to check these out before chucking on the episode.
Bonus Chrissy pod! Tristan and Jimmy had a quick catch up to talk a bit about Jimmy's Japan holiday, unconventional Christmas movies and catching up on the contenders for the end of year best of. Couldn't end the year before saying a quick hello and giving the audience something to listen to over the break. Harry Dean Stanton is one of the actors of all time. And some will say his best movies were in the 80's so this week on the pod we have selected two extremely appropriate films. We talk about the intensely enjoyable mash of genre on Repo Man (1984) before shifting into serious Stanton mode for the cult hit Paris Texas (1984). Both of these movies come highly recommended so check them out if you have the means, it will make the podcast at least 30% more enjoyable.
This week on the pod the guys are delving into their favourite 1980's sci fi movies. I know what you're thinking - why didn't the pod just do a full length episode on the 1988 masterpiece of knock off cinema Mac and Me? That's a great question!

This week on the podcast the guys are covering the North Korean Kaiju film Pulgasari (1985) and it's connection to the real life abduction of South Korean director Shin Sang-ok and his wife Choi Eun-hee by North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il between 1978 and 1986. An interesting yet sad story capped off by one of the strangest and most North Korean-ish monster movies to be put to celluloid. The guys touch on Kim Jong Il's history as a cine-file and some of his reported favourite films. The Jack Nicholson / Michelle Pfeiffer werewolf movie was strangely not mentioned..

It's finally here! The guys honour the One True God himself with a top ten. You never really know how difficult it is to try and rank these movies, there's so many memorable performances. We've promised this one for a while so thanks to everyone for bearing with us. More actor top tens to come in the future as this was a lot of fun to do.
Ah little lad, you're starin' at my fingers? Would you like me to tell you the story of old left pod right pod - the story of Night of the Hunter and Cape Fear? This week the guys have queued up a Robert Mitchum double. This episode they give their thoughts on the strange yet beloved cult classic Night of the Hunter from 1955 and the original Cape Fear from 1962. In each movie Robert Mitchum plays an absolute psychopath with varying degrees of quality outfits and unsociable behavior but is never the less as creepy and charming as it gets. If you haven't yet seen either of these movies we sincerely hope you check them out, you won't be disappointed (or raked in the face)!

On the previous episode we promised a Nic Cage top ten up next, but we're gonna withhold that a little bit for now, and change up the formula a little. From here we're going to include more Round Ups and Bonus episodes that break off from the double feature format. So that means today's the day for Round up Three! The movies mentioned on this episode are The Platform (2019) , Dune (1984), Beau is Afraid (2023), Exists (2011), Resurrection (2022), The Misfits (1961), Over the Edge (1979), Little Man Tate (1991) and The Nightingale (2018). This week on the pod Jimmy wanted to discuss some movies that got them a little bit misty eyed, so they cued up the notorious tear jerker Studio Ghibli classic The Grave of the Fireflies. They discuss the qualities of the film that make it so enjoyable despite its heavy theme and reputation for being one of the saddest movies ever. Then they move onto 2021's Pig, which is kind of like John Wick but with a truffle pig instead of a dog. Or is it? Turns out - not at all! One of the things discussed is the initial impression this movie made and how it subverts the audience's expectation in revealing itself as a story about grief and loss. It's also one of Tristan's favourite movies ever. Tear Trigger warning: the guys reference the moment in Forrest Gump where he talks to Jenny's grave. He's so smarht Jennay! :'(
To celebrate the recent Criterion release of Thelma and Louise this week on the pod the guys pair this awesome movie with another Geena Davis flick, A League of Their Own. They discuss some fun and serious things happening behind the scenes of both titles as well as the larger themes both of these influential movies touch on. Geena Davis' recent book about her life and acting titled Dying of Politeness also gets a mention or two. If you haven't yet seen either of these seminal 90's bangers get on it ASAP. Just don't trust the original trailers to give you a good idea of these movies...
Have you ever thought to yourself what it would be like if Sylvester Stallone starred in a juiced up 80's family drama that also has truck work-outs and competitive arm wrestling? Well, think no more! On this episode of the podcast the guys try to pin down what is about this movie that they find legitimately enjoyable. If it's just a funny plot line and 80's nostalgia, why can't I stop watching it? They wrap up the obscure sports by looking at the universally loved Cool Runnings from 1992, chatting about why they love it and why it may not be made the same way today.

This week the guys delve into their shared love of video games and documentaries with 2007's The King of Kong. How interesting could a documentary be about two middle aged dudes competing for the classic arcade Donkey Kong world record?? The rabbit hole is deeper than an opera note on this one. This episode goes all in on the events of the film and a timeline of events revolving around the two main characters and the ongoing Donkey Kong score controversy. If you haven't seen it already we highly recommend watching the film before jumping into this episode, and if you have seen it you might want to give it a re-watch after the podcast.

On this episode the guys open some beers and talk Mortal Kombat - the games and the films from 1995 and 2021. Usually Scorpion is my guy with that cool hook grab move but Jimmy has been teaching us the ways of Sub Zero. Finally I can stop spamming that jump attack and leg sweep. There's a lot of fun to be had with these movies. The pod talks about their history with the franchise and general love of the more campy and earnest 1995 film and it's amazing soundtrack before hopping to the 2021 version to discuss how they felt it handled the material. Will we see more Mortal Kombat movies in the future? Surely they'll deliver on that tournament right? Right???
Following up from misfit kids sports, for this Tristan pick the guys are hanging out to talk about their mutual love of the Karate Kid. They kinda agree with Sean Penn that Ralph Macchio may be the greatest actor of his time and mentally marinade on all this modern discourse around Johnny being the victim of Part 1 (spoiler alert - he definitely isn't). Part 2 gets a breakdown as well with Daniel and Miyagi making the trip to Okinawa, where Daniel learns how to dodge the dangerous spiky wood-on-a-rope thing. This episode is a celebration of The Karate Kid Part 1 and 2, and it may also be a Peter Cetera sing-along? Don't forget your JC Penny $3.98 belt.
Don't worry! Karate Kid is on the way, but first the guys interrupt regular scheduling for a bonus round up episode of the movies they've been watching lately. They catch up on some of the movies mentioned in each others top ten list from the Best of the Year episode and more. They also learn the cost of buying a donkey.
This week on the podcast Jimmy picks the subject and brings us misfit kids sports movies. They look at Bad News Bears from 1976 which most certainly wouldn't get made the same way today but it originates much of the tropes we would later see in popular films like The Mighty Ducks, Little Giants or Wildcats. Tristan hadn't seen it before and thought it might be about actual bears. Turns out it's an absolute banger. The guys also talk about their experience revisiting the early 90's beloved nostalgia fest that is The Sandlot, and it's all Schmores and Peppercorns from there.
Last week it was monster movies and Tristan decided he wanted to talk a bit more about Godzilla. After a festive evening watching the original 1950's version on the big screen they also delve into the 1998 and 2014 American takes on the lizard king, as well as the 2016 Shin Godzilla! Stay tuned for some Kaiju movie talk too. Get your stupid big piles of fish ready and bust out the home pregnancy tests - they're going deeper underground on this one. Uh huh, yeah (guitar riff).
For this Jimmy pick we went down the rabbit (wolf?) hole of two monster movies. One a 1950's classic and the other an early eighties Werewolf movie. Tristan is still kinda miffed the show isn't talking about Jack Nicholson's critically fiesta'd 1990's movie Wolf, but hey what can you do? Oh yeah and we call this episode 3 in the end, but it's actually episode 4. That's a whole other confusing kettle of gill-fish-men. We're gonna stop verbally naming the episodes now it's already getting kind of muddy. Or should we say lagoon-y? OK I'll stop now.
