Mary welcomes back Alana Arguello to continue our conversation around her exhaustive work, “Unearthing Yoga’s Ancient Roots”. Both believers and unbelievers alike think they understand paganism and practices like Yoga, but in reality, Yoga is not a practice – it is an idea. Think about it: if Satan convinced mankind to think they can become gods or even are gods, how does that look in practice? How do they get there, how to they act god-like? By practicing something that is no more real than their thinking they can be gods! Paganism, philosophy, delusion, are all part of the alt-beliefs that are diametrically opposed to revealed truth. God IS truth, it is not just “part” of Him. He cannot be separated from truth itself. Philosophy, long held to be a lot of hot air designed to explain away our world apart from God, is a fascinating subject and enlightens us to the rebellion against our Maker.

The bible says we have a choice, that we must choose to enter by the strait gate, and yet “few there be that find it.” When the church started to go through many different phases in the last 30 years or so, many believers didn’t follow up on warnings, and as such it has become very difficult to keep up. And to say there is sorcery in the church, that is something many may not understand; but through the New Age and experientially-based Christianity, this has indeed become the case. Times ahead may get tougher, so we have to ask ourselves, are we standing firm on the foundation of truth?

The accepted description of it is, “If The Chosen and The Office had an offspring, it would be “The Promised Land”, and indeed that is the precise description that might set our teeth on edge before we even watch it. Episode 1 dropped a month ago and already it is very popular. Of course it is, The Chosen name brand has a built in audience. Is it biblical? Reverent? No. Entertaining, yes – but what is the place for that when it comes to people who actually lived and whom God used to bring about His will? Finally, we look at the Catholic prayer app, “Hallow”. Don Veinot and Ron Henzel talk to Mary Danielsen about the fallout from the Bill Gothard teachings of the 80s and 90s. Having clearly imploded from aberrant teaching and immoral behaviour, it came to the fore in the recent documentary, “Shiny Happy People” which brought shame to the cause of Christ in a much larger public context. The children who were raised in it seem to be drifting toward deconstruct mode regarding their faith; some who wish to hang on to their faith have a long road of disentanglement ahead. So is there anything to be gained by exposing it today? What exactly was the ignition spark that brought this legalistic belief system into evangelical families in the first place? Cults – and legalists – are not just limited to extra-curricular doorbell ringers but they can and are in the midst of the church doing untold damage.
Their work, A Matter of Basic Principles, recently updated and re-released, is a difficult read but Gothard’s influence on evangelicalism must be seen for what it is, an absolute tragedy that serves as a cautionary tale to the church.

Mason’s View: There is no exclusivity in Jesus Christ or the Triune God who is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; therefore there is no doctrine of the deity of Jesus Christ. It is deemed to be un-Masonic to invoke the name of Jesus when praying, or mention His name in the Lodge. Suggesting that Jesus is the only way to God contradicts the principle of tolerance. The name of Jesus has been omitted from biblical verses that are used in Masonic rituals. Jesus, to them, is on the same level as other religious leaders.

When you are suffering from the flu, feverish with a soar throat and body aches, are these symptoms the cause of the flu or are they the effects of the flu? They are of course the effects of a virus (the true cause) that has invaded your body leading to physical illness and mild suffering. When you treat the cause you get to the root of the problem; but treating effects will not lead to a cure.
Why bring this up? It's a key to understanding the latest crisis at Willow Creek Church. The sexual assault scandal involving former Pastor Bill Hybels and several women has led to the Elder Board announcing their resignation. A consulting team has been brought in for damage control and a reorganization plan---you know just like secular businesses and corporations do when facing an internal or PR crisis. Almost everyone believes or at least acknowledges that Jesus is a real person who once walked the earth. The historical evidence clearly points to that fact. And most will say that he was an influential man or good teacher. Hundreds of millions, especially in America, claim they are Christians or claim to "believe in Him" as the means to salvation and eternal life. But ask 100 people what they actually believe about His nature, word, and character and you might get 90 different answers. Even within those who profess to be Christians you see a wide variety of opinions on the nature and character of the one who is Lord and Creator of all things.
Jesus warned His followers that false Christs would come and deceive many. If we are not diligent in the study of God's Word we can easily be deceived by any of these false Christs. Today hundreds of millions follow a "false Christ" fabricated from a variety of ideas, sources and beliefs.

There is an interesting dichotomy when we look at how two major religions--Christianity and Islam--are increasingly perceived and treated in our nation.
Biblical Christianity calls on us to love all people, even those who are directly opposed to and violate God's Word. Islam calls for punishment and even death to classes of people such as homosexuals or those who call themselves "transgender".
Biblical Christianity teaches that men should honor and cherish their wives; Islam teaches that wives are more like property than cherished partners. They can be beaten or divorced on a whim.
So which of these religions should be the one feared by women and homosexuals? Islam. Yet it continues to get a pass with feminists, the radical homosexual movement and the media, while Christianity is framed as a religion of hate and bigotry. Which religion is being kicked out of schools and shouted down in public? Christianity, while Islam is promoted celebrated in public schools and feminist circles.
