When you talk about Australian snowboarding Ryan Tiene is a name that comes up pretty quickly. Tiene started competing when he was 15 and made waves pretty quickly on the international scene. Over the last 15 yearsTiene has travelled the world snowboarding everything from parks to backcountry everywhere from Whistler to Japan. Tiene has slowed down on the competition side of things and is now is ready to pass on all the knowledge, experience and passion to the next generation of snowboarders. Turn and Burn Snowboard Camps is Ryan'snewest project and it is a game changer. The vision is to 'not only mould young athletes into great snowboarders but also nurture them into great people'. Such an incredible chance for younger boarders to learn from one of the best in the industry. Tiene has been part of the Rhythm team for 6 years and that is because he is down to earth, driven and passionate about snowboarding. We had a chat with Ryan to find out more about the next chapter of his career.

This one is personal; today, I get to interview one of my idols, Joh Griggs. Joh's bio is hard to keep short, so I will start with a few facts you might not know about Joh. In 2002, at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics, Jo became the first female in Australia to solo host the coverage of an Olympic Games. In 2006, she backed it up again and solo hosted the Olympics in Torino. Jo has hosted the Athens 04, Beijing 08, Rio 16, Tokyo 21 and the Beijing Olympic Games (with me, yay) in 2022. Along with the Australian Open of Tennis (for the last 17 years).
But we want to talk to Joh about sport; after all, Joh represented Australia at the Auckland Commonwealth Games in 1990—winning a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke! In 1993 (the same year DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's hit, Boom Boom Shake Shake the Room, destroyed Rap music forever...)... Griggs became the fastest human on the planet. The day following that swim (let me repeat this part,)after becoming the fastest human on earth in the 50M back, Joh announced her retirement from competitive swimming at 17 due to chronic fatigue syndrome. Forcing her out of the 1992 Olympic Games.
Joh has lived on our screens and in our homes for over 20 years. But that's not why Joh is one of my idols; Joh takes the time to listen, support and nurture; Joh breeds confidence in everyone around her, and it's infectious. If I could take anyone to Dinner for a night, it would be a tough fight between DJ Jazzy Jeff, The Fresh Prince, Zac Efron for his acting talents and Joh Griggs. I pick Joh!
Joh is a Director on the Board of Beyond Blue and, In 2020, was awarded an AM in the Australia Day honour list for service to community health, television, and the sport. Please enjoy my conversation with the wonderful Joh Griggs!

Joany Badenhorst is Australia’s premier female Para-snowboarder.
However, despite achieving selection to two Australian Paralympic Teams, she has never competed at a Paralympic Games.
After just missing selection for the London 2012 Paralympic Games in Para-athletics, Joany was approached by Paralympics Australia to transfer to Para-snowboard. Devastatingly, just hours before her first race at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, she crashed on a final training run, broke her patella, dislocated her knee, and collapsed her hip.
The crash only strengthened her resolve, and at 2016-2017 IPC Snowboard World Cup Finals in PyeongChang, South Korea, Joany reached the final of the women’s snowboard cross SB-LL2 and won the World Cup Crystal Globe. She won World Cup Crystal Globes for the most points in the women’s banked slalom SB-LL2 and the most points won overall for the 2017-2018 season and was among Australia’s top medals hoping to break a 16-year Paralympic Winter Games gold medal drought at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Games.
Joany was appointed co-captain of the 2018 Australian Paralympic Team with Para-alpine skier Mitchell Gourley, and the Australian flag-bearer for the Opening Ceremony. But in a horrific stroke of lousy luck, Joany injured her knee during a training run in PyeongChang and was ruled out of the Games.
In September 2019, Joany announced her retirement from elite competition and is now focused on completing a Bachelor of Journalism and pursuing a career in the media.

Andy King is a name that's synonymous with the progression of competitive surfing in Australia. I fell in love with Kingy's coaching in the new Apple+ Series, Make or break! If you haven't watched it, please do. Andy grew up around the sport all his life, obsessed with the ocean.
Kingy coached Mick Fanning to three world titles and played a massive role in helping Mick navigate the highs and lows of professional sports. He doesn't love the term coach, but he has led (or coached) some of the biggest names in surfing, such as Michel Bourez, Julian Wilson, Adriano De Souza, Gabriel Medina, and me, Miff Rennie.
Andy's shoulder-to-shoulder approach and high-performance thinking have been recognised across different sports and cultures; he believes that trust is the catalyst for taking an athlete beyond their limits.
As a former pro surfer, his passion, energy, and focus on mindset come from his devotion to human potential and an undeniable love of the ocean (and riding waves).
I hope you enjoy this chat with my private surfing coach (who doesn't know yet), Andy King!

Cooper inspires humans to improve their well-being by finding their purpose through connecting with their values, fuelled by happiness and kindness.
Travelling the world as a professional surfer for the last ten years has offered him countless opportunities, including representing Australia on multiple occasions and being rated in the top 100 surfers on the planet over the previous seven years.
From his experience of trying to achieve balance regarding his mental health, he realised that this was the same for many others. So with the alarming rise in suicide rates, especially among youth, he decided he wanted to make a difference. He watched his sister lose two friends to suicide in a fortnight while in year 12 at high school, and from that moment, Cooper's mental health organisation, The Good Human Factory, was born.
Using his platform and relatability, he aims to provide his audience with the tools to continually grow and improve their quality of life through the power of reflection, sharing stories, and connecting with and learning from others. In addition, he looks to inspire a positive and balanced life focusing on gratitude, mindfulness, responsibility, kindness and empathy.
Cooper also hosts his podcast, "Good Humans", where he speaks to high-profile people about their stories of resilience, with over 100k listeners over the past year.
Cooper is an epic snowboarder, freak surfer, rad brother to Chloe & Sophia and awesome friend; I hope you enjoy my talk with Cooper Chapman.
