“We are all running our own races. Keep your eyes on your own track.”
That’s great advice - and something I often remind my clients of.
But trust me, I can struggle with career envy and comparison at times.
This fall, I attended a lot of events and was surrounded by some amazing professionals who are totally crushing it.
But instead of being inspired, I found myself upset that I wasn’t where I wanted to be.
I was deep in a pity party shit spiral - not a cute look on me.
Luckily I was able to recognize it and get out of that spiral rather than continuing to sulk and feel bad. (thank you therapy, coaching, my husband, and rest!)
This week on the podcast, I’m sharing:

✨What career envy and comparison are trying to tell us

Let’s face it, most of us are out here just winging it. And that’s totally cool for most things in life but your performance review is not something you should whing.

But the truth is no matter if your company has a formal process or not, how frequent the conversations are at some point your performance is going to be evaluated and it’s often used to make some big decisions about your career whether you like it or not.

Your journal is full of your big dreams, you’ve got your planner all filled out, and you are ready to start tackling those goals and checking them off your list!
But that’s not always how it works in real life, is it?
Today we are going to talk about how to stay on top of your goals throughout the year so you can make the meaningful progress you want to make.
When you are in your daily life, do you find you are running from task to task or meeting to meeting and by the end of the week you feel like you didn’t get anything done? That’s probably not true at all. You probably did get some great things done but you need a better way to organize and recognize them.

What should you do to actually achieve those goals you just set? According to a study out of the University of Scranton, every year millions of people create goals or new years resolutions but only 19% actually achieve them.
You have the best of intentions! You are really excited about them at first! But then the excitement fades or you get distracted or just life happens.
It’s not enough to set goals and hope you will execute them flawlessly. Or rely on motivation or willpower.
Consistency in working towards our goals does not mean perfection.

How many planners and notebooks do you have on your desk right now? How about sticky notes? If you are like me, you love to set goals.
The New Year feels like a fresh start and you love the feeling of accomplishment when even just setting goals! But maybe you haven’t set goals in a while or maybe you’ve tried to set new years resolutions and they never really stuck.
In this 5 Part series on setting goals, I’m sharing the mistakes people make, and how to actually achieve your goals once you’ve set them without burning yourself out.
A study at Dominion University found you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down. And it doesn’t have to be just at the start of the new year or another milestone.
But there is this magic that happens when you get things out of your head and down on paper. In your head, everything is chaos, but when you write it down, everything becomes clear.

What does success look like for you? How can you set goals if you don’t know where you are going?
If you listened to episode 02 on Reflection, you have reflected on how far you’ve come and now you can start setting your vision and your intentions for the future.
Athletes like Michael Phelps are known for envisioning themselves being Olympians or making the game-winning 3-pointer.
What is that overarching vision for your life and your career that you can then set goals to help realize that?
Setting a vision can be really difficult. It can feel just really woo-woo or fuzzy especially if you haven’t seen examples of that vision in your life. And sometimes other people's assumptions get placed on you with how they think you should craft your life or career.
Our own lack of confidence or imposter syndrome can also hold us back from setting that big vision for ourselves.
