Dave Lawn joined the Arizona baseball program as an assistant coach on July 9, 2015. He was retained by newly-hired head coach Chip Hale on July 5, 2021 and promoted to the role of associate head coach on July 14. He returns for his eighth season with the Wildcats in 2023.
Lawn no stranger to the Pac-12 Conference. After beginning his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Nevada in 1988, Lawn went on to spend 10 seasons at California (1991-2000) and seven at USC (2001-07). He boasts a total of 33 years of collegiate coaching experience.
Under Lawn’s guidance, 23 players have gone on to play Major League Baseball, including Mark Prior, the 2001 Golden Spikes Award winner from USC. Lawn’s teams have four times earned trips to the College World Series, four times played in the NCAA Super Regionals and nine times earned NCAA Regional berths. Additionally, his clubs have won three Pac-12 Championships, one Big West title and one Mountain West regular season championship.
In this episode, we take a look at Bill Mosiello, the head coach of Ohio State's baseball team. With nearly 30 years of collegiate coaching experience and seven years as a minor league manager, Mosiello has coached over 90 major league players, 28 All-Stars, and helped develop 2012 Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey.
Before joining Ohio State, Mosiello spent nine seasons as the associate head coach at TCU, where he helped guide the Horned Frogs to four straight College World Series appearances and seven NCAA Tournaments. He was also instrumental in recruiting three Top 10 classes and led the Big 12 in batting average in two different seasons. Mosiello is one of the most respected offensive minds in the game, and the Horned Frogs flourished under his guidance.
Prior to TCU, Mosiello spent two seasons at Tennessee as the recruiting coordinator and hitting instructor, where he helped recruit a top 20 class each season and coached 11 players drafted in the MLB draft in first-year eligibility. He also spent time as the manager of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim’s Double-A affiliate, the Arkansas Travelers, where he tutored MLB phenom Mike Trout for nearly two full seasons.
Mosiello's coaching career started in 1987 at Cerritos College, where he won four South Coast Conference titles and two California state junior college championships in four seasons. He then moved to the Division I level in 1991, joining Augie Garrido’s staff at Cal State Fullerton, where the Titans advanced to the College World Series championship game in 1992.
Former Major League Baseball player and longtime Grand Canyon manager Andy Stankiewicz was named USC baseball’s head coach on July 3, 2022.
Stankiewicz, who has also spent time as a professional scout and minor league manager, comes to USC after 11 successful seasons at Grand Canyon in which he won five regular-season Western Athletic Conference titles (2015, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022) and was named the conference’s Coach of the Year four times (2017, 2018, 2021, 2022). He owns a career coaching record of 341-239-2.
Stankiewicz guided Grand Canyon to its first ever NCAA Division I postseason appearance in 2021 after the Lopes won the WAC Tournament, and then led the program to its first ever Division I at-large bid this past season.
On June 15, 2021, Saarloos was named the 20th head coach in program history. Saarloos joined the coaching staff in the summer of 2012 after two seasons as the pitching coach at Cal State Fullerton. During that time, the Horned Frogs have totaled six conference regular season and tournament championships, double the total of the next-closest schools, as well as four College World Series appearances. Hired initially as a pitching coach in Summer of 2012, he was promoted to recruiting coordinator the following year.
In his time at TCU, his presence has been felt both on the field and off the field. As the recruiting coordinator for nine seasons, Saarloos mentored one of the nation's top pitching staffs which was a key factor in TCU's four straight trips to the College World Series from 2014-17. He made a similar impact in his first season as the head coach, guiding the Horned Frogs to a Big 12 Regular Season championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. His efforts on the field earned him Big 12 Coach of the Year accolades, making him the first coach in Big 12 history to claim the award in his first season as the head coach.
Jim Chester is in his third year as the head coach of the Gardner-Webb baseball team after taking over the program in June 2019.
Chester led Gardner-Webb to 29 wins in 2021, his first full season at the helm. That included a 27-13 mark and a tie for second place in the Big South Conference standings, Gardner-Webb's highest finish ever since joining the league prior to the 2009 season. Chester led GWU to an 8-8 mark during the 2020 campaign that was cut short by COVID-19.
Prior to his arrival to Gardner-Webb, Chester spend two season as the head coach at Barton College. Engineering the biggest turnaround in all of NCAA Division II in 2019, Chester led the Barton Bulldogs to a 31-20 overall record, earning a second-place finish in the Conference Carolinas standings and also taking home 2019 Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year honors.

Bill Decker was introduced as the Joseph J. O'Donnell ’67 Head Coach for Harvard Baseball on September 26, 2012. He will enter his 11th season at the helm of the Crimson during the 2022-23 academic year.
In 2022, the Crimson returned to competition following a pause due to COVID-19, winning 19 games, including 10 Ivy wins, and finishing in fourth place in the Ivy League standings. Harvard recorded a pair of wins over Power Five opponents during its non-conference season, topping Miami – 11-6 in the season opener – and UCLA – in a 5-0 shutout victory. The Crimson pitching staff ranked 29th in the NCAA in strikeouts per game (9.8) while Harvard’s batters ranked 51st in the nation in doubles per game (2.1). Harvard totaled five All-Ivy selections and three CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees.
Walter was named head baseball coach at Wake Forest on June 16, 2009. Wrapping up his 25th year as a head coach in 2022, Walter has amassed an overall record of 793-661-1. His 500th-career win came at home against Clemson (2-1) on May 18, 2012, while win number 600 also came against Clemson on March 11, 2016.
Marc Rardin was named the WKU baseball head coach on June 15, 2022.
Rardin, who has spent the past 20 seasons as the skipper at Iowa Western Community College while making 12 JUCO World Series appearances and winning three NJCAA Division I National Championships, became the 17th head coach for a WKU baseball program that began in 1910.
Rardin and the Reivers accumulated numerous notable accomplishments during his time at the helm. During his 20 seasons at Iowa Western, the program won 15 Regional Championships and 12 District Championships while making 12 JUCO College World Series appearances and earning three NJCAA D1 National Championships. Rardin compiled a remarkable 934-252 (.788) record over that span while averaging more than 46 wins per season, including a 452-69 (.868) conference/regional record and 122-43 (.739) record in postseason play. Over the past 20 years, no other Division I junior college baseball program has won more games or more postseason championships than Iowa Western.
That success has resulted in Rardin earning three National Coach of the Year honors, 10 District Coach of the Year awards and 12 Louisville Slugger Coach of the Year accolades. He was also a 2015 inductee into the NJCAA Hall of Fame.

"I have known Walter for over 35 years and there are not many other people around with his vast knowledge of baseball. He has played professionally, he has coached collegiately, and he has had two sons who have taken different, yet both successful paths in the game of baseball - these experiences make him uniquely qualified to share his knowledge and opinions. Walter cares about young people, and though he may not tell you what you want to hear, he will always tell you what you need to hear. He will be an important and objective guide to your decision-making process." Tim Corbin, Head Coach - Vanderbilt University.
