Kabul-based reporter, Ali Latifi says he goes out each day to the streets to face his fear and to show the Taliban, “I’m not going to stop living my life.”

Afghanistan-born, Latifi, returned to Kabul from the U.S. to live in 2013. He now faces a very altered way of life in his birth City.“The fear exists that one day they'll come to my house or one day they'll just stop me on the street, and I don't know what they'll do.”

Latifi says he doesn’t want to be “driven out” by the Taliban, while acknowledging others don’t have the luxury, as he does, of being able to leave—He describes hundreds engaged in a desperate standoff with U.S. forces, trying to enter Kabul airport.

“I want to try and continue to tell the story of this place. And…try and last here as long as I can, but I honestly don't know how long that will be.”

With little seemingly being done to hold the China regime to account for its role (in at least) spreading the coronavirus, the possibility of another outbreak isn’t so far-fetched.

One critical part of surviving this uncertain and dangerous time, is to understand the disguised forces of tyranny that we’re up against. Orwell’s Animal Farm does a good job of laying out the modus operandi of communists. Their methods haven’t changed that much over time. However, by understanding their playbook, we can see through the fake promises and fake veneer to know them by their conduct, and stand against them.

‘Word on the street’ is that Xi Jinping wants to send his top foreign affairs official, Yang Jiechi to Washington to get the ball rolling for a Xi and Biden meeting. While the CCP deny this, it stands to reason that they’d want to get the pre-Trump status quo between China and U.S restored ASAP. Largely, the CCP needs the massive economic injection that an end to U.S. sanctions would mean. Even so, Beijing’s being careful to mask its desperation; opting instead for its trademark ‘let’s play hardball’ stance: It’s laying down a series of demands, such as that the U.S. not challenge it on its so called “internal affairs” — mass human rights abuse of Tibetans, Uighur in Xin Jiang and the people of Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Biden’s recently stated his position on China with all the clarity of a cryptic crossword clue — “we need to not have a conflict. But there's going to be extreme competition. I'm not going to do it the way that he (Xi) knows. And that's because he's sending signals as well.” Exactly what ‘no conflict, but extreme competition’ entails remains to be seen. The Wuhan Institute of Virology (or Wuhan lab) came to be known, ironically, as the highest-profile scientific institution in the world last year. This is because it’s the suspected source of the Coronavirus. While that suspicion remains to be proved, a team of experts from the World Health Organization visited the Institute yesterday to supposedly investigate its connection to the virus’ beginnings. However, by all signs and symptoms this visit appears to be little more than another CCP political campaign. The first give away was that WHO team was first taken to the “Anti-pandemic Achievement Exhibition,” where they were given a thorough “education” in how the CCP has valiantly won the fight against the pandemic. Meanwhile, Wuhan police were working overtime to ensure that the WHO team didn’t get any ‘reality checks’ from any of the virus victims’ families who wanted to meet with them. The visit included a stop at the Huanan Seafood Market, which also thought to have been a source of COVID-19, was officially closed, cleaned and disinfected after the outbreak a year ago. Overall, the WHO team’s visit to Wuhan, like its general response to the pandemic is a case of ‘too little, too late.’ This is unfortunate, given the potential for a real investigation to yield results that could benefit future pandemic prevention.
