The transfiguration is a beautiful reminder of Jesus’ power, sonship, and fulfillment as suffering Messiah.

Jesus is entering into a massive storm in Jerusalem, but through the chaos will come blessing.
We will face rejection because we are believers just as Jesus did even from those closest to us. Despite this we must still live as Jesus did and be the light.
Jesus’ kingdom parables should reveal in us a joyful, whole-hearted commitment to the King and his kingdom.
Jesus reveals the essence of parables, and the importance of a hungry heart for the Kingdom.
Jesus warns us about the danger of wanting signs from God without having a heart to follow him.
Jesus rebukes the Pharisees for their blasphemy against the Spirit and power of God, and reminds us of the power of words revealing our true heart.
Through the prophet Isaiah, Jesus is revealed to be the spirit filled servant who is constantly pressing against the cultural norm of success, greatness, and popularity.

Jesus brings hope to the world through his birth. His entire birth story is one that screams God’s love for even the lowest of people.
In order to follow Jesus and his kingdom, we must take up our cross and place Jesus as our ultimate King.

Following Jesus entails persecution, and we must be willing to suffer the same level as Jesus did.
Jesus’ heart is so deeply stirred with compassion for broken people that he empowers his followers to embody this same kingdom value for others to see and feel.

Jesus isn’t just concerned about physical healing, but a much deeper spiritual healing that was most understood by blind men.
Jesus is never to busy for you, and he has the ultimate authority over sin, pain, and even death.
The type of community Jesus is revealing is one that tears down cultural, social, and moral barriers so that all may find freedom and belonging in Him.
By healing a paralytic and forgiving his sins through his authority, Jesus shows us that he became the walking temple for our sins and brokenness.
As Jesus is ushering in the light of his Kingdom, the enemy will try and stop it-- but Jesus has true power and authority over any spiritual oppression.
Jesus’ bluntly says that following Him requires all of us, and he won’t allow our own brokenness and excuses to get in the way of him loving us.
By following Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, he moves from words to action by revealing the true authority his kingdom has over pain, suffering, and racism by loving the disadvantaged.
Jesus ends his sermon on the mount with four haunting warnings every follower of Jesus must understand and consider.
Jesus is revealing to us that God the Father wants us to be in relationship with us and for us to ask for things in prayer trusting him in the process.
As followers of Jesus, we must discern our own faults before we humbly examine the faults of others followers.
Jesus reminds us that our priority is to seek Him and his Kingdom, and everything will fall into place.
Jesus shows us that followers of Jesus pursue the things of God (giving, prayer, fasting) for God and not for ourselves or others.
The way of Jesus is not just love for your neighbor, but love and prayer for your enemies. Love must be given to all by those who follow Jesus
The way Jesus retaliates is far different than the way we and the world thinks we should retaliate. For Jesus, retaliation is filled with a ridiculous abundance of grace & love.
Jesus cares deeply about our words, especially when we spin and manipulate our words to elevate our agendas at the cost of relationships.
Jesus shows his heart and passion for God’s creation of marriage while humanity has tarnished this through divorce and hard hearts. However, ultimately Jesus’ heart is for reconciliation and grace towards any of us who have been divorced, adulterous, and sinful.
Jesus boldly proclaims that though God has given us sexual desire for good, the sin of lust will consume us if we don’t realize the severity of it, nor confront/dealt with it.
Jesus reveals that we must dig even deeper than the external sin of murder towards a heart of anger that must be dealt with. Even the smallest sins are an injustice towards God and his kingdom.
Jesus reveals that he has come to fulfill the law in its entirety. From this reality, he calls his followers to dive deeper into the heart of the law as they follow him.
In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, he reveals that the DNA of those in his Kingdom are Salt (which preserves and enhances), and Light (which illuminates and expels darkness) for the world.
Jesus’ first priority in his Sermon on the Mount (Hill) was to reveal that those whom the world least values, respects, and understands are the first people welcomed and blessed in His kingdom.
Jesus starts his public ministry with proclaiming the need for repentance because the Kingdom of God is here.
Jesus reveals to us that ultimate trust in God is not contingent on our circumstances, ability to play God, or own power.
John the baptist was the forerunner for Jesus who proclaimed “Repent, for the kingdom of God is near.” The kingdom of God is God’s presence in our reality.
Matthew is drawing on the Old Testament prophecies to show how Jesus will fulfill the need for a Messiah to come and save and restore the people of Israel in a way we would hardly want or recognize.
Matthew shows us that Jesus is: the Messiah, “Yahweh Saves” and “God with Us,” as he comes to save his people (and the world) of their sin.
The resurrection of Jesus shows his power over sin and death, for the restoration and commission to those who follow Him.
The Entry of the King is the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem during the “perfect storm” to reveal his heart for God the Father and the people of Jerusalem.
Contrast has four pillars of strategy to fulfill our mission—Sunday gatherings, CORE communities, Missional Communities, and missional living.
Passing through “the wall (spiritual crisis)” is essential for growth, and a deeper understand of God and relationship with Him.
God has given us the gift of marriage as an opportunity to symbolize his love for his people.
God created humans with the opportunity for intimacy and attraction as an echo of his love within the Trinity.

Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice leads us to sacrifice and the removal of greed for generosity.
Our deeds (works) will never amount to the importance and weight of dependence on Jesus’ sacrifice for us.
Following Jesus requires intentionality centered on a lifelong pursuit of growing, and becoming more like Him.
A mark of disruptive discipleship is a prioritized presence with Jesus that overflows into a presence with others.
In a culture of compromise, followers of Jesus must lean into a disruptive discipleship that embodies resilience.
Jesus’ call to discipleship, and union with him is a radical denial of self which leads to loving and serving others.
Love for neighbor, and hospitality are at the heart of the gospel and mission of the church.
The diversity of the Body of Christ is to foster unity with its unique gifts rooted in love.
Our devotion for following Jesus leads to a reverential awe that produces Kingdom wins.
The church is to be a tangible display of God’s love, known by our unity and radical love for one another and the world.
Our mission is the same as Jesus’ during his time on earth—prioritizing self-giving love through our kingdom-ushering presence and proclamation of the good news.
Our belief in Jesus, rooted in the love and grace of God, propels us into spiritual formation—becoming like Jesus by knowing him, and doing what he would do if he were you.
