Today we’re going to be talking about something that’s followed us throughout our lives. Most of us grew up with them sprinkled throughout our childhood, through outlets including Disney, bedtime stories, fairy tales, and more. In fact, one particular character is the biggest and most well known figure of Disney. But, we’re not going to be talking about Tinker Bell! Simply put, this is a name given to a possible serial killer, or gang, who seems to have murdered around 45 men throughout 11 states towards the late 90s through 2010s. Though there is quite a lot that can “tie” these together, the main thing that these all share? Smiley Face graffiti somewhere close to most of the crime scenes.

For nearly seven years across the 1980s, a woman was plagued by hundreds of harassing phone calls, threatening letters, and much worse. Many were skeptical of the authenticity regarding this harassment campaign, with law enforcement even accusing the supposed victim of fabricating the attacks, for one reason or another. In any event, this terrifying campaign of threats and harassment came to a head in 1989, when the victim inexplicably went missing, being found weeks later. This is a story you might be familiar with if you’ve watched the original Unsolved Mysteries TV show, and it’s a truly baffling case. This is the story surrounding the death of Cindy James.

In 1947, a newlywed couple and their friend travelled to Severn Falls, Ontario, for a relaxing honeymoon at a cottage up north. However, things would take a mysterious and tragic turn, as the cabin would go up in flames shortly after arriving. In a startling twist, one of the cottage goers was found dead, having drowned in just nine inches of water. The case of the Eight Day Bride remains unsolved to this day, and the circumstances and details surrounding it will leave one confused and disturbed. Joining us on this adventure is a close friend of the podcast, a ball of savage sass and fire, and all around smart person: Darkethena.

Hauntings don’t just happen in your home or at the local cemetery. In fact, one of the most common places are the roads we travel on almost every day. Whether it’s a highway, road, bridge, and so on, there’s bound to be a story or two. Today, we’re going to talk about a road from Ginge's home state called Jeremy Swamp Road, located in Southbury, Connecticut. There may be nothing to this, but there may be something sinister, or even paranormal, surrounding this road and many others on this strange planet we call home.
In 1994, Debora Hoyt felt an incredibly strong pull to leave her family’s home and drive into the mountains. This journey, along with her husband would take them onto Highway 50 to a part known as Bullion Bend. Unbeknownst to her, a mother Christine and her child Nicky had gone missing about 5 days earlier. They’d left their home but never arrived at their destination, thus causing their relatives to report them missing. As Debora and her husband were coming up to Bullion Bend, she noticed something on the side of the road. As they grew closer, she realized that something was in fact a naked women lying on the side of the road who she believed to be dead. The series of events that follow are unexplained to this day, and may be one of the most credible instances of the phenomenon known as Guardian Angels.

With how short our podcast exclusive Christmas Special was, we thought it would be neat to look at some scary stories revolving around New Years Eve, to give the Strange Wilderness Podcast one last hurrah before going into 2022. After scouring the internet for exactly 17 minutes, 43 seconds, we found a few stories posted to Reddit that I thought fit the theme perfectly. Here is one of those stories. On New Years Eve in 2011, a group of friends experienced a bizarre series of events, involving texts from an unknown individual who seemed to know a little too much about their night to be considered coincidence. In this episode, we're doing things a little differently. With Ginge out of town for the week, we've decided to dive deep into the archives and bring you the episode that inspired the podcast you've come to love. Before Strange Wilderness, there was Call of the Void, a short-form show Matt created around experiences and encounters with all things extraterrestrial. It was much more serious in tone, and this show will be returning as part of our side content in the new year, but for now, here is the season finale of that series, where Ginge joined Matt as the one and only guest. This episode is purely theoretical and details can and probably will be wrong in some capacity, but it was fun to speculate nonetheless. This is our deep dive into The Dark Forest Theory, and how it can possibly be linked to what we call The Uncanny Valley.
In this episode, Strange Wilderness' own ScardyGinge shares a particularly bizarre and downright terrifying experience she and her husband Josh experienced in a rural part of Connecticut while visiting the area for Thanksgiving. Ginge describes how they encountered a rather suspicious abandoned vehicle, followed by a likely supernatural event that had them on edge for the rest of their drive. This is a theoretical concept that sits snugly in the terrifying world of physics, and Matt will absolutely get some concepts wrong since he's not a physics person, so bear with us as we dive down this rabbit hole. Welcome to Season 2! Roughly 25 million years ago, a massive fissure opened within the Eurasian continent, and, as a result, gave birth to what is now called Lake Baikal. This lake is considered the oldest and deepest lake on earth, measuring an estimated 5,387 feet, or 1,642 meters deep, and contains about 5,521 cubic miles of water (which is about 1/5 of Earth’s fresh surface water). The lake is an ecological and biological marvel, as it features countless species of flora and fauna, with 80% of its more than 3700 species being found exclusively at this location on earth. Located near the Russian city of Irkutsk (aka one of the largest cities in Siberia), this sprawling freshwater expanse is the subject of many, dare I say it, strange and wild occurrences and encounters, leading some to spin tangled webs of conspiracies involving the lake and its possible inhabitants. This is our deep dive into the mysteries surrounding this lake.

Greetings explorers! With Halloween just around the corner, and our Strange Wilderness Halloween special coming even sooner, Ginge and I thought it would be fun to bring you a week of horror leading up to the day of our special on October 27. Over the next six days, you'll be treated to four short scary stories, originally featured on our TikTok: strangewildernesspod. This is part one. So, turn off the lights, sit back, and enjoy our descent into the dark and scary.

Just south of Mexico City, between the canals of Xochimilco, there lies a small island. This island was never meant to be a tourist destination, but its dark and mysterious past has led to it becoming a hotbed for paranormal investigators, thrill seekers, and fans of all things spooky. After hearing of the Missing 411 phenomenon, this user would go on to speculate that they may have come across, and possibly narrowly escaped, becoming part of the very phenomenon Paulides investigates. On an isolated and rural farmstead in Palmyra, Maine, the Martin family felt like they had found the perfect home. Due to a workplace injury, Eric Martin was unable to work, leading to Shelley leaving her career, moving the family to her hometown where she would be able to work and care for Eric full time. By all accounts this was the perfect property for the family - it was inexpensive, large and sat on a massive plot on land, flanked by dense forests. However, not too long after moving onto the farm, things would take a sinister and eerie turn. A strange series of events would soon follow, culminating in a terrifying event that saw the family barricading their home from an unknown pack of attackers.
