Today’s conversation with Melissa Franks will hit home. Melissa is a corporate C-Suite executive with a background in both large corporate global organizations and technology start ups. With a passion to help people thrive inside of other people's companies, Melissa’s mission is to bring more women back into the workforce by giving them the tools to have it all: live the life and do the work that they love. Melissa’s message is all about advocating for yourself while being transparent, because downplaying everything and trying to be superhuman is not the way to thrive. After she found herself hitting rock bottom, Melissa was determined to find a better way, speak up for herself, and model the behavior she would want her own children to have in the future. Melissa shares her advice for advocating for yourself, becoming clear on who you are, what’s important to you, and what matters to you. In this episode, we cover: * Melissa’s background and path to burnout * How to adjust the balance of life, and modeling that for your kids * Getting clear on your core values * Reevaluating your priorities * The risk of forging your own path without guidance

It’s okay to not be fine and to need help. This habitual narrative of saying you’re fine, when you, in fact are not, is limiting your happiness. I personally have done this, and it didn’t allow anyone to truly engage with the real me, and I also wasn’t allowing myself to live an extraordinary life. It’s time to stop lowering our expectations of ourselves, because this habit that is so common in motherhood can consume our identity. In today’s episode, I share 5 reasons to make the choice to tell people how you are really feeling instead, and change your habits for a more fulfilled, fun, and rewarding life.   Tune in to hear: * The importance of telling the truth about your life * The importance of telling people where you are * Why you should say “yes” to help and support * How to tell the truth about how you're doing

It’s time to change the conversation that we have with ourselves, with other moms, and also with our kids. This listener requested topic is a great one, because not too long ago, I deemed myself a champion yeller, and yet I have stopped yelling at my kids, and it’s freaking beautiful. I have found that when we, as moms, are able to take care of ourselves, we are aware of our health and happiness, and can then show up for our kids the way in which they need us, and be the mom they will respect the most.    So if you’re ready to also change the conversation, dive in as I peel back the five things that I have put into practice that are allowing me to yell less, laugh more, and be way more fun. You can easily put these into practice and quickly see the benefits. You’ve got this!   Tune in to hear: * Why our energy matters in the morning * Stop yelling for ordinary things * How to show up in a way that feels good to you * The importance of giving your kid the respect & space that they need * Having awareness about your trigger points

With the start of the new year, comes New Year's Resolutions and goals. I love plans, goals, and setting intentions but I absolutely hate New Year's resolutions,  largely because it’s often setting us up for failure. For the most part, goals aren’t achieved because we wake up on January 1st and become a new person, rather they are achieved by actually creating new habits and adopting a mindset shift. In this episode, I talk more about ways to handle the new year by setting intentions, facing your fears, and what steps you need to take to actually make your dreams come true.    In this episode, we cover: * You are not a new person on January 1st [1:05] * Getting your beliefs behind your intentions [3:45] * Tackling fear and excitement [7:40] * Writing down your concerns and what you’re afraid of [12:39] * Talk your fears out loud [15:23] * Using your fear as motivation [18:05] * The embodiment of fear [21:04]

I went from burnt out to feeling bliss, every single day, not because of a magic pill, but through a meaningful mindset shift. I definitely have moments where I get super frustrated and upset, but what I'm noticing now is that I don't stay in those places for too long. The start of my journey wasn’t easy, and as moms, I know you can relate to this, but honestly, I believe there are things we do to our own selves that really shake up our peace! In today’s episode, I share how you may be blocking your own bliss, learning to deal with your children’s emotions and the power self-work has in all areas of your life. In this episode, we cover: * Putting up blocks between ourselves and the people we love [1:17] * Processing your frustration and triggers [6:52] * Removing your ego from your child’s experience [12:21] * The power of building up your nervous system [15:15] * Why your worth is not based on your productivity [17:59] * Everything worth doing doesn’t happen overnight [23:12] * Self-work has a massive impact on all areas of your life [27:56]

Today’s topic is really big for me because I truly subscribed to this way of thinking, which is living a default life. At the time I didn’t know that this is what I was doing but when I realized what was happening it was eye-opening. Time is flying by and before you know it, you’re going to be old and grey which is totally fine but it’s important to make the most of what you have on this earth. During the episode, I talk more about how I am just on the cusp of figuring out more about who I am and what I want, whether or not you are actually living to your fullest and how to balance motherhood with your own identity. In this episode, we cover: * Awareness gives you choices [2:09] * Living to your fullest or living for others? [6:24] * Turning off auto-pilot mode [10:02] * Are you choosing to proactively show up for your life? There is so much we have to deal with as moms, that even though we try as hard as we can, there is very little we can do to control the things we cannot predict. Which brings up a really important question that we as moms need to ask ourselves - how do we handle adversity and our reactions to the things we cannot control? In today’s episode, I want to dive deeper into this topic and share more about how this manifests when it comes to achieving our goals. I talk about the psychology of fear, my issue with arbitrary dates for goal setting, and what is really stopping you from reaching your goals. In this episode, we cover: * Dealing with adversity and the things we cannot control [2:03] * Fear is not comfortable [5:18] * Arbitrary dates for setting goals and letting fear take over [10:16] * Successful people face their goals [15:53] * What is stopping me from reaching my goals? In today’s solo episode, I want to talk about the "my way or the highway" phenomenon and the tendency we have to think that if something worked for us it has to work for others! Sometimes this can show up in parenting, for example, if your spouse was brought up a certain way, they may want to do the same thing for your kids and you might not want to. During the episode, I share my thoughts on the issue of imposing our own views on our kids, how to talk to your kids without an ego and why you should let your kids create their own experiences. In this episode, we cover: * We don’t always have to do things the way others have done it [2:22] * The issue with the “my way or the highway” approach [6:04] * Know your audience and how your kids want to learn [11:05] * How to talk to your kids without your ego [16:00] * Let your kids create their own experiences and stay curious [22:10]

Now, Laura is sharing her message with the rest of the world with her new book Rebel Mama. Watching our kids grow up is so exciting, but it’s also very hard for many of us. I have found that the older my kids get, the harder it is on me. Obviously, we want what’s best for our kids, but in order to do that, we need to trust that we have given them a good foundation and that they are able to make decisions on their own. These transitions require unconditional support. We never want to feel like we are interfering with their journey. I want to help so that you can cope and manage some of these huge transitions in a way that feels good to you. Today, I am sharing why we need to trust the decisions our kids are making, accepting how we feel during each transition of their lives, and letting them live their lives without having to worry about disappointing us. In this episode, we cover: * Taking responsibility for how we feel during each transition [1:53] * We can’t make what happens with our kids a reflection of us [8:14] * We need to trust our kids with the choices they are making and give them unconditional support [13:33] * Letting our kids live their lives without guilt [19:38] * There is only one person responsible for your happiness, and that’s you [24:37] * The bittersweet feeling of watching your kids grow up [30:41]

All feelings and emotions serve a purpose for us. When we allow the feeling to process and give us the information that we need, then we can use it to head in the direction we're meant to be going. It can feel really uncomfortable to feel emotions that make us uncomfortable - but that’s only because we allow it to make us feel that way. Instead, we really need to center in on what that emotion is telling us and why. So when it comes to people pleasing, what is that emotion really trying to say? In this episode, I talk about the power of processing rather than burying our emotions, my own experience with people pleasing, why people pleasing is a habitual act, how science defines people pleasing and why you need to learn to love yourself first before you can start loving others. In this episode, we cover: * Let your emotions speak for themselves [0:40] * People pleasing affects all humans [7:14] * Sidelining your needs to serve others becomes habitual [12:25] * What is people pleasing? [17:12] * Learn to love yourself and then love others [23:49] * How to address chronic people pleasing [32:46] * Build up your confidence [37:36]

As moms, one thing we face on the daily is that we second guess ourselves constantly. We have this set of self imposed rules, we use to really judge ourselves, largely because we have our own level of perfectionism that we're trying to hit. It seems like most of our actions are based on trying to be a certain way, for ourselves and for our family, and for everybody that's looking on us. But another thing we also face is criticism from others, especially moms who are constantly judging the actions of other moms. In this episode, I want to talk about why we as moms need to give each other a break already and stop the judging! I share how judgment is a learned and nurtured behaviour, the constant barrage of choices and second guessing we deal with as moms, turning judgment into empathy and why we need to stop creating further divisions amongst moms. In this episode, we cover: * Facing judgment from other moms [0:52] * How do you become a judgmental person? [6:29] * Turn judgment into empathy 20:12] * When you love yourself you don’t compare yourself to others [30:05] * What to do the next time you judge a mom [39:41]

As women, there is immense pressure to look a certain way, no matter our age. In fact, aging isn’t even in the equation! We shouldn’t look like moms but we should act like them, we shouldn’t age but we shouldn’t dress too young, we should be smart but also shouldn’t let our physical appearance slide. I mean the list goes on - and after a while, that list becomes something normal that we process as gospel truth. Internalizing this idea of appearance equals self-worth and value is really harmful, but I understand it's really tough to let it go overnight. In today’s episode, I talk about being accountable for your own happiness and why you shouldn’t base your self-worth on your appearance. I share my thoughts on the harm behind comments on someone’s appearance, the pressure to be physically perfect and the impact it has on your mental state, and how to be mindful about social media, filters, and the illusion of perfection. In this episode, we cover: * Stop the pity party and start being accountable for your own happiness [1:20] * Your self-worth isn’t based on your appearance [7:43] * Commenting on someone's physical appearance can be harmful [14:19] * The pressure to be perfect on the outside while you crumble on the inside [19:34] * How we can speak up for ourselves and protect our wellness [27:09] * You are more than your physical appearance [32:27]

The main point of my platform and my purpose is to help you to stop turning outward for validation and self-worth. My goal is to help you filter out some of the external noise so that at the end of the day, the voice you hear and the one you trust the most, is your own. In today’s episode, I am talking about how to stop worrying about what others think about you! It’s easier said than done, but trust me when I say most people are more worried about their own selves than they are about you. During the episode, I share the importance of tuning into your own self, how caring about what others think really limits you, and moving beyond the comfort zone of relying on others to increase your self-worth. In this episode, we cover: * Not worrying about what others think [1:23] * Learning to trust yourself [4:59] * Basing your own mood on what others think of you [10:05] * Leaving the comfort zone and relying on yourself is hard work [14:41] * How to not care too much what others think [20:54] * We are all unique! Let's focus on creating a relationship with yourself [28:37]

This episode is inspired by a story that really demonstrates a very common behaviour pattern amongst parents. This isn't about shaming parents at all, but I think it’s great to shed light on this behavior and really be honest and ask ourselves how does this actually benefit our kids? In today’s episode, I am talking about how we handle accusations that our children are involved in bullying. I get it, no parent wants to hear that their kid messed up. No parent wants to hear that their kid has behaved badly or gotten in trouble, but it's likely going to happen at some point, and when it does, how do you want to handle it? I explain the power of denial that often comes up in parenting, how honesty with yourself helps you face your own child’s poor choices and In this episode, we cover: * Denying our child’s bullying actions [2:17] * The power of denial [6:14] * Denial impacts your kids more than you think [11:15] * Getting comfortable with your own truths helps you face your children’s truths even better [16:49] * Perfection is an illusion so don’t aim for it [20:58] * Kids know they should face the consequences of their actions so teach them accordingly [25:59]

One day, if you put in the work, and you actually prioritize your well-being your life will change. You will wake up one day and all of a sudden you're in this place where you don't feel the need to reach out for external validation anymore. Why? Because you have peace and trust within yourself because you choose to put yourself first. But how is this possible? In today’s episode, I am talking about how the actions you take this minute will change the rest of your life. I talk about why you need to start making changes even if it feels scary, how your greatest obstacle is the story you tell yourself and why you have options and choices at the end of the day. In this episode, we cover: * This is the start of the rest of your life [1:17] * It’s time to change the habits that don’t serve you [7:45] * Your greatest obstacle is the story that goes on in your head [14:43] * What is holding you back and why? The biggest dilemma a lot of moms face is asking for what you want and getting it. We’re told that’s exactly what we should do, but how do you do that? How do you tap into what really matters to you, and get the confidence to face your fear and actually ask for what you want? It can be really hard to do that when your own inner voice and inner monologue is stopping you at every single corner. In today’s episode I talk about how to harness your inner voice to become your cheerleader and not your sabotager. I share why our inner voice can be our own worst enemy, why trusting your gut directs you to the path of success and how you need to prioritize yourself and heal your inner voice. In this episode, we cover: * Being your own worst enemy [1:37] * Our inner voice was formed at a young age to impact the rest of your life [5:52] * Your success and confidence is directly related to the narrative in your head [13:18] * What is your inner voice really telling you? I have a confession to make. On this podcast, I have always preached authenticity and finding the why behind what you do. In the past, I have explained what has motivated me to start a podcast but in reality, I have been holding back a little bit. I have been filtering my voice and I realize it’s not only doing a disservice to myself, it also isn’t fair to you! In today’s episode, I really want to deep dive into the idea of fear and filtering yourself. Moms have so much to offer and sometimes it can be really hard to show up as our most authentic and unfiltered version. I talk about why your happiness is your responsibility, why prioritizing your own needs helps others respect you better, ad why you didn't become a mom to silence your voice and be a victim. In this episode, we cover: * You can ask for everything you want and not have to hold back [3:36] * Take a day off whenever [8:06] * Your happiness is an inside job [13:19] * Prioritizing yourself means others respect you [20:15] * You are not a victim! [22:50] * You are here on this earth to have more than one day off [32:59] * You don’t have to justify the way you want to live your life [38:51]

It’s crazy how in 2022 we are still having this completely nonsensical battle between stay-at-home moms versus working moms. I mean it blows my mind! Why do we as moms find every reason to battle each other when we are already dealing with so many other battles? In today’s episode, I really want to deep dive into this heated topic between stay-at-home moms and working moms. I don’t need to tell you that I think both equally have merit, but this discussion needs to be had. I share why you should instead turn inward and determine why other mom’s choices make you feel uncomfortable, how no mom know’s it all and why you should focus on supporting other moms instead. In this episode, we cover: * Why are we battling each other? [1:46] * Judgment during covid, vaccines, and going back to school [9:52] * Ask yourself why do other mom’s choices make you feel uncomfortable [14:51] * There is no mom that knows it all [21:14] * Focus on support and curiosity [24:45] * Is the battle with other moms or within yourself? [27:52]

I'm talking to you, the human, the woman, the person, not the mom, when I am asking if you feel connected to yourself. Because when it comes to the relationship you have with yourself, this is paramount. This is where you start everything, and it’s the origin for all of your thoughts, all of your behaviors, all of your actions, and ultimately, all of the results that take place in your life. In today’s episode, I am talking about one of the most important subjects ever - our inner dialogue and the way we talk to ourselves, because let’s face it, the inner voice that goes on in our head actually has a huge impact on our sense of self and identity. I share why we need to reframe the language we use in our day-to-day thoughts, why it’s important to step outside your zone of comfort, and how you can create the life you want by just changing the thoughts in your head. In this episode, we cover: * Our life and everything that follows starts with the stories we have in our heads [2:03] * Changing the language of fear and failure [7:02] * Aligning the stories in our head with the person we want to become [14:01] * It’s easy to stay in the zone of comfort, but it’s not always helpful [20:23] * Tuning into your emotions and how it connects to your internal story [28:45] * The impact of long term stress [34:09] * You have control over your story [42:14]

Confessions of a shopaholic - move over, there’s a new kid on the block and she’s running out of steam. Mommy martyrdom is rife in today’s world, but is it really helpful? Spoiler alert -it’s not, and I am pretty vocal on the podcast as to why this practice needs to stop. Really the crux of my mission with the podcast is to create a platform where I'm able to show up for you and provide you as much support as I can, and help you feel seen and heard. One big topic is mommy martyrdom - a mindset where we are where one believes that self-sacrificing is so necessary, and it is expected. In today’s episode, I talk about why mommy martyrdom is a hoax. I share the power of showing up for yourself first in order to help others, why boundaries matter, and why your identity is more than just being a mom. In this episode, we cover: * What is mommy martyrdom [2:35] * Prioritize yourself first [6:41] * You have the power to make the change [16:32] * A loving relationship with yourself means a loving relationship with your kids [22:47] * Motherhood is changing and gives more space for you to have an identity outside of being a mom [31:45] * Working mom or stay at home - you all matter [37:11] * The paradox of motherhood and how to fix it [41:36]

When I think about a typical mom, I picture a woman running out the door, her hair in a bun, she's got a kid on a hip, four bags in her hand, she probably has earbuds in, and she's doing 35 things at once. And guess what? She's getting it all done. Amazing right? Yes! But is this multitasking supermom really sustainable? In today’s episode, I talk about why being a multitasking mom is not a desirable superhero trait. I share all the reasons why you need to reevaluate being a multitasking mom because in the long run it’s not realistic to ask that of ourselves, it's not helpful in the long run, it's really not sustainable and it’s not the example we want to set for our kids. In this episode, we cover: * Being a multi-tasking supermom isn’t fun [0:48] * Multitasking moms are just layering everyone's stuff on top of their own [6:46] * This new normal isn’t actually optimal [12:24] * We are capable of multitasking but we need to put boundaries around it [16:50] * You might be missing out on the important needs of your family [20:32] * Multitasking is not an easy habit to break but you need to prioritize [24:40]

Listen, we’ve all been through it but actually being on the receiving end of your child’s hormonal journey is tough. I get it mama, you’re not alone! In today’s episode, I talk about how to handle your child’s puberty journey and how to best support your child as they go through this intense journey. I share why it’s important not to make the puberty journey about you the parent, how these new experiences can be frightening to your child, why you need to be transparent with your child about their changing bodies, and why your role is to be supportive at the end of the day. You are in the driver’s seat of your life and that means you need to lead the way. Now it can be tough as moms, especially, since we have a million and one things to do and not enough time to do any of it. How can we possibly sit in the driver’s seat of our own life when we have to help everyone else in their own life - especially our children? In today’s episode, I talk about the infamous participation trophy when it comes to children. Bottom line is that your child’s life is on them and they are the one that makes decisions every single day. And the harsh truth is that no one really cares about your except for you and obviously. So what are you supposed to do when all of a sudden life throws you a curveball all in the name of participation and fairness? Well in this episode, I share how a real-life experience with my child’s sports game made me rethink the way we try and make others feel comfortable, letting your kids experience life’s up and downs, why there are tons of extraordinary people out there including your child and how I really feel about the participation trophy. Marie Kondo sparked a global movement for a reason! There is something not only helpful but incredibly cathartic about decluttering. Decluttering doesn’t even have to be physical items, it can also mean clearing up whatever junk we have occupying precious mental real estate. As moms, we have a lot on our plate including caring for the household, our partner’s needs, our children’s needs, professional ambitions, and finally ourselves. If reading that sentence tired you out, you’re not alone. It is tiring to do all of this, and despite being supermoms, decluttering is imperative, and honestly is an act of self-care! In today’s episode, I am talking about the power of decluttering your physical environment and your mindset. I share the best tips for decluttering, why physical objects should not have power over you, and the power a decluttered space has on your mind. In this episode, we cover: * Decluttering is spring cleaning for the mind soul and body [2:52] * Start doing it now, don’t save it for later [8:09] * Do not give physical objects all the power [13:34] * Prioritize decluttering your space and time [18:59] * Make a weekly recurring ritual for self-care [28:32] * Clear your mental real estate [35:05] * Your self worth is not related to your level of business [43:59]

It seems that as moms we have energy, but only just enough to do our mom duties - but what does that actually mean for us? In today’s episode, I am talking about mom energy and where to find it. Earlier this March my baby girl turned 15 and with this came the opportunity to pierce her nose. Yes, I let my daughter pierce her nose. Honestly, I thought she’d outgrow this request but she was very adamant and continued to advocate for the piercing and ultimately I gave in. On our drive up I started to realize, like many mamas out there, that my baby is growing up. I could either stop her and resist this growth or I could just enjoy the journey. Guess which path works out better? In today’s episode, I am talking about accepting that our kids are going to grow up. I discuss how we as parents need to give them space and guidance as they test their boundaries, know that our job description changes as our kids change, and accept that our kids are going to make mistakes but we have to let them know we are going to be there for them no matter what. In this episode, we cover: * Our kids are growing into their own skin [2:14] * As parents, we need to give our kids grace and space [5:35] * Kids are testing their boundaries, you have to guide them but allow them to also make their own choice [10:58] * At the end of the day, kids are going to do what they want [16:06] * The job description of mom changes as the kid changes kids [20:28] * You have to adjust your parenting rules and have that ongoing discussion [29:25] * We need to support our kids and know they are trying their best [34:04] * Your kids are going to mess up and that’s okay [39:19]

Listen up mama’s because we’re covering something that a lot of us feel ashamed to talk about, but I will tell you right now I'm going through this exact experience as we speak. So I was happy to know that you also wanted to talk about this and hear about this because in today’s episode I am talking about dealing with unwanted behaviors from our kids. Anything that you want to make happen in your life is a choice. You can choose to take the trip, you can choose to stay home, you can choose to attend the party and accept the invitation, you can choose to say no, you can choose to adopt a new habit, or you can choose to stay exactly where you are. It goes the same for everything and anything in life. Where you are right now at this exact moment is a combination of your upbringing, the things that happen that you have no control over, and the choices that you've made. Essentially any new habits, any new choices, and any new changes that you want to make are possible but you have to make space for it. In today’s episode, I want to share why I believe we all have choices, even as mamas, and more specifically I want to talk about my own choices! I discuss how all your choices have a ripple effect, how I decided to show up in the world on my own terms and conditions, why striking a balance was so important to me and why I was the best investment I could make for myself. In this episode, we cover: * Your choices have lead you to where you are today [3:12] * All your choices have a ripple effect [8:15] * I am just a regular mama (trust me) [12:14] * My working and academic background, and the desire to strike a balance [17:58] * I chose to invest in my potential [25:15] * Why not waiting was the best thing to do [32:02] * Reconnecting with myself allowed me to show up for others [39:43]

In today’s episode, I talk about the adjustment period that happens right before something new takes place in your life. What is the rush? I'm serious. Why are you rushing today and where are you rushing to? Even if you're listening to this podcast right now, I know you're probably doing one, two, maybe three other things at the same time. I see you, Mama, you know why? I am the exact same way. I'm always rushing minute to minute to minute, but I want to ask us why. What's the rush? We're not on some deadline and there's nobody clocking us or keeping scorekeeping pace, right. Really the only race we’re in is the one against ourselves and let me tell you, this race is not worth it. In today’s episode, I talk about how this personal rat race is not going to benefit us in the long run. I speak on why doing a million things at once actually puts you at risk for not being a safe mom, rethinking what busy actually looks like, you actually have more control over your time than you think and why joyful should be the default not stressful. In this episode, we cover: * What are we rushing for? [2:10] * A rushed mom is not a safe mom or a sane mom [7:56] * Rethinking what busy, rushed, and accomplished looks like [12:59] * We do have more control over the moments in our day than we want to admit to ourselves. [21:25] * Making each moment connected, present and thoughtful [30:59] * Break the either-or mentality in your head [38:01]

It can be easy to push aside our thoughts and table them for another day. Better yet as a mom we can completely ignore them and pretend they don’t exist right? Wrong. Because while it may seem easy at first, sooner or later those emotions are going to catch up to you, and you're going to have to have an honest conversation about them and your feelings. In today’s episode, I talk about how we can use every single feeling that we have running through us to help us in everything that we are doing. I share why it’s time to make sure that joy calls shotgun - that means joy comes first! I speak on why our emotions all have a positive purpose, the mindset you need to adopt when it comes to emotions and how our joy makes us a better parents to our kids. In this episode, we cover: * Joy calls shotgun! [4:11] (quote by @lenahaill) * When we open up our eyes and ears to our feelings, we learn a whole lot about ourselves [8:26] * How to shift our mindset when it comes to analyzing our emotions [15:12] * When we dial up our joy, we can dial up our kids joy and this is how you can do it [19:41] * The thoughts that you have on repeat are just habits, they are not the truth [24:44] * Our desires keep us alive! [29:32]

Being a mom does not require your ego. What is actually required is your heart. As a parent, it is our love, our loyalty, our support, our trust, and our confidence in our kiddos that matters most. Raising children is about reminding them that we think they're phenomenal - that is what we owe them and nothing else. When we allow ego to be an influence on how we're parenting, we focus less on helping them become the best version of them and instead prioritize them being a mini version of us- and let me tell you, that doesn't ever work out. In today’s episode, I talk about ego and what ego does when we're trying to raise our kids. The mom + ego + raising kids is an equation we must discuss, and we have to pay attention to it. I discuss why your kids have their own identities, why your job is to trust them so they can learn to trust themselves, and how you can actually learn a lot from your kids when you let your ego go. In this episode, we cover: * Ego has no place in the parenting equation [0:53] * Our kids are forming their own identity that started the moment they were born [6:51] * Your job is to appreciate and support your kids [11:47] * What your kids don’t need and what you’re doing wrong when you’re parenting [20:24] * When you trust your kids, they learn to trust themselves [29:06] * Cultivate a space for your kids to let their own dreams and curiosities shine [36:20] * What would happen if you stepped back a bit from hands-on parenting? I have attempted meditation a few times before in my life, but I always ended up quitting because honestly, I wasn't really ready and open to it, so it was hard to commit, making quitting was easy. I have embarked on this rinse and repeat cycle for many things, because I just never felt ready to commit to anything more and I have naturally felt the burden of life's stresses that have impacted my own energy. But now, I have reached a point in my life where things like mediation matter to me, therefore I'm making time for it. In today’s episode, I discuss why we make time for what matters to us, but it’s just about figuring out what that thing is. I speak on my experience with meditation and how it has transformed my life. Stress can never go away but you can create habits that bring you joy and a sense of feeling centered and why you need to exercise your habit muscles! In this episode, we cover: * We make time for what matters for us, and how mediation has changed my life [2:41] * You can’t completely avoid stress but you can practice habits that help you recover from stress [8:32] * Judgment, finger pointing, and online trolls have their impact [14:11] * Kindness meditation has transformed my life and it’ll transform yours [21:02] * We have become so comfortable with stress that it is now part of our identity as a mom [28:01] * You deserve an environment of peace and so do your children [35:51]

When was the last time you stopped to consider your own needs without worrying about someone else? I bet I know the answer, and it's precisely why I'm sitting here on the floor in my makeshift podcast studio to talk about this important subject. As a mom, it can be hard to even consider putting your needs first because it almost sounds selfish, but I want to change this mindset in you and me (because I struggle with it too). In today’s episode, I’m sharing the reasons why you need to take a moment to put yourself first. I explain how when you neglect your own needs you’re sending a signal that you value yourself less, and why if you don’t share what you’re feeling no one is going to understand because they cannot read your mind. Being a selfish mom is the best thing you can do for yourself and your kids to be the best mom ever, and in this episode, I explain why it matters and what you can do! In this episode, we cover: * When was the last time you put yourself first? [0:50] * Neglecting your needs means you value yourself less, but self-love is rewarding [4:42] * It’s okay if you don’t know what to do with your free time it takes time to get comfortable with relearning what you love [13:45] * The day you become a selfish mom is the day you become a better mom. Here’s what you need to do [22:56] * Feeling sorry for yourself isn’t the best way to get the attention and validation you seek [31:29] * If you don't share what you're feeling, no one will understand they cannot read your mind [38:44]

It’s second nature to apologize, whether we bump into someone on the street or we hurt a loved one unintentionally. As women especially we tend to say sorry more than our male counterparts, in fact, according to a psychological study conducted in 2011, women apologize more than men only because what men consider as “offensive” varies drastically from women. In other words, we as women feel the need to apologize for every little thing because we think we owe an apology, not necessarily because we want to apologize. In today’s episode, I’m sharing the reasons why you need to stop needlessly apologizing. Listen a genuine apology is important and necessary, but it’s when it becomes part of your daily vocabulary that it needs to change. I explain what got me thinking about this “sorry” phenomenon, especially as moms, why you don’t always need to say sorry, and how as mom’s we feel the need to tread lightly and deflect tension by just saying sorry. I get real in this podcast and you know what? Sorry, not sorry! In this episode, we cover: * Sorry is just part of our vocab but you don’t need to apologize [1:03] * Mom’s apologize for things that we want when we should accept that we want and need things [7:39] * It can be annoying when you say sorry too much [15:59] * Do you know when you need to apologize? [21:28] * Over apologizing is an act of self-sabotage and justifies our limiting beliefs [28:24] * Be self-aware of when you’re apologizing [35:22]

In today’s episode, I’m sharing all the ways we can beat the holiday stress, be excellent moms and still make time for our own needs and desires. While you might feel like stress is just part of the package, in reality, it does not help at all. What stress ultimately ends up doing is working against us rather than working with us. Mistakes make us human, right? Yet for some reason, it seems much worse when our kids make a mistake, maybe because we think their mistakes are a reflection of our parenting. Kids are just like us, they're humans and they're trying to see what works in this crazy life that they're living. They're trying to figure out what doesn't feel good and what does feel good. As a mom It's okay to not think that your kids are acting perfectly all the time because you know they are human, they have mood swings, and they are unpredictable. In today’s episode, I’m talking about how to handle your children’s mistakes, especially when they messed up big time. I discuss how the best thing you can do for your child (even when they mess up), is to help them process the new emotions they are experiencing. In this episode, we cover: * All the emotions you feel when your kid messes up are the same emotions they will feel [2:57] * The new emotions kids will experience as they grow up can be difficult. As a mom you can help them process their emotions. [8:08] * Society’s many labels for kids - are they helpful or problematic? [19:32] * Being responsive to the situation not reactive when it comes to meltdowns and tantrums [28:30] * Pick your battles and choose what is really important to hold them accountable [34:01]

The holidays are coming, and while it is supposed to be a joyful time of year, it is also that time of year that is the most stressful. Planning for the holidays means you have to factor in all your mom duties and add all the holiday duties on top of it. While you may be a supermom, it’s pretty easy to lose your cool and freak out during this time of year (we’ve all been there). In today’s episode, I’m talking about how to keep your cool and not lose your mind during the holiday season, and during all the other times of the year. I share why mom rage happens and how to set boundaries and voice what you need to feel supported. There’s no shame in losing your cool but there are better ways of handling it so that everyone feels heard, supported and loved. In this episode, we cover: * How to deal with triggers, not feel attacked and not lose your cool during some challenging moments. Why does mom rage happen? [3:53] * Acknowledging mom rage means that you’re able to handle it better the next time a situation arises [13:10] * Take care of yourself by setting boundaries that prioritize yourself and your own care [18:36] * How to prioritize self care when you feel there aren’t enough minutes in the day [22:46] * Setting boundaries and expectations for the whole family to ensure the whole environment is healthy and moves smoothly [29:31] * Try to see and hear yourself from the perspective of your kids. Are you effectively communicating how you truly feel so that you are able to understand each other? [33:16]

Have you ever found yourself wishing that the universe would stop having it out for you, and would start working with you? What happens if I told you that this wishful thinking isn't going to solve anything. Instead, you need to understand that life happens through you, not to you. Let that phrase sink in for a moment. What happens when you take the time to fully understand that? Because what this phrase really means is life is happening in response to you, because of you. When you make that little word switch you shift from having a victim’s mindset to one where you understand that you have control over most of the situations in your life. In today’s episode, I’m talking about why having a victim’s mindset when it comes to life is not going to serve you. When you have a victim mentality, you feel that things are happening to you, no matter what you do and the universe is literally purposely working against you, when in reality that is not true! I share how you can overcome this mindset, deal with rejection, and how your approach to life impacts your children’s behavior and mindset. In this episode, we cover: * Life is happening through you, not to you [1:36] * Why seeking outward validation won’t help to deal with rejection, and what you should really do instead [6:11] * How the victim mentality mindset can impact your kids [11:07] * It is important to let go of this notion of perfection in all aspects of your life, including motherhood [23:25] * All the decisions that you make, the actions you take, the behaviors you mimic, the beliefs you hold on to are all causing the life you’re experiencing at this moment [28:55] * It’s time to imagine yourself in a world where you are enough and you are capable [35:59]

There’s no such thing as perfect, so why do we constantly feel like it’s something we need to strive for and achieve? It’s almost insidious how we believe we have to be perfect, and as mom’s that pressure only doubles. But let’s be real, especially as we move into the holiday season, can you actually be the perfect supermom? I am sorry to break it to you, mama, it just ain’t possible. In today’s episode, I’m talking about why perfection ain’t going to happen so you have to stop trying. That doesn’t mean giving up altogether, it just means you need to give yourself some grace and space! I cover how you stop celebrating the unique gifts you have, you forget your own superpowers and wins, and how you’ll always be in a state of comparison if you continue to aim for perfection. This time around, instead of aiming for perfection, ask yourself how you can show up for others and for your own self in the most authentic manner possible. Remember the world needs your uniqueness and your specialness! In this episode, we cover: * It’s time to admit it - perfection is not possible and the more you aim for it, you start to miss out on the unique gifts you have within [1:25] * Perfectionism prevents us from showing up as our most authentic selves [4:58] * If your goal is perfection you are setting yourself up for failure [9:32] * Downplaying our accomplishments because they don’t feel “special” or “unique ”[13:08] * Strive for excellence, not perfection. Excellence gives your permission to stay curious, to evolve, and to be okay with failure - even when it comes to motherhood [17:46] * As a mom when you allow room for error, you are teaching your children that they can make mistakes as well. Being perfect robs us of so many things and holds us back from achieving more [26:01] * How to start moving forward away from the perfectionist narrative [31:03]

In hindsight, you overbooked yourself but you didn’t want to miss out but now you’re mentally rearranging your calendar to make things work. I hear you mama, FOMO is real, and it’s not new - whether you’re a mom or not as humans it is totally normal to feel jealous, envious, or even fearful of not being part of a social message. In today’s episode, I’m talking about FOMO - fear of missing out. What is it, where does it stem from and why do we constantly feel like if we say no or if we opt out we’re going to miss out on some life-changing event or not be like other moms? I cover how these perceptions can lead to thoughts of uneasiness and stress which in the long term won’t benefit you. As moms we already go through so much, we don’t need to fall for these false beliefs that we are missing out on anything. In this episode, we cover: * What is FOMO and why does it stress you out so much? [1:24] * Jealousy comes from feeling unsafe, insecure and rejected [5:07] * Social media is fuel to the FOMO fire - what impact does it have on moms? However, she explains how she realized self-care should not be an occasional indulgence but a lifestyle we practice and what she’s doing to bring it back (0:47) * The importance of working out on our mental health and cognitive capacities. You might not think this, but Elle Woods is the perfect example of living happily, confidently, and unapologetically. (4:11) * How Scottie used to be a long-distance runner and how this cathartic act made her feel. While she is unable to do it now, she shares ways she finds a physical connection with herself and why it’s important not only for yourself but as a mom as well (8:41) * Why exercise should be as common and habitual in your life as brushing your teeth. As a mom, it feels easier to find valid excuses to not work out, but it shouldn’t be an excuse to avoid self-care altogether (13:22) * You can find the many mom reasons to not work out, but Scottie reminds you why you have to start appreciating and taking care of the body you have now. Prioritizing your physical health is a non-negotiable (19:12) * Setting up a physical health routine is the best way to set a great example for your own family and kids. It demonstrates that you have boundaries and respect for yourself and in turn, they realize that they to can have their own boundaries and care for themselves. This creates an environment of mutual respect where everyone is happy and healthy (23:40) * Life is too short, you are too much in demand and you are too special to be living unhealthily. You need to take back your life, stop projecting, and stop blaming others for you not making yourself a real priority. There is so much benefit to working out and prioritizing self care (28:33)

In this episode you’ll hear: * Scottie talks about something near and dear to her heart - the incredible moms out there that function on autopilot. Speaking from experience Scottie shares how this “badge of exhaustion” is not something to brag about and why we need to rethink this approach. Boasting about who is more tired, exhausted, and busy isn’t really the type of competition you want to be part of, but why do we feel the need to compete? (1:28) * You cannot be a functional human being, let alone a good mom, on lack of sleep. Scottie talks about how things like technology, constant streaming and even being “on” and available 24/7 is what is leading to this epidemic of sleep deprivation (5:35) * Competing with our friends is a major reason why we, as moms, tend to overschedule ourselves with the mindset that we are living fulfilled lives (10:26) * As new moms, and even as experienced moms, we throw things to the wall hoping that they stick but completely overlooking how anything affects us emotionally or physically. Scottie shares a personal anecdote of being a new mom and being told when things would be “worth it” (15:35) * Instead of trying to prove to somebody that you're a great mom because of how tired you are, we should be figuring out how can we still crush motherhood thing and take care of ourselves at the same time (19:54) * You can choose to change your life, readjust your schedule, and prioritize sleep because it is a basic life necessity. Scottie shares why this lifestyle change is imperative to not only being a good mom but a healthy and happy person. She explains why sleep deprivation is more dangerous than we think (23:29)
