Being extraordinary is not a single element. It cannot be distilled down to one thing. However, we’re told that being a success is a magical thing that happens and a place that we’ll arrive. The hard part is that this long held truth is the biggest lie.
The fact is that the path that so many follow, the one society sells us on, will not lead to the promised land. The truth is, the route we’re all told to take may actually stick us in purgatory, without Dante or Virgil to guide us.
Extraordinary features interviews with extraordinary humans with some context as to why I find them so.
General David Petraeus is a retired Four Star United States Army General and public official. He served as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from September 6, 2011, until his resignation on November 9, 2012.
Prior to his assuming the directorship of the CIA, Petraeus served 37 years in the United States Army. His last assignments in the Army were as commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander, U.S. Forces – Afghanistan (USFOR-A) from July 4, 2010, to July 18, 2011.
His other four-star assignments include serving as the 10th Commander, U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) from October 13, 2008, to June 30, 2010, and as Commanding General, Multi-National Force – Iraq (MNF-I) from February 10, 2007, to September 16, 2008. As commander of MNF-I, Petraeus oversaw all coalition forces in Iraq.

Jonathan Goldsmith is an actor who began his career on the New York stage, then started a career in film and television. He appeared in several TV shows from the 1960s to the 1990s.
Before becoming the Most Interesting Man in the World, Jonathan worked as a garbage collector, crashed in bug-infested apartments, and snuck into strangers’ bar mitzvahs for free food. He appeared in hundreds of plays, movies, and TV shows, including Dallas, Gunsmoke, and the Clint Eastwood film Hang ’Em High (1968). After he retired from his showbiz career, he found success in a network marketing company for waterless car-wash products – but after his business partnership went bad, he lost it all.
It was that loss that pushed him back to Hollywood and helped him to find his defining role as “The Most Interesting Man in the World.”
Jonathan has been an advocate for landmine victim support and has assisted the Morris Animal Foundation in their efforts to prevent and cure cancer in dogs. He also supported the S.A.B.R.E Foundation, Free Arts for Abused Children, which pairs artists with children in protective custody, and the Stella Link Foundation, a group calling attention to child sex trafficking in Cambodia. For Jonathan, a large part of his life is about giving back.

The thing that I find Extraordinary about Helio Castroneves is not just that he's won the Indianapolis 500 three times, but its that during the most difficult year of his life, 2009, he won the race a third time. He blocked out the noise and showed up to win.
Helio Castroneves is a legend in the Open Wheel Racing World, winning the Indianapolis 500 three times, making him one of only 9 drivers to win the prestigious race 3 times; only 3 individuals have won the race 4 times.
He has raced in 327 career starts with 29 wins in the past 19 seasons.
The Brazillian born star has also graced the stage of Dancing with the Stars.
