In the latest episode of the УКанаді "In Canada" Podcast, Anastasiia and Davyd share their experiences of entering the Manitoba market with the production and sale of Korean salads, a food they often ate back home in Ukraine.
How can a person make a difference in the world? Ryan Keeping, a 27-year-old from Halifax, has been running across Canada to find that answer. Starting on April 1st from St. Johns, Newfoundland, Ryan aims to cover 7,386 km in 99 days, running 75 km daily to raise funds for the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.

One of the big changes was the use of planes for transportation. However, Peet says the Inuit only travelled by plane for emergencies. She remembers her first plane ride, flying to a hospital for treatment after being diagnosed with tuberculosis.
Although Peet recovered and returned home, some Inuit never returned.

Joy Phillips is from Hollow Water First Nation. Joy, Sherri, and Dave comprise Nagamoodaa, a musical group teaching and learning the Ojibwe language through music. After working at Wanipigow school for one year after obtaining her degree in education, she would later take a language program at Red River College, which became the genesis for Nagamoodaa.
Dave Bird is part of the titular trio that makes up Nagamoodaa, music helping youth learn the Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) language. Dave, wanting to learn more about his language, took part in an Ojbiwe Language program at Red River College, which is where he met the other members of Nagamoodaa.
Isabel Scribe and Lisa Muswagon are members of the Pimicikamak Cree Nation, also known as Cross Lake in Northern Manitoba. Isabel is a fluent speaker of the Swampy Cree language, and Lisa is on the path of breaking cycles and learning Cree to teach it to the next generation.

She has been an urbanized Indigenous person for about 25 years. In that time, she has been able to learn and understand Indigenous cultures from many different perspectives and respectfully utilizes and shares what she has learned.

Chance Paupanakis is a proud Swampy Cree Two Spirit person from the Kinosew Sipi Cree Nation in Treaty 5 territory. He has worked in the Indigenous cultural and language revitalization sector for almost five years. Other areas of activism he focuses on are Two Spirit resurgence, land & water preservation and MMIWG2S advocacy. Chance is passionate about working towards a better and brighter future for First Nation peoples.
Cameron Adams is a 5th-year Integrated Education student in the Faculty of Education at the University of Winnipeg. Cameron is ininiw-Anishinaabe and French-Canadian with Scottish and English ancestry from Gimli, Manitoba and Treaty from Memewiziibiing (Berens River), situated in Treaty 5 Territory. For the last decade, Cameron has been learning about his ancestral routes. He developed a passion for learning nēhinawēwin in high school after meeting an Elder, Florence Paynter, who shared their story in Indian Residential School. It was there that Cameron asked his Great-Grandmother what Indigenous language she spoke, and he found out it was ininīmowin (Swampy Cree) from kinosēw sīpīhk (Norway House, MB).
Geraldine “Gramma” Shingoose is a residential school survivor who attended Muscowequan residential school from 1962 to 1971. Gramma Shingoose shares her story with schools and universities, highlighting her cherished memories of before Muscowequan residential school, her life during school, and its impacts on her life once she left.

Culture is an important aspect of any community. However, culture can easily be lost if not actively cherished and cared for. In Winnipeg, immigrants have created associations and organizations that celebrate cultural diversity, creating areas of unique cultural expression and feeling.

Friday, June 02, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilivre, and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh travelled to Winnipeg to support their candidates running in the Federal 2023 By-Eleciton.
The by-election will be held on June 19, 2023, and includes two ridings in Manitoba, Winnipeg South Centre and Portage-Lisgar.
While in Winnipeg, Poilivre held a press conference to speak about the carbon tax and plans to counter crime rates in Winnipeg. U Multicultural spoke with Poilievre to learn more about his party's policies and platform.

Pride in Manitoba has come a long way since the first Pride protest in 1987. Although Pride has become a regular event in Winnipeg, many rural Manitoba communities are celebrating for the first time. In 2019, Pembina Valley Pride held its first event in Morden. For 2SLGBTQ+ individuals living in rural areas, rural Pride events are a chance to see you're not the only one who feels the way you do.

You may have witnessed an interesting procession in Winnipeg's North End this past weekend. This was a procession for Santo Cristo and the first time the Winnipeg Portuguese Community has been able to hold it since the COVID-19 pandemic. With over 80 percent of Portugal identifying as Roman Catholic, traditions such as Santo Cristo and The Miracle of Fátima are significant to their culture.

Anti-Racism is the active practice of opposing racism and promoting racial equality. Although sometimes it feels like racism is a thing of the past, unfortunately, there is still systemic and overt racism in our communities. In response to newcomer communities' experiences of racism in sports groups, the Anti-Racism in Sport Campaign was started.

Sexual violence is an unfortunate reality for many. In Canada, sexual assault victimization was more than five times higher among women than men (Statistics Canada, 2021). Of Self-reported sexual assaults, nearly half (47%) were committed against women aged 15 to 24. Winnipeg-based filmmaker Danielle Sturk addresses this grim reality in her new film Why? Sexual Violence and Teens. The film follows young men who share their observations on male culture and society and young women survivors of sexual assault.

One Winnipegger has made it his goal to showcase content important to his community. Noticing a lack of representation here in Canada, Solomon Baleke created Winnipeg Swahili TV. For the past three years, he's been doing what he can to feature content in the language of more than 200 million speakers worldwide.

January 13-15, people worldwide don black shirts to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy. Last year, over 130,000 participated in #BlackShirtDay, and Anti-Racism Coalition Vancouver is excited to engage with even more.

Cameron Robertson is a Cree speaker who values all indigenous languages. His goals are to teach his culture's words and language through the human spirit of storytelling. Before he was eight, he lived with his grandfather, a trapper, near Norway House.
We talked about Cam's dream to bring back his language, community, media and how he became a writer.
Lisa Muswagon is a Nakoda Cree member of the Pimicikamak Cree Nation, also known as Cross Lake in Northern Manitoba. She was raised in the north, the Interlake Region and Winnipeg and went back to her home community to complete high school. Receiving a hand drum from her father when she was young, she has been performing ever since.
Hellnback is also known as Karmen Omeasoo and is from the Samson Cree Nation in Alberta. The community is part of the hub of Maskwacis Cree Nation south of Edmonton. A veteran in the native hip-hop industry, Omeasoo has come a long way. Hellnback first gained international recognition as a founding member of the groundbreaking group War Party.

On Sunday, July 4, 17-year-old Jaden Charles John Oman was murdered in an assault, allegedly at the hands of his best friend. Jaden was rushed to hospital early that Sunday morning but succumbed to his injuries five days before his 18th birthday and dreams of going to school.
Family and friends gathered in front of an Assiniboine Avenue apartment building near Hargrave Street, where Jaden Oman was killed, to hold a candle vigil in his honour, to mourn together and cherish his life. Jaden was later brought to Churchill to be buried by his sister.
I believe science is one of the coolest things ever, and it's incredibly inspiring to see people enter STEM fields. However, there can often be a challenge for the general public to interpret and understand the in-depth work scientists go through.
Dr. Cody Lo is an Ophthalmology Resident Physician at The Ottawa Hospital. Cody obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Bachelor's of Science (BSc), majoring in Pharmacology from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver and graduated as a Wesbrook scholar. Cody and I discuss his passion for scientific research, advocating against health inequities, and helping mentor the next generation of leaders in his community.

In Canada, 94% of Kinesiology and Physical Education university faculties are white. As of September 2020, only 5.7% of NHL players identified as Indigenous, Black, or part of a Racialized community. How can sports be an equal playing field when we see statistics like this.
The Anti-Racism in Sport Campaign seeks to increase, promote, and engage in discussions on anti-racism in sport about the presence of all levels of racism in sport in Winnipeg. It also looks at the impact of racism on people’s lives, raises awareness, addresses, and eliminates racism and discrimination experienced by First Nations, Metis, Inuit, Black, Racialized, and Religious Minority communities in sport.

It feels immoral to celebrate and have fireworks when a majority of your neighbours are holding a funeral for 1,323 undocumented First Nation's children, especially when the numbers of these horrific discoveries continue to climb rapidly. July 1, on Portage & Main at 1 pm, three individuals are inviting the Winnipeg community not to celebrate the country that tried to remove its Indigenous People but to join together for an Every Child Matters Walk. The mission is to increase awareness of what has and is happening to Indigenous communities and identify the children buried at residential schools, bringing them home, and giving a safe space for survivors. Their truths deserve to be amplified and validated after being silenced for so long.

Over the pandemic's duration, we've seen multiple human rights violations. Discrimination and racism have surfaced, but many communities have come together to stand against hatred. There was the Black Lives Matter movement after George Floyd's death, rallies have begun to stand against the increase of anti-Asian racism.
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights tells the stories of human tragedy and triumph, bringing the conversation of humanity's rights to the forefront.

Laura Castillo was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her parents were political refugees who fled the dictatorship in Chile. Laura's family would then move back to Chile when she was 12.
The experiences of her parents and her own living in Chile inspired Laura to dedicate herself to teaching. She is an EAL/ESL teacher and launched online classes through BRIDGES English Language School.

That's what Sweta Rajan experienced when working in the United States. After moving to Canada and into more senior roles at businesses, she created spaces where diverse voices are valued equally.
