I will cover tips about hair, make-up and costumes and how to make sure all of your dancers look their best! I mentioned this on my last episode and want to add this again, I know the topic of race can be awkward, but it will continue to be awkward until we discuss it and normalize extending grace when we do discuss. I do not claim to know it all or to have all of the answers, but I am drawing from my real life experience so I hope that you can sense my heart behind every word that I speak. Pre:
- Show excitement for your dancer getting to share their gift in dance!
- Help your dancer set goals for each dance they'll be performing at competition.
- Bonus- Be mindful of the energy you bring and the words you speak before competition.
During:
- Affirm your dancer before each dance.
- Focus on the fun! Remind them that this is an opportunity to share their gift!
- Bonus- Give grace to everyone during competition, including yourself!
Post:
- Celebrate your dancer for their performance at competition, regardless of how they place.
- Encourage your dancer to be gracious to their teachers, studio owners, and to also take competition critiques without offense, but instead to help them grow.
- As a dance parent, you have the power to set the tone for how the competition experience goes, so do so with love, excitement, and grace!
