Description: Are you a business or government leader who wants straightforward, trustworthy financial guidance that you can act on? Do you find yourself asking: -> How do I invest? -> How do I reduce taxes? -> What financial information can I trust? -> I have a ton of education… so why is managing my money still SO confusing? …or maybe even the biggest question of them all: Am I making smart financial decisions today? Are there things I should be doing with my money that I’m not doing? [insert cringing emoji]

We get it!

Knowing how to manage your money during your highest-earning years is HARD. It can feel like you need to go back to school and get a degree in personal finance in addition to everything else on your plate.

If this is you, then you’re in the right place. Whether you’re a business leader, government leader or an engineer or developer, this is the show for you.

On this podcast, we’re going to cover the three things you need know to make smart financial decisions: 1) Financial acumen (think of this as the 101 AND the 102 course on your money) 2) The right money mindset, which leads to smarter decisions 3) Current financial and market news you need to know and act on

Hi, I’m Brian and helping you make smart financial decisions is my passion. I started my career more than a decade ago serving wealthy families and non-profits at one of the largest asset managers in the world. Along the way, I earned an MBA from Emory University, earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and became an investor myself. I started Capital Stewards to help professionals become successful investors and live life fully. Most importantly, I’m still married to my college sweetheart and we have three amazing kids.

I want you to know that you CAN make smart financial decisions without spending every minute of your free time researching on the internet. You might even just find that your drive to work (or your daily walk around the neighborhood) got more valuable while you listen. We’re here for you.

There are a lot of questions on the minds of investors. Usually after a big market gains like we experienced over the summer, everyone is happy and thinks things are going great. But I hear a lot of concerns from folks on a regular basis this time around. I think that’s warranted because we are living in a world with two different economies running simultaneously. One is in a recession. The other is partying like it’s 1999. How we invest wisely based on what’s really happening is going to be very important over the next few months and into 2026.

In this outlook, we’re going to talk about the gains we have seen so far this year and whether we are in a market bubble. I’m also going to help you resolve the difference between your feelings about the economy and what you are seeing in your portfolio – because what you feel may not be what you’re experiencing in your investments. As always, I will share my views on the stock market, interest rates, the Fed, inflation, real estate and other assets like Gold.

Are we in a stock market bubble? The market certainly “feels” overvalued relative to our experiences in the economy day in and day out. The phrase "stock market bubble" is in the media a lot and many of our clients and friends have asked me the magic question – are we in a stock market bubble? Is this irrational exuberance or is it rational growth? So on this episode we will talk about where things stand relative to past bubbles, and I’ll answer the questions no one seems to want to answer on the record – are we in a bubble?

Trump’s trade policy has been sort of like a summer road trip. We started off at home in April, ventured to an unknown and uncertain land, and now we have returned home, at least mostly. I wanted to share a few thoughts on the economy and markets since our last update happened right on the heels of “liberation day” and we have now journeyed quite a ways in a short period of time.

You are likely to experience significant investment losses. If you are under 40, you will probably experience that kind of significant loss more than once. If you are older, you have likely already experienced it.

There are a multitude of risks today. Inflation, geopolitics, technology disruption, high valuations, population and immigration changes and the list goes on.

So how do we think about risk as investors? In this episode I wanted to talk about real risk – what that is, how we measure it and most importantly what we do about it with clients.

Is inflation on the rise again? According to the Federal Reserve it may be.

Will we have a recession in 2025….or ever?

Are stocks overvalued after 2 years of strong returns?

Will the largest technology stocks just keep rolling or is it time for other areas of the market to play a bigger role?

What about bonds? Why bother with bonds if they have such low returns?

These are just a few of the questions investors are asking as we head into 2025. In Capital Stewards's Economic and Investment Outlook for 2025, I share my views in detail and back it all up with lots of charts and illustrations.

Understanding how difficult it is to predict the market has significant implications for how investors should build portfolios. I also discuss how to invest if you can't be right about the future all the time.

This episode covers common myths and misconceptions about alternatives. What are alternative investments? Are private – or alternative – assets just for the ultra-wealthy? What is (or is not) the secret sauce of private managers that drives the high returns you see in the media? How should you think about private assets in your portfolio?

1:54 - Myth 1 - Private Assets are only for the very wealthy and not for me.

7:32 - Myth 4 - Private Equity Funds borrow and lay-off lots of workers. They are just corporate raiders.

9:35 - Myth 5 - Private Debt has grown too fast and is the next Financial Crisis waiting to happen.

13:34 - Myth 6 - Some real estate developers and owners are struggling, now is a great time to try to get a deal by investing in a privately held REIT or fund.

15:59 - Myth 7 - All alternatives are designed to provide higher returns than public securities.

17:22 - Myth 8 - Alternatives are all the rage, so the fund I’m being sold should work out ok.

18:38 - Myth 9 - All private fund managers are created the same.

Episode 2 in our 3 part series on generational wealth. We discuss one of the top concerns for families: how not to spoil your children and grandchildren. These concepts apply to everyone with kids!

  1. Engaging the next generation in decision making while they are kids!
  2. Getting involved in philanthropy together
  3. Involving your children in investment, tax and wealth planning discussions in their 30s (or sooner!)
  4. Demonstrating how your values impact business and family decision making

Successful investors apply wisdom and discipline over long periods of time. In this episode we discuss 4 principles, backed by history, that every investor should employ to be successful. Now there are no more secrets :). They are: 1) Goals and objectives form the foundation of investment decisions. The best investors in the world all have specific objectives they use to build their portfolios. 2) The goal is to grow your assets responsibly over the long-term, not to “beat the market” short-term. 3) Get the big picture right: Asset Allocation 4) Taxes and fees matter Resources: Want to Talk Live ?->https://www.thecapitalstewards.com/contact (https://www.thecapitalstewards.com/contact) Learn More About Us -> https://www.thecapitalstewards.com/aboutus (https://www.thecapitalstewards.com/aboutus)
