If you've ever customized offers for clients only to have them ghost you or say your prices are too high, you're not alone. Many photographers fall into this trap because we want to please everyone and avoid saying no. But constantly adjusting your pricing and packages can waste valuable time and dilute your efforts.
The key to a sustainable, successful photography business is to streamline your offerings in a way that aligns with your ideal client’s needs. Here’s how to do it.

Documentary photography is about capturing life as it truly unfolds—unscripted, unpolished, and beautifully authentic. It’s a storytelling approach that focuses on real emotions, genuine connections, and the raw beauty of everyday moments. Unlike traditional photography styles, it avoids posed perfection, instead embracing the chaos, tenderness, and nuances that make each story unique. For photographers, documentary work is an opportunity to preserve memories that feel honest and timeless, reflecting the heart of the people and relationships they capture.

How to stand out from the crowd, so you get booked?
If you’re just one of too many, it can be really hard to stand out. And the chances are high that price plays a huge part in getting chosen.
Instead of competing only by the price, show your personality and your values. You’re more likely to get booked because of that. And you can charge more because you’re unique, instead of just another one. So booking more can look like more shoots, for more money or more of the right people.
When you’re showing up as yourself, you’ll start to attract Better clients. And by better, I mean people that are more like you. One photographer's dream client is another photographer’s nightmare, which is SO great. There are right people out there for YOU - you just have to dare to show up as yourself instead of hiding away or trying to be someone you’re not.
The most unique thing about you could be what you’re most afraid of showing - which might be the things your right clients would love the most.
Check out the full episode to learn more about how you can stand out to get more of your dream clients by showing YOUR personality and magic!

As photographers, we often deal with clients who are interested in working with us and some can’t afford our services.
So what can you do? There’s nothing we can do about those clients who can’t afford us. There's always gonna be someone who can't afford what you have to offer, but when it comes to those people who do have the money, but choose to prioritize differently, those are the ones that we can do something about because in many cases, they can afford it.
There's no right or wrong here, but oftentimes couples don't see that they have a choice because it's so common to spend the money on the dress, the cake, the sit-down dinner, and the decor, that it doesn't occur to them to prioritize differently.
And it's the same for you as the photographer. In this latest podcast episode, I'll share with you how to invest in your photography business when you can't afford to.

Are you where you want to be with your photography business? Or do you see that there is room for you to grow?
The best way to improve your photography business is --- to invest in it! As in paying money for things that will make your business better by increasing your revenue, saving you time, or just making you enjoy your work more.
When you're considering investing, it's important to think: What can I get from this? How can my business benefit from this? Will it save me time? Will it make me more money? Will it make me enjoy my work more?
Or is it just an expense? Is it just something that I'm not gonna see any results from and that I'm just buying because I think it looked fun or that I wanted it?

In just a few days 2022 is over. For many photographers, the new year is the perfect time to evaluate your business and plan ahead. The winter months are for most photographers considered low season.
This time of year means fewer tasks, colder temperatures, and less light for the majority of us. I occasionally get asked what to do to have a regular stream of work all year round. Most self-employed photographers are accustomed to having seasons with a lot of work and seasons with less.

When I started, I didn’t have any photographer friends. It was hard to get to know anyone, and social media wasn’t a thing like it is now. Moving around doesn’t make starting a business easier, and it certainly doesn’t make creating a network of photographer friends or loyal clients easy.

Marketing is more than using your website or sending out mass e-mails to promote your photography business. Word-of-mouth is also a powerful marketing tool that does wonder with so little cost for you.
An example of word of mouth is when you hear about a product or service from someone who’s telling you as it is. It can be a good or bad thing, and since it’s from a personal perspective, you’ll likely believe it’s real. However, since the message doesn’t come directly from the company, it can be biased against your business or company.

These kinds of customers are endless. And when you start giving in to them, your business gets unhealthy.

How to stand out from the crowd, so you get booked?
If you’re just one of too many, it can be really hard to stand out. And the chances are high that price plays a huge part in getting chosen.
Instead of competing only by the price, show your personality and your values, you’re more likely to get booked because of that.

Why is it a good idea to actually pay for education? And how can you increase your income by investing in education?
These days, many people will think about why they should pay for education if there are so many free online courses. The truth is that you can waste A LOT of time googling until the end of the time, just circling around the same instead of actually having a process and a line of learning.
In this episode, we have a special guest Yvonne van Dalen, a Business Beast and Marketing Strategist and Founder of the Creatives’ Coach Academy, where she helps struggling creatives entrepreneurs and photographers worldwide turn their passion into a profitable business.
Her signature methodhas enabled her to make 6-figures income while working only 10 hours a week, raising two kids, and having survived depression.
What we talk about in this episode:
Two knows more than one, and you don’t have to go it alone. Better yet, by investing in education, you can speed up your business growth and results tremendously and save tons of time, anxiety, and frustration. Investing in your own education is not a selfish act. It is in fact, the opposite: by becoming better in what you do and more focused on what you offer, your clients are better heard, served, and will become your superfans!

Your thoughts and mindset are some of the most important things to make it! Your thoughts and your beliefs determine what choices you make. We have become facts in our minds. But just like fake news can come across as truth, you can have beliefs that you start to think of as facts that you can’t do anything about.
Your mindset can hold you back from success or push you towards it. In this episode, we will talk about how to get rid of negative thoughts and focus on building habits and behaviors that will help move you forward with confidence!

How to build a profitable business?
Being profitable is a key part of having a sustainable business. Common thoughts about increasing profit include selling more and rising prices. Both can be really good, but I want to talk about a couple of other things now in this episode. Paying yourself first and reducing expenses.
Without profit and without paying yourself, you don’t really have a business. I made that BIG mistake in the beginning. Now I made a system, and I’ll know exactly how much I get paid every month. And paying myself is the main priority. I set aside money for taxes, and I focus on spending less.
Listen to the full episode and check out the show notes, where we'll dive into how to adapt that system into your business and improve your financial situation!

How to book more clients by creating an experience?
Taking beautiful photos is not enough to be a successful photographer anymore and you might think that the only solution to get more clients is reducing your prices.
Instead of feeling that lowering your prices to compete for clients is the only way, consider creating an experience for your client. And focus on what you’re offering other than just a nice photo. That way you’re not just selling a nice photo. You’re giving them something MORE.
Imaging a standard photography session. The photography itself, the photos, and everything you do to get the expressions and emotions you’re looking for. You can sell that same photography package as:
