This week, in Part 5 of "Mark: Ministry to the Nations", we talk about how in Jesus’ death, even a Roman centurion recognizes he was the son of God. In his burial, a member of the Sanhedrin recognizes his authority and takes care of his body. And Mark’s version of the resurrection leaves the reader wondering whether the women believe he had really risen. But in his resurrection, Christ was confirming the authority that God had given him.
This week, in Part 4 of "Mark: Ministry to the Nations", we talk about how though Jesus has proven his authority to those around him, they still want him silenced. Judas gives them that opportunity. Judas chose money over Jesus, the Sanhedrin chose power over Jesus, Peter chose his own life over Jesus, and Pilate chose peace over Jesus. Each of them chooses their own path instead of submitting to Jesus’ authority.
This week, in Part 3 of "Mark: Ministry to the Nations", Jesus has three interactions with people who he actually brags about: a scribe, a widow, and a woman with expensive perfume. Each of these seems to grasp certain aspects of the kingdom of God.
This week, in Part 2 of "Mark: Ministry to the Nations", Jesus has at least three interactions in this section in which people are questioning his teaching and trying to trap him. In the midst of it is a condemning parable that would have hit hard on those who were coming after him.
This week, in Part 1 of "Mark: Ministry to the Nations", we will focus on Jesus’ donkey ride into Jerusalem and his cleansing of the temple. Both of them have heavy prophecy-fulfilling overtones! Jesus is claiming to be the King/Priest that Israel needs!
