In this week’s episode I attempt to condense the 4-part conversation on parenting with Papa. It was brilliant to sit with him and learn so much, not just about our family but gaining a better perspective of why he was the kind of father he was. I certainly wanted more growing up but I have a deeper understanding he simply didn’t know how. Let’s give our parents a little break, talk to them and hopefully some of the scars may heal. I also briefly touch on the kind of summer I think I’m going to have with my teenager.I cannot implore you enough to check out Better Parenting Practitioner Britta who I think you’ll all love. Enjoy. In this final part episode, I posed the question of the impact on our mental health from all of that harsh and corporal discipline. To be honest, Papa threw me on this one and I still haven’t gotten my head around it. That is because he had a very different take on it and you’ll see from my reaction, I honestly wasn’t expecting that!! I’m uncertain I can wholeheartedly say I can relate to it but I can understand, accept and learn fromhis lived experience and point of view.✔️ looking at the positives of discipline and its impactShould one hold on to what we may refer to as scars? It’s difficult to contend with when you’re left with scars from some of the discipline but should we hold on to them for life? If we do, should they spur us on, require us o do differently as largely suggested by Papa or hold us back? Are we overthinking mental health and perhaps aiding a generation of cocky, inhumane and indisciplined children? These are just some of the questions I’m left with and had me thinking deeply about lived experiences and parenting. In the next season, we will broach it with an up-and-coming Better Parenting Practitioner whom I think you’ll all love. Enjoy. In this episode Papa and I go into some dreaded stuff:

✔️ the impact of screaming and shouting. Corporal punishment was hurtful and not as helpful as they thought.

✔️ how the short list of professions came about and was furiously protected - back in the day it was doctor, lawyer, engineer and anything else short of these and in this category of professions was a shame to the family. Status and maintaining a family tradition was a strong driver. How has that changed?

Why we should keep today's focus on individual strengths and nurture children to be at their best.

In this episode, I reflect on the last two episodes in conversation with Eyram. The messages and conversations received in the last two weeks around this topic of infertility and IVF have deeply troubled my soul. Women out there are struggling. Don’t do it alone.

I needed that time to reflect, make the ‘altar call’ for other women to share and hope we all find the courage to end the stigma around IVF, keep the faith and hope for that joy in the end.

In this episode, I am joined for the final part of my time with Eyram who shares her lived experience of going through the IVF process. From 22 fertilised eggs to 17, to 4 then 2 viable, her daughter indeed is glory to God. We touch on pain, bedside manners of health professionals and again on the stress and mental agility required to go to the next step of In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).

In this episode, I am joined by Eyram who shares her lived experience of infertility. In her case, she found after trying for a year without success, she had Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). We touch on faith, stigma, moral and financial support from family, and the stress and mental agility required to go to the next step of In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).

We conclude that couples do need to have a conversation about the inability to have children prior to marriage and how they intend to manage that instance. It should be a natural part of today's marriage counselling.

The wedding fanfare is over. I find the next common question is “when are the children coming?”.

  • Is this a valid question?

  • Does society need to alter its notion?

Can we offer a more responsive approach to the question?

Marriage is work and diving straight into having children isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Having the added pressure of this question can pose problems for couples. Let’s explore an idea on how we can support couples better in this goal.

In this final episode of the New Years' Resolution of getting more intentional on relationships, I talk about girlfriends. While reflecting on 2021 I realised how deep the little times we shared being intentional were and I want more. I want to deepen my bond with the Spartans in the coming year. Keeping things simple is important and I can't stress how less is more. No need to overthink nor overdo but getting it just right. Enjoy.

Still on the New Years' Resolution of getting more intentional on relationships. In this episode I look at how to get more intentional with my husband and partner in crazy. I believe in nurturing greatness in relationships and marriage. Listening is an art we need to be patient and humble as women to learn to embrace. Gary Chapman's five love languages have been a part of our relationship for years and it is one of those things I feel one shouldn't underestimate if you want to have a great marriage.

I have watched my husband engage with his mother in a very special way that left him with little regrets when she passed and my father with my grandmother in a way that gave him peace and granted him an ally where he found conflict with mom. Both men were intentional with these women and in turn received great love and respect.

Our men may not wear their emotions on their sleeves like we do, but if we watch, we have so much to emulate and more to give.

It's Season 2!! Welcome back to the show! It's New Year's Eve and as usual we have and are taking stock of the year. Often we tend to very much reflect on all the stones that have been thrown at us and feel thankful for the ability to still be standing. What will you do with these stones in the coming year? I talk about about being intentional with them in the bid for greater thankfulness at the end of 2022. Enjoy!

Following on in the new series, this third episode on "Women in Politics", I take a quick view on the history of women in politics.

  • When did they gain the rights to vote?

  • Allies in achieving these rights and considering taking the role.

  • A world overview of current state of women in politics.

"As of 1 January 2021, the global share of women in national parliaments is 25.5 per cent, a slight increase from 24.9 per cent the year before.

Political will plays a role in advancing gender equality, particularly when it comes to appointing ministers. As a result, some countries saw dramatic increases in their share of women ministers in 2021.

Europe experienced the two biggest jumps in women’s political representation at the executive level in 2021. The share of women in government went from 8 per cent to 43 per cent in Lithuania, and more than doubled in Belgium, from 25 per cent to 57 per cent.

Namibia made the biggest leap forward in Sub-Saharan Africa, increasing its overall share of women ministers from 15 per cent to 39 per cent. Rwanda still leads the region, maintaining the largest share of women ministers at 54.8 per cent as well as topping the global charts again in the share of women parliamentarians.

In the Americas, the newly appointed government in the United States is shaping up to be the most gender-balanced in the country’s history: women in charge of ministerial portfolios rose from 17 per cent in 2020 to 46 per cent in 2021. The clear leader, however, both globally and in the region, is Nicaragua, with 58.82 per cent of ministries led by women."

You'll find traces of the elements of trust, respect and honesty we have talked about. Also the need for mentors, teachers, cheering you on and holding to account. All of the these, we've established are key to maintaining a strong inner circle.

My guests; Selasi Adotevi and Maxine Ansah inspire me so much. They're candid go-getters who don't compromise of some fun too. Life is too short. Selasi shares a success story and we share times from holidaying and investing.

Last week Friday, 9th April 2021 HRH Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh as we all know died. I have been fascinated by him for years and admired him greatly. The man 2 paces behind Her Majesty The Queen or beside her but 2000 ahead and shone like a diamond.

Tomorrow we bid a final farewell and I also remember 3 years on the passing of my sister Jacqui from colorectal cancer.

This follows on from the story that a young boy was sent packing away from secondary school because of his hair. He has dreadlocks, a Rasta, which is not acceptable in public schools because of the rules. The hypocrisy stinks and I try to draw down on different angles of the argument that I can relate to. The GES issued a directive to admit the boy and later withdrew. Let me add that according to new reports Tyrone and his  triplet sisters have had other institutions offer them admission with some going further by offering full scholarships including meals.

It takes one to spark new conversations and to make change. Could this be it?
