Phil Vecchione gets to be Rolling 20s’ very first repeat guest, and this is a great show. We go through the steps of GM prep detailed in his book Never Prepared, but we look at it’s tips from a design standpoint. We go into some Ennies and GenCon talk near the end, as well as our Kickstarter addictions, but the whole conversation is pretty spectacular.

I sit down with the talented Sarah and Jeff Moore of the awesome Gamer Chick web series. I attempt to balance my fanboyness with actual interview questions to really get the message across. You need to see this show! If you’re not convinced by this interview, just check out the first episode and you’ll be hooked.
This episode was recorded before they started, but Sarah has been working recently as a star of new movie called Ingenue. Check the show notes to follow along with the production and release.

I had an awesome conversation with Ron and Veronica Blessing of The Game’s the Thing, Smiling Jack’s Bar and Grill and the new RoleplayDNA! They know a LOT about podcast, to say the least, so I asked them what it takes to get into podcasting. SO many great tips here. Be sure to get a pen and paper and jot down some of the things they say. One of my favorite interviews, because they kind of take it over and I have to do very little.

I have a long talk with Lee Langston (line developer for Interface Zero and long time friend of mine) about what it takes to do a successful playtest. I’ve held on to this episode for a few weeks, so we mention the Mermaid Adventures kickstarter and them starting RoleplayDNA, even though its been out for a bit now, so bare with me on that. It’s a GREAT conversation either way, though. Enjoy!Show Links:

Me and my friend Jerry Grayson, from Khepera Publishing, talk a bit about our games (especially the second edition of Hellas, which is currently being kickstarted), how a game comes to deserve new edition and Prince. It’s a hell of an episode. I hope you all enjoy.

Ever thought of starting your own Kickstarter? This was a great episode with two great guys. I talk with Daniel Solis (who is a kickstarter expert) and Fred Hicks (who just launched his very first Kickstarter to great effect) and we delve into the Kickstarter phenomenon. Now, of course, i have the sniffles and my phone goes off during the interview. Sorry about that. If you can ignore the couple snafus on my part, its one of my favorite episodes to date. Have fun with it! We did.Show Notes:
We’re back with another episode of Rolling 20s! This time, I talk the art of Licensing, Blackmail and awkward moments with Clint Black, Core Rules Brand Manager for Savage Worlds. This episode was a long time coming and makes a great Episode 10. Take a listen.

Happy New Year from Rolling 20s! After the holiday, I bring you an interview I did with Phil Vecchione of Gnome Stew and Engine Publishing in the middle of December 2011. We discuss many different facets of how to keep your blog fresh, organization, and how it can grow into something more. We then go into the awesome books that Engine Publishing has released and what might be coming in the future. Note: There was a strange recording glitch that made Phil sound like he’s in a tunnel. Please forgive this.

An awesome talk with Mark Truman and Marissa Kelly of Magpie Games. We go from talking about their games, specifically the Play’s the Thing, to talking about talking to industry people to everything else under the sun. Some really cool people making some great game in the future.

It’s been a bit since an episode of Rolling 20s. Been catching up on editing/writing and been busy with convention season coming down to a halt now for me. In this episode, Sean Preston of Reality Blurs and I converse about games that share common themes, but are completely different. We share a brain and we talked for about 2 hours after this episode ended. I had to hit stop on the recorder at some point though. Ha!

Had two wonderful conversations with Brian St. Claire-King from Vajra Enterprises. As a small press publisher that has 5 game lines, novels, soundtracks, his own fiction podcast, and 10 years of experience under his belt, he’s the perfect person to provide guidance. We discuss his game lines games, a little bit about design and a lot about publishing.
Enjoy!

If you want to hear me talk about it instead of reading, go the bottom of the post! So, first of all, let me start by saying - it was amazingly fun, but that i am super super tired out by the whole experience. My internal clock was still set to “get up early to make sure my kids don’t trash the house” and so my hours were wonky. I went to bed at about 2am every morning while gone, meaning i was running mostly on adrenalin. That adrenalin came from the fact that this was the first year that Third Eye Games had its own booth! In previous years, I’ve just hung around the Studio2 booth. I considered that my scouting time, going by as many booth as I could and seeing how they did things: how their books were displayed, what their banners looked like, etc. I paid special attention to what they did right AND wrong, and always had in mind how I wanted 3EG’s booth to look.I was lucky this year to have a set of guys to help me run my booth and make [...]
This is a solo episode of me rambling on with thoughts on mechanics. I go into a little bit of the evolution of my own system, the Dynamic Gaming System, and give some advice to future game designers. Hopefully, there are nuggets of wisdom deep within.Show links:

So, here is the first episode of a new podcast series that i’m starting called, Rolling 20s. I know what you’re thinking, “But Eloy? You already have a ton of stuff going on. Why would you put one more thing on your plates while they are spinning and you still have to take those pots off the other backburners?” To be quite honest, 1) i’m a glutton for punishment and 2) I love podcasts. So, here’s the first episode. I hope you like and I am serious when i say that I want your comments and suggestions.Show Notes
