With colleges across the country now concluding their academic years with graduating classes, tonight's episode of Sketch-i-Cast focuses on very recent Ringling College animation graduate, Olivia Coucci.

Tonight's episode is a little different than the usual Sketch-i-Cast installment, as Lanei & Dante of the I'm Totally Doing OK podcast take over the show. In honor of Autism Awareness Month, I decided to interview a close artist mutual I know as far back as college.
In addition to being a pretty solid self employed illustrator and sequential comic artist, Dani Clover-Flick has had quite the interesting background of growing up on the spectrum without realizing it until recently. Yet in spite of being diagnosed later in her life, the knowledge she has gained of the famed developmental disability has only made her grow further into the creatively unique individual she is now.

Created by MICA animation alum CK Korleski, this interview goes into their process behind the video and how much the band and the art of animation means to them. So this episode of Sketch-i-Cast was a little different than the usual interview format.
Instead of interviewing an artist working during this stressful pandemic, me and my partner in crime Luke Perkins decided to share our brief views on the animated films set to be released in the year of 2021. In addition, we also share our views on social media's toxic state on animation and how it's impacted our mindsets on the art form.

Over the last quarter of 2020, my close friend and occasional classmate Titilayo Ogunduyilemi has been working profusely on her final thesis film at the Maryland Institute College of Art. In addition to working on the film myself as a colorist, I was lucky to know about her idea since our early days together at the college. We spoke in early December about her experience making the film and where she sees it heading in the future.

Alain Seguin is a Canadian animator whose filmography and knowledge outstretches the tail end of the 20th century onward. Having really made his place in Montreal, much of his skill set can be somewhat compared to the training of traditional animators during the Golden Age. Like his colleague Samuel Cabanac and the legendary Andreas Deja, he strongly believes that pushing your work will get you further as an artist.
From Pascal Blais to ToonDraw to the critically acclaimed Tonic DNA, he has been through the general nuts of bolts one may expect in the creative process of animation. These range from storyboarding, to illustration, to design work and even character animation. With over twenty years of hard earned work, he has been contributing to the art of traditional hand-drawn moving images that has almost been lost in his home country.
To this day, he happens to be a supervising animator at Tonic DNA on the new Looney Tunes cartoons featured on Warner Bros’ new streaming service, HBO Max. Being admirers of the newer works, it was only fitting that me and my pal Luke Perkins would interview Seguin on his output during the making of these shorts. Luke especially has been able to identify his shots thanks to his persistence of chronicling the hard work the animators behind these gems. It’ll only be a matter of time before these cartoons share the same legacy as their predecessors.
All three of us spoke via Facebook Messenger on September 7th, 2020. We started by asking Mr. Seguin about what the day in the life of an animator on these new Looney Tunes cartoons are like.

For the past few months, I've had the pleasure of collaborating on the ambitious indie documentary project known as Romantic Chorus, an ensemble interview film with animations from numerous freelance artists around the world. Tonight's episode of Sketch-i-Cast is focused on the director of said documentary Jeff M. Giordano and editor Aaron Gwynn, a.k.a. my bosses for the past few months.

Craig Clark has quite the impressive resume for someone who has pretty much lived and breathed animation and visual effects his entire life. Beginning his career in acting at age 8, it wouldn’t be long until he decided to switch on over to animation at age 14.
Among his mentors were animators Corny Cole , Duane Crowther, Grim Natwick and longtime Disney animator Amby Paliwoda. In the following years, Clark broke his teeth in TV animation in companies like Bill Melendez productions, Film Roman, and Klasky Csupo on the first three seasons of The Simpsons. With a series of feature films in his catalog such as Forrest Gump, The Mask, Big Trouble in Little China and Cool World, Clark loves dabbling in all different forms of animation, not just with characters.
Beyond that, he has his own original creations known as the Kustomonsters, which are a series of films that are still being done to this very day in his own spare time. We spoke last week on his experience in animation, and how much it has benefited him in the long run.

Anywho, so for tonight's interview, one of my former college professors was kind enough to join in as a guest. Jeanette Gerrity Gomez is a full time humanistic studies professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art, as well as that department's assistant chair. In addition to caring so deeply about the well being of others, she has performed civil duties from district court to associate professor to even Fullbright scholar in El Salvador. Having been a former student in her Voices: Women in the World class, I knew it would be perfect to interview her for international women's month on how she got to where she is now and how much her career impacted her in the long run.
