One intervention that can help us focus on adaptive responses is called, Affective Regulation. This is our ability to move from unwanted spiralling thoughts which, when left uncontrolled, can lead to depressive symptoms, to a more comforting mindset. PsychologyTools.com offers many tools including this one:
When an unwanted thought occurs put in on display:
We are emotional beings and we often are influenced by the people around us. The behaviors and attitudes of others have a great influence on our own affect, motivation, attitudes, behaviors. Employees continuously spread their own moods because individuals copy one another’s nonverbal cues, including movements, posture, and facial expressions such as a frown. Negative moods are difficult to overcome, but in this episode will discuss ways to shift negativity and take on a more positive approach.
This episode was inspired by James Clear's book, Atomic Habits (https://jamesclear.com/atomic-habits). We will talk about the concept of Habit Stacking; adding a new, healthy habit to an existing habit to increase productivity. Habit stacking helps us accomplish more because we already have certain patterns in place so it is easier for the brain to connect to something we are already doing.
Sense of belonging has emerged as an important factor that makes a critical contribution to learning and motivation. When we do not feel accepted and connected at school or work, we are likely to "check-out" and productivity is reduced. Therefore, being accepted and feeling valued is correlated with motivation. If we want to cultivate calm we must prioritize psychological safety & belonging.
When we think of self-care, many of us think about physical and mental wellness. But self-care can expand to so many other aspects of our lives! Take a look at this wheel - what area(s)! of self-care have you been neglecting lately? What suggestion do you think you might try?
Check it out here!
In this episode, we will examine the connection between self-esteem and emotional exhaustion. This wheel can be used to help us determine areas to focus on in order to boost our self-esteem.
This episode was inspired by the article, Balancing Your Body Budget by Jeena Cho
In this episode, I share a huge mistake I made and how it impacted my body. It was hard to let go of my to-do list and surrender to my body. My body budget was low and I needed to listen to it. Lisa Feldman Barrett, a professor of psychology at Northeastern University and the author of How Emotions Are Made: The Secret Life of the Brain explains that the body keeps a budget, and like your household budget, you make deposits and withdrawals.
Hey Supergluers!
In our final episode of this season, we will talk about courage. We will take a moment to reflect on our hopes and dreams and meditate on them. I share a new goal of mine that scares me deeply, but with God I will do it anyway.

It's a busy season for many of us which means we are running at a fast pace. Allow yourself the gift of mediation. In this episode, we will engage in a self-compassion mediation to release the yuck and embrace calm. This is one of my favorite meditations. Enjoy!
In this episode we talk about the correlation between self-identity and happiness. When we know ourselves and we feel completely confident in our skin, then we show up authentically in every situation and no longer apologize for who are!
In this episode we continue to explore who we are, how we want to live, and who we want to surround ourselves with in order to live well.
During this episode I share an experience I had recently that changed my outlook on life. After meeting a mother who tragically lost her daughter, I was reminded of the power of living life with intention. That mother taught me that how we live impacts how we die. I was forever changed.
In this episode, we will talk about what it means to pray a powerful prayer: Send Me! I share an experience with a homeless man that showed me how God can send us even when we are hesitant or even when the task appears too small to matter. Where are you being sent and why?
Look within to determine what you are holding too tightly. Search within to clarify what is within your locus of control. Ask the Lord to be with you as you search within to free yourself of attachments.
Dopamine helps us feel motivated even when there is a lot of stress in the background. In this episode, I share how to access the feel good chemical. I am currently experiencing personal stress and uncertainty, but I have made a conscious choice to boost my dopamine and remain happy. It is a game changer when we consciously decide to boost our dopamine. Listen in for tips to boost the feel good chemical!
Productivity is the goal! We all have a lot to do. We want to be efficient and effective. That means we need to talk to each other! We need to lay it all out on the table whether it is during a family meeting or team meeting, routines need to be examined by allowing members of the group to engage in personal reflection first. After that, examine routines that are used within the group. Consider what you need, what the team needs and how you can make changes to improve productivity.
Asking yourself questions leads to fruitful reflection. It can be so scary to sit still and ask ourselves the hard questions. These questions allow us to become more mindful of what we are doing on a daily basis and how our routines are impacting us. Do not be afraid. You are not alone! In prayer, you can examine yourself and the work you need to do without fear.
Seasons are good for us because they offer an opportunity to reexamine our routines. Some of our routines are scaffolds that actually lift us up - they reduce stress and help us thrive. Other routines are also ineffective and need to be cleaned up. Take a moment to examine your routines to ensure you are able to bounce back when unexpected changes occur.
In this episode we explore scripture that helps us understand authentic love. We will examine how much the Lord loves us and how He looks for the lost to provide them comfort.

What are your happiness triggers? What gives you that little boost to help you endure? In this episode we will also plan for Episode 100! Listen in and share your ideas!!!!
"Enjoy the journey!" Oh my, isn't that overused? Sometimes I hate that because I am terrible at enjoying the process. I want to get where I want to go. But when the dust comes, I get distracted, and the process gets messy. I have to learn to shake off the dust - shaking off what might be standing in my way of shaking off what makes the process less enjoyable. Sometimes we get stuck because we want to be liked and seek approval from others. Shake that off, Supergluer!!! In this episode, we center ourselves on God so that we can shake off what does not matter!
Do not give up when the process is hard. We are meant to endure with the Lord as our guide.
Hebrews 12:1-3 NLTTherefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.
We are going to address perfectionism so that we can get back to being kind to ourselves. In this episode, we will take a quick self-assessment to determine if perfectionism is getting in our way of thriving.
In this episode, we will talk about our body's natural ability to regulate and self-soothe. From our conception, we learn this skill and our mother's heartbeat becomes a source of comfort. Reconnect to your natural rhythm within in order to overcome stress and anxiety.
In this episode, we will draw on the wisdom from this book:
Anxiety Relief for Teens: Essential CBT Skills and Mindfulness Practices to Overcome Anxiety and Stress Paperback – Illustrated, March 31, 2020by Regine Galanti PhD (Author
I will highlight some of my fav tools and tips!
FOGO - Fear of Getting Old
As early as age 18, we begin to fear getting older. Fear not, my friends! Aging is a beautiful gift! In this episode we will talk about tips to keep your spark as you age!
As we age, we may struggle to match what is happening on the outside and how we feel on the inside. I often look in the mirror and am surprised by how I have aged because I still feel pretty young on the inside. Instead of focusing on a youthful appearance, embrace your wisdom. As we age, we still have sparks inside of us. They just look different on the inside and out. The changes are beautiful and meant to be enjoyed.
During a recent conversation with my daughters, I realized that I had an - embarrassing to admit - fear of gaining weight. By digging deeper, I realized this wasn't about my body at all but rather using my body as a way to cover up a deep rooted fear. In this episode, I share how I got my spark back and realize that my fear wasn't about the thing on the surface at all. As Michael Jr. said, "Life will bring you people and circumstances to reveal where you’re not free yet." I needed to dig deep into my fear and understand where I was not free. What I really fear is losing my spark - aging and not having that spark that I used to as a young person. Now my spark is relit. Remember, "Peace does not come from changing your circumstances peace comes from changing you."Dig deep with me in this episode.
These quick tips will help you self regulate with ease. Slow down enough to rewire your stress response and do something good for yourself today!
Gently Touch Your Lips
Your lips have parasympathetic fibers spread throughout them, so touching them activates the parasympathetic nervous system. Take one or two fingers and lightly run them over your lips.
Be Mindful – Don’t Multitask
Try not to multitask and be mindful of what you are doing. Toni Bernhard in her book, How To Be Sick – A Buddhist Inspired Guide for the Chronically Ill and Their Caregivers, quotes Korean Zen master Seung Sahn who liked to tell his students, “When reading, only read. When eating, only eat. When thinking, only think.”
Use Visualization
**Use visualization and imagery to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. Picture yourself in a peaceful place that you love. It could be the ocean at sunset, a mountain stream, a beautiful lush forest, a secluded beach, a field of wildflowers, or any place you enjoy and feel relaxed. Use all your senses as you visualize the place in this imagery. Hear the sounds of the waves, feel the breeze on your face, and smell the scent of the flowers. You’ll feel relaxed in no time at all.

Ever get stuck in negative thinking? We all do. It's work to re-train our brains - and it's on-going work. Listen in for a few tips and remember to slow down to see the good around you!
So...I now understand the reason for my fall. What a gift it was, actually. My fall prompted me to get my eyes checked and something scary was detected during the routine screening. We waited two dreaded weeks for further results and now I am super grateful for this wake up call. I am going to be just fine and the good Lord answered my prayers. But I hope you will consider what you are grateful for and wake up enough to see the good around you!
Why do we think we need to sprint all of the time? Are we not worthy when we are recovering? Are you struggling to pull back and practice self-care because the stress in your life is too big and overwhelming. Listen in for perspective and remember to slow down!
Do you tend to judge situations too quickly? The story of the Chinese Farmer helps us remember to stay open and detached especially when we are struggling. Credit to Alan Watts:
The Chinese Farmer Story
Once upon a time there was a Chinese farmer whose horse ran away. That evening, all of his neighbors came around to commiserate. They said, “We are so sorry to hear your horse has run away. This is most unfortunate.” The farmer said, “Maybe.”
The next day the horse came back bringing seven wild horses with it, and in the evening everybody came back and said, “Oh, isn’t that lucky. What a great turn of events. You now have eight horses!” The farmer again said, “Maybe.”
The following day his son tried to break one of the horses, and while riding it, he was thrown and broke his leg. The neighbors then said, “Oh dear, that’s too bad,” and the farmer responded, “Maybe.”
The next day the conscription officers came around to conscript people into the army, and they rejected his son because he had a broken leg. Again all the neighbors came around and said, “Isn’t that great!” Again, he said, “Maybe.”
The whole process of nature is an integrated process of immense complexity, and it’s really impossible to tell whether anything that happens in it is good or bad — because you never know what will be the consequence of the misfortune; or, you never know what will be the consequences of good fortune.
How do we find hope while we are waiting? Let's face it - we are always waiting. We are waiting on results, news, updates, outcomes. It's so hard to wait! Let's talk about attachment and detaching from the past and future to wait in peace.
So we know perspective matters. Looking at things with a half-full cup truly does lead to heal benefits. But what about when we fill our cup to the point of overflow? Could it be better to decrease what goes in the cup to leave margin for reflection and space for growth?
It's a time of reflection for many as they are deciding whether to stay or go. Highlighting a great worksheet with five questions (thank you to the author from Positively Present)

Either way, it will be hard. There are ups and downs in all of our choices. What a gift it is when we can choose. Take a moment to reflect on your next big decision. Ask God to clarify your decision and choose the hard that works best for you!
A recent girls' weekend has me filled with joy yet a lot of ups and downs. Literally ups and downs. In this episode I talk about two recent accidents and the struggle to making meaning of all of the mess. Sometimes God speaks to us and we hear Him instantly. Other times we feel we are waiting to make meaning of what is happening around us.
We are all impacted by how we were raised. Our ability to give self compassion to our young people is everything. They are learning from us! Listen in to learn about a recent experience that impacted our family and the choice to utilize self compassion.
This is hard. I made a huge mistake and let people down. This sent me into a spiral and left me feeling low. We must remember that we are human. Mistakes are a part of the growing process. Listen in to turn your self judgment into kindness. XO
I have missed this community! I am excited to be back and connect with all of you. Thank you for your patience with me as I needed time to reflect and reset. XO
Hey friends!
I am so incredibly grateful for your support. The Lord has certainly blessed me with a lot of work after starting my own business in June. I am finding myself moving at a fast pace again and need to pull back a bit. For my own wellness, I am going to put our podcast on hold. I will stay in touch. I have every intention of doing this again, but for now I need to refocus my time. I wish you all the very best. Thank you for listening in!

In our fast paced society where productivity is highly valued and instant gratification is coveted, it can be very difficult to step away, unplug and just sit quietly with ourselves. Let's discuss the benefits of meditation and take a moment to simply sit. Like many things that are good for us, this can be hard. The time is worth it because you matter. Be gentle with yourself and take time to restore your soul.
In The Prayer Process we take time – a minute, two minutes or maybe ten minutes - to spend time with the Lord every day.
Pick a specific time when you will pray; ex. Morning Prayer or Night Prayer.
It is an intentional way that we grow in our faith.
The seven steps of The Prayer Process are as follows:
1. Gratitude: Begin by thanking God in a personal dialogue for whatever you are most grateful for today.
2. Awareness: Revisit the times of the past twenty-four hours when you were and were not the-best-version-of-yourself. Talk to God about these situations and what you learned from them.
3. Significant Moments: Identify something you experienced today and explore what God might be trying to say to you through that event (or person).
4. Peace: Ask God to forgive you for any wrong you have committed (against yourself, another person, or Him) and to fill you with a deep and abiding peace.
5. Freedom: Speak with God about how he is inviting you to change your life, so that you can experience the freedom to be the-best-version-of-yourself.
6. Others: Lift up to God anyone you feel called to pray for today, asking God to bless and guide them.
7. Finish by praying the Our Father.
Life is messy.
It isn’t a color-within-the-lines exercise.
It’s a wild and outrageous invitation
full of uncertain outcomes.
The mess of life is both inevitable and unexpected.
It is filled with delightful mysteries
and frustrating predicaments.
In our disposable culture,
we throw broken things away.
So, what will we do with broken people,
broken relationships, broken institutions, broken families,
and of course, our very own broken selves?
We are all broken and wounded.
The answer will fill you with hope.
There has never been a more urgent need
for us to attend to what is happening within us.
Habits 4 and 5 focus on creating Win-Win situations by engaging in the practice of seeking to understand before needing to be understood.
Habit 1 helps us understand how to utilize a proactive mindset which is produced through suffering. Gear up...my tears start flowing at the end because this topic is just so meaningful to me. I hope you find it purposeful.
Romans 5:3-5
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
This is our final episode of 2021. Thank you for listening and know that you are loved!
What evidence do you have to make your fear real? Let's talk about how to sift through the evidence and focus on love.
Your best...not her best...not his best...not the best at everything.
“God is life. God is life in action. The best way to say, "I love you, God," is to live your life doing your best. The best way to say, "Thank you, God," is by letting go of the past and living in the present moment, right here and now. Whatever life takes away from you, let it go. When you surrender and let go of the past, you allow yourself to be fully alive in the moment. Letting go of the past means you can enjoy the dream that is happening right now.”
― Don Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom
“If others tell us something we make assumptions, and if they don't tell us something we make assumptions to fulfill our need to know and to replace the need to communicate. Even if we hear something and we don't understand we make assumptions about what it means and then believe the assumptions. We make all sorts of assumptions because we don't have the courage to ask questions.”

This week we will examine powerful messages from the book: The Four Agreements.
“If someone is not treating you with love and respect, it is a gift if they walk away from you. If that person doesn't walk away, you will surely endure many years of suffering with him or her. Walking away may hurt for a while, but your heart will eventually heal. Then you can choose what you really want. You will find that you don't need to trust others as much as you need to trust yourself to make the right choices.”
― Don Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom
Who or what is priceless to you? How often do you live for the people or live out the values that are priceless to you?

Don't Jump To Conclusions
According to Psychology Today, when people make a judgement about you, or critiques, they are rarely about you. "In fact, it’s almost always about them, their issues, their needs, and their desire to control you and/or a situation," writes Dr. Abigail Brenner. To help manage your response to confrontation, know what you're sensitive about, and what triggers your emotions so you can prepare yourself if someone mentions them.
Visualization is a useful technique that helps you reach your goals and make tweaks that are empowering to your wellbeing. This mind tool gets your body and soul ready for what is next! Practice every day because you deserve time to "see" what is possible!
Is there something you are avoiding? Is avoiding it making you anxious? Start small, my friend, but just do it! Get an accountability partner and take action.
"Waste" a little time doing something you love. Then watch your productivity soar and your mood lighten.
It might be time to let someone go in order for you to be your best self. Pray about it. We all deserve friendships that are uplifting and full of joy.
This one gave me all the feels - maybe it's because I remember so many times when I had to turn to God to accept hardships and I am reflecting on the goodness that comes out of suffering. I wish that for you too, Supergluer!
Try these tips to center yourself! (Courtesy of The Stanford Medical Team: Employee and Workplace Wellness):
Jonah 2:6-7
I went down to the mornings of the mountains;
The earth with its bars closed behind me forever;
Yet You have brought up my life from the pit,

Just a little note to let you know that I am learning that it is okay to take something off of my plate. I love this little podcast, but today was a super busy day and I am wiped out. I am so excited to record a new episode tomorrow (Tuesday) and launch it on Wednesday!! Until then, have a kick ass day and remember to pray without ceasing! :)
To me, venting is necessary. Gossip can dim your glow. Check your heart and you will know the difference!
Quick tip: Reflect on a team member’s positive traitsWhen feeling frustrated with a co-worker, it is easy to focus on their supposed negative traits. There is the risk that individuals who view their work as particularly meaningful are more likely to sacrifice their self-care and can be at a higher risk of experiencing burnout. Taking a break from work (both in the form of short breaks throughout the day and longer vacations and time off) is a necessary part of preventing burnout and staying productive. Ask questions to show you are willing to listen: "Is there a way we can make the process more efficient? Is there anything I can do individually to make it easier on you?”
