Author Leonie Althea's New Book Encourages The Child In All Of Us To Embrace Kindness And Acceptance. An enchanting Jamaican children's story about friendship and kindness, Leonie Althea's debut book, How Rice Met Peas, captures the essence of friendship and kindness in its memorable rhymes and story. This book aims to teach children that kindness matters and that we are all unique in our way. Children and the kid in all of us can connect to the fun-loving Rice and Peas characters that show, although they are different, they can love, respect, and enjoy having fun with each other. The book is both an ambassador for Jamaican food, music, and culture, and a loving tribute to Leonie's grandmother, who introduced her to the classic Jamaican rice and peas dish.

I write about building connections and growing through relationships, which comes down to building trust and informing an audience of my expertise, whether with experience in travel or by demonstrating my storytelling capabilities as a novelist. Douglas Weissman is an author and travel writer who has spent time exploring diverse corners of the world. He is the husband of a museum educator, and father of a delightful girl, and lives in Los Angeles. He has an MFA in creative writing from the University of San Francisco and spent time in Buenos Aires. My Young Adult series and New Adult novel were released by Epic Press in the Fall of 2016. My short stories have been published in 3 Elements Review, Wild Musette, Kingdoms in the Wild, Lamplit Underground, and I Must Be Off. I was shortlisted in Glimmer Train's "Family Matters" writing contest in 2015. I am a graduate of the Master of Fine Arts program in Creative Writing at the University of San Francisco and live in Los Angeles with my gorgeous wife, fun-loving daughter, anxious dog, and indifferent cat. By the time you read this, I will probably have another cat.
