Are you planning to backpack around the world? Well then you've come to the right place! This episode has some tips and tricks I picked up from my travels that I hope will help you have a more enjoyable time on your explorations.

One thing I want to highlight is making sure you are taking care of your physical and mental health. Figure out what you need to take care of yourself before you go on your trip and bring the necessary items with you. Your trip should be all about exploring a new culture, changing your perspective, being open to new adventures, connecting with people from all over the world, and transforming from the inside out. Make it easier on yourself by bringing your favorite book, or packing sanitary wipes for those sketchy bathrooms, or making a plan to call home every couple of days. Think about what brings you comfort and happiness and ask yourself, how can I emulate this in another country?

Now its time to get out there and explore this beautiful world of ours!

If you’re looking for a unique and life changing group travel tour, look no further…

My guest today, Laura Ericson, owns a group travel tour company where she takes people on “off the beaten path” experiences. She started traveling as a child, but it wasn’t until she got divorced at age 34 that she really put her focus into traveling and made it a priority. Her business was started in 2021 out of the need for travel buddies. She couldn’t find anyone to travel with and people were always warning her not to travel to “dangerous” places alone. So whala! She created her own group travel business. Her goal is to make sure people have access to less popular countries like Colombia and Turkey, which have become some of her favorite countries and are often overlooked. Since she started her business just over a year ago, she has taken people on 5 group trips to 4 countries and is adding several new trip locations in 2023 (Morocco, Arizona, Colombia, Mexico City, and Cuba).

In this episode we go into a lot of my favorite topics like over-tourism, dark tourism, post traumatic growth, and how sometimes the universe will throw something negative your way so you can build something positive. Please enjoy and go check out all that Laura and her business has to offer!

In today's episode I get vulnerable and talk about a time when I was harassed in Sri Lanka. It wasn't a great start to my 3 week long trip, but it did give me a chance to grow and reflect. I have no regrets from that trip and wouldn't have it any other way. I wouldn't be who I am today if I didn't experience everything that I did.

In the end, I had the most incredible time in this beautiful country. I made lasting friendships, learned how to surf, fell in love with another country, and experienced personal growth. Everything from the landscape, to the culture, to the delicious food was perfect and I can't wait to go back.

"Do something that’s a little uncomfortable and trust your gut." Wise words from my guest today, Katherine Leamy. Katherine is The 5 Kilo Traveller. Her mission is to help people travel lighter, stop struggling with heavy and overpacked luggage, and enjoy the liberating freedom of carry-on travel. Her personal travelling light journey started on her solo trip to Europe in 2017 which we talk about on this episode.

She realised she had to manage her own bag all by herself - and that is how the desire to travel lighter all began. The trip turned out to be life changing and living a lighter life has now become her philosophy. She loves sharing her passion for all things light and she's even written a travel memoir!

Her memoir, "Dare to Travel Solo: Exploring Croatia and Italy with a light carry-on bag a tone of determination" comes out March 2023! You can get it on Amazon as an e-book once it's released (more details in the episode).

Tanzania is such a wonderful place to have a transformational experience. I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to connect with a village many years ago that is still so near and dear to my heart today. In this episode I talk about a day that I helped carry buckets of water to the homes in a rural village in Tanzania and how it started me on a path of searching for transformational travel experiences.

This experience helped me gain a new perspective on life, feel grateful for what I have, and feel connected to a whole village of strong and resilient people.

Listen in to get an inspirational boost and hear all about my love for this country.
