Awards will be given for the Best Commercial Display, Best Residential Display, Best Window Display, and Best Overall Display.
Ellijay Christmas MarketCelebrate the season with family and friends at Downtown Ellijay’s holiday market! Join us on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Gilmer County Courthouse Parking Lot for a free-entry event filled with local charm and holiday cheer.
Host Asa Jones welcomes Ellijay Bacon Fest organizers Abby Prieto and Irene Witt. Ellijay Bacon Fest was created gather the community for the love of bacon and local restaurateurs while helping raise awareness and money for local charities and organizations. In 2023 the festival raised over $10,000 for local charities and collected 1,447 pounds of canned goods.
Get ready to hog-wild at the third annual festival on Sunday, September 29, at Gilmer River Park in Ellijay.

Fourth of July is coming up! Host Asa Jones welcomes Caitlin Neal from the Gilmer County Chamber and Pam Burns from Gilmer Arts Playhouse to discuss the upcoming Fourth of July festival and parade. Asa and Ron welcome Linda Lancaster, representing Friends of Harrison Park, to discuss the upcoming Sasquatch Strut on April 27 and to talk about the Friends of Harrison Park's progress and accomplishments. The goal of the 501 (c)(3) nonprofit is to provide a place for friends and families to gather without spending too much money. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Ellijay! Beau Lowman with BEAU-tiful Creations returns to the studio to talk all about Light Up Ellijay and the 2023 Christmas Parade.
On Friday, November 24, Light Up Ellijay features photos with Santa, a 25-foot inflatable gingerbread house for children, and more from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on the Square in Downtown Ellijay. Stop by the BEAU-tiful Creations studio on Southside Square for gingerbread crafts throughout the day.
Then, on Saturday, December 2, holiday festivities downtown kick off at noon with music and caroling and a Christmas market, then the Christmas Parade begins at 6:00 p.m. Following the parade, come to the afterparty at BEAU-tiful Creations with a holiday movie screening, plus, come in throughout the day to paint ornaments.

In 1996, Georgia established a state-wide chapter of the Trail of Tears Association, ten years after the country identified the official trail, which began in Chattanooga and stretched to the west. This definition of the Trail of Tears failed to include Alabama, North Carolina, and Georgia. In 2006, the Trail of Tears Association was able to correct the error.
Even today, Georgia has a great number of locations that have yet to be identified as viable preservation sites. "Any time I pass a [structure] that's covered over with asphalt shingles, I want to go rip it off because I know there's a cabin underneath that probably dates to the Cherokees," exclaims Leslie Thomas, president of the Georgia Association of the Trail of Tears.###
