We are college students, trying to have conversations about where we are, who we are, and what we think. We go to Bates College, so a lot of our conversations explore what it means to attend this institution.

This week we talk about Artificial Intelligence. This is a long-awaited episode on the way in which our generation will have to interact with the threat or benefits of the rise of AI. Today we talk about mental health. We are in the middle of finals week, and everyone is grinding in all kinds of obscure locations on campus. It seems like the perfect time to ask what we are doing to take care of ourselves and the people around us. This conversation is an honest conversation about mental health and our mental struggles.

This week we talk about our relationship with the French language. Both Sebastien and I speak French and sometimes find our identities split by our inability to express ourselves fully in only one language. We are joined by a guest, Chloe Santucci, a first-generation American with French parents, to discuss our relationship with the French language. Join us as we pick our brains and talk about our relationship to the French language in almost exclusively English spaces.
Today we talk about political and social discourse on campus. As many of you know, we go to a Liberal Arts college. Liberal arts institutions aim to shape students into freethinkers, open communicators, knowledgeable citizens, and respectable people (Lyon College). We love a good citation! In our time here we have found that very few people are willing to engage in political/social discourse and we are wondering why. In an attempt to have a conversation about conversation, we are joined by Luis Orozco. This conversation will hopefully be the first of two parts to get opinions from different sides of the political spectrum.
Today we talk about Black hair. We talk about the experiences of Black and mixed folks and their relationship to hair. We discuss rituals and the meditative aspect of taking care of Black hair. We are joined by our good friend Emily Diaz to talk about hair. Emily is writing a thesis on Black Hair taking the angle of the film Pelo Malo.
This week we made an episode in celebration of Newman Day. Newman Day is a tradition started at Bates College because of Paul Newman's saying "24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case, coincidence? I think not!" On the Friday of the Winter Carnival, Bates students take up the challenge and try to drink 1 beer an hour for 24 hours. With walking microphones, we interviewed a couple of Bates students about their thoughts on the tradition.
This week we talk about microaggressions, racism, and anti-racism. We have just celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day and are about to celebrate Black History Month, in honor of these things we thought we would record an episode on race. Many institutions today aim to achieve anti-racism, what does that look like, what does it mean, and what kind of discrimination do BIPOC communities at these institutions face? Join us this week as we talk about race, with our guest and friend Rashad A. King.
