I have been very busy life-ing, particularly with two extremely active toddlers, and therefore my priorities have majorly shifted. I may return to this podcast once we're all settled into our new home and routine in Sweden in the fall, but I'm not going to commit to any definitive timeline or frequency.

In this episode, I discuss one of the major inspirations of the decision to take a step back, Michaeleen Doucleff's newest book Dopamine Kids, along with my desire to place more time and attention on fostering in-person relationships with my community right here.

I talk about which high-value activities I'd like to replace with some low-value activities I became accustomed to and what life will probably look like for at least the next few months.

While my goal is to be online less, particularly on instagram, I don't take for granted the meaningful connections I've made thanks to social media.

Isabella Malbin is a former liberal feminist who helps women unpack the ideologies, industries, and medical technologies that seek to control women’s bodies through the Whose Body Is It podcast and instant access classes.

Welcoming Isabella Malbin of @whosebodyisit back after her initial episode three years ago, we discuss:

  • why there is no such thing as "ethical" porn
  • why it isn't normal to normalize porn in your marriage
  • why porn is inherently harmful even if you think all adults are consenting
  • how we can rewrite the script as parents when having conversations with our children about porn
  • How porn subliminally infiltrates other aspects of our culture and society like body hair and body modification
  • Boundaries and values around porn consumption in a marriage

You can take the masterclass Remove Porn From Your Relationship + Bedroom. Even if porn is not an issue in your marriage, like it is not for me, it's great to have clear and confident talking points especially when people claim "sex work is work" and "ethical porn is okay."

Just over three years after airing our episode with chiropractor Dr. Madalyn Turner, I sit down with her twin sister Dr. Johanna Hartley, who is also a chiropractor, to learn about how she has been pulled between the highly medicalized hospital system and her family's holistic values after discovering her second son, born at home, had a congenital defect called Hypospadius in which the urethra is not where it is supposed to be.

It turns out, he had the most severe version.

To give you an idea of where Dr. Johanna falls on the crunchy scale, she is a non-vaccinating chiropractor who prefers to use conventional, OTC medication as a last resort. In her story, it becomes apparent how humbling and earth shattering supporting your infant through three major surgeries is and how it rocks your world and forces you to exercise discernment with prioritizing your holistic values.

In this episode, you'll hear how Dr. Johanna and her husband ultimately find the right surgeons out-of-state for their son's procedure and how they knew the first opinion they received from a local "expert" was subpar. Dr. Johanna also walks us through her first two birth experiences and how this initiation into motherhood laid the foundation for how she shows up for her family and her worldview.

If you are grappling with making complex decisions, especially given your holistic values, in the face of medical necessity, then this episode is for you.

Warning: If you are a member of the Ms. Rachel cult, this episode will be a tough listen. Please don't say I didn't warn you!

Andreina Rosales is also a Millennial toddler mom, and she is working towards her PhD. It wasn't until her own son was born at just 6 months gestation that her world was rocked when the doctor explained he likely will have autism as a result of being a premie.

From that point, Andreina became obsessed with researching the causes of autism, and we discussed the autism-screen time connection. Yes, there is a type of autism that presents as screen-induced.

We would not do this conversation justice if we skirted around the topic of Ms. Rachel. Ms. Rachel is the archetype of a mainstream Millennial mom's idol, and the sad irony of her show is that children are not actually becoming better communicators despite this being the show's premise. Andreina explains the difference between verbalizing and communicating.

Andreina and I reminisce about the nostalgia of the low-stimulating, cozy classic shows of our early-to-mid 90s childhood and how stark the contrast is with today's over-stimulating, brain-rot slop children's programming.

There is a disturbing new finding that Andreina has recently uncovered in her research, and it's thematic across most modern young children's programming. Be sure to listen until the very end for it.

Please don't be hard on yourself if your kids have been exposed to addictive modern kids' tv. There is such a thing as neuroplasticity, and a screen-tox may be just the trick. Not all hope is lost.

This episode is going to ruffle some feathers especially within the online motherhood realm, however it's one that needs to be shared. I understand the initial reaction some will have of defensiveness, however I appreciate you letting that initial feeling simmer and continuing to listen with an open mind.

It's never too late to change your mind! I did a few years back.

I sit down with journalist Fortesa Latifi who is the author of "Like, Follow, Subscribe: Influencer Kids and the Cost of a Childhood Online". She reveals what her interviews with famous mom influencers, their children and nannies have described about what actually goes on behind the cameras.

We examine:

  • The ramifications of a child's digital footprint through multiple angles and what the future holds
  • Which current events were going on in 2023 that attributed to the trend of hiding children's faces online
  • Is it true that AI can unveil a child's face behind an emoji placed over it?
  • Which type of child content gets the most engagement from family vloggers? It might surprise you.
  • How is being a minor showcased online different from being a minor on a tv show or in a movie?
  • How does the law protect children online?
  • Why do certain demographics tend to fall into the family vlogging world?

If you are childcare-curious or actively seeking any type of childcare for your babies or toddlers, you need to listen to this solo episode. I leave no stone unturned.

I talk about just about every single variation of childcare from my personal and professional experience both on the receiving and giving end from pre-motherhood and currently as a mom of two toddlers.

In this solo I discuss:

  • the challenges of full-time outsourcing childcare to grandparents
  • the differences between preschool and daycare
  • what exactly is a mother's helper and what is her function?
  • why and when might you want a mother's helper vs. a sitter vs. a nanny?
  • why might a stay-at-home mom want or need childcare assistance
  • the challenges of trying to piecemeal the best care and support when we do not live in a hunter-gatherer society

Looking for a caretaker for your baby or toddler? I've created a guide full of the best questions you can ask your daycare, preschool, nanny, sitter or mother's helper to gauge if they're the right fit.

Whether your goal is to prevent or plan pregnancy, and better yet you want to avoid non-evidenced based, toxic, and synthetic methods, you NEED to listen to this.

Carly Hartwig (@cleanlivingwithcarly) and I discuss:

  • Why is the fertility awareness method an evidence-based, effective way of preventing or planning for pregnancy? How does it differ from the rhythm method? What about Natural Family Planning?
  • What's the difference between the Billings, Justisse, and Marquette methods, and why did Carly choose to become certified in Justisse?
  • Why are women accidentally becoming pregnant when using the app Natural Cycles? What about when wearing condoms?
  • Are vasectomies and "non-hormonal" IUDs really harmless?
  • How do we want to introduce FAM to our daughters?
  • Is perimenopause real? What are the symptoms?
  • Is HRT (hormone-replacement therapy) always bad?)

I sat down with Aaron Siri, Managing Partner of the NYC-based law-firm Siri & Glimstad specializing in vaccine injury, RFK Jr.s attorney during his presidential campaign, and the author of Vaccines, Amen the Religion of Vaccines.

We discuss

  • the conflicts of interest between the nation's leading vaccinologists, vaccine manufacturers, and the United States government.
  • how vaccine manufacturers were able to get away with administering medical products that have never been proven to be safe
  • what is fundamentally wrong with the clinical trials performed for vaccines
  • myths and lies we've been fed about how vaccines are responsible for saving lives
  • the legal process that occurs when a parent sues for a vaccine injury

Today I chat with my second-cousin Megan who is a younger yet ever so wise Millennial toddler mom and Renaissance woman. Our moms are first cousins. Megan has worked as a doula and now runs a doula placement agency in Southern California. She’s also a mom to a three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, an IBCLC, and a Nurse Practitioner.

Have you heard of the company Carrot? Women who are not even adequately trained to be postpartum doulas are able to bypass the necessary time and in-person training it takes in order to become one in order to get their piece of the pie. Why is this problematic? When families hire a postpartum doula, the expectation is that the entire family unit will be cared for including the home. There is an expectation that breastfeeding support will be offered and that the postpartum doula is actually knowledgeable about breastfeeding. Instead, women are able to claim the title of postpartum doula while actually stepping into the misleading role of overnight nanny or newborn care specialist.

During this episode, I also ask Megan for her nuanced opinions on bottle and pacifier usage (it’s not so black-and-white!). We discuss what is really attributing to textbook low supply.

We delve into a breastfeeding technique I had never heard of before called “reverse cycling” and why we think it’s so seldom discussed. It’s typically used as a strategy for moms who must return to work and don’t want to affect their supply or offer formula, so they hold off on nursing all day and then nurse truly on-demand all throughout the night. It does require bedsharing in order to be successful.

I ask her what is the worst breastfeeding advice she’s ever heard as someone who is trained as an IBCLC, a Nurse Practitioner, a former doula and a toddler mom who is still nursing.

Despite having to return to work outside the home (part-time for 12 hour shifts!), Megan is still successfully nursing her 3.5 year old.

In this solo, I discuss why I chose to nightwean each of my children when I did and how I returned to my "why" when staying committed to nightweaning felt hard in the middle of the night.

I explain which strategies worked vs. which didn't. Why I nightweaned my son at 21 months old vs. my daughter at 17 months old and what it meant for each of their breastfeeding relationships with me.

Each of my children, as I'm sure each of yours, have such different temperaments. There is no one-size-fits-all nightweaning blueprint. A lot of it is a mix of your maternal intuition coupled with some trial and error. There are general guidelines of definitive nos and yes's with the process, but there is no bypassing the hard parts. Like with any other challenging milestone, it must be met head on. This is something I kind of learned the hard way.

I explain when I believe it is developmentally inappropriate vs. appropriate to night wean and when the benefits of nightweaning outweigh the benefits of night nursing. I also talk about how and when your husband can get on board with helping.

For more support with nightweaning, join dozens of other women in the private Moms Off The Record community. We have an active nightweaning thread within the forum with other first-hand accounts and success stories!

Elena Bridgers is a mother of two, science writer and researcher with a focus on maternal health and well-being, examined through the lens of evolutionary mismatch.

Her personal journey of finding motherhood challenging after choosing to have two-under-two and going through extreme sleep deprivation led her to ask why this is so hard. How did our ancestors do this?

While Elena is a big fan of Michaeleen Doucleff, author of "Hunt, Gather, Parent," she points out that Michaeleen's focus is on parenting strategies whereas Elena examines the social context in which our ancestors mothered.

In this episode we discuss, from a hunter-gatherer evolutionary perspective:

  • interpregnancy intervals
  • breastfeeding as birth control
  • weaning from nursing
  • tandem feeding
  • the tradwife movement and having very large families
  • Bedsharing vs. sleep training
  • Alloparenting, "free" childcare, and the nuance with daycare

JOIN AMANDA'S UPCOMING MOTHERPRINT COHORT ON FEB 23RD!

Today I'm joined by LCSW Amanda Texeira who is a mom of three boys and a holistic, trauma-informed therapist. to unpack one of the most misunderstood and overused phrases in modern motherhood: nervous system regulation.

Somewhere along the way, “regulated” became synonymous with “calm.”
If you’re not calm all the time? You must be dysregulated!

Amanda debunks this myth.

We talk about the pendulum swing in motherhood content: from hyper-curated, perfectly curated moments to victim-mindset misery. We discuss how algorithm-driven black-and-white parenting advice like never saying the word “no” can actually make moms more dysregulated, ironically.

We explore:

  • Why calm ≠ regulated
  • The difference between congruent responses and suppression
  • How to model emotional intelligence
  • Why yelling “NO!” when your child runs toward traffic is actually regulated
  • Why Amanda doesn't like parenting scripts
  • The performative side of “gentle parenting”
  • How algorithm-fed content can manufacture misery
  • When "mental load" rhetoric is helpful vs. harmful

We close by talking about congruency, repair cycles, environmental regulation myths, and why your reaction often makes sense even when Instagram denies it.

I have no clue whether Erik and I will have a third baby. We're both leaving the door open for that possibility. What we do know though is we're waiting minimum 3-4 years between baby 3 and our second baby. Probably leaning closer to 4 years.

With two kids just over two years apart, I reflect on what the postpartum period was actually like for me, especially as a mom who parents intentionally, prefers not to take shortcuts or use literal or metaphorical pacifiers, and mothers in alignment with biological norms. Hint: I had to take shortcuts. I needed to give myself a lot of grace.

I examine factors such as my personal capacity, my kids' and my own temperaments, resources, age, energy, and milestones I would prefer for my second baby to reach before we even begin to think about trying for a third IF we eventually decide to have a third.

In this episode, I talk about:

  • What postpartum really looked like with two kids 26 months apart
  • My theory for why “two under two” works for some families and not for others
  • The physical and emotional toll of back-to-back pregnancies and extended breastfeeding
  • What bigger age gaps actually mean for sibling bonds
  • Hunter-gatherer family spacing and modern pressures around fertility
  • Egg quality vs. egg quantity (and why I’m not afraid of pregnancy in my late 30s)

If you’re a mom who feels conflicted about wanting to wait or pressured to hurry up, this conversation is for you.

I welcome my friend Celanie Jones for an honest, intricate conversation about sovereignty and what it actually means, without the catchy buzzwords, and how it’s often distorted in modern motherhood and within spiritual communities. Celanie is a homeschooling mom of two young children and local Weston A. Price chapter leader.

Celanie shares her rocky but redemptive journey through abuse, trauma, pregnancy termination, postpartum psychosis, and her time inside the Free Birth Society, where the language of sovereignty was used ironically to control rather than to encourage autonomy. We unpack how real sovereignty isn’t about rejecting systems blindly but rather listening to your own body without the outside influence of another leader or expert.

This episode explores:
• What sovereignty actually means on a nervous-system level
• How cult dynamics show up in “crunchy” and spiritual motherhood spaces
• The role of trauma in people-pleasing and submission
• Why changing your mind is a powerful act of sovereignty
• How to tell if you’re truly making your own choices

Please share your feedback within the comments section of Spotify or on instagram. We welcome your respectful discourse!

I sat down with Caley Jones of Rad Moms Union to unpack what’s really happening behind the scenes of the ByHeart formula manufacturing plant, and why their recent botulism outbreak should raise everyone's eyebrows.

Caley brings a critical, highly-relevant perspective to this conversation. Before becoming a mom, she worked directly in consumer goods, food manufacturing, quality assurance, and factory testing both in the U.S. and overseas. In this conversation, she explains how infant formula manufacturing differs from other food industries, why formula factories are often held to lower standards than organic snack foods, and how companies like ByHeart are able to bypass third-party oversight.

We talk in depth about:

  • The botulism outbreak and FDA findings
  • Why powdered formula is not sterile
  • How recalls are handled differently for formula vs food
  • The dangers of influencer marketing for infant formula
  • Why “clean,” “organic,” and “purity” labels don’t tell the full story
  • What parents are not being told about preparation, water boiling, and bacterial risk
  • How convenience culture (single-serve packets, on-the-go prep) increases danger
  • Why infant formula exists in a regulatory gray zone. It's neither a food nor a drug

In this mini episode of Moms Off the Record, I’m diving into one of the most misunderstood topics in early childhood: nighttime potty training.

So many parents feel confident with daytime potty training only to get completely stuck at night. And most of the advice moms receive is some version of “just wait, they’ll grow out of it.” Today, I want to gently but clearly set the record straight.

I talk about why night training isn’t purely hormonal (ADH!), where the myths around bedwetting actually come from, and how modern conveniences like overnight pull-ups have reshaped our expectations around what’s "normal."

I also share real client stories, my own experiences with both of my kids, and why parents actually have far more agency in this process than we’re often led to believe.

Key Takeaways

  • Night dryness is not purely hormonal
  • Parents have more influence than they’re told
  • Waiting it out doesn’t always resolve bedwetting
  • Night training can be guided calmly and respectfully
  • Modern advice isn’t always aligned with biology (go figure!)

Night training doesn’t have to be burdensome for you or your child. With a few mindset shifts, some timing awareness, and consistent guidance, this process can feel far more manageable than mainstream advice suggests.

In this episode of Mom Off the Record, I’m joined again by the one and only Jamie Glowacki — and this conversation goes far beyond potty training.

We talk honestly about what’s really going wrong in modern parenting: unrealistic expectations, over-accommodation, fear-based decision making, and a culture obsessed with comfort and instant gratification. Jamie breaks down how these patterns show up in everyday parenting — from sippy cups and snacks to organized sports, discipline, and yes… potty training.

We also dive deep into:

  • Why toddlers are so widely misunderstood
  • The difference between natural, logical, and external consequences
  • Why kids today are being both infantilized and overburdened at the same time
  • The ideal window for potty training (and why waiting too long can backfire)
  • Poop withholding (encopresis): what it is, why it happens, and the worst advice parents are given
  • How fear, the 24-hour news cycle, and social media have reshaped parenting norms
  • Why kids need autonomy, responsibility, and real-world feedback to thrive

This episode is for parents who feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or like they’re constantly second-guessing themselves. It’s a reminder that your intuition matters — and that parenting doesn’t have to be this hard.

Today I’m sharing the real reason my family and I decided to leave Florida for Sweden, and it's probably not exactly what you think.

This isn’t about chasing a “perfect Scandinavian country” or running away from life in the U.S. Instead, Erik and I had a serious heart-to-heart after returning from our last visit this past summer and realized motherhood, extended family support, and peer-oriented community were going to be more easeful in Sweden.

Right now with two young toddlers in tow, living amongst a culture that lauds business, we realized we need to prioritize our existing network of contemporaries, give the children the opportunity to grow up with family their own age, and align with others who value slowing down and the simple things in life.

This decision comes with tradeoffs and concerns which I discuss very openly. I'm both very excited and a little nervous.

What I Talk About in This Episode

In this special end-of-year episode, Kat and April sit down for a heartfelt and honest conversation reflecting on the journey of Moms Off the Record: how it began, how it evolved, and what it has meant to both of them and the community it grew.

This episode also marks a meaningful transition. After years of co-creating MOTR together, April shares her decision to step away as a co-host, with Kat moving forward as the sole host and steward of the podcast. The conversation is rooted in gratitude, clarity, and mutual respect with an honoring of seasons, growth, and the courage it takes to listen when an assignment shifts.

Together, Kat and April reflect on favorite moments, impactful conversations, and the many messages from women who have shared how MOTR helped them feel less alone, more confident in their intuition, and more empowered to question the narratives surrounding modern motherhood.

This episode is two parts a look back and a blessing moving forward with the reminder that growth often asks us to release what we love in order to make room for what’s next.

Thank you for being part of this chapter.

WE LOVE YOU! Cheers to Season 4 led by none other than Kat!

What started as a movement for dignity has become an ideology of disconnection.

In this episode, we trace the evolution of feminism, from its early roots in moral equality to its modern rebranding as sameness, independence, and career-first identity. We explore how the cultural promise of “having it all” has often left women feeling fragmented, overextended, and unfulfilled.

From the economic engineering that made two incomes a necessity, to the corporate and political forces that turned liberation into labor, we unpack how the feminist movement has been co-opted, and how that shift continues to affect families, children, and the very soul of womanhood.

This isn’t about going backward; it’s about remembering what was sacred. We discuss how honoring biological design, polarity, and the divine dance between masculine and feminine could be the key to restoring balance, in our homes, our relationships, and within ourselves.

True liberation isn’t doing everything alone. It’s remembering that we were designed to thrive together.

We’re joined by journalist and former climate activist Lucy Biggers of The Free Press (and formerly NowThis) to talk about the surprising intersection of motherhood and politics, and what happens when we’re brave enough to reexamine our deeply held beliefs.

Now a mom of two toddlers, Lucy shares how motherhood reshaped her worldview, inviting her to question ideological narratives she once championed. Together, we explore what it means to humbly change your mind in a polarized world and why motherhood often becomes the great equalizer, forcing us to think not in slogans, but in legacy.

From fossil fuels and climate activism to the dangers of Marxism and socialism, we navigate some of today’s most polarizing conversations with honesty and curiosity. Because when a topic becomes untouchable, we lose our ability to engage, discern, and build a better future for our children.

This one’s for the mothers (and fathers) willing to hold nuance, question dogma, and plant seeds of truth for the next generation.

In this episode, the two of us reflect on our former six-figure careers in the tech space and how our respective financial trajectories once we became mothers radically changed our lifestyles, world view, and sense of true fulfillment.

This episode is part philosophy and part practicality, however please be advised neither of us is a financial consultant, so none of this is to be taken as financial advice. It’s simply anecdotal.

We answer some money questions you all submitted in our Instagram stories question box.

Money is such a taboo topic. Especially if you are choosing to step back from a high-earning career in favor of living on less and being more present with your children while they’re young. We divulge specific numbers to present an honest assessment of how you can make a single income work.

We're here to agree, hanging your career hat for a few years is totally worth it!

Jamie Glowacki, mom, parenting expert, and acclaimed author of "Oh Crap! I Have a Toddler" and "Oh Crap! Potty Training", joins us for an uncensored conversation on what today’s parents are getting wrong (and right) about raising kids. With more than 25 years of experience working directly with families, Jamie dives deep into popular parenting styles, discipline, emotional regulation, and why the trend of “gentle parenting” can sometimes miss the mark.

We explore hot-button topics like:

  • Why organized sports before age six may do more harm than good
  • How modern culture is infantilizing children
  • Why connection, not perfection, is what kids crave most
  • The role of play in conflict resolution and building resilience
  • How nutrition impacts children’s behavior and emotional regulation
  • The problem with “kindness culture” and how to model real kindness

Jamie also shares the essential parenting style framework of govern, garden, guide, helping parents navigate each stage of childhood in the most effective way. From the dangers of over-scheduling to the necessity of “brutal self-care” for moms, this episode is packed with unfiltered and uncensored practical wisdom, cultural critique, and encouragement for parents raising kids in today’s world.

Feeling inspired after reading Jamie Glowacki’s book “Oh Crap! I Have a Toddler”, the two of us muse on our current top three core values, where these values likely stemmed from, and how, specifically, they shape our parenting decisions.

As Jamie so eloquently puts it, nothing a toddler says or does should theoretically trigger an adult to have an unreasonable, extreme reaction. So, if we are having such a reaction, it’s likely due to an unresolved trigger or childhood wound. The values we place highest on a pedestal stem from what we view as being the most important aspects of functioning in the world, which will look different from person to person depending on how you were raised, your life experiences, relationships, and your temperament.

Just like a Venn diagram, the two of us share some overlap with our core values and then branch off into varied territory. Illustrating how our values play out in real time with our children is where the magic lies. In this episode, we don't aim to tell you which values to hold dearly but how to consider them!

& we want to hear from you! What are your top parenting values and why?

Alaina faced obstacle after obstacle during her first pregnancy, which happened to be a di-di, identical twin girl pregnancy, and her initiation into motherhood resulted in the first twin being born vaginally and the second via cesarean.

Recovering from a c-section plus physical separation for days from her babies due to a NICU stay didn’t deter Alaina from physiologic mothering and tuning into her high nurture intuition.

Alaina walks us through about her mindset, values, and support system which motivated her to break free from the mainstream narrative- especially the one perpetuated in social media- that moms of multiples must pump and rely on formula from day 1, contain their babies in containers, and separate them into their own sleeping spaces despite having spent every day together in the womb.

The two of us philosophize about the distinctions between education versus learning and why even the most prestigious schools are failing today's children.

As moms on the homeschooling track, we reveal how we are reclaiming the lost art of lifelong learning and why we are not subscribing to the school system's broken idea of "education" i.e. memorization, regurgitation and rigid metrics.

We relish in the endless opportunities to shape our children's worldview and share which values are most important for us to cultivate in our children as they transition into older toddlerhood and ultimately young childhood.

Takeaways from our discussion:

  • Nurturing a child's interests can cultivate a lifelong love of learning.
  • Homeschooling doesn't have to be rigid; it can be play-based.
  • Values instilled at home shape a child's worldview.
  • Community plays a vital role in a child's developing group dynamics skills.
  • Food choices impact a child's health and awareness.
  • Creative play is essential for learning and development.
  • Observation and awe are key in developing mindfulness.
  • Breaking free from traditional education can empower children.
  • Language development is fostered through real-world communication.
  • Patience and presence are crucial in nurturing a child's growth.

The #BackOffBobbiecampaign lives on, because someone has to say what Operation Stork Speed refused to: the real risk in formula isn’t just seed oils or trace heavy metals (the red herrings distracting the #MAHA moms). It’s cronobacter, a rare but deadly bacteria that continues to fly under the radar while mommy influencers parade USDA organic labels and metal-free test results like gold stars.

This week, we’re joined by Natasha Vargas-Cooper of Radical Moms Union to expose the uncomfortable truths formula companies don’t want mothers to know. We talk about the fox guarding the hen house of formula testing, the 626 NEC lawsuits filed against major manufacturer Abbott, RFK Jr.'s murky ties to the formula industry, and how social media marketing has become the newest weapon against maternal instinct.

This conversation isn’t about shame. It’s about power:power in knowledge, power in truth, and power in numbers. It’s time to reclaim motherhood from corporate capture. Get involved with RMU if mobilizing mothers to advocate for change makes you excited!

Motherhood demands that we see the beauty and the lessons in the micro moments that most people take for granted while mindlessly scrolling on their phones, rushing out the door, or even when they’re physically present but mentally checked out. The magic of motherhood happens in the quotidian, mundane, messy interactions, not in the elaborate, grand gestures.

The spiritual calling of motherhood is available to every mother; the question is, is every mother ready to answer its call? When our frenetic society obsessed with metrics, productivity, efficiency, and jam-packed schedules is telling us to do more and be more, that should be our cue to slow down and be nowhere else but present. If we aren’t really present for our kids, then what is the point of all of this anyway? What magical, picture-perfect moment are we trying to fast forward to, and why does our culture laud business as if there is no higher honor to achieve?

Join just the two of us as we reflect upon how each of us is deepening our response to the spiritual calling of motherhood.

Is your baby actually a “bad sleeper," or have you just been given bad advice?

In this eye-opening conversation, we’re joined by Brittany Chambers, the voice behind Good Night Moon Child, to explore what modern sleep culture gets so wrong. From the myth of self-soothing to the importance of nervous system regulation, we unpack how attunement, not control, is the missing piece in most sleep advice.

You’ll hear:
- Why sleep starts with the caregiver’s nervous system
- How mainstream sleep training often disregards neurobiological development
- What attuned sleep support actually looks like
- Kat and April’s personal sleep struggles and real-time “aha” moments

If you’re overwhelmed and disheartened by the rigidity of and disassociation with sleep schedules, wake windows, and one-size-fits-all routines, this episode will help you exhale and tune back in to what you and your baby truly need.

This is the sleep episode every mom should hear.

Remember when we were all about baby-led weaning? While many aspects initially appealed to us, and it was admittedly fun to watch our babies feed themselves 100 new foods prior to age 1, our values and priorities have shifted as we have learned what matters most.

Kate Pope, mom of two, nutritionist, certified GAPS practitioner, and founder of the Regenerative Cooking School, explains why and how the GAPS diet is crucial for healing and sealing everyone's gut— from baby's to mom's and beyond— and how the GAPS protocol is what reverses common but not normal symptoms such as eczema, food sensitivities and CMPA (cow's milk protein allergy), just to name a few.

We talk about some taboo foodie topics like the culprit behind the rise in egg and peanut allergies, why sweet potato is not an ideal first food, and those popular plastic food puree pouches our society can't seem to part ways with.

In this episode, we call out the problems that have arisen as a result of adoption of and adherence to the Freebirth Society ideology while also holding space for a woman’s legal and moral right to choose to have a Freebirth.

Ultimately, this is about the need for leaders to act in integrity and for everyone to remember that rarely two truths exist in extremes.

All choices are valid, however in order for them to be authentically empowered, they must be made with true informed consent and an informed risk assessment which is unlikely to happen if a birthworker has solely received a virtual training rooted in biases, hyperbole, and a lack of evidence, just as much as it’s unlikely to happen with a fearful OB who is encouraging weekly routine ultrasounds and a 39 week induction.

We unpack the overused and misused phrase “variations of normal” in order to delineate a few examples of what would actually be abnormal and a reason to seek additional support.

Freebirth continues to be a valid choice, however women deserve to have the full scope of outcomes objectively presented to them in all fairness.

Risk is inherently everywhere, and there will always be a mysterious element to loss, however the key is to walk into your pregnancy with a true sense of confidence and options rather than a false sense of one.

DISCLAIMER: We graciously welcome guests and organizations who may have shared opposing viewpoints on a variety of topics, so as to not perpetuate an echo chamber environment. We recognize we will not align on every topic with every guest we invite. Bruchim does not endorse other stances and philosophies we have shared in various episodes of our podcast. We encourage respectful discourse, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have interviewed Eli.

In part two of our Circumcision series, we are joined by a Jewish man! Rarely do we ever have a man on our podcast, but because this is a practice performed on men— and often times, Jewish men— we needed to hear Eli's takes directly from the source.

Eli Ungar-Sargon is the Founding Executive Board member of the non-profit, Bruchim, and host of the Bruchim podcast. Eli grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family in Brookline, MA. At the age of 13, he and his family moved to Israel, where he later decided not to serve in the Israel Defense Forces. Instead, he chose to study medicine in the UK. Three years into his medical degree, Eliyahu shifted his focus to filmmaking. After earning two degrees from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he completed his first feature-length documentary, Cut: Slicing Through the Myths of Circumcision.

Bruchim's mission is to advocate for non-circumcising Jews in Jewish life, and to educate about the rich diversity of Jewish perspectives on circumcision and its alternatives.

We discuss:

  • What was the pivotal moment that shaped Eli's opinion about circumcision?
  • Can you still be considered Jewish if you are not circumcised?
  • What's the alternative to a bris?
  • How do Eli's personal views about circumcision compare to Bruchim's views as an organization?
  • Is there a positive trend of Jewish families globally opting out of circumcision?
  • How to be critical of circumcision without entering antisemitic territory?
  • What are common antisemitic tropes about circumcision?
  • How do you have tough conversations with other members of the tribe about circumcision?

We kick off our two-part Circumcision series— a topic you all have been begging us to cover for the last two years!— with none other than the Executive Director and Chairperson of Intact America, Georganne Chapin MPhil, JD.

There is nothing we shy away from in this episode. Don't worry, we don't walk on any egg shells. While debunking common circumcision myths, like how this surgery helps to prevent UTIs, STDs, and HIV, is fun and intriguing, Georganne reminds us that it's important to shift our focus away from debunking myths (don't worry, we still do!) and instead onto exercising our innate common sense about the necessity of this practice. You'll hear about the origins of this surgery, which countries do it and why, and the undeniably uncomfortable details of the procedure itself. This isn't for the faint of heart, but if you are going to put your son through this, then you should know what it entails, FULLY.

Georganne explains why circumcision is not exclusively a men's issue, and why circumcision has a lasting effect on women from the mothers of circumcised sons to the future female partners of circumcised men. Women DO have a voice in the circumcision debate, and soon-to-be moms should not sit on the sidelines while tasking their husbands to call the shots on this permanent, life-altering choice on behalf of their son.

We learn about the lasting trauma of the procedure, the function and benefit of foreskin, how the trends and stats have changed over time in regard to the choice to circumcise, and why we prefer the term "intact" over "uncircumcised."

What can we Westerners learn about raising intrinsically happy, self-sufficient, and helpful children from the Maya of Mexico, the Inuit of the Arctic Circle and the Hadza of Tanzania? Well, it turns out, a lot!

WEIRD cultures (Western, educated, industrialized, rich, and democratic) have been making parenting unnecessarily more difficult than it was designed to be. From helicopter and free-range parenting, to distracting children instead of intentionally involving them in quotidian household responsibilities, we are unwittingly becoming the source of our modern-day parenting grievances.

With the help of Michaeleen Doucleff, mother and New York Times best-selling author of one of our favorite reads, “Hunt Gather Parent,” we break down modern-day parenting myths and turn to our much wiser, indigenous peers for the practical tips we’re all yearning for when we are in the trenches of motherhood.

Back in our original fashion exchanging our uncensored opinions between just the two of us, we examine whether it is possible to maintain friendships with people who see the world through a different lens.

We analyze when it is possible and even encouraged to maintain friendships with people who have opposing viewpoints versus when this feat proves to be a fruitless effort.

We share personal anecdotes which illustrate when our differences with others have brought us closer together and when these fundamental differences have driven us farther apart, and if that means the end of the friendship for good.

We philosophize about the impact topics like politics and medical freedom have over our friendships and whether it matters if your closest friends are virtual or in person.

In an age of dogma and division, we emphasize the lost art of toeing the line of nuance.

Join us for more of these dicussions on the inside of our virtual community, rebelliUS.

Today’s guest, Jennifer Lahl, is the founder of The Center for Bioethics and Culture Network. Lahl couples her 25 years of experience as a pediatric critical care nurse, a hospital administrator, and a senior-level nursing manager with a deep passion to speak up for those who have no voice.

Women are often sold on surrogacy, IVF, and sperm donation as either a beautiful way to help a family in need or the best solution to their fertility issues. The problems with the solutions Big Fertility pushes extend beyond a lack of informed consent; there are not only significant medical risks for moms and their future children (which are often downplayed or not mentioned at all) as well as bioethical concerns which many have never even considered until well after consenting to one of these reproduction methods.

If we continue on this transhumanist trajectory, we can expect so see the normalization and encouragement of artificial eggs and wombs.

On the bright side, the tides are turning. Countries are waking up to the harms of some of these practices and setting firm boundaries to protect women and children. Some countries, like America, unfortunately still operate like the Wild West and put the wellbeing of mothers and children last at the expense of the desires of intended parents. Thanks to spreading awareness, women are realizing they have other, more biologically-supportive and ethical options when it comes to starting a family.

Mom of two (including one who experienced a vaccine injury), toxicologist, and creator of the must read, comprehensive Vaccine Guide drops some jaw-dropping bombshells that will make you think twice about the safety, efficacy, ethics, and necessity of these routine shots.

We talk about the tragic human sacrifices who were callously exploited for the sake of growing viruses in aborted fetal cells. The ingredients in vaccines will make your stomach churn— and no, we’re not just talking about the well-known and widely discussed neurotoxic aluminum.

We also discuss the superiority of natural immunity verses artificial immunity via vaccination and the longterm benefit of allowing our bodies to encounter sickness in the wild without synthetic interference. Specifically, we learn about which cancers you are at a lesser risk of having as a result of acquiring natural immunity from certain "vaccine preventable" illnesses.

You’ll hear us talk about the role breastmilk antibodies play from the start of life as well as the importance of honoring the divine order of growth from a spiritual standpoint.

Despite the benefits we acknowledge that homeopathy provides, we talk about why we are against homeoprophylaxis as a “safer” alternative to vaccines. We also learn why vitamin D supplementation is not only pointless but also to some degree harmful.

This conversation is sure to make your head spin in the best way!

Pamela “came out” as “the truthful therapist” a few years ago on the basis of her simply speaking the truth. Not HER truth, but rather the truth. This of course offended many (unsurprisingly); however, through her commitment to bust myths propagated by the transhumanist agenda which preys upon our vulnerable and impressionable youth, she has successfully forged her own path as a trailblazer for other therapists who are not woke and equally committed to helping children accept the body they were born into rather than affirming a lie.

Mandolyn Crotts, mom of two and founder of Carry Them Ministries in Nigeria, revealed the horrifying, fatal obstetric practices, fear of breastfeeding and dangerous promotion of infant formula which is responsible for the demise of so many babies.

Here in America we often hear trite slogan such as “fed as best!” to make women feel better about formula usage. However in a place like Nigeria, formula feeding is actually killing babies, and breastfeeding saves lives.

We learn about the heartbreaking lies women have been told from fearful and misogynistic doctors and nurses who know nothing about birth or breastfeeding. Separation of motherbaby from day 1 is not only common, but it’s extremely normal. Even skin-to-skin is viewed as dangerous.

There is a light at the end of this dark tunnel, and that is the success stories of babies who transformed from “failure to thrive” as a result of risky formula consumption, to full on thriving thanks to Mandolyn and team’s lactation support which includes some unconventional methods often overlooked here in the Western world.

And of course we couldn’t ignore the current culture wars, especially in light of La Leche League’s woke inclusion policies. Hear what Mandolyn has to say about “inclusive” breastfeeding vernacular in a place like Nigeria where babies are literally on the brink of death.

If you are feeling inspired by Mandolyn’s mission, please consider making a financial donation at carrythem.org.

In similar fashion to last year, your two favorite moms reminisce and unpack big lessons learned from our second year of motherhood. A couple of big highlights to call out are April’s departure from the corporate world and into her dream role as full-time, stay-at-home mom to Eden and Kat’s transition from one to two children.

This reflection is all about humility and recognizing the true fruits of motherhood.

Tune in if you want to hear the rawness and realness from our 2nd year as mothers and co-hosts, and what we'd do differently next go 'round!

Thank you for your continued support of Moms Off The Record. We would love to hear, what have you learned from this year?

Matrescence is defined as the process of becoming a mother, however this is a term that hardly anyone has ever heard of; even women who have recently become mothers.

Holly, mother of two, women’s circle leader, and former ICU nurse reflects on the experiences that led to her deep appreciation for and curiosity of matrescence. Our fast-paced, modern, industrial, Western culture tells us to snap back just weeks after giving birth, however brain scans will tell us this is actually physically impossible to do.

Everyone knows what to expect during puberty when a girl morphs into a woman, however nobody talks about what to expect during the next major transition from maiden to mother or even the final major shift from motherhood to perimenopause and finally menopause.

Kat’s Birthkeeper Ali Coulas joins us today. We learn about her spiritual path to becoming a Labor & Delivery nurse as well as what led her out of the system and into the sovereign birth world, where Kat was her first sovereign birth she attended. We venture to answer questions like:

  • What does it actually mean to “hold space” for women?
  • How can birthkeepers hold just enough space without encroaching too closely on a woman or just being a distant fly on the wall?
  • How do yin (feminine) and yang (masculine) energies manifest themselves in labor and birth, and what does this mean for the type of birth we can expect to experience?

We also delve into Kat’s false pre-eclampsia diagnosis which Ali discovered after reviewing Kat’s medical records from her first birth. You won't want to miss this! Unfortunately, birth sabotage happens all the time in the system, and you get to hear a few stories of this blatant practice in today's episode.

Hello, friends! We’re back just the two of us like old times.

Kat kicks off this episode reflecting on how wildly different her first birth with her son was compared to her redemptive, sovereign homebirth outside the medical industrial complex- with her daughter just 26 months later.

Kat’s initiation into motherhood in 2022 involved bait-and-switches, homebirth medwifery sabotage, and an unhealthy fixation on blood pressure resulting in fear mongering, a distrust and pathology of birth, a hospital transfer, false pre-eclampsia diagnosis, and ultimately a c-section.

Fast forward 17 months when Kat discovered she was pregnant with her second baby after just the first try (thanks Anisa Woodall!)

Kat recounts her journey from deprogramming and unlearning everything she thought she ever knew about birth, to becoming fully embodied, taking radical responsibility for her birth choices, and completely surrendering and trusting every step of the process.

All of this laid the groundwork for having a mother-led, intuitive, homebirth in the absence of any licensed provider in favor of the unconditional support of her husband and radical birthkeeper Ali. No cervical checks, membrane sweeps, induction, doing anything to “get labor going,” ultrasounds, Doppler, suggestions or threats of a hospital transfer, coached pushing, or management of the third stage of labor.

Kat also discusses the process of obtaining a birth certificate when you choose to give birth outside of the system and answers questions you posed about the birth on Instagram.

  • The lack of informed consent and painful disassociation she observed with women undergoing common ART treatments such as IVF and egg freezing.
  • How and why Kristin embraced womb healing and its ties to birthing fully embodied and in your power and authority.
  • Thoughts on pap smears and other invasive pelvic exams
  • Signs of estrogen imbalances and what they mean
  • Allopathic/Western medicine's approach vs. the Chinese medicine approach

Morgan a.k.a. @VeryCrunchyMama unveils some hard truths about the correlations between the consumption of artificial food dyes— which are sadly ubiquitous and hidden in foods you would never suspect— and children's behavior and chronic disease.

We discuss the deceptive name changes that recently went into effect with these toxic dyes as well as what each of us would do in a scenario where our children were offered food dyes.

Towards the end, Morgan differentiates between "cleanwashing" vs. "greenwashing" and how to keep it simple when it comes to transitioning away from toxic household chemicals and into a lifestyle abundant in minimalism and holistic health.

Lisa Hendrickson-Jack is a certified Fertility Awareness Educator and Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioner who trains women’s health practitioners to use their menstrual cycle as a vital sign in their practices. She is the founder of the Fertility Awareness Mastery Mentorship program. She is the author of three bestselling books: Real Food For Fertility (co-authored with Lily Nichols), The Fifth Vital Sign, and the Fertility Awareness Mastery Charting Workbook.

In this episode we discuss:

  • Why the non-hormonal IUD really isn't so benign despite some women preferring this birth control method.
  • The science behind how cervical fluid is a powerful indicator of your overall health and cervical cell health
  • The mechanics of how ovulation works from estrogen levels, LH and follicle ripeness
  • Why the feminist movement's programming that men and women should be equal in every respect has backfired specifically as it relates to how we move through life during the different phases in our cycle and throughout the feminine cycles of our lifetime (menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause).
  • Why reliance on cycle tracking apps alone as a way to plan or prevent pregnancy is not sufficient and what the best marker of fertility actually is.
  • What is common vs. what is normal in regard to ovulation and our menstrual cycles
  • Why sperm counts have been on the decline since the 1940s and by how much
  • The specific role men play in the fertility equation and just how much agency both men and women have in regard to ameliorating their fertility outcomes through lifestyle choices
  • Considerations to ponder in regard to IVF

Since we have yet to unravel the profound topic of pregnancy loss, particularly from a sovereign woman's perspective, we invite you to witness Alex's moving story of the loss of her daughter Lila in the moments after birth.

Alex chose to experience a wild pregnancy— a pregnancy outside the obstetric industrial complex, devoid of ultrasounds, blood work, measuring, tracking, and testing— and despite the emotional suffering she endured as a result of her tragic loss, she explains why she would not hesitate to proceed with another wild pregnancy and freebirth the second time around.

We discuss themes such as the fine line between birth and death, how nobody and no technology can "save" us, the way our society views miscarriage and stillbirth in the hospital vs. at home, setting boundaries with well-meaning yet fearful friends and family, and we hear Alex's theory on the likely cause of death of her sweet baby girl.

Follow Alex on instagram and DM her to join her virtual loss support group.

Regardless of whether you've experienced a miscarriage or stillbirth or where you chose to give birth, you are welcome to join Alex's support group.

Most holistic-minded moms already know screen time is objectively bad and try to limit it or only rely on it as a brief, last-resort. But, just how bad is it really?

Melanie Hempe, mother of four and the founder of the non-profit ScreenStrong, keeps it 100% real with us when divulging the truth about the way screen time is robbing our children of a healthy and happy childhood.

  • What effects interacting with a device whether it’s a tablet, iPhone, or television have on a child’s developing brain, and why should parents think twice about when and whether to introduce screens to their children?
  • Is there such a thing as “good” types of screen time or screens in moderation?
  • What about low-stimulating shows for short periods of time?

We of course also had to discuss the alarming, modern phenomenon of children glued to iPads while out to restaurants.

In our tech-obsessed society, is it even realistic to expect parents to forego screens for their children such as refusing to give children smartphones for the first 18 years of life?

Kristen is a former NICU nurse of nearly a decade who saw some things she cannot unsee. Her great awakening transpired during the COVID madness, and she does not hold back when we ask her what she witnessed behind the scenes in the NICU and in the hospital setting as a whole, as well as what she bravely endured with her very own children.

Kristen walks us through the vaccine injuries she witnessed amongst her three children, and what she wishes she knew as a former NICU nurse prior to becoming "awake".

We find out what parents of NICU babies need to know and how they can best arm themselves prior to the daunting NICU experience. Find out how the NICU does not practice informed consent and which shots are routinely administered to your baby regardless of your baby's weight or condition.

  • Which states are the best in regard to exercising medical freedom according to Kristen?
  • What are the most unethical and non-evidence based practices Kristen witnessed imposted upon our most vulnerable population— premature babies— during her time in the NICU?
  • And a question many of you have posed to us directly in email: what's the best vaccine protocol for a premature baby?

This is not your typical potty training pep talk. Nicole breaks down potty training the Go Diaper Free way. This method is aligned with how our wise women ancestors successfully got their babies out of diapers no later than 18 months old without bribes, sticker charts, shame, and coercion.

How and why did we get to where we are today— a time when diapering our children well beyond 2-3 years old has been normalized and in some cases even encouraged? What are the real signs of "readiness" when it comes to potty training?

We sit down with the one and only Lily Nichols, RDN & CDE— author of Real Food for Gestational Diabetes, Real Food for Pregnancy, and her latest work, Real Food for Fertility, to set the record straight and debunk myths about some of the most common preconception and pregnancy routine practices and complications. The nutritional choices we make do have an impact on all of these areas, and the mainstream medical paradigm is slow to adapt, per usual.

In this episode we discussed:

  • What is the real deal with the infamous glucose test? Why is the artificial orange drink a.k.a. Glucola the “gold standard” when testing women for Gestational Diabetes, and what are the shortcomings with the 50g, 75g, and 100g screening tests?
  • How can Gestational Diabetes be managed, and what is the problem with the mainstream medical model’s current guidelines for GD management?
  • When it comes to preconception and fertility, we of course have to mention The Pill. What must women know about their fertility when coming off the pill, and how does hormonal birth control impact future fertility outcomes and nutrient stores?
  • What is recurrent miscarriage and how can women uncover the root cause?
  • Male Factor Fertility— what is one thing all men can do across the board to contribute to the fertility equation, since we know they play a role in this too?
  • What is the biggest scam with mainstream advice given for gestational hypertension, and what guidance should women follow instead?

Oni, an Atlanta-based postpartum doula and single, homeschooling mom to two daughters aged eight and ten reveals her methods for making her non-traditional lifestyle work for her rather than against her. We loved the gentle wisdom and powerful reminders woven into this interview and we hope they resonate just as much with you.

We delve into concepts such as: the importance of veering away from the martyrdom mindset in motherhood * Oni's abandonment of the feminist movement and her calling to homeschool her two girls * how single motherhood does not have to pose a barrier to homeschooling and/or your career * how we women need to lean on our local community in person, not just online*, for holistic support * the delicate balance of setting boundaries and showing up as her authentic self as a postpartum doula while also staying open-minded to clients' varying needs * the debacle of the night shift as a postpartum doula— does it help or hinder the breastfeeding relationship within the mother-baby dyad? * how we don't have to and should not try to be everything to everyone when serving clients in our business * how to know when it's the right time to take an overnight trip without your little one

The (K)at is finally out of the bag! Kat is expecting baby #2!! It would be a little weird if we withheld the most compelling aspects of this pregnancy as two moms who host a podcast dedicated to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, so we of course had to divulge the details. Plus, this is too exciting not to share!

Kat fearlessly addresses some elephants in the room, explains what she will confidently be opting into vs. declining during her pregnancy, what distinguishes this pregnancy from her last pregnancy, and we will wrap up with a Q&A from those of you who dropped your questions into our recent IG stories box.

Hilda Labradore Gore is the host and producer of Wise Traditions— the official Weston A. Price Foundation podcast.

Hilda brings her innate positivity, decades-long wisdom on ancestral practices, and exuberant demeanor to the virtual table where the three of us discuss topics such as:

  • How do we know which food movements du jour are truly right for us? Raw Milk and beef liver are all the rage now, but before that everyone was talking about Paleo, Keto, Pegan, Raw before 4pm and the list goes on.
  • Should we be concerned with the latest measles "outbreak"?
  • How can we embrace the "80/20" lifestyle with what we know about artificial food dyes, glyphosate, and other false foods that hijack our taste buds?
  • What are Hilda's favorite go-to simple, nutrient-dense snacks for young children and dinners for the entire family?
  • What is one simple way we can deepen our connection and strengthen our relationship with our children?
  • How we can nourish our families outside of diet?
  • Food fads that will not age will such as the normalization of seed oils and lab-grown meat!

We absolutely loved our conversation with Hilda! As her IG handle suggests, she has a completely holistic perspective on caring for ourselves and our families, and her warmth beams during this interview. We hope you gleaned as much inspiration and wisdom from this upbeat and enlightening conversation as we did.

We hear from Speech and Language Pathologist Maria Gianfilippo, Founder of Organic Speech Therapy, about what it takes to raise talkative babies and toddlers.

First, it’s important to know what the milestones and averages are in regard to spoken words by specific age targets. Yes, every child does develop at his or her own pace; however, within reason.

We reflect upon the main contributors to a burgeoning vocabulary versus speech delays that should raise red flags.

We learn about optimal environments and lifestyles parents can embody in order to maximize their child’s communication capacity.

We’ll discuss why TV shows are not an appropriate substitute for 1:1 human interaction when it comes to teaching our children. It's a tough pill to swallow, but even the "educational programs" are not ideal. TV is a tool and we need to treat it as such.

You’ll also hear about the “wait and see” approach still recommended by pediatricians and the main reasons why speech delays have been on a significant rise over the last few years.

Learn about the benefits of bi-, tri-, and quadlingualism.

Hear all about the MOTR approach to baby-led weaning. In this episode, we share our takes on:

  • what we think of baby-led weaning
  • how it’s different from simply “starting solids”
  • overcoming obstacles mothers face when considering solids (fear of choking, allergens, breastfeeding relationships, etc).
  • why we don’t care about added sodium for infants and what that evidence actually says (hint: it’s inconclusive)
  • how we feel about purée pouches and stereotypical “baby food”
  • why your pediatrician is not the expert on baby-led weaning
  • signs of readiness and why anything under 6 months old is too young to start solids

Stay tuned for part 2 for an even deeper dive on meals we offer our children, BLW hacks, staying the course during travel and dining out, and so much more.

Some women want two under two so they can “get the baby phase over with” in one fell swoop. Other women intentionally space their children 3+ years apart for various reasons such as socioeconomic and health.

Whether you are currently considering conscious or unconscious conception, the choice of how far apart to space your babies can impact you in ways beyond what you may have imagined.

So, what is the best interpregnancy interval between children? Is there even such a thing? Is one length more optimal than another? There are both objective and subjective answers behind this enigma.

We polled our loyal followers in our Instagram stories back in November about what the “perfect” age gap is between children, and we share those results along with your reasoning.

We also share the risks, benefits, pros and cons of short and long interpregnancy intervals. Did any of these surprise you?

If you are curious on what the latest evidence says about optimal pregnancy spacing, we read excerpts from the “Pregnancy Spacing” chapter in Lily Nichols’ book “Real Food for Pregnancy.”

The bottom line is- like everything that has to do with motherhood choices- only YOU will know the best interpregnancy interval for your body and your family. There are several factors that need to be considered beyond your and your baby’s physical health and well being- all of which we unpack during this episode.

We kick off season 2 of Moms Off The Record and sit down with our friend and fellow radical mom, Lizzie Bolliger who you probably know as “Fierce Lizzie” to hear about her three births, what inspired her to leave her day job as a teacher and transition into a career as a doula on her terms.

We discuss the difference between “natural” and physiologic birth misnomers, whether any intervention is “natural,” circumventing hospital policies and rules, how we all really feel about the anatomy ultrasound, the truth about placenta previa diagnosis, and the difference between feeling empowered and being empowered.

Lizzie also shares a typical day in her life starting from the crack of dawn when she wakes up until 9pm when she calls it a night. As a business owner, doula, and podcaster who also homeschools her three children; how does she manage to juggle it all? She shares her mom and business woman hacks.

As we approach 2024 and our almost one year anniversary of co-hosting Moms Off The Record podcast, we humbly and candidly reflect on all the things we either changed our minds about or would do differently with baby #2.

We talk about what it means to be “above the line” vs. “below the line” as per “The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership”

We each share topics about which we’re okay with being self-righteous versus ones where we’re open-minded and curious.

Find out where we changed our minds and why we would take a different approach with:

  • Exercising during pregnancy and postpartum
  • The pushing phase during birth
  • Daycare

We sit down with Dr. Paul Thomas (yes, that one!) of The Vaccine-Friendly Plan for an uncensored discussion on vaccines in childhood and pregnancy. Dr. Paul divulges answers to all the vaccine questions you wish you could ask your captured OBGYN, pediatrician, and/or MEDwife.

WATCH the video interview here.

  • Dr. Paul breaks down the axiom “safe and effective.”
  • What is safe yet not effective? What is effective yet not safe?
  • What about all those vaccines your OB or MEDwife is recommending you receive during pregnancy? How safe are they?
  • Is vaccine “shedding” a thing, and should we be concerned? How does shedding work?
  • Why Dr. Paul can no longer in good faith recommend his delayed vaccine plan and what changed.
  • Dr. Paul explains the conclusions discovered from his famous meta analysis.
  • He demystifies the financial corruption behind the Pediatrics profession.

Dr. Paul also shares his story and why he was pressured into forfeiting his medical license despite doing no harm. He imparts sage advice for anyone desiring to become a pediatrician today.

We are honored and humbled to interview none other than Just the Inserts who up until just a few weeks ago has been fully anonymous since the inception of her Instagram account 3 years ago. Now, she is allowing the public to hear her voice, and although we had the pleasure of seeing her face on camera for this very special recording, we are respectfully shielding her face from our social media for her and her family’s safety at this time.

We learn from Just The Inserts:

  • What her personal “why” is and what inspired her to start her account
  • Why Instagram initially took down her account despite how she only shared what the package inserts say verbatim from the FDA
  • Her daughter’s vitamin K shot adverse reaction plus Katherine’s vitamin K shot anecdote with her midwives
  • Why America’s medical system is actually socialized rather than capitalized like most are led to believe
  • Why sharing objective truths such as the literal package inserts for pharmaceuticals is “controversial” even if all personal biases are omitted
  • What’s in store for the future of Just The Inserts?

Please give Just The Inserts and Just The Alternatives a follow!

We learn from Anisa Woodall, MS CN:

  • Why vegan and vegetarian diets (particularly non ovo-lacto) are not only unethical during preconception and pregnancy but also dangerous to mom and baby.
  • What prompted Anisa to transition from plant-based to animal based once she entered nutrition school.
  • Why certain “health foods” like açaí aren’t actually as nutrient dense as we believe and which nutrients we need to prioritize for optimal fertility instead.
  • How much epigenetic impact both parents have on their future baby during the preconception period through their diet, lifestyle and environment verses what their genetics will dictate.
  • Which specific lifestyle changes women actually need to optimize to increase their odds of having a healthy pregnancy on their desired timeline.

Isabella Malbin, the host of the Whose Body Is It podcast, is also a life-coach, hypnotist and former "liberal" feminist turned radical truth teller.

Isabella shares what initially peaked her years ago; euphemistic, sanitized terms like “belly birth” in lieu of cesarean section is just one example.

We hear why she was kicked out of her Fertility Awareness Training program and why her Doula training program found her vernacular rooted in truth and refusal to erase “women” and “mother” from her vocabulary to be a threat.

Why none of us on this recording use pronouns.

Isabella theorizes on the root cause of the uprising of female erasure in language amongst most birth workers. Why is “inclusive language” actually more harmful than innocuous? Isn’t there a seat for everyone at the table?

We debate the question “just because you can do something, does it mean you should?” when it comes to ART (assisted reproductive technology).

Why do some cultures justify surrogacy whereas others accept pregnancy may not be in the cards?

Are guilt and shame actually healthy reactions to our choices instead of emotions we should aim to avoid?

Donate to Isabella’s friend Marva Zohar’s nonprofit, Land Where Women Heal, so Israeli survivors of the Hamas attacks can receive life-saving services.

Per your request, we recorded this raw, introspective, humble and at times humorous look into how some of our closest friendships shifted- for better or worse- once we became moms.

We share the awkward, odd, and redemptive friendship renaissances and demises. Friendships aside, we analyze how the relationships with our husbands changed since becoming parents. Do we believe our children “come first” or we as a couple “come first?”

You’ll have to tune in to find out. Lastly, we reflect on how we see our moms differently since becoming moms ourselves.

Since we’re not fans of the term “stay-at-home mom” because of its implications that the mom doesn’t really “work” but rather just chills out at home, we’re comparing our lives as a full-time mom at home vs. a full-time working (in the traditional corporate sense) from home mom. That was a mouthful!

Context: Kat resigned from her high-pressure, corporate career two months prior to her son’s birth and never returned to work- by choice- and he is now 14 months old (at the time this episode aired). April returned to her full-time corporate career in a work-from-home arrangement when her daughter was 4 months old. April’s daughter is weeks away from her first birthday (also at the time of this episode airing).

We discuss the highs and lows, pros and cons, what we are looking forward to the most, and what we are grateful for with our respective situations. We also share our tips for moms on how to vet high quality and trustworthy childcare at the end of this episode.

In today’s highly-anticipated episode, we call the most riveting takeaways from the Lancet’s Breastfeeding Series.
What you will learn:

  • The history of CMF (commercial milk formula)
  • What “the code” is, why it’s not enforced, and how CMF manufacturers circumvent or directly violates the code at the expense of mothers’ and babies’ health
  • The specific Machiavellian marketing strategies that CMF players implement globally in order to capitalize on, exploit, and hoodwink women into believing formula is better for their babies
  • What is at stake for moms, babies, and society when breastfeeding is substituted with formula
  • The myth and misleading nature of the push for “gender equality” & our thoughts on positive vs. harmful feminism and its ties to corporatism, the schism of the nuclear family, and how it all relates to how we feed our babies
  • The precise playbook CMFs use to dupe mothers and undermine breastfeeding
  • How “experts” spanning from midwives & nurses to doctors & scientists have been bought and paid for and cannot be blindly trusted

If this episode left you feeling angry at CMFs, you're not alone. We leave you with the our call to action for what can be done to help promote and support breastfeeding.
What ideas do you have to promote exclusive breastfeeding so women are no longer taken advantage of by greedy companies whose claims are completely unsubstantiated by “the science”? Email us or send us an audio note/DM on instagram.

The MOTR moms are back! In today's episode, we welcome Nicole Cheever who is a mom of three, Elimination Communication connoisseur, and co-host of the Go Diaper Free podcast for an illuminating and humbling conversation on all things EC (Elimination Communication).

Nicole also reveals how and when the diaper industry began prying its avaricious claws into busy moms and the downward spiral our modern lifestyle rooted in convenience culture has detrimental psychological and physical impacts when we choose to leave kids in diapers well into toddlerhood and beyond.

EC doesn't have to be this all or nothing endeavor that only crunchy full-time stay-at-home moms can accomplish. Also, Nicole dissects the assumption that prematurely pottying kids is "traumatic". After listening to today's episode, you'll hopefully feel assured that regardless of your prior traumas or pitfalls with EC'ing and potty-training and despite your children's ages, you can take simple actions and make mindset shifts to successfully EC and ultimately fully potty train starting right now.

We chat about everything from hair loss, engorgement, body image and physical changes, moods and how our brains changed, our husbands and the support we received, how we’re different now 7-10 months postpartum vs. in the first couple of weeks, and some other TMI topics 😉.

We'd love to hear your experiences with postpartum, especially if you're a first time mom! Be sure to head over to @momsofftherecordpod on IG and share your stories!

The moms sit down with the one and only Dr. Stu Fischbein of the Birthing Instincts podcast. Like April and Kat, Dr. Stu is 100% unfiltered, uncensored, and unafraid of challenging the establishment. This episode highlights some of our favorite Dr. Stu-isms. We hear his take on:

  • How and why the obstetrics model of care is broken, stemming all the way from Residency to Peer Reviewed papers
  • Fully trusting our bodies at every stage of womanhood
  • Why for the first time in history the powers that be are recommending untested jabs on pregnant women
  • “Standard of care” and “informed consent”
  • What the Arrive Trial is and why it’s bogus
  • Why it’s valid to have a healthy dose of skepticism in regard to ACOG guidelines and medical journal conclusions
  • Vitamin K shot: relative vs. actual risk, the Vitamin K drops, and more
  • Why vaginal breech and twin births have been on the decline
  • How women who desire to have an at-home breech or twin birth can find resources
  • Why more women are turning to free/wild birth
  • “Stage 1 thinking”
  • What makes the OB profession unique (hint: it’s not the ability to perform a c-section)
  • How fear is the most powerful driver behind decisions
  • “Cognitive dissonance”
  • What unethical medical care looks like

Today's very special guest is none other than Kat's mom, Robin Kier! As a mom of 4 kids (two from her first marriage and two step-kids from her second marriage), a former R.N. of 15 years and a former flight attendant of nearly 20 years, Robin brings a wealth of maternal wisdom, mom-tuition, and insights to the table.

We discuss everything from what drove her into early retirement from the flight attendant career she loved, her takeaways from nursing school and the changes she is witnessing now, the weirdness of the Gardasil and flu jabs, her stance on masking and the "C" jab, and how she knew real animal fats were always healthier than seed oils and fake "butter" and margarine way before it was cool to know that. As usual, we wrap up with questions from our instagram followers.

We are over masks and so are 96% of you, our lovely instagram followers. If you truly follow the science, then you are over them too.

In this episode, we channel one of our core tenets at MOTR: critical thinking. We discuss the moments when we woke up and pulled the mask off for good, why we refuse to wear them, when and if we make exceptions, and we share some personal anecdotes along the way. We also share two of the wildest answers we received from you all on Instagram when we ran a poll about mask wearing.

Nothing is off the table- pun intended- with holistic chiropractor Dr. Madalyn Turner. In this episode, we learn how she’s able to improve pregnancy outcomes (think shorter labor, for one), thanks to her training and expertise in perinatal chiropractic care. Kat, Julian, and even Erik have all seen Dr. Maddy throughout different seasons of life.

We learn all about the contributors and symptoms of nervous system dysregulation, the benefits of the Webster technique, how babies as young as one day old can benefit from seeing a chiro, and Dr. Maddy debunks myths about what chiropractic care actually is. Dr. Maddy also shares what inspired her to delve into the Fertility Awareness Method and Reiki.

As a staunch medical freedom advocate, we ask Dr. Maddy her take on why some medical professionals and birth workers in the community had a disconnect between what they learned in school about how our immune systems work and how that translated into their practice with masking and v@xing.

Oh, and we talk about the scams behind insurance companies and why Dr. Maddy’s practice is cash pay by design. You won't want to miss this one!

April’s midwife Amanda made a significant impact on her home birth experience, so we had to invite her on the pod to get a glimpse into her "why" and hear her perspectives on physiologic birth and more!

We kick things off by learning about how Amanda got her start in midwifery. Amanda shares her philosophy on physiologic birth and interventions during pregnancy. The three of us discuss our theories on why women and society as a whole doubts our bodies’ ability to birth naturally. Amanda tells us about her least favorite interventions for completely healthy moms with normal pregnancies, and more importantly, why these are her least favorite. Because at MOTR we are all about bodily autonomy and empowered decision-making, we are huge fans of HBACs (home birth after cesarean) and VBACs (vaginal birth after cesarean). We learn about some of the implications and roadblocks involved in being a midwife in the state of Georgia vs. other states and share some ideas for how to find an HBAC-supportive practitioner. Also, we can’t ignore the elephant in the room— at least among the crunchy mom community— and that is the rise in MEDwives and dwindling of midwives. We each hypothesize why medwives are becoming more ubiquitous, and no; they’re no longer primarily tied to the hospital system. We wrap up our conversation with a rapid-fire Q&A from YOU, our loyal instagram followers.

Infant sleep is one of the most polarizing topics in the baby community, and in true MOTR fashion, we do not hold back.

We break down all the sleep myths including how you can’t “train” your baby to sleep and bed-sharing leads to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (it is actually protective against it!).

Yes we’re biased, however don’t just take it from us; we cite our sources who are the actual experts in this field including James McKenna Ph.D. of “Safe Infant Sleep” and Dr. Sarah Buckley of “Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering.”

We explore the perceived “risks” the predatory infant sleep industry wants you to believe and share the myriad benefits (for mom and baby) of bed-sharing, and if that's not your cup of tea, co-sleeping.

For sleep deprived moms, we discuss our favorite creative ways to catch up on sleep that do not involve sleep training your baby, watching the clock or letting your baby "cry it out".

Oh, and we answer a couple of interesting questions our listeners submitted- we've got your backs!

We recognize infant sleep is not a one-size-fits-all approach for every family, however it’s also not as black and white as putting your baby in a crib “drowsy but awake”.

While we both prepped for, and manifested, a home birth, Katherine’s hope for a peaceful out-of-hospital birth took a wild turn after an unexpected medical complication arose and did not stabilize. Hear why she fired her first provider, was fired by her second provider, then switched providers from home birth midwives to an OBGYN a week before her baby boy was born. You will hear how she stood her ground and still exercised her birth rights despite her dwindling options.

You will also hear how April applied everything she learned about physiological birth from months of research and childbirth education, to put mind over body and birth her baby at home despite a very close call during late labor, along with a period of dysfunctional pushing which nearly required a hospital transfer. Find out what April told her back-up OB and how her team of midwives and doulas gave her the clarity and support she needed to get out of her thinking brain and into her primitive brain to bring her baby earth-side.

Our births could not be more different, and we each overcame obstacles even our research and prep could not have prepared us for in advance.

It goes without saying that every mom is grateful to have a healthy baby, however our birth experiences as mothers also matter and have a lasting impact. Knowing your options and having the confidence to speak up can be the difference between an empowered and informed birth and one that leaves you at the mercy of your practitioner’s wishes.

“I’ll just go with the flow and see what happens!” is not a phrase you will hear from us…at least in regard to giving birth. In this episode, our aim is to remind you of your autonomy in your birth.

We tell you not only what we included in our birth plans but more importantly why we made our choices. We hope to bring awareness to the myriad options you have when it comes to bringing your baby earthside!

Along the way, we share pointers in regard to the format and content of our birth plans, what we changed our minds about, and of course, we can’t leave out the hot topic of newborn interventions.

Although our birth plans were similar, our actual births were wildly different. You will learn about all the options you truly have despite hospital or practitioner protocol or policy, and by the time you finish this rather lengthy episode, we hope you feel inspired and empowered to plan for the birth of dreams, no matter how or where you envision giving birth.

So often we’re told the benefits we’ll reap as a result of hormonal birth control and IUDs, but are we ever given informed consent on the physical and emotional risks? How empowering is it to believe your best or only options to plan and prevent pregnancy are from pharmaceuticals that trick your body into believing it’s pregnant or an intrauterine device that can become dislodged?

In this episode, we discuss what real female empowerment looks like when it comes to planning and preventing pregnancy on our own terms without the pill or IUD. You’ll hear about our regrets and past experiences with hormonal birth control, what we know now, and how we empowered ourselves through cycle awareness, fertility signals and data to plan our pregnancies.

Hear what our favorite trusted resources are for natural family planning so you can empower yourself and ditch the hormones and IUDs for good.
