Este episodio nos lleva al País Vasco, o Euskal Herria. Los vascos viven en una zona situada entre Francia y España, concretamente entre los Pirineos y el Golfo de Vizcaya. Su lengua, una de las etnias más antiguas de Europa, no tiene vínculos con las lenguas de la zona. Una cultura en la que el folclore y los mitos tienen una gran influencia en su sociedad. La mitología Vasca proviene de los 4 elementos: fuego, tierra, aire y agua. La tierra es el elemento central para ellos y la diosa de la tierra es Mari. Todos los dioses Vascos son, de hecho, diosas en la cultura Vasca. Su historia se basa en el conocimiento del mar, las mujeres líderes de su sociedad, la caza de brujas y las fiestas que abrazan su pasado, al tiempo que mantienen la tradición como parte de su mundo actual.Los vascos fueron perseguidos por aquellos que no entienden su forma de vida, por un miedo irracional e injustificable. Perseguidos durante la Inquisición Española, su cultura y tradición como curanderos ha sobrevivido y sigue siendo fuerte hoy en día con celebraciones que abrazan y recuerdan para siempre esa tradición. Desde el Día de San Juan hasta el Joaldunak, pasando por el Día de la Bruja, su mundo mágico y las lecciones de toda esa experiencia perduran con fuerza hoy en día. This episode takes us to Basque Country, or Euskal Herria. The Basque live in an area existing between France and Spain; specifically between the Pyrenees and the Bay of Biscay. One of the oldest ethnic groups in Europe, their language has no ties to the languages of the area. A culture where folklore and myths are a heavy influence in their society. Basque mythology comes from the 4 elements: fire, earth, air, and water. Earth is the core element for them and the goddess of earth is Mari. And she can take any shape. All Basque Gods are, in fact, Goddesses in the Basque culture. Their history is rooted in strong knowledge of the sea, strong women leaders in their society, witch hunts, and festivals that embrace their past, while maintaining tradition today as a part of their modern day world.The Basque were persecuted by those that don't understand their way of life, out of irrational and unjustifiable fear. Persecuted during the Spanish Inquisition, their culture and tradition as healers has survived and still stands strong today with celebrations embracing and forever remembering that tradition.
