This podcast is for you if you if you have ever searched: How to deal with grief? Where can I get grief support? What are the 5 stages of grief and are they real? How does grief affect mental health? How do I cope with grief and loss? What are some common myths about grief and how can I debunk them? How long does it take to recover from grief What are some healthy ways to deal with grief? How can I support someone who is grieving? What is complicated grief and how is it different from normal grief? What are the physical symptoms of grief and how can I manage them? How can I find a grief support group or counselor? Why does grief hurt so bad?
In this special episode on the 11th Anniversary of my father, Henry Brasil's passing by suicide, my dear friend, Chris Caron, and I invite you to share a poignant journey with us, as we navigate the complex terrains of grief and memories, particularly the heartache and growth we've experienced since our fathers passed away. We hope our candid conversation of getting to know each other's fathers illuminates the diverse faces of grief, extending beyond the common association with funerals, and serving as a comforting echo for those who find themselves walking a parallel path.
Our reminiscence takes us through some of the fondest memories of our fathers and the life lessons they left behind. Chris paints a vivid portrait of his father, Richard Edmond Caron, capturing the essence of his creativity, his hobbies, and the pride he exuded in Chris's journey. From jovial tales of singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to the somber realization of the silent struggles our fathers shouldered, we peel back the layers of their personalities and humanize rather than eulogize these fully feeling, fully flawed humans we called Dad.
As we delve deeper, we reflect on the fatherly advice we carry in our hearts, the embarrassing moments that still trigger a chuckle, and the void their absence has carved in our lives. Addison offers a unique perspective on grief, sharing how he manages his post-traumatic response (after finding his father from suicide loss) and views his father's memory as a source of peace and comfort. Together, we share our insights on coping with loss, making sense of memories, and finding a glimmer of hope in the overwhelming darkness of grief. Walk this journey with us as we honor our fathers, our heroes, in an episode that promises to be as raw as it is comforting.
This is based on Week in the book First Year of Grief Club: A Gift From A Friend Who Gets It. Where we normalize a way to work past survivors' guilt and set up a format to use with a grief peer to talk about our lost loved ones.

Navigating grief is a journey we all must face, but it doesn't always have to be a solemn path. Amie Enriquez joins us and in this deep conversation, we explore how we can turn our utmost vulnerabilities into a source of strength, laughter, and connection. Starting with a heartfelt introspection of our own emotional, mental, and physical states, we reveal our personal interactions with grief and the powerful role comedy has played in our healing.
Comedy is not just about drawing a curtain over our grief; it's about embracing it, living with it, and channeling it into a tangible form of catharsis. What if we could laugh at difficult situations instead of pushing them away? Join us as we examine the ever-changing form of grief and the unique ways we can approach it, even with a child. Through Amie's inspiring story, we further illustrate how comedy and laughter can become a lifeline in the darkest of times, even when dealing with anorexia, addiction, and loss.
In our shared journey, the Groundlings comedy school was a pivotal point in allowing us to transform our traumas into powerful narratives. Here, we learned the power of saying 'yes and', of embracing every situation, and how it can make life more enjoyable. Yet, it's not just about learning to laugh at our experiences. It's also about understanding the importance of gratitude and finding joy amidst our losses. So, let's embark on this heartfelt journey of grief, comedy, and healing together, one step, one laugh at a time.

In this week's episode, we have Catherine Hammond, coach and author of Hope(less). Catherine shares with us that studies show the single best predictor of a life well-lived is hope. Hope gets us through the pain, and helps us deal with the realities of life. It can also get us out of bed in the morning, empower us to have a difficult conversation, or pursue our dream when things get challenging. We don’t always use the word hope. You may call it well-being, happiness, confidence, inner joy, contentment, peace of mind, serenity, faith, trust, or use other similar words. Hope Monsters unite! This powerful episode full of helpful tools for resilience and reconnecting with hope is a must-have in our grief support toolkits.
Many people know Catherine as the award-winning estate planning attorney (Hammond Law Group), author, and transformational coach who serves her community from the heart, building relationships that make clients feel like family. Catherine refinanced her house to create just $12,000 of seed money in order to start it. Everybody told her she was undercapitalized, but she was on a mission to help people. And she hasn’t stopped since. What you also may not know is she had a traumatic childhood, being a caregiver for her mother with dementia starting at age 22, divorce, the loss of people dear to her, foreclosure proceedings on her house while being a single mom, and caring for multiple loved ones with terminal and life-threatening challenges. Now she is known as the Hope Whisperer.

What is that voice in my head telling me I'm not good enough? How can I silence my inner critic? Why do we compare our grief? Is it helpful to compare your grief to someone else's? Is loss relative? Why should I stay open when grief makes me want to shut down? What is competitive grief? How can I choose adventure? How do I take control of my life after a major loss. TW: Suicide, Suicide Loss, Suicidality
This week we are joined by Charlotte Fowles, who is also known as ‘The Executive Adventurer.’ We dive deep with this executive coach and keynote speaker about comparison, loss, and the power of choosing adventures even when we've faced unchosen adventures. This episode is inspired by Week 9 in First Year of Grief Club, where the grief resilience experiment offered is "no comparing for one whole week."
Hiking alone and unsupported for days in the U.S. whilst on chemotherapy; freediving to 90ft on just one breath; spending three months driving an ancient 4-wheel drive through Botswana and Namibia... An expert in silencing the inner critic and increasing real self-confidence, real self-belief, and an inner peace and happiness that changes lives. 'After enduring over a decade of significant personal trauma - which included cancer, multiple miscarriages, and severe depression, to name just a few - she is an expert in creating triumph from tragedy and living a successful life in spite of this. Always one to practice what she preaches, she has spent a lot of her life pushing herself way outside her comfort zone in pursuits such as cold-water swimming through the winter (without a wetsuit!); scuba diving; marathon running (despite a hatred of running); and kayaking. She is passionate about mental wellness and the outdoors and is fascinated by the combinations of these elements that can bring about incredible change.

How do I become more resilient? How often should I check in with myself, my friends, and my team about mental health? What's the difference between wellness and well-being? What is a rebel for resilience? How can I be a grief rebel? What's the best way to check in with yourself and others after a loss? Can you grieve the non-death loss? Am I a rebel?
This week we are discussing the power of checking in and how to rebel for resilience with Author and Keynote Speaker Shelley Paxton.Think Brené Brown meets Biker Babe, with a dash of Liz Gilbert. As former Chief Marketing Officer of Harley-Davidson, Shelley Paxton found herself at the top of the proverbial mountain feeling success-EMPTY instead of success-FULL. That awakening led her on a profound journey that became her mission, business, and Simon & Schuster-
published bestselling book, Soulbbatical: A Corporate Rebel's Guide to Finding Your Best Life. She’s leading a REBELution to rewrite the script of success.
Shelley joins her growing rebel community as burnout fighters and fire re-igniters, breaking free from the shackles of should, helping people across the world liberate their souls and reclaim their joy by rewriting the script for success—personally and professionally. Because success is not the six-figure salary and corner office. It’s not external validation. Success is giving yourself permission to be fully, powerfully, courageously YOU in every facet of your life. It’s saying yes to what serves you and no to what doesn’t. It’s blazing your own trail of authenticity, courage, and purpose.
This episode launches off the idea of Checking In, the experiment from Week 8 of First Year of Grief Club.

In Episode 10, we were lucky enough to have Pete Craig lead us through a heart brain coherence exercise that we can use in grief club to slow down, align, and connect with joy, gratitude and awe. Many members of Grief Club have been asking if there is a way to just have the free guided meditation as a bonus episode for those moments we need it most.
HeartMath or Heart/Brain Coherence Practices as a form of meditation have many benefits, and it can be hard to do alone when dealing with grief and loss. Here's a gift from a couple of friends "who get it."

Is it possible to feel gratitude while grieving? Why would I be grateful for a loss? What are some strategies for living a full life while grieving? Where can I find group support? Do I need a grief coach? What is the best Instagram accounts for grief?
In today's episode, we are joined by a truly conscious creator, lived experience expert, and coach in the grief world. Using the idea of gratitude as a launching point, Addison Brasil and Kayleigh O'Connor (Creator of @goodgrief_uk) go deep on navigating loss in your twenties, finding support, and what employing resilience tools and strategies looks like in grief and everyday life.
Kayleigh is the founder of Good Grief, and it's her aim to facilitate safe spaces for people who are grieving. After losing her dad at 15, and after years of numbing my grief with shopping, spending and booze, she realised through another loss, that she wanted to get to know her grief and listen to what she truly needed instead of running away from it. So Good Grief was born!

How does my ego show up in grief? Is there a way to change our thoughts? Is rumination normal during grief? How do I stop thinking so much about my grief? How do I stop judging myself so much? Why am I so focused on the negative?
In this episode, we talk to a true friend who gets it, Ashley Reed. Sometimes in early grief, we hear and see a lot of what we don't need, but what we do all need, regardless of success achieved, is someone that supports us in our internal and external growth, helps us see the things we can’t, challenges our reality, pushes and encourages us, and helps us see and access the unlimited potential we possess. And that’s exactly what Ashley does for a living as an executive coach, mentor, and keynote speaker. We talk about the ego, grief, and everything in between.
This episode launches off the idea of noticing, which is the experiment from Week 5 of First Year of Grief Club. The offering to experiment with noticing what you focus on (sometimes obsessively so) and getting active in asking: Do I want this thought to expand? Also, if this thought became actionable for my well-being, how would it sound?

Have I been grieving for too long? How come others aren't as upset as me? How long does grief last? How many stages of grief are there? Why is my sibling so much more emotional than me? How much should you cry? Is measuring helpful to my grief? (Spoiler alert: No!)
In today's episode, Addison has a heartfelt conversation inspired by the grief experiment of not measuring from First Year of Grief Club. Joined by LGBTQ Author, Executive Coach, and friend Deano Sutter. This is a digestible chat about mindset, measuring, and grief. Deano opens up about his journey as a gay man, grief, and what inspired him to help others build meaningful and resilient lives regardless of the challenges that come up.

Does grief affect sleep? Will I ever sleep again? What is normal sleep? How can I sleep naturally? Why is it so hard to sleep since they died? How do I know if I am sleeping too much? What is a sleep chronotype?
In this episode, we get a very special visit from Dr. Michael Breus a.k.a. The Sleep Doctor. For many of us, finding time to rest and getting quality sleep becomes an overwhelming concern during a life transition or while grieving the loss of a loved one. Today we talk all things sleep with the Doctor who knows it best.
"Quality sleep is critical to your physical and mental health. Your body and mind essentially recharge while you sleep, allowing you to wake up feeling refreshed and alert in the morning. This is why not getting enough sleep can lead to sluggishness, trouble concentrating, low mood, and other negative outcomes. Current guidelines recommend seven to eight hours of nightly sleep for adults, but surveys suggest more than one-third of adults in the U.S. don’t reach this benchmark on a regular basis." - The Sleep Doctor
Dr. Michael J. Breus is a clinical psychologist with more than two decades of experience in his field. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine and a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Breus is one of the only psychologists to pass the Sleep Medicine Specialty board without attending medical school. In 2021, Reader’s Digest named him the best sleep specialist in the state of California.
Dr. Breus is also a best-selling author. His publications include four book

You may be asking what is happening to my brain right now? What is the difference between grief and grieving? Why do I feel like my spouse or loved one is going to come home any minute? Will grief ever get any easier?
In this episode, we dive deep on the neurobiology of grief - aka the science behind all that seems unexplainable and unbearable as we navigate grief.
“Loss of a loved one is something everyone experiences, and for as long as humans have existed, we have struggled when a loved one dies. Poets and playwrights have written about the dark cloak of grief, the deep yearning, and devastating heartache of loss. But until now, we have had little scientific perspective on this universal experience. In THE GRIEVING BRAIN: The Surprising Science of How We Learn from Love and Loss (HarperOne; February 1, 2022; Hardcover) renowned grief expert, neuroscientist, and psychologist Mary-Frances O’Connor, Ph.D., shares groundbreaking discoveries about what happens
in our brain when we grieve, providing a new paradigm for understanding love, loss, and learning.”

A Welcome To Grief Club: The Podcast With Addison Brasil
What can I expect from Grief Club: The Podcast? Who is Addison Brasil? What can I expect from a friend who gets it? How will listening to this help me build grief resilience tools? Is this for real-life people experiencing real-life grief?
In this intro episode, host and author Addison Brasil lays out what we can expect from Grief Club: The Podcast, some of the “rules” of grief club, and a little of his own story.
This will be the only solo episode for now; tune in weekly to hear from friends and experts as Addison takes the ideas in his weekly grief experiments and uses them as a launching point for deeper conversations with other grief friends who get it.
Visit www.mygriefclub.com
First Year of Grief Club: A Gift From A Friend Who Gets it is available on amazon worldwide.
Addison Brasil (keynote speaker, advocate, and author) had no intention of becoming a disruptor in the mental health and grief space. While pursuing his dream of creating stories that connect people, events in his life forced Addison to focus his full attention on surviving trauma, compounded grief, and the various outcomes of finding himself as an LGTBQ-identifying male.
Addison shows up in the world as an active, committed mental health advocate after landing just to the left of death three times in his 20s: losing his brother to an inoperable brain tumor,, finding his father after suicide, and surviving a fatal accident that killed a dear friend and left him relearning to walk. He attributes his ability to not only survive but thrive with PTSD and compounded grief to the presence and proliferation of community and connections in his life.
