On February 17, the Web3 music streaming service emanate, in collaboration with Forming, Juicebox, and Lexicon Devils, hosted a virtual music festival in the Voxels Metaverse. The event showcased a diverse range of performers from hip-hop to house, disco to electronic, and offered attendees the opportunity to obtain special edition NFT wearables. The event was a floor-to-ceiling demonstration of the technical advancements and artistic talent that Metaverse events provide partygoers with. Forming is an experimental Hyperverse concert series produced by Lexicon Devils, and Juicebox is the programmable, funded protocol for builders and creators. Voxels is a virtual world built on the Ethereum blockchain, which allows for true ownership of virtual assets, and offers a unique and immersive experience for users, perfect for live music events like this one.
Each performing artist received a portion of the funds collected through the Juicebox Protocol, which by the time the party was over, was around 2.5 ETH. Some of the performers were making their professional live performance debuts, let alone performing in a metaverse, for the first time.
This is a summary of what I have learned over the past few years from my own experience in the metaverse:
- In the metaverse, there are new opportunities for artists to make money.
- People can exchange experiences from anywhere in the world thanks to the metaverse.
- The idea of festivals and experiences in the metaverse is fresh and developing.
- The internet in 3D is essentially what the metaverse is.
- The metaverse's virtual events are supposed to supplement actual occurrences rather than to replace them.
- It's crucial to develop metaverse experiences that appeal to both the Web3 and Web2 populations.
- People in challenging circumstances have access to rewarding experiences through the metaverse that they might not otherwise have.

DJ Lethal Skillz returns with ‘Above The Clouds’
Hip-Hop producer and turntable DJ, Lethal Skillz is today announcing his latest project, ‘Above The Clouds’, his brand new, ten track album designed to uplift and ignite the good vibes. Stepping out of his comfort zone, Skillz moves effortlessly into new sonic territory, creating chilled out, down tempo beats to soothe the soul and unwind the mind.
For Skillz, the project was designed as a musical release to get through the hardships so many of us faced throughout the pandemic; but what started out as a side project quickly grew into a superbly crafted body of work.
“It’s made to uplift you. To help you chill, relax and feel good. The creation of this project helped me get through my shit. The fact that this album touched a lot of people is crazy. For me it was a personal therapy session, so it’s amazing that so many people resonate with it.”
The album, which is being released as a digital collectible through MODA DAO, offers collectors the chance to claim a physical vinyl copy of the album - marking a return to the days that Skillz remembers so fondly.
“When I was coming up it was all about vinyl, then cassettes, then CDs. That was all lost through streaming, and this digital collectible gives my audience a chance to feel that special connection - to have something real that they can own.”
Collectors are entitled to a whole heap of goodies, with physical vinyl, NFT wearables and limited edition prints all up for grabs. The album also acts as your ticket to exclusive metaverse events so you can join Skillz for live events. Yesterday on the 6th November for our monthly local scratch DJ community meetup and jam we has a special guest and heavyweight Cut2Cut World Champion, DJ Delightful. Here's a video of the champ showcasing and showing is Turntablist abilities and showcasing how a DJ can use two turntables as music instrument and deliver a crazy performance!
DELightfull’s path as a dj started around 2013 with the first pair of Stanton turntables, although it really all started with his brother’s passed-by-hand cassette tapes more than 10 years prior to that. Growing up a hip-hop head in his hometown of Sofia, he started being interested in the art of turntablism through the scratching in classic 80’s, 90’s and early 00’s rap music. Between 2013 and 2018 he lived and also played gigs in Scotland, Estonia and China, patiently honing his skills and understanding.
The year after, he returned to Sofia where he ran two regular deejay nights and opened up for Lords of the Underground, Bahamadia, Skratch Bastid and various big Bulgarian hip-hop acts. Over the last two years he collaborated with artists from various places, won 6 small online scratch competions plus the 2020 Cut2Cut world title and the 2021 DMC Foundation world title – so clearly the journey has just begun.
It’s crazy to think about how the art form of scratching started, and how it’s since grown into arguably one of the most important skills a DJ can have!
Scratching all started when a young Grand Wizard Theodore accidentally invented it! he was playing records in his room when his mom walked into the room to speak to him. Not wanting to lose track of the record he was playing and listening to; he stood there moving the record back and forth whilst he was speaking to her.
Grand Wizard Theodore thought it sounded cool, so he experimented some more, and from there, scratching was born! He can also be credited for inventing the needle drop as well. A technique where you start spinning a record, before dropping the needle at the exact spot you want the music to play, all without cueing up the record in advance.

Tools Of The Trade
What makes Portablism different from turntablism is the type of gear used. You can’t lug a heavy Technics SL-1200 in your backpack, and a full-sized mixer is unnecessary for most.
Here’s the gear that we’ve seen used (this list might not be complete, so feel free to share your additions in the article comments):
Portable Turntables: They weigh much less than any typical DJ turntable, are battery-powered, and are usually belt-driven. The most common ones used by portablists are the Vestax Handy Trax (~$350, discontinued but are still sold online) and the Numark PT01USB ($99).
Scratch Records
These are already a tool of the trade in the turntablism world, but often portablists will want 7″ records to cut with instead of full-sized 12″ records. In recent years, a lot more of these have popped up. Check out some from Ritchie Ruftone, and of course DJ Qbert’s Thud Rumble.
Pocket Faders
These are the devices that have made portablism possible. Before pocket faders, there wasn’t a truly portable solution for cutting audio in and out on the fly. The first one we saw on the market was the Frisk Fader, which can simply cut audio in and out from a single source with two 1/8″ jacks – one for the input and one for the output.
There are a few other competitors out now, including the Raiden Fader, Jesse Dean’s JDDX2R, and even the wireless Mixfader (a Bluetooth option for use with an iPhone app).

With the covid lockdown lifted and life is somehow getting back to normal here in Kuala Lumpur hosting bi-weekly scratch DJ's community meetups has been going well and each time we do it more and new DJs from the scene show up which is amazing to see.
Since "The Adventures of Grand Master Flash" the early 1980s brought turntable to the attention of world renown musicians such as Herbie Hancock, Malcolm McLaren and more. Most Hip Hop songs in the 80s wouldn't sound complete if there wasn't scratching on it.
A big shout out to the originators and creators of this art DJs Kool Herc, Grand Master Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, and Grand Wizard Theodore who have helped open the door for the DJ and all the other Pioneers stepped forward and took the turntable to new levels in the musical realm.

Lately been forcing myself back to practice and work on weak areas that I need to develop due to the lack of time to put on practice consistently, and def with consistency it pays back I'm finally able to add the new scratch tricks I learned with my previous scratch combos and def enjoying building new ones to add to my arsenal of cuts.
I am using the Omni Portable Turntable by Headache Sounds in here, it is a portable turntable for both music lovers and scratch DJs. It has an adjustable tone arm and counterweight, a replaceable cartridge, a high-pass scratch mode, contactless faders, Bluetooth input, and a 5W speaker. It can be powered by power banks via its DC port.

Here's a snipet of last night's #EMTAPX collaborative metaverse party from Emanate and Appicsthat took place in Voxels metaverse.
Nina Creese used her slot to showcase and show us how she does Virtual reality DJ'ing in her sets using TribeXr which I witnessed and it's absolutely amazing, note that DJ Nina Creese is a DJ Mentor for Virtual Reality Dj Simulation TribeXR
Event hosted a lineup of 8 artists from the emanate and appics communities combined which was a great initiative to see on how Web3 communities and connecting with each others, using all the available Web3 tools from these platforms to do what they love to do create music, build their communities, spread their music and party up!

Tools Of The Trade
What makes Portablism different from turntablism is the type of gear used. You can’t lug a heavy Technics SL-1200 in your backpack, and a full-sized mixer is unnecessary for most.
Here’s the gear that we’ve seen used (this list might not be complete, so feel free to share your additions in the article comments):
Portable Turntables: They weigh much less than any typical DJ turntable, are battery-powered, and are usually belt-driven. The most common ones used by portablists are the Vestax Handy Trax (~$350, discontinued but are still sold online) and the Numark PT01USB ($99).
Scratch Records
These are already a tool of the trade in the turntablism world, but often portablists will want 7″ records to cut with instead of full-sized 12″ records. In recent years, a lot more of these have popped up. Check out some from Ritchie Ruftone, and of course DJ Qbert’s Thud Rumble.

After 2 years, I finally stepped out and performed Live for Daorecords 'Sound Splash' hosted at Drum Asia here in Kuala Lumpur, the event was a Multiverse Live performance streamed across Cryptovoxels and Reality Chain promoting our new music NFT release 'Spacesuit Apocalypse' with my partner Vandigital and a special guest appearance from the famz @masiaone @naddimusic @sxph68 & @netunoblu
I won't lie it was exciting to be back on stage but I was extremely feeling nervous with a mix of anxiety, the best part of meeting up with close friends and fam after years of not seeing each other and celebrating life and music, all the performers killed it and the overall vibe was intimate and filled with high energy at the same time.
This was a great warmup to start getting my skillz back on the road and performing live, big shout out to all who attended in the real verse and the metaverses.
