It might sound like a no-brainer for you if someone calls you an individual because that is what you are.

But what does it actually signify to be an individual? You being one whole entity? Sounds about right. But do you actually feel like one? Always and completely aligned with your integrity? Probably not.

In this episode, we are going to look at the different parts of you that co-exist and that are sometimes in full harmony and sometimes cause you struggle and confusion.

The book I recommended is called “The Body Keeps the Score” and the author’s name is Bessel van der Kolk.

Thank you for listening.

The start of a new year can be inspiring and motivating but more often than not also frightening because our culture of creating New Year’s resolutions can create the pressure to come up with some “worthwhile” goals.

This episode was made to inspire you to think about your future in a more soul-aligned way by considering your intentions rather than making up goals that you “better should” achieve.

Take that pressure off your shoulders and take in some food for thought on how you can create a future that suits you well, truly.

Thank you for listening.

One of the most fabulous people I was honored to meet is Davor. He lives in Toronto and has a moving story, being a refugee from former Yugoslavia.

Knowing him as a positive, outgoing person who loves making other people laugh, it is difficult to imagine the hardships he and his family went through when war broke out in the early 1990s in Yugoslavia. Being separated from their dad, they experienced severe trauma, had to flee to different parts of the country and even spent a few months in Germany before eventually being able to get accepted as refugees in Windsor, Ontario.

. . . . . . .

For this special time of the year, I would like to publish my first episode with a guest. It is a podcast episode in which I am talking to this dear friend who we can take as an inspiration for transitioning through hard times and still ending up seeing the good in people.

And the best part is that this episode is only the kick-off to many more episodes together.

Please listen and share and keep spreading the good.

Thank you.

For the first time, I will be reading a poem of mine publicly. It is about a wholesome view on the season of fall (or autumn) and about the metaphorical meaning for us in life.

Cherishing ambivalence and still being able to count your blessings despite of experiencing challenging situations are some of the things that I invite you to do for yourself in this episode.

Get cozy and warm, snuggle in and follow the tune...

Thank you for listening and for supporting the podcast!

You will be surprised – as was I – to find out the etymology of the word “evolution”.

Tune in to learn how liberating it can be to know all your options and to dare unfold in all possible directions.
Evolution doesn't necessarily mean linear development! It truly doesn't.

To get closer to your truest evolution you can ask yourself:

“For my next step – does it really make most sense for me to move forward, or is not maybe better to move to the side or even backwards?”

I will also tell you three real life examples of people who decided to move in any of those directions.

ALL of those options do make sense, it only depends on the person and the respective life situations.

Thank you for listening and for supporting the podcast!

What can we all learn from immigrants’ strategies for striving for a better life?
I guess that some of you might have an instant stream of thoughts now...

But before we can dive into that question, it is kind of fundamental to think about what better actually means.
Hence, in this episode I will introduce a new podcast feature – the etymological explanation of words (because I LOVE LOVE LOVE etymology!).

For this episode, I will briefly get into the original meanings of the words “better” and “to improve”.

And as I often like to do it, I am also going to provide you with a few suggestions on how to go about the aforementioned question on how we all can learn from immigrants’ strategies for striving for a better life:

  1. Become aware of your desire to change

  2. Stay calm and patient, observe your situation mindfully without being judgmental

  3. Decide if you can change something at all and if so, what it is you can change

  4. Remember the meaning of improvement and what that in turn means to you specifically

  5. Name your specific next steps and the resources you can activate to implement them

  6. Check in with yourself regularly to keep up the awareness on how far you’ve come already

Thank you for listening and for supporting the podcast!

Not many words will be shared today, because I myself am applying exactly what I recommend you do, when you find yourself challenged and overwhelmed with work, expectations and activities – for a certain time, JUST DO 10% OF WHAT YOU NORMALLY DO.

Feel inspired and encouraged to take it easy for a little while.

Overcoming the feeling of being an outsider and the desire to belong, is something that we as immigrants share - regardless of our specific background and individual story.

There is so much wisdom in learning from these type of life experiences.

In this episode, I share a bit more from my personal story with you and three of my favourite tips on how to intentionally cultivate transitions:

  1. Curiosity

  2. Self-compassion

  3. Will power

No matter if you have an immigrant background or not – what I discuss in this episode applies to any type of transformation process.

Many people shy away from admitting to themselves or to society that they are struggling with their mental health.

This is specifically severe for those of you coming from a culture that values family, community or society over the single individual - those of you who originally stem from a cultural background located in Asia, Eastern Europe or South America for example. You have probably been brought up to prioritise the needs of the group over your own. Which makes you feel guilty and severely ashamed to admit to anyone that you have mental health problems, not to mention reaching out to a therapist for healing and support.

And although being rooted in a we culture (or to use a technical term - “collectivistic culture”) can spare you from slipping into states of anxiety or depression too easily (see link to study below), it can unfortunately also keep you from taking steps towards your healing.

IT IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK and I want to take that opportunity to tell you:

  • You are not alone - I’ve been there too and so are many, many, many of us with the above mentioned background; you can find like-minded people all over the world; please contact me if you are seeking encouragement and connection
  • Be brave to take care of your mental health
  • I will introduce you to a little exercise that can dampen your feelings of guilt and shame

Stay curious, stay inspired and share this podcast with anyone you think might benefit from it!

Some of the upcoming episodes will be in German and probably Serbian too, so watch out for indicators in the episode titles. ;)

Hello dear curious crowd,

Nice to have you back!

In this podcast the talk is about something that we all do constantly - mistakes.

We all make mistakes at all times and in all aspects of our lives, no matter how professional or trained or prepared we are.

In this episode I am going to:

  • Share my most recent (and very public!) mistake with you (in case you missed out)
  • Talk about our mistake culture in general
  • Invite you to do an exercise that will shed some light on your own mistake culture
  • Give you a little pep talk about starting to do things before you are entirely ready (despite the fear of failing or making mistakes)

Check in with yourself to notice whether you feel like you are being only professional about making/preventing mistakes or if is indeed a bit over the top and you might consider it perfectionist instead.

Without being judgemental - just notice your patterns and become aware of how you cultivate your behaviour around mistakes!

And most importantly - stay curious, stay inspired and share this podcast with anyone you think might benefit from it!

Some of the upcoming episodes will be in German and probably Serbian too, so watch out for indicators in the episode titles. ;)
