Welcome to Ski Cap, Hoodie, and Shorts! This podcast is a project for you and I to learn together as we go along. It will touch on different topics and may act as a way to be thought provoking, be background noise or company for you, or just be something comforting to listen to. Topics include but are certainly not limited to travel, food, technology, education, sports, life, trivia, and topics that are miscellaneous, variety, and potpourri too! Feel free to jump around and listen to the episodes that interest you the most and then may circle back for other episodes that you might want to hear. Like life, this will be a work in progress! In this Bonus Burst, Ted says a quick thank you to his Mom ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday in the US. When Ted was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in the late 1980s, doctors told him he was not allowed to eat sugar at all. His Mom started a Thanksgiving tradition of making him a special cranberry sauce that didn't contain sugar. In this episode, Ted discusses his day representing the NASA Social Media team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, USA. He was visiting on the day that the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission was set to crash a spacecraft into an asteroid moonlet name Dimorphos 6.8 million miles from Earth. If that was the only thing that happened that day, it would have been remarkable, but the tour of the facilities, the information about DART and other missions currently being worked on, and the staff from NASA and JHUAPL were mindblowing! Hopefully the outline of the day does justice to just what a great and successful day it was on all fronts!
In this Bonus Burst, Ted talks about traveling to and how to watch the asteroid deflection that is being conducted on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 7:14PM EDT (UTC-4). The DART Mission (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) is being conducted by NASA and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHUAPL).
