Change is inevitable. Living a human life means that struggles are a likely part of your journey. We have a choice in what we do with the circumstances in our lives as well as how we handle the hard things. Healing is possible especially when you allow God’s love and wisdom to take root in your soul. This episode takes us for a stroll down memory lane as we revisit some of the traumas we discussed in episode 5 entitled “Strumming my pain with His fingers.” We are reminded that seemingly impossible things can give way to valuable lessons and insights we may never have discovered otherwise. Being human is hard; navigating this life without God would be even harder.

We should all be asking ourselves regularly, “Does the Bible really say that?” Just because we hear it often does not make it true. We want to bring to your attention a few of the many common phrases or beliefs we say or hear that many believe are rooted in scripture. Our intention is to shine a light on little half truths that present themselves as gospel. We are ultimately responsible for what we believe, why we believe that, and the relationship we have cultivated with our Holy Papa. Anytime you are presented information as doctrine we implore you to study it out for yourself. Seek out your answers from Him and He will guide you.

“When God tells you to do something, you do it.”
This is a quote from Tim Ballard, played by Jim Caviezel, in the movie “Sound of Freedom”. Tim was being commissioned by God to rescue children from sex traffickers and he made a choice to act.

In part two of this episode series, Kristy and Bonnie share the vision given to them for Solomon Center, a nonprofit organization they founded due to God’s prompting and guidance. Solomon Center is now accepting donations to assist with building a state-of-the-art treatment center that will offer acute, outpatient, and intensive outpatient services. Solomon Center will combine brain-based, evidence-based trauma protocols and interventions with the power of the Holy Spirit. It will offer a variety of healing experiences including brainspotting, EMDR, somatic and movement therapies, art therapy, music therapy, adventure therapy/ropes course, canine therapy, play therapy, occupational therapy, walk and talk therapy in nature, as well as career and vocation assistance. Additionally, there will be an amphitheater at Solomon Center with covered seating as well as an indoor concert and lecture hall. These venues will be used for family-friendly concerts, fundraising events, lectures, continuing education, and community events.

Our earthly fathers can influence and impact how or if we relate to our Heavenly Father. However, our parents are not God. People are flawed; God and his love are perfect. In Luke 11:9-13 Jesus teaches us that if we are asking and seeking a relationship with God, we will definitely find it. He reminds us that even flawed earthly parents know how to give their kids what they need so “how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” He speaks our language and meets us where we are. Seek him and find the safest relationship there is to be found!

Romans 8:15-16
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

The topic of sex and relationships is often a tricky subject to navigate. Whether you are a teen just entering into the dating world, a more mature adult navigating single life, a married adult, or a newly divorced/widowed adult who finds themselves walking through a new season of life this episode has something for everyone. Sex is a topic that deserves direct communication. We recognize that many people are uncomfortable discussing sex and that the topic is often met with immature antics and shame-based language. It is our desire to help facilitate an open dialog about sex as well as explore what the Bible has to say on the subject. It is our earnest prayer that as you listen to this episode the Holy Spirit will begin to speak to your heart and guide you to open communication and honest discussions regarding sex and all that it entails.

1 Cor. 6:18-20
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Over and over we are invited into the presence of God. He tells us He is always available. This episode reminds us that when Jesus died on the cross for us and the veil was torn, He opened a direct line of communication between us and the Creator of the world, God the Father. Through Jesus we are granted grace. We can take our needs straight to the throne. He continually invites us into a deeper relationship with Him. We invite you to sit with God, where you find Him, and ask Him to meet you where you are. If you let Him, you too will experience His tangible presence.

Book of 365 devotions: I Hear His Whisper: Encountering God’s Heart for You by Dr. Brian Simmons and Gretchen Rodriguez.

Luke 23:-44-46

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Heb 10:19-23

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

John 14:6

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father, but through me.”

Ephesians 3:12

In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

Ephesians 2:18

For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

Correction At 36:00 Abraham was mistakenly stated as the one kept out of the Promised Land. This was actually Moses. We are working to correct this mistake. Sorry about any confusion.

There are moments in our lives where it’s nearly impossible to reconcile the goodness of God in the midst of our uncertainties, trauma, and emotional pain. When the cares of the world have engulfed us in despair and the fear and uncertainty encroach upon us we must ask ourselves what we know about the character of God. Our feelings may lead to thoughts that tell us differently, but the truth is, we have a choice, even when our world is crashing down around us.

Do we sit in despair, believing lies, or choose to trust that God is good because He says He is? He is sovereign. His character is innately good. Our hope is in Him and His ways are above ours.

Psalm 34:8-10

Taste and see that the Lord is good;

blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Fear the Lord, you his holy people,

for those who fear him lack nothing.

The lions may grow weak and hungry,

but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

When desperation creeps into our life we aren't prepared for the enormous impact it has on us and the people around us. Just because we are Christians doesn't mean we are immune to trauma and pain. Hopefully, we know who to take our hurts to. We should all have a desperation to know God.
Are you desperate to hear from God? Do you pursue him, chase him like you chase the things of this world? If you are struggling, know that you are loved, seen, and heard. Even though you may feel alone, trust that He is always with you.

Mark 5:21-34 Jesus heals a sick woman

God has called ordinary people to unbelievable things since the beginning of time. Since he is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), we know that he is still doing the same right now. Just like the days of old, God equips everyone he calls with his strength for these tasks. Sometimes saying yes to God’s will looks crazy to the world around us. We find our strength not in ourselves, but in God who directs our path. For when we trade our desires and wants for his will and surrender our lives to him, all things become possible. Being called to crazy is the hardest and easiest thing we get to do.

Luke 9:23-24 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it…

We would be lying if we were to pretend that walking in this world is easy. Sometimes there are no fairytale endings or even happy ones for that matter. Anyone who has walked this earth for long will tell you that life isn’t fair and in fact it just plain SUCKS sometimes. Unfortunately, everyone will be touched by trauma at some point in their lives. We can honestly say that we don’t know how anyone can make it through this journey without the hope of Jesus. If we try to walk in our own ways we will be swallowed up by the sin nature of the flesh. We are never more at risk for idol worship or addiction when we submit ourselves to our own coping skills before we submit ourselves and bring our problems and our pain straight to God.

James 1:2-4 "Consider it pure joy when you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

The capacity of the human mind to deal with trauma is extraordinary and brilliant. God has built into us the ability to escape (even if temporary) when pain or trauma has become too much for us to bear. You may be surprised to know that not all dissociation is because of a severe trauma. Have you ever been driving and listening to the radio to realize you don’t even remember how you got to your destination? Well, you likely dissociated in the form of checking out. Don’t worry; you aren’t crazy or alone, as it is very common. The degrees of dissociation and the impact it has on one's life can vary greatly.

Bonnie’s desire to empathize with Kristy and gain insight into the struggle she was having prompted a prayer that led to insights they never could have fathomed. Although the ways God used to teach her and ultimately Kristy were unorthodox (crazy), he was present and in control of the experience.

Song referenced:

“New Wine” by Hillsong Worship

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Corinthians 12:9

Search me, O God, and know my heart;

test me and know my thoughts,

See if there is any offensive way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 139:23-24

Ananias & Sapphira were filled with the spirit of Satan and attempted to deceive fellow believers and God, but the Holy Spirit (through Peter) exposed their true hearts and motives and massive consequences followed. This taught the early church that God will not tolerate hypocrisy or attempts to deceive the Holy Spirit. Many of God’s people today profess that they know him, but their hearts and true intentions are compromised.

This serves as a timely message for the modern church:

--Don’t attempt to deceive the Holy Spirit; he will not be fooled.

--Don’t give Satan a foothold by loving and serving yourself first. Put God first and others second.

--Don’t do the right thing for the wrong reasons; this is a counterfeit Christian life.

Ananias & Sapphira did not love the truth enough to allow it to change them. Will you?

In this episode the heart of God for his people, the church and bride of Christ, shines bright. He beckons us into deeper communion with him while encouraging us to take an honest assessment of our hearts and motives. He calls us to repentance and convicts us from a place of love, not wanting any of us to perish, but live forever with him.

Scripture discussed:

1 Samuel 8

Amos 5:21-24

“Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” 1 John 2:3-6 NKJV

As humans we all have basic needs- food, water, shelter, safety, comfort. Satan is cunning and seeks to persuade us that we don’t need God to meet those needs. But if you don’t understand the character and craftiness of Satan, you may not see the trap set for you. He is shrewd. However, God has supplied us with every tool necessary to stand firm when he attacks or when we allow our own sinful nature to take over. He gives us his authority as believers. We need to remember it ain’t our power; it’s His. And the minute we forget that, we might as well be fighting the enemy in a jello suit with a plastic knife. (© God Be Crazy podcast 2022)

God is not afraid to use suffering to wake us up, correct us, and call us into a closer relationship with Him. We learn in Ezekiel 24 that God suddenly kills Ezekiel’s wife and that he does so with great purpose. Could God possibly do the same in your life?

Bonnie and Kristy (Kikki) have a candid conversation about sexual abuse trauma and how God reveals his love in our suffering. They share what their personal “wrestle” with God looks like as they learn to submit to His ways in spite of the flesh.

James 1:2-4
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
