Working too many hours, never having enough time for it all.

Wrong.

And then helping you solve the top 3 issues that lead to your overworking.

One of the top complaints I hear from the accountants I coach (and my accounting friends) is that there is never enough time.
You want to get all the things done, and feel like a successful, skilled professional who always achieves and follows through for your clients and team, but you also would love to have a life, see your family, sleep, and maybe even workout sometimes.
There are so many ways to solve for creating enough time and managing your time.
But, I think there are actually a lot of things that you don't even realize are productivity killers and time wasters.
Many of them are just normal things we do each day and pretty standard patterns of getting through stressful or busy times.
Or even normal times.
I think you will be surprised by some of these top 7 time sucks I share today. And of course I include suggestions for how you can counteract them.
Enjoy!

Everyone judges their clients at some point, in some way. It’s just human nature.
What you do with that judgment, how it guides your work, and how you feel at work and after work is what matters.
Today I’m going into detail on why judgments are normal, how you can use them to make your client relationships and solutions even better, and how you can stop feeling guilty or embarrassed for having the judgments in the first place.
When you apply the concepts I cover in this episode, you will enjoy your client interactions more, have more time and energy, and improve the overall experience for clients, too.

Do you have a reliable process for making decisions?
It sounds so logical and simple, but most of us are flying blind and hoping for the best when we make decisions.
We think our process is great, especially if it is slow and deliberate.
In this episode, I'm challenging what you think you know about good decision making, and proposing a simpler, more effective approach to decisions.
One that will help you make decisions more quickly and simply so you can spend more time actually doing things and making progress instead of pondering ideas and hoping you get it right.

Today I’ve invited my client, Laura Roeder, onto the podcast to talk about business, entrepreneurship, mindset coaching, and using tools that make your business easier.
Laura is a successful serial entrepreneur, having started, grown, and successfully exited multiple companies that are still operating successfully today. And, she grew each business by doing things her way and challenging conventional business advice and norms for how things should be done.
One of the norms she has challenged is the way she built and works with her team. Among many things, it enabled her to essentially take six months off from her business to travel with her family, while still growing the business.
Our chat is packed with insight into how Laura approaches her businesses, and tips that you can apply in your own business, regardless of industry.
I think you're really going to enjoy this look into a successful serial entrepreneur's brain and find several things you can apply to your own business today.
Laura Roeder is an experienced entrepreneur who began running her own business at 22. She was named one of the top 100 entrepreneurs under 30 in 2011, 2013, and 2014. Laura is a co-founder of the LKR Social Media course, MeetEdgar, and Marie Forleo's B-School. In 2020, she also co-founded Paperbell, a tool designed to help coaches and consultants streamline various processes within their practice. Laura loves traveling and reading memoirs. Recently I’ve been covering several aspects of setting goals, planning for the next year, and setting yourself up for the future you want.
I've shared several strategies and actions you can take to set yourself and your business up to achieve the success you want next year.
However, even the most well thought out strategies and plans can fail if you don’t also look into your mindset as you create and execute your plan.
If you've ever been inspired by a great business strategy book or consultant but had your plan then fall flat, you know what I'm talking about.
The thing is, you aren't inherently a failure or flop. Which means you can totally try again with completely different results.
Most likely you didn't have the mindset you needed to completely follow through on your desired strategy.
Today I'm diving into how to develop the mindset you need to execute any plan, including examples of what works and what doesn't.
Whatever you're hoping to do differently next year, you'll want to get your brain on board now.

Instead of going through the motions of work every day only to end up in the same place again next year, with the same frustration and stress as usual.
I'm sharing the type of detailed metrics that can completely change how you set and achieve goals as well as specifically why this works compared with how you have likely approached goals in the past.
This has completely changed my relationship with goals (I used to avoid them) and I have seen my clients massively increase and improve what they accomplish in their businesses and lives with this tweak.

While you probably would never consciously expect your employees to read your mind, almost every manager and business owner is actually expecting exactly that at some point every day.
It confuses the heck out of your team and it keeps you feeling frustrated and wondering why you can get them to do what you want, how you want it, and when you want it.
Luckily, there's a very simple solution to this.
It's all about deciding what you actually expect from each employee, telling them, and then also following through to hold them accountable. Over and over.
Like most things, easier said than done.
In this episode I walk you through key steps and tips to actually do this so you can stop feeling frustrated with your team and questioning your own abilities.
Your team will not only do better work, but they'll enjoy their work more.
When they know what to do and how to do it well, that means your clients get better service and you will have more time to focus on your own work.
Or simply to go home and unplug when your day is done.

You know how every year you make these great plans to do better next year? Not just to exercise more or drink more water.
I'm talking about plans to improve and grow your firm.
To change your pricing. To hire new or better employees. To niche down to a client base you actually want to work with and have really great expertise at serving.
And even better, to work fewer hours and take home a bigger profit.
But then the year goes by and you're busy and stressed, and you find yourself making similar plans, goals and dreams again.
I want that to change for you. These last two months of the year are the perfect time to start that change, by doing a new kind of reflection and evaluation of the past year.
And setting yourself up for easy actions in the new year.
Recently a client of mine summed it up perfectly, “If I’m where I am now at this time next year, you should fire me.”
The only way to make a change is to take new actions. And the best way to take new actions (other than actually doing them) is to get your brain onboard with what you want.
In this episode, I'm walking you through that.
And, now is the perfect time to book a call with me to apply this work to yourself and your firm after you listen.

That question is this: How do I reconcile working for incompetent people? Or how should I handle working for a less than stellar boss?

In the world of finance and accounting, there’s a so much pressure for perfection in your work. There is not a lot of room for error.
You expect yourself to know the answer to anything and everything a client might pose to you. And you expect yourself to never be wrong, misunderstand, or make the wrong decision on behalf of your client.
But inevitably, mistakes and errors happen. It doesn't matter how hard you try to avoid them or how perfect you are. It will happen.
So what do you do when it happens? How do you navigate it?
Today I'm covering:
1. Why and how mistakes happen in the finance and accounting industries.
2. Why mistakes seem like such a problem, but aren’t actually as terrible as you make them out to be.
3. And what you can do differently the next time you make a mistake.
If mistakes are inevitable, knowing these three things will make it much easier to navigate them, and get through your day to day work without feeling as stressed and pressured to be perfect.

One of the most effective decision making tools or approaches is to make decisions ahead of time.
Meaning you make decisions with your logical brain before your emotional, less advanced and less logical brain takes over in the moment when stress or excitement rule.
This method of making decisions leads to creating amazing results in your work and life.
Making decisions ahead of time means deciding how you want to respond, what you want to do, or how you want to feel in advance of an actual event.

Indecision runs rampant for so many people in so many areas of life these days. We have more decisions to make than ever, and a lot of time it's easier and more comfortable to simply put off decisions in the moment.
However, the impact of your indecision goes way beyond just your own brain and day.
Indecision creates an ongoing open loop of unmade decisions that exhausts you and holds back the people you work with from making the desired progress in your work.
In practice, indecision can look like avoiding a task, procrastinating on something that needs an answer or action, or constantly seeking and waiting for input or feedback from someone else instead of just deciding and moving forward.
Today I'm talking about how to recognize indecision in yourself and your team, why you struggle with indecision, and what you can do to overcome it and start making more decisions, with greater ease, clarity, and confidence.

In this episode I'm sharing the reasons you’re uncomfortable and what you can do to be more comfortable both in accepting how wonderful and accomplished you are and talking about it with greater ease and frequency.
Think you're fine just being modest and discounting yourself still? Here's why you should care.
People who acknowledge their role in creating their results have more confidence, receive more recognition, get paid more, are exposed to greater opportunities, and have more fun in life and work.
And, the more you acknowledge and claim your own greatness, the more you open the door for others to do the same.

You know the saying, “what got you here, won’t get you there?”
I find it really captures that transition from the work that you have excelled at doing thus far (and that got you promoted and accelerated your career) into work that feels totally new and uncomfortable as you take on increasingly challenging roles in management or business ownership.
Today we're talking about three skills that will most serve you as you advance to higher levels, how they differ from your current skills, and how to develop them.
Because the skills you need at the higher levels aren’t often taught or nurtured in a way that helps you grow quickly and confidently.

Most of us go through life believing that we are just dealt a hand of cards and it's simply the luck of the draw if we're happy with it or not.
However, life is actually a collection of every choice you make. Conscious and unconscious choices.
It’s an uncomfortable truth, but also one that can put you on the path to creating a life you absolutely love.
That’s what we’re talking about today - the choices you make, becoming aware of them, and how to change them so you can intentionally create the life you desire.

The cyclical or repetitive nature of accounting is one of the more frustrating aspects of the profession for a lot of us.
Why do we do the same thing over and over every month, quarter and year?
The same clients and people bring the same last minute drama, we follow the same procedures that don't seem to work that well, or that waste time and resource, and we even make the same mistakes.
If you want to change that, the best place to start is with a better evaluation process. Now. Not next quarter.
Listen to this episode now to learn how to make the most of your evaluation process and actually make impactful changes for yourself, your team, your clients, and your company.

“I don’t have time for the strategic work/thinking/ planning or big picture stuff because I’m so busy with all the day to day stuff. There’s just too much to do.”
How many times have you said that or heard that from someone at work?
It sounds logical in the moment when you're overwhelmed with the daily grind.
But it keeps you stuck in that same place with no option for moving forward with greater productivity or ease.
Today I'm talking about how to always make time for the strategic work, because that is the work that will propel your career and your business forward and help you reduce or eliminate so many of the problems that you're juggling on a daily basis.

Difficult clients are an inevitable part of any business. There are several ways to manage interactions in the moment with your difficult clients, but today I want to go a little deeper and talk about why they’re difficult in the first place.
My goal is to help you have fewer of those difficult client moments and more clients that you enjoy working with. You won't need that band-aid of managing difficult conversations or destressing with a glass of wine at the end of the day.
What I’m talking about today will actually change how you see all of your clients, improve your client service in general, and help you save time and energy because you won’t be dreading, avoiding, and stewing over those difficult clients nearly as much.

Today we’re talking about masculine and feminine energy and how being aware of it can help you run a better business and enjoy your work more without feeling like you’re fighting your way through each day.
This topic sounds more woo than the things I usually talk about, but it is something I have found very useful in understanding my own way of operating in my business.
It has been incredibly useful in understanding my motivations, my energy, and how I show up and how I interact with other people. And it helped me understand other people’s motivations better.
So to talk about this subject and share more about it with you, I've invited my friend and fellow coach, Melanie Shmois to talk more in depth about masculine and feminine energy and how you can apply what we share today to your own business and life.
Melanie is a therapist turned intuitive life and high performance coach with certifications from the Life Coach School and Atmana Intuitive Coaching.

It's easy to think that in order to succeed, you need to know all the answers, exactly what to do, when to do it, and how to do it all, right now.
However, the way you actually grow your business is one decision and one action at a time. Without every answer and without all the certainty and guarantees your brain desires.
Truthfully, that's how you create any result in life.
Unfortunately, what we do in our minds is complicate this and judge ourselves because this approach seems too simple, so clearly it can't actually work. And then we do a lot of overthinking, overplanning, over-perfecting, and essentially under-doing.
Today I'm walking you through how growing your business and changing your life one decision at a time actually looks, what it means for you as a busy business owner growing her business, how it applies to your life, and how to put it to use every single day.
And I'm sharing three questions that will help you stick with this approach, even when you feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of your goals and to-do list.

For a lot of women, this title and the concept of thinking like one, feels very uncomfortable.

Listen in today to learn three guiding principles to help you practice your CEO mindset every day.

Last week I talked about your relationship with yourself and how it’s the cornerstone to everything in your business and life.
Today, I’ve invited relationship coach, Naomi Stonier, to talk with us about how your personal relationships show up in and impact your business.
I know a lot of entrepreneurs struggle with personal relationships, balancing time to engage in relationships, feeling good around other people, feeling lonely, and so many things.

Naomi and I are talking about precisely how the relationships in your life impact your business and how you can improve your personal relationships. Specifically, you can find information about so many of your business problems by noticing patterns in your personal relationships throughout your life.
So have a listen, and take the time to address your relationships because this will actually make your business perform better!

The money you create in your business has very little to do with how smart you are or how hard you work.
That’s because the money you make actually has a lot more to do with what you think about all day while you’re making decisions and taking action (or avoiding things), than the actual decisions and actions.
