hert: trauma & triumph: Recent Episodes

Katie Pynn

hert is a podcast about the trauma and triumphs of women, female athletes and those for whom body and career are deeply and permanently linked. We aim to shine a light on the stories of incredible women that overcome enormous hurdles both in their personal and professional lives. Each week, we will interview someone whose body is a cornerstone of their career. We will discuss their accomplishments, challenges, experiences and perspective on everything from femininity, sexuality, motherhood, rivalries, public expectation, trauma and more. No two women are the same, so no two stories are- and our goal is to honor our guests while inspiring our listeners. As women, we ask so much of our bodies. hert aims to celebrate, commiserate and empathize with the brave women that share their stories- the good, the bad and the ugly- with us. An important note- hert is an inclusive community where both the terms ‘female’ and ‘athlete’ are open to interpretation. Anyone who ever has, currently does or hopes to someday identify as a woman is welcome here. We also believe the gender spectrum is broad and beautiful- trans, non-binary or anyone who has arrived at a gender identity that makes them feel like their most authentic self is also welcome here. On athletes, we believe you don’t need to be an olympian to be an athlete. (Though we will be interviewing a few!) We will talk to physical trainers, stunt women, doctors, police officers, dancers, sex workers, singers, teachers and more. If you or someone you know has a story you’d like to tell, we are always accepting applications. Email us at hertpod@gmail.com with a brief description of who you are, what you do and any detail you think would make you a good fit for our podcast. Triumph on, Katie Pynn

Child athlete, champion sprint kayaker and current professional Ultimate Frisbee player Erin Donahue is a shining example of the long term, positive habits early athletics can help build. She has spent her life evolving into a formidable athlete, managing to bring a positive attitude, determination and joy to everything she does. Erin's humble confidence is a reminder to celebrate your own accomplishments daily, and continue striving for personal growth and happiness!

Yes, you read that right... this week's episode is a total role reversal, as I put MYSELF in the hot seat and attempt to shed a little light on why I started this podcast to begin with. My lovely wife Ashley was kind enough to interview me and help me share with all of you my personal history as a female athlete. Learn the details of what led me to this place in my life, everything I am putting into this project, and what I hope to get out of it!

Hello and welcome to hert, a podcast exploring the trauma and triumphs of female athletes. I’m your host, Katie Pynn, and every week I’ll be bringing you inspiring stories of amazing women overcoming hurdles in their personal and professional lives. Through intimate interviews, we’ll discuss everything from femininity, sexuality, motherhood, rivalry, public expectations, trauma, recovery, and so much more.

At hert, we believe you don’t need to be an olympian to be an athlete (though we WILL be talking with a few). But you’ll also hear from physical trainers, stunt women, doctors, police officers, dancers, sex workers, chefs, singers, teachers, military veterans… you name it. Anyone whose body is a cornerstone of their career, is an athlete in our book, and their stories MATTER. As women, we ask so much of our bodies, and hert aims to celebrate, commiserate and empathize with the incredible people that join us each week. We hope this community continues to grow and expand, and we cannot wait to bring you inspiring content, released weekly every Tuesday wherever you listen to podcasts.

Stay strong, and triumph on!
