Ordinary Women: Recent Episodes

Lucie Bigaud

Men are overrepresented in society. They are our leaders, our teachers, our cooks, our TV hosts and directors, and as we live in a misogynistic society, women have to work twice harder to be recognised. And because of this lack of representation, we don’t always realise that we can do things. This is why I created this podcast: to increase women’s representation, to show that as a woman, I can do anything I want. I want to share stories of ordinary women who did normal and great things and inspire other women to follow their ideas and do great things too.

TW: this episode mentions children marriage and police brutality.

This episode is a bit different from the other ones.

As Iranian women are fighting hard for their rights and facing authorities brutality and repressions, Maryam asked me to use this podcast to raise awareness.

In this episode, we don’t focus on Maryam’s actions, but on what it’s like to be a woman in Iran, the murder of Mahsa Amini of the current political situation.

At the end of the podcast, Maryam invites us to take action - please do write to your representatives

Annalena Baerbock https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annalena_Baerbock

Anousheh Ansari https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anousheh_Ansari

Mahsa Amini https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Mahsa_Amini

What can you do?

  • Be a voice for Iranian women: talk about these issues, repost journalist works, stay informed on the situation
  • Write to your representatives, ask them to deport the Iranian ambassador, stop political relationships with Iran, stop nuclear deal with Iran (you can find templates on internet)
  • Financially support charities and associations lusting for Iranian women

Men are overrepresented in society. They are our leaders, our teachers, our cooks, our TV hosts and directors, and as we live in a misogynistic society, women have to work twice harder to be recognised. And because of this lack of representation, we don’t always realise that we can do things. This is why I created this podcast: to increase women’s representation, to show that as a woman, I can do anything I want. I want to share stories of ordinary women who did normal and great things and inspire other women to follow their ideas and do great things too.
