Correction: I should have said "in addition to debating the finer points of the Law, Jesus concluded by declaring himself 'Lord of the Sabbath.'" As Jesus does discuss the points of Law by finding precedent in King David eating the showbread, and the Temple priests being exempted from Sabbath laws. He applies this by extension to Himself as Lord, and by extension, His disciples, who are being prepared for the priesthood of the coming Kingdom of Heaven.
