Adult Puberty: Recent Episodes

Ebonie Alexandra

Adult Puberty Podcast is for those of us who didn’t receive a silver spoon into adulthood and who dare to live authentic, unscripted lives. My name is Ebonie and I value self-development, or "the work" as I call it, in the areas of physical health, mental/emotional stability and spiritual maturity. I have experienced the transformative power of doing the work, so I want to empower and encourage you to embrace "the work" for the sole purpose of being the best version of yourself. Mountaintop experiences happen every so often. Does that mean we stop living or growing? Not at all! There’s so much untapped opportunity for personal growth in everyday living. You are not alone and we are all trying to figure it out, so I hope you hear something that makes you think, laugh, grow or seek God for your self.

It’s been two years since I’ve been out of corporate America and one year since I was thrusted out of the "upper middle class" due to not being able to find adequate paying jobs.

There is a generation of us, Generation X, born between 1965 and 1980 that, I believe, are the closest targets in this new economic normal of the have’s and the have nots. Sure, most people I know are not affected by this lackluster job market nor the high cost of living because they have it. But here is the thing, it happened to me and its silently happening to others within our generation and others (e.g Gen Z,) where we are being phased out of the job market, housing market etc. and faced with a very different reality than the one we have been building for the last 10, 15, 20, 30 years...

I just want to send out a quick PSA for you to keep your head on a swivel and most importantly to be prepared, not scared.💜

Sometimes the struggles of being an adult and ordinary life can seem like the only thing going on. I for one, have wanted to just not participate in life as I say, but then I’m reminded that life ebbs and flows, there is a bigger picture and I am a part of that bigger picture, no matter how crappy I feel.

I noticed a pattern in my life that consisted of four seasons:

  1. Growing Season
  2. The Goal/Mountaintop
  3. Have (5) Seats
  4. The Valley

In this episode I talk about each of the four seasons. If you need a little pick me up or encouragement to keep going, Check out this latest episode.

Grief is personal. I don't have a "to do" list for grief but  in this episode I talk about how I had been avoiding grieving for two relationships and why Its healthy to process grief that may not be tied to the death of someone but rather because of some change in your life or the loss of a relationship, place or thing.

We have a wide range of emotions for a reason from elated to furious. The healthiest thing we can do as individuals is to not dismiss our feelings for the purpose of trying to force ourselves to feel something that we don't in that moment.

The best thing we can do for the people in our lives that we care about is to give them the empathy and space to feel their emotions and not be dismissive by responding with toxic positivity as if negative emotions are not a part of the human experience.

Health is the real wealth in life! Everything is more enjoyable when you are in good health. Often times we look at our health in narrow focus rather than as a lifelong journey. No matter what your current state of health is you can take control of it and improve if you are willing to put in the work.

In our modern world today most of have some kind of schedule we are on, especially if you work a job. How much of your schedule includes things that are important to you? There are things that we must do but we should also make room for things that nourish us and give to us.   Leaving our priorities up to chance and hoping to get to them "when we get time" typically leads to inconsistencies in doing the things we care about the most. If you schedule them, you at least make room for the priority. All you have to do now is execute!

In this episode I talk about the benefits of scheduling personal priorities and steps you can take to create your own.

Being uncomfortable is a part of life (unfortunately). Wouldn't we all just love to have smooth seas and white sands to park our feet into daily instead of having to deal with moments of being uncomfortable?   Of course we would! But that is, so far, a long ways off. So instead of daydreaming of a life with no discomfort we can learn to embrace the times that we are uncomfortable and learn for the sole purpose of growing in our journey.

People are the most consistent currency we have. We can't escape interacting and at some point we have to learn how to be in relationship with those that we choose.
None of us has to be in relationship with anyone, its always a choice and because of that choice we should appreciate those who choose to be in our lives. Even more, some relationships go even deeper and we become invested in one another. In this episode I talk about a few ways to tell if someone is invested in you and a few things to be aware of.
