Have you ever felt the weight of a 'suit-and-tie' expectation on your shoulders? Dr. Sheva Guy joins me to unravel the tightly stitched seams of traditional professionalism, revealing how this standard can serve as a tool of oppression, perpetuating systemic barriers like racism and classism. As we share our personal narratives – her journey through the expectations of an Eastern European Jewish family to a champion of diversity and inclusion, and our candid discussion of mental health challenges – we lay bare the profound impact of these standards on those who dare to deviate from the norm.

The invisible walls within corporate hallways don't just define spaces; they often delineate who belongs and who does not. This episode peels back those layers, highlighting the importance of amplifying the often overlooked voices in change management, from Oracle implementations to higher education consulting. We tackle the perils of tokenism and the critical need for true inclusivity, where diversity isn't just present but is actively valued and engaged. As we recount tales of tattoos as symbols of defiance and academia as a haven for authentic self-expression, we underscore the importance of challenging stifling professional identities.

As we navigate the transformative currents of change management, our discussion turns to the paradox of organizations that profess a love for change yet resist it when it knocks on their door. Drawing parallels between parenting strategies and fostering agency in professional transformations, we advocate for understanding the 'why' behind change to mitigate natural resistance. And just as a free-flowing conversation can lead to unexpected depths, so too does our dialogue wander through topics like research administration, emphasizing the organic power of authenticity, and the potential for collaborative growth in our professional journeys with Dr. Sheva Guy.

By embracing change, trusting ourselves, and writing our own blueprints, we can create lives that align with our authentic selves. Remember, there is no greater act of self-love than embracing who you truly are.

Key Takeaways:

  1. The prevailing wisdom often presents only two options: succeed or be a quitter. However, there is a third option, which defies prevailing norms and allows for personal growth without the fear of failure.
  2. Women are conditioned to be modest, reserved, and deferential, leading to self-doubt and a constant feeling of not measuring up. Breaking free from these societal expectations is essential for personal growth and fulfillment.
  3. Creating a life that aligns with one's authentic self involves questioning societal norms and determining what feels true and right in the present moment.
  4. Trusting oneself and listening to the inner voice is crucial in making choices that bring joy and empowerment.
  5. Writing one's own blueprint means breaking free from prescribed paths and exploring what truly brings fulfillment and happiness, even if it deviates from societal norms.

When Nancy, a VP of Corporate Sales, is interrupted in a meeting one too many times, she leaves her job to fight for women to be heard which lead to her creating a powerful playbook to help them speak up and stand out with confidence. I'm so glad she's coming on the podcast to have an impactful conversation to talk about getting your voice heard & claiming your seat at the table.

Nancy Medoff is a confidence coach and author of Unmute Yourself, Speak Up to Stand Out. She has spent many years in corporate America and has operationalized the activities needed to demonstrate confidence in the workplace. Nancy has dedicated her life to helping others learn to stand up for themselves, so they can be heard and spread their own personal message.

"Don't mistake my passion for anger. People want to hear what you have to say. Speak up, stand out and step up. Never underestimate the impact you have on a person. If you want to be persuasive and be heard, the best way to disarm someone is to smile."

Tune in to this conversation as we discuss:
1. How to neutralize a person and be heard in a potentially volatile situation.
2. The impact of women overusing 'please' in emails.
3. The role of nurture vs. nature in developing confidence.

You can connect with Nancy on her website at www.nancymedoff.com. There is where you can buy her book, listen to her podcast, sign up for her email list or apply for 1:1 coaching.

Posture isn’t the sexiest thing I’ve ever talked about on this podcast, but it is one of the most impactful on my day to day life. In this episode I welcome Graeson Harris and he unpacks the layers of shame and misconceptions about posture and will help us discover a new gateway to being kinder to yourself.

Grae is an online embodiment coach that helps people with chronic pain, tension, and other mind-body stuff get along better with their bodies. Living with chronic pain himself, he became the professional that he needed, and as it turns out, that other people need too. Grae teaches easeful posture, mindful movement, and pain management skills. He is an AmSAT-certified Alexander Technique teacher and, in addition to working with hundreds of people in private practice, he has taught at over a dozen universities and conservatories. Grae is also a father, queer and very neurodivergent.

Here's what I cover with Graeson Harris in this episode:
1. How can posture be used as a gateway to being kinder to yourself?
2. How do our internalized beliefs and stories about our bodies shape our posture?
3. What is the emotional risk involved in opening up to new possibilities for managing chronic pain?

You can connect with Graeson at https://thismighthelp.us/ and grab his free Posture Detox course.

This week on the podcast I had a chance to sit down with Michelle Woerderman, a life and wellness coach in Massachusetts. She started her career as a Financial Planner and advisor, but then after years of growth realized that she was no longer happy in that position.

Like many of us, she didn’t really know where she was going to go or what she wanted to do next – so she sought out the counsel of a life coach – which completely changed the course of her life.

I wanted you to hear her story because it resonated so much with me. I am constantly hearing stories from people at various stages of their careers wondering if they really want to stay in this job until they retire or die. But then suddenly find themselves unsure of what to do next.

If you’re in that position now, listen in on our conversation and you’ll find that before the hour is up – you’ll have some great ideas for how to find your next big thing.

Elaine and I are back for another Star Trek episode where we talk all about unusual Star Trek pairings. It lead us to some deep personal conversations as well.

The last few years have been a time of incredible growth for me, I’ve been relearning so many things, I feel like I rebuilt myself inside out in so many ways. And though I didn’t know it was happening, I was shaped by many of the lessons I learned from various episodes of the show and watching the relationships between characters develop. I finally understood why people became so obsessed with this show – like Elaine!

Her branding is on point – she has been a passionate Star Trek fan her whole life, and when I met her, even though I wasn’t a fan at the time, I was infected with her love for the characters, the people, and the community. We had a blast on Episode 47 so I brought her back!

Join us in our conversation as we touch on a handful of relationships that affected us like when Guinan took Ro Laren under her wing to when Riker and Deanna Troi had ended their relationship. Through these episodes, we both realized the power and importance of platonic relationships, such as the one between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.

In this week's episode I am continuing the conversation with matrascence coach and doula, Christie Donn. If you don’t know what a matrascence coach is, and you’re a mom, then get ready to have your mind BLOWN about motherhood. I’m not a mother of human children, but as you know part of my life mission is to help make life easier for you – because you work your ass off, and I respect the shit out of that.

Christie has been such an incredible guide for me over the last few years to learn and understand about the experience of motherhood, transitions, and so much more related to how women are seen in the world, how we show up, and how we are systemically diminished. She also showed me how much power we have in our bodies and souls just by existing, and helped me release myself of the need for validation from the outside. I want to share some of her wisdom with you. This conversation went on for much longer than we expected, so we broke it into 2 pieces, here’s part 2.

There are just too many things that can make an individual person feel weird, and its all based on our own life experiences, so what one person thinks is weird, another person can find totally normal. But despite how subjective weird can be, for many of us, it’s something we spent a lifetime trying to get away from.

This episode of Stop Shutting All Over Yourself is about perspective shifts you can make and how I learned about how being different from the status quo can be a superpower. Through my own personal stories and stories from others, I learned that we often feel the need to hide our true selves in order to fit in. This fear of being rejected by the collective creates a sense of insecurity and can cause us to mask our true selves and be less productive at work.

However, I also learned that if we can shift our perspective on these issues on an individual level and create a safe work environment, we can be more productive and successful in our careers and our lives.

In this episode, I'm talking about:
1. Embracing your weirdness as your superpower
2. What it looks like to work with chronic illness and how that can be used as a superpower
3. How to embrace the superpowers of others to create inclusion

This episode is about entrepreneurship and embracing your own uniqueness. Jill Salzman joins the show and shares her path to learning how to embrace her personal branding to stand out from the crowd.

Jill found success when she stopped trying to fit in with the professional world and started to lean into her own brand of weird. Through her journey, she realized that the more she was herself, the more money she made, and that the more she embraced her own energy and vibrance, the more people wanted to buy in.

By leaning into her own authenticity, she developed a community of people who felt the same way and could relate to her. Jill realized that being a zany person in a professional world often feels hard to fit in and that it's important to go out and find your people and embrace them.

Tune into this episode as we discuss:
1. How to cultivate a unique and successful personal brand
2. The power of leaning into authenticity in business
3. How to find the confidence and courage to be yourself despite fear of judgment

Creating an inclusive workspace isn’t just about having a DEI committee and making sure that your employees are a certain percentage white, brown, black, neurodivergent, chronically ill, etc. We aren’t trying to create a rainbow for the sake of having a rainbow or to fill a quota. The purpose of these initiatives is to bring more ideas into the workplace and create better solutions for people, make work easier because of a chorus of voices with multiple viewpoints.

Unmute yourself! Speak up and stand out and get your seat at the table! By Nancy Medoff has to be one of the best blueprints for professionals that I’ve ever read to help voices that have trouble being heard due to systemic issues or unconscious biases, or their own lack of confidence. Regardless of WHY you don’t speak up – this book can help you overcome those challenges and grab your seat at the table.

In today’s podcast, we’re going to:

  1. Do a deep dive into a TACTIC for not shoulding all over yourself
  2. Cover steps for building an infrastructure of confidence
  3. Discuss why the Unmute yourself book is so important

What does FAITH have to do with success in life and business??

I’m not talking about the faith that comes from God or your belief religiously or spiritually, that has it’s own value and is incredibly important, but that’s also deeply personal to each person.

I’m talking about faith as a concept. The dictionary has a 2nd definition of faith, beyond the god stuff - complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

Join me today to:
1. Break down how a lack of trust and faith is causing you to struggle at home, at work, or in your business
2. Learn what does having faith and trust FEEL like
3. Talk through the four types of trust

I do not like the word should but I wasn’t always like this. SHOULD is a big word, full of meaning – when I say should it means I know what the RIGHT way is to do something, and I am dictating it to myself or to others to remind us all about the things we aren’t doing that we SHOULD be. It’s a word loaded with judgement and righteousness. And even when it’s used with the best of intentions, rarely has it ever been used to reinforce self esteem or boost someone’s confidence.

So why do we keep using it? And what can we do instead – come join me today and start shedding a lifetime of shame and shoulds, and embrace the possibilities of what you can accomplish when you aren’t consistently sending yourself on a guilt trip!

In this episode, you will learn:
1. The word 'should' and its negative impact
2. How our choices are individual and based off of our life experience and framework
3. The idea that some things that we 'should' do no longer have a place in our lives

I’ll be honest with you, I find the idea of time management nauseating. I am so sick of talking about it and being disappointed by planners and systems that don’t work. By the time I got to my 40s, I expected to have figured this out - even if it was just a little bit! It took a massive shift in perspective for me to truly understand why none of the planners and schedulers worked for me. Why I struggled so much - and it was probably the reason you do too. Because most time management systems aren’t set up for you, and they’re all designed to remind you of the things you “should” be doing. And no one wants to do those things.

Productivity coach Megan Sumrell has a whole new take on time management. She’s not interested in what we’ve done befo

BUSY: **The word is overused – it’s a buzzword, it doesn’t mean anything because it’s so generic, we use it as a catch all.

It means different things to different people. It generally is negative.**

But at the same time, also a positive because it makes us feel important to be busy. To be going somewhere, to have something to do. SOMEONE NEEDS ME, I have a purpose.

It reinforces the lack of purpose in things that you do. When you’re busy, there’s no intention. It’s kind of literally sounds like noise.

Lets start with your catchphrase, your line that everyone knows: You are not ahead.

You are not behind.

You are exactly where you are supposed to be! – where did that come from, and tell me why accepting that as your truth not just saying the words is so important to you

When someone says that someone is uncoachable or lazy, it makes me want to stab my ears out – and fast. Calling someone uncoachable is not only mean and really fucking judgmental, but it also serves no purpose. Never has anyone been called that and then immediately done self reflection work to understand why they are the problem.

It’s not helpful.

On today’s episode of Stop Shoulding all Over Yourself we’re going to talk about what it means to be COACHABLE and what it means to be UNCOACHABLE.

We’ll tease out why you may have heard that from a boss, leader, or a coach and how you can set yourself up to find the RIGHT coaches for you, so that you feel good about the money you invest in them, and happy about the results.

Remember, you’re paying someone to help you grow, not to make you feel like shit. And the two are NOT mutually exclusive.

This week is still live as I migrate over to Patreon.

We’ve already got it up and running – and you’re welcome to join us at http://www.patreon.com/minessa where we will continue the conversation!

👉 Should I be on Facebook or not?

I’ve been asked this question a thousand times. And I have given similar answers for the past several years because honestly, I believed that you did need to be on Facebook to be a successful business owner.

Over the last year I’ve been proved wrong enough to where I’ve changed my position. No - you do NOT need to be on Facebook to be a successful business owner, but you do need to understand the decision you’re making to dump the platform and what you’re going to need to do instead.

And you probably say something like,

😭 “I don’t know why I can’t just send that email, it will take me 2 seconds to write!” or,
⌛ “I’m getting really close to being ready to launch, just a few more things.”

Chances are, you’re wondering WHY you feel this way. In which case, you probably want to be on the 🔮 Stop Shoulding All Over Yourself Podcast today🔮 , where we’ll dig into the reasons you feel this way, and what you can do about it.

💰 What is the Price of Success?

When you think about your goals when you first started your business did you consider the price you would have to pay to achieve them?

Until about 5 years ago I never had. All I knew was that I wanted to achieve goals, and the price didn't matter - I never thought about it. Neither did any of my clients or my peers. We knew we had GOALS, but when it came time to talk about paying for what it would take to achieve them - it was always about the dollar amount.

💸 How much to pay for a course or a new piece of software?

💸 Do you need to hire contractors, a VA or someone to help you?

💸 How much are you making/spending, and what’s your profit margin?

These are all WICKED important questions, and critical for a successful business. But they all focus on ONE type of payment. The CASH kind.

What none of them address are the hidden costs to running a business:

😭 The incredible loneliness and fear of failing that consumes your thoughts.

⌚ The time not spent with friends, family, and engaging in the life you’re working so hard for

💊 The physical and mental toll it takes on your person

Now I realize the time with my family, the general self care days, hobbies, the things that I love doing in addition to my job - those things are important too.

The problem is I wanted to be able to do ALL OF THESE THINGS at 100% capacity, I wasn't interested in prioritizing, 👉🏽 simply figuring out how to push through it all and achieve.

Everything became a priority. And when that's how you approach business, nothing gets done, and you don't hit any of your goals. And perhaps you find yourself in a place where you aren’t hitting your goals, but you’re still paying the price. And you’re not sure how to fix it.

In this week’s episode we’ll cover the approach I’ve used with my students and clients to help them create real clarity around their goals and the identify their price - so they can move forward with a confident plan, instead of worrying about what happens next.

There’s one more big reason why you may struggle with charging what you’re worth, and this is the hardest one to overcome. It manifests itself in 2 ways:

💔 When you don’t believe in your product, your company, your brand

💔 Or,  You’ve fallen out of love with what you do or how you do it

This is often the hardest one to recognize, because it’s like a relationship. You don’t realize how it’s slowly deteriorating, until you just know you feel sad, unhappy, and nothing you’re trying is making you feel better.

In today’s podcast we’re going to talk about how that lack of passion impacts your livelihood, and how to decide when it’s time for you to hang up your skates and do something else.

👉 Do you cringe when sharing how much you’re worth?

👉 Do you word vomit everything you do when trying to share your value because you’re afraid of missing something important?

👉 Speaking of which how do you feel about tooting your own horn?

If you’re like most people, your stomach is already in knots. The idea of sharing your personal value is terrifying, so it’s easier to focus on the stuff you DO or SELL than who you ARE.

Lets talk about how to overcome that - on the live stream of the Stop Shoulding All Over Yourself podcast! This week we’re back to YouTube and Facebook, I was NOT a fan of my last stream! Back to the old drawing board!

There WILL be a Q&A after, so stick around and we can help you work through the knots in your stomach about money! See you soon!

How hard is it to decide how to price your services? It’s agonizing, right?

You’re putting a dollar value on your blood sweat and tears. YOU KNOW what you offer is priceless, but you can’t help feeling like you sound like you’re begging for every sale.

It’s bad enough when you’re asking for the sale, but it’s sometimes even worse when you’re figuring out HOW to price what you do. And THAT is why you spend more time working than resting. You’re undercharging.

And chances are - you know it. But if you can’t get people to buy for less, how will you get them to buy for more?

Believe me, it is possible, and we’re gonna talk about that on this week’s episode of Stop Shoulding All Over Yourself.

Lifestyle and business coaches who started by charging $50 an hour and bought HOURS in her week simply by raising her prices persession.
The website developer who charges $3000 to design a website, but then included building out an entire course system, importing, it was white glove - she was probably coming out to $10 an hour for the level of service she offers - now makes 4 times that and can take less clients.
The boutique owner who was giving so much product away to incentivise purchases, that she wasn’t making any profit at all, increased her profit margin simply by looking at the dollars.
The crafter who kept undercutting herself before she EVEN posted her products online, now booked up 8 months into the future, who barely uses social media for her business.

Have you ever found yourself saying,

I used to be able to remember so much more
Once I’ve gotten back to where I was 3 years ago, then we’ll be in good shape
I feel like I need to reset, get back to the person I was when I first started
I have so much less energy now, once I can get back to myself

This is the plight of us all. Looking back to the idealized version of ourselves from the past, and asserting that as soon as we get back to that spot, we will feel like we have a firm foundation and can use that as a springboard.

I said those same things for 10 years. 10 years I spent looking to the past. Until Alex pointed out that I really seemed to have a love affair going on with the past that made it very hard to look forward to the future.

That stopped me short.

Could it be possible that the very steps I was taking to grow were the ones holding me back? You’ve been listening to this podcast long enough to know that the answer to that question was YES. And much to my surprise, I discovered that I wasn’t alone.

There are an ARMY of people (you among them) who feel a sense of loss about:

👉 Who they were before their illness
👉 How much time they had before
👉 Their sense of identity from before they had kids
👉 The energy/vision/idea of their past selves

And created a story around which their future begins AFTER they get back to a baseline from the past.

What if you don’t have to wait? What if your future is LITERALLY right in front of you waiting to happen, and all it takes is ONE SMALL HEAD TURN?

Don’t believe me? Come check out the podcast today and put it to the test!

The other day in office hours we had a powerful discussion about how my clients approach doing new things.

Almost every single one said that they needed to know what they needed to do, they needed to understand the lay of the land, have the plan mapped out before they start.

Whereas this is super important in brain surgery, large scale construction, and flight planning - this technique will not serve you as an entrepreneur.

In fact, the whole idea that we need to figure it out before we do the thing is business KRYPTONITE and impacts women in far greater numbers than it does men. We as women are more likely to not succeed in business because of our APPROACH to change and growth.

That sounds disheartening for sure, but it’s SO straightforward to resolve and get around. Not easy, but definitely doable. Join me today and lets talk about how you can make a couple of small shifts to your approach to trying new things that will get you right back on track to making the impact you dreamed of when you started your biz!

Several years ago I literally almost worked myself to death. My body had been shouting at me for months that I was working too much - I needed a break. But I didn’t know HOW to make progress in my business, stay present, AND ALSO make sure I had time to take care of myself.

If I’m being honest - I felt like I had to make the choice. Either it was self care or feeding myself.

Turns out, I was creating a choice where there didn’t need to be one. The only reason I felt that way was because I had coaches screaming in my ears all the time telling me that

  • My dedication to my business was determined by how long I worked
  • Success is dependent upon your hours, and you’d have time to rest later
  • That there was a “right way” of doing things, and I had to fit into that mold

Turns out - they knew how to be successful only ONE way. But there was another way - one that didn’t kill me. Today I live a life of what I call luxury (maybe other people don’t but this is my version of it)

  • I have my dream house and I get up whenever I want to every morning and have time to meditate, eat, and slowly greet the day
  • I work when I want to, and have a steady stream of clients who are making their own version of luxury come true
  • I am doing work that fulfills me, and lets me create meaningful connections with others around me

All of this came from NOT hustling. It came when I stopped doing the things other coaches were telling me to do and started listening to my intuition.

I took that intuition, combined it with years of experience and scientific research and created the HustleProof Your Life guide. This is the first tool designed to make you work LESS to create the life of your dreams.

Comparison is the thief of joy.

Aint that the truth. OncI became a business owner, comparison trapping became like a 2nd job for me. I was always worried about:

👉 What other people were doing that was working so I could do the same thing

👉 The people who copied me, because that was MY hard work!

No Doubt, You’ve been there yourself at some point. When you’re first starting out and not sure what to do, this is where the attention goes.

The problem is - that this kind of tactic can appear to work well (caring about what other people are doing), but it doesn’t take long before it backfires, and ultimately wears you and your business down.

Join me today as we break down the myths surrounding copycats (regardless of who the copier actually is) and go over some killer solutions for comparison trapping.

“I feel like I’m doing a lot of things, but they aren’t getting me anywhere.”

That’s what one of my clients said to me during our discovery session. She echoed what many business owners struggle with - the feeling that they’re spinning their wheels

❌ They’re always looking to that next big event that they do as the one that will “click” and start the path to less anxious business ownership

❌ They’re tired, overworked, brain fog is taking over their days, and they feel guilty whether their working their business or not

This feeling of being stuck can be paralyzing, and its tough to figure out what you need to do next - join me today as we talk about how you may be locking yourself into a miserable present in the hopes of a great life at some undetermined time in the future.

And how to get out of it

I’ve had and spent millions of dollars over the course of my life, and it’s taught me a couple of things about myself:
👉 First, I am really really good at finding opportunities to make money
👉 Second, If I don’t learn how to use the money I make responsibly, then it doesn’t matter how many customers or sales I have, I’ll always be and feel behind.
🤯 This was sobering for me. But also insanely freeing.
It was the moment I realized that maybe I didn’t have to work as much as I thought I did. It was the beginning of a new way of creating freedom in my life I hadn’t considered before.
You’ll learn how to do the same thing for yourself in this week’s podcast. And once you’ve had a chance to listen, I’d love to know -
❓ Has your perception of success impacted how you spend money?
❓ What would you like to do differently moving forward?

I used to hate asking for help. ESPECIALLY in my business. I have ADHD and as a kid I was always told I’d do so much better in school if I just “applied myself.” They made me feel stupid and incompetent.

Asking for help only reminded me of feeling weak and small and incapable. And for years I let that story KEEP me from having the life that I desired.

❌ I hesitated to ask for help because I was afraid people would think I didn’t know what I was doing

❌ Since I wasn’t entirely sure HOW to ask for what I needed, I was terrified I’d look stupid or incompetent

❌ Other people are busy with their own lives and their own businesses, I don’t want to bother them

So I lived in my own little bubble. I was lonely and isolated even though I was SURROUNDED by other business owners who also weren’t talking to each other for similar reasons.

We’re all alone. But we’re all together.

It wasn’t until I started TALKING to these women that I discovered that the ones who were doing really well understood something fundamental about business and life.

YOU CANNOT DO IT ALONE. TO BE SUCCESSFUL, YOU NEED A TEAM OF PEOPLE AROUND YOU. AND IT DOESN’T HAVE TO COST YOU A PENNY.

Come join me today as we talk about how to stop feeling like we’re business owners on an island and create a powerhouse community of women who TALK to each other!

Have you ever tried to mimic what someone else is doing in their business to achieve their results?

I have, at least 3 times. And all 3 were an abysmal failure.

The first time I was copying a boutique owner. I copied everything she did meticulously. CRICKETS. The next couple of times didn’t do much better. It was soul crushing.

I was convinced that because it worked for her, it should work for me. And if it wasn’t then that was a sign that there was something REALLY REALLY wrong on a fundamental level.

It made me wonder if my deepest fears were true. That I really wasn’t cut out for this.

As it turns out, there was nothing wrong with me, my product, or my ability to make money. The only thing I was doing wrong was copying someone else’s business plan.

The same is true for you. If you’re out there looking for people you can mimic so you can achieve their level of success - you’ll be waiting forever and you’ll feel like shit the whole time.

Join us today as we discuss why things work for some people and not for others, and how you can zero in on what works for YOU and YOUR business, so you CAN get the results you want.

Ask any coach or marketer and they’ll tell you that the number 1 question they get from entrepreneurs is, “How can I find more customers?”

One of the best ways that we’ve heard of is paid advertising. It’s the magic sauce. Once you put money behind your business, it’s going to start rolling. Because that’s how it works, right?

Anyone who’s pressed that little blue BOOST button on Facebook knows that’s not how it plays out. What really happens is that you spend money on ads, you get some results. You spend more. You get limited results. A few months and thousands of dollars later, your sales aren’t any higher than they were before the ads.

Except now, the magic bullet you thought you had - isn’t working.

What NOW?

Good news. The solution to your problem is not, and was never going to be ads. It’s actually something else, something much easier, that you can do yourself, and it’s FREE. Join me today to learn what it is.

“I’m a perfectionist!” I declared to my coach, “I can’t get going until I have everything planned out and I’m ready to go.”

My coach looked at me and said, OK then. “How long are you willing to wait until you make money?”

I didn’t understand what she was asking. Doing the thing perfectly is HOW I was going to make money, didn’t she understand what I was trying to say. If it’s not perfect, it won’t be successful.

I had to sit with that idea for a while, but what I realized was that perfectionism is just code for procrastination, and that it is the DEATH KNELL for any business.

If you proudly declare yourself as a perfectionist as a reason for why you haven’t started doing something yet - then join me today for the TRUE secret to success. One that will free you from the shackles of perfectionism forever.

The secret to success is that you figure it out as you go.

How I made best friends with myself while cutting onions.

We all have that voice that lives in our head that rears its head whenever we least expect it, and often when we least desire it.

Some people call her the mean girl that lives in your head, its the inner voice that reminds you that you really are a loser and you don’t know anything and that one day people are going to find out the truth about you.

Though it may seem like that isn’t relevant to business - she’s the most IMPORTANT business partner you’ll ever have. For almost 30 years this voice in my head was a constant abuser, berating me and beating me up - reminding me of my smallness.

NO MORE. Now, we’re best friends. She’s my biggest cheerleader, and my most trusted confidant. She knows all, and is wise beyond measure. She helps me when I’m confused, supports me when I’m lonely, and is the ONLY source of validation that I need in my life now.

It didn’t take any major changes, but one small step I took one day while cutting onions changed my life forever. I’ve shared it with thousands of people since then - and I really would love to help you love yourself more - cause then YOU’LL LOVE YOUR BUSINESS MORE!

Join me to find out how!

Running a business with a chronic illness is no joke. Whether you suffer from a physical illness like Fibroyalgia or MS or a mental condition like PTSD or anxiety, these conditions add an entirely new set of challenges to the aspiring business owner.

And though I separated mental and physical above, the truth is that they often go hand in hand.

Throughout the years we’ve experienced:

👉Doctors, friends, and family members believing that whatever we’re feeling is in our head

👉The impression that most people aren’t struggling with these issues, so we are a burden asking for special treatment

👉The persistent feeling that if we could just get everything sorted and order in our business, we could finally rest cause everything would be under control

And so we push through. Some days we ignore the pain and just try to get as much work done as possible. Others we cry in bed or in the bathroom wishing we could just get it together to do one thing on your list.

Here’s the thing. Feeling this way as a business owner blows, but it also can be a thing of the past. The reason we struggle this way is because almost ALL of the content you read out there about running a successful business is written for the able bodied world. Not unusual that we get left out.

BUT that also means that there’s an alternative. Join me today as we talk about what it means to be a badass business owner with a chronic illness, and how you can reclaim that feeling of confidence with a small shift in perspective.

This is the time of year when we usually reflect upon our accomplishments, look back on our businesses and our lives and consider what we are grateful for, and what we may want to do for the next year.

If you’re an empath, it’s also a tough time to focus - you’re likely impacted with seasonal depression, and motivation is hard to come by. Managing both the excitement of the new year and the dullness of the season is challenging, but not impossible.

Today’s podcast is going to be a bit different - today I want to talk about how you might want to approach planning next year in a less INTENSE way, that will still keep you going.

As a BONUS  - We will also be talking about Facebook in the coming year, and what you can expect from it.

The holiday season is a time of enormous pressure for all of us. Your business, your family, and your health are competing priorities, each one vying for 100% of your attention all the time. It’s enough to make you pull your hair out.

On top of that, this is the time of year where peoples wallets are open and they are primed for spending money. You don’t want to miss the opportunity to take advantage of that momentum, but at the same time, you’re not sure if you

👉 Have the time to set something up without tapping out
👉 Know what kind of event to run that will get people’s attention
👉 Have the stamina for another big event that may or may not disappoint you

Today we’ll talk about why these big events work during the holiday season, and why it’s a GREAT idea to take advantage of the momentum. We’ll also cover the reason why I don’t do big holiday events anymore and why you don’t have to either - if you don’t want to.

From time immemorial we’ve used lists to keep track of the things we need to do. As children we used crayons and scraps of paper, as we get older - we use pens and still scraps of paper, receipts, backs of envelopes - you name it. Some of us try to keep our to do list in our heads and just work our way down the mental list.

We think its the way to get things done, and consider it a critical part of creating progress in our businesses, so we follow it.

But what if this tool is the reason WHY you have trouble making progress. What if your To Do list is the very thing that locks you in place, generates analysis paralysis, creates the feeling of overwhelm, and STOPS you from getting things done.

It’s more common than you’d think, but with a small shift in perspective, you can eliminate the dark side of To Do lists and make them work for you again. Join me on the podcast today to find out how.

From the time I started my social media business I was told you need more people, more numbers, the higher the numbers the better chance of you getting engagement and reach.

I bet you heard the same things.

And initially, it worked. More people. More engagement. More money. More better.

Until. It stopped working. And then everything changes and getting back on track feels like you’re fighting an uphill battle in the snow - NAKED. It blows.

So you do the best you can to increase your numbers the way you learned how

Asking your current customers for likes and shares

Running ads on social media for page likes

Doing like for like posts in business networking groups you’re in

But yet - it still feels like a battle. So what changed? What happened between AWESOME and OMG I’M LOSING PEOPLE? And what can you do differently to get your customer engine flowing again so you can get back to business!

It’s so weird to think how I simultaneously used to feel like I had to stand out from the competition, and ALSO used to feel like I needed to copy what other people who were successful were doing.

😕 To be successful you need to stand out and be different.

😕 To be successful, copy what other people are doing.

Like you - I’ve heard both these messages as I grew my business. And I’ve …

❌ tried copying word for word action for action what someone else does

❌ Tried to be unique by deliberately picking things I didn’t like but stood out

❌ Felt frustrated because there were people copying things I was doing that did work

And all the while, my business struggled. I felt like I was FIGHTING for every inch of success.

Until one day. Clarity hit. Sometimes my realizations are subtle. Not this one. This realization was like a semi truck hitting me in the face at full speed. It was the realization that none of those things mattered.

The things I had been focusing on as my “path to success” were really just a tide pool of things I was trapped in. There was no path to success with that perspective - only marinating in the same water for eternity. 🌊

So if it’s not about being original, and it’s not about copying what other people do - then WHAT IS IT? Join me on today’s live podcast recording and we’ll talk about the real reason people buy from other people, and you can pick your power tool before 11AM EST!

Do you have an opportunity to make money that you’re missing out on?

If you’re like most other women business owners, then the answer to that is most likely a resounding YES.

And it’s because of an antiquated belief that if you have to do anything other than the one thing you set your business up for, then you’ve failed.

This perspective is keeping you feeling poor.

It’s preventing you from creating wealth and freedom.

And You WILL be working non stop for the rest of your life if you don’t work it out

Am I being melodramatic?

In this case - not really. Most of my clients miss out on enormous opportunities to make money because they don’t see them as opportunities - they see them as obstructions, challenges, or proof of failure.

Let's turn that around and turn them into money generating machines, shall we?

When it comes time to post about your life on social media, how do you feel?

🤩 Excited? Like you can’t wait to tell the world about your day, life, opinion?

😟 Worried? People will/wont agree with you? You’ll lose people?

😭Unsure? Your life isn’t super interesting, what will you talk about?

Maybe it depends on the day? 🤷

Working through those emotions takes time, and often by the time you’re done frantically searching for something interesting to talk about, carefully trying to decide on the right words, and dealing with the emotional shit, you either post something really quick, or don’t post at all.

If I had a dollar for every time I faced that challenge, I wouldn’t need a business, I’d be rich on that income alone.

But what if getting people’s attention on social media and inspiring them to engage has nothing to do with being interesting, or exciting, or the best dancer or most entertaining.

What if it’s something else altogether? (Spoiler Alert: It is. It’s something else altogether)

Wanna know what it is? Listen to this week’s LIVE recording of the Stop Shoulding all Over Yourself podcast and find out. Then stick around at the end for a Q&A where we’ll talk about YOUR specific issues!

I don’t know about you, but there was a point in my life where I was tired of feeling like I was always ON MY WAY to succeeding.

👉 At some point I asked myself - am I ever going to feel like I’m there?

👉 Will I feel like it’s enough?

👉 Or is this my life - will I just always feel like I’m chasing money, sales, customers, freedom, etc.

I did not want to feel like I was on a treadmill going to fast for me for the rest of my life. But if I was being really honest, that’s all my business felt like for a couple of years.

That’s when I had a real heart to heart with myself - and I realized

  1. I LOVE being a business owner, and I want to keep doing i
  2. I didn’t want to do it if I felt like this all the time

So that left only one solution. Find a way to feel differently while running my business. I figured it out, and now most days are full of fun and joy - exactly how I imagined it.

I taught my clients how to do the same thing - and now their businesses are happy and hopping too.

And today, I want to share that with you! Let get going!

One of the biggest lies I was ever told was that everyone is my customer.

I remember it vividly. It was a lie I perpetuated for a long time myself, in direct sales, independent business ownership, etc. I thought that because everyone wore clothes - everyone was my customer.

That kind of thinking trapped me in a tiny little business with no potential for freedom - EVER.

I didn’t know it then - but the very FOUNDATION upon which I had built my business was the reason I was struggling. I had no idea! It wasn’t until I really started to embrace that EVERYONE was not my customer that I started to see REAL progress towards my dreams.

If you’re feeling like your dream life is farther away now than when you started, you want to be on this live - with one fell swoop - you can change that.

Problem

  • We’re always looking for the “right way” to do something
  • The problem is we’re doing our due diligence, so we look around for the right way
  • We check google, the internet, social media, etc. We ask people we know, our parents, everyone’s opinions.
  • We don’t trust our decision making process, so we’re worried we’ll pick the wrong one.
  • Wait, if they are all right for other people, then which one is right for me?
  • And it creates chaos, and indecision. Analysis paralysis doesn’t just happen
  • YOU CREATE IT

Solution There is only one right step. I kid you not - one. It’s taking any step. It doesn’t matter what you do, just do something. * You can look at that something, see what worked and what didn’t and then test again to see if your results changed, or it worked better, or you liked it better * You can’t think your way out of these problems. * Think about making any recipe. Let's start with making a steak. * Would we have known the right temperature if we simply spent all our time looking at videos and reading articles? * Nope, we had to COOK the fucking steak, eat it. And then say, um, not so much - too rare, too well done, not seared enough, etc. And then let's try it again for next time. But you don’t think your way around 150 degrees and then say nah, I don’t like that. You don’t know because you haven’t tried. * Stop trying to think your way out of problems and start taking action.*

HomeworkHere’s what I want you to do. I want you to post in the thread of the live on this page (for those of you who are listening to the podcast this is on Minessa Konecky on Direct to Success, and I want you to declare something that you’ve been going back and forth on the details on.

I want you to declare what it is, and declare ONE action you’re going to take. I promise you, it doesn’t matter what the action is, you just have to take one!

Then, come back and share how you felt after you did the thing - what did you learn? What are you going to try next?

We are so good at manipulating ourselves into feeling horrible and not taking action, its a human skill that we can convince ourselves of anything. Since we have that control, why not capture that power and use to create progress and momentum? I hope that this resonated with you and shined a light on opportunities that ALREADY exist in your business. If you liked this podcast, please leave us a review and let other business owners know how it helped. Our mission at DTS is to help as many women as we can to feel joy and confidence in their business again, and your referrals help us get the message out. 👉 I used to spend so much of my day agonizing over the things I should be doing but wasn’t

👉 The things I was told to do but didn’t want to

👉 The stuff I saw others doing but didn’t feel right for me

I agonized and felt guilty. I was failing because I wasn’t doing these things. I told myself that story for years. It wasn’t until the last few that I realized that the key to a successful business isn’t found in any of those things. I would find it when I stopped shoulding all over myself.

Join me on this live today where we’ll begin our journey of deconstructing all the things we feel ike we SHOULD be doing, so we can get back to doing the things that we WANT to do!
